Hello good day!!
I have the following problem
I need to extract the usernames and passwords that are created in shared services (Essbase).
And create user and password in obiee 11g.
Specifically
Having need the same users and passwords (Essbase-OBIEE 11g).
My question is: if it is possible to do?
How?

I'm also experiencing the same problem, but this happens after I upgrade into Windows 7 and now I'm running the BI Admin Tools in XP Mode.
I have also installed the EAS Console in my XP Mode, and the essapinu.dll is there in the EAS folder, but the error still exists.

Not able to import the data in OBIEE 11g

Hi Gurus,
I had just build a new development instance from scratch.
Q1) I am getting database connnection error on the Dashboard and when i tried to update row count from physical layer it also throws me an error, as i test i tried to import but i also got an error " The connection has failed", i am able to connect thru SQL Developer. Where does OBIEE 11g look for the tnsnames.ora file.
Q2.) Where and what setting do i need to so that i can add the users in the application roles by searching them in the EM, means the LDAP users. I had gone thru most of the stuff in the web but could not get thru.

Tracking User Login to OBIEE 11g

Hi all,
Is there a way to know which users logs in to the OBIEE 11g (even if the user doesn't run any report, which means no query to the database is generated)? Is there any log that records it?

Since you just installed last night I assume that you are just dev'ing on your laptop or something.
Be sure that on the machine which you installed on that you are entering http://localhost:9704/analytics/ to test the browser is hitting the correct server.
Also ensure that your Web Logic server is up and running and that all of your System Components via enteprise manager fusion control are "up" and running.
Also, when you start up the BI Services, i.e.: Programs > OBI > Start BI Services you must ensure that you enter the username and password correctly for the user/pass credentials that you created during the installation - typically this is the "weblogic" user by default.
For further help please post any actually log warning/error messages in your reply if the above does not work.

Federation of Essbase with OBIEE 11g

I have a ragged unbalanced Accounts hierarchy in the Essbase cube which I have imported into the OBIEE repository besides the Scenario,Version,Entity,Period and Year hierarchies. Now I have a detail table in the Oracle database with Account,Version,Scenario,Entity with Value(Measure) at the lowest level of each hierarchy. I have read that for federation, the hierarchies need to be balanced. In the relational table Account dimension, I have maintained consistent no. of levels with null values wherever leaves are absent. Now as the Accounts hierarchy in the Essbase cube is unbalanced, how should I design to enable the federation between the Essbase cube and relational table? OBIEE version is 11.1.1.6 and Essbase is 11.1.2.2. Your help is highly appreciated.

The issue has been solved by using Lookup tables. The relational database table has also been populated with alias member names. Then in OBIEE BMM layer, using Lookup Sparse function, the Essbase alias members have been used to lookup the value against the Relational Database table which served as lookup table in the BMM layer.

Admin user security in obiee 11g

Hi,
Can we restrict particular admin user(newly created) in seeing the data in all the reports,where he can see only the coulmn names. when ever he generates the report.
ex:
A B C
1 2 3
4 5 6
is the data genereated in the report, the admin user should not see 123456 data, have to see the column names A B C.

You can try this:
create one dummy dimension table (an opaque view like select '1' from dual) and make a cross join (complex join with condition 1=1) in the physical layer and you can enforce the BI Server to use this table (whenever this fact comes in picture) so that it would never return no results (atleast 1 NULL row). In this way you can avoid No Results.
Now if you want to remove this NULL row for other users, you can restrict that at RPD level itself by applying global filters using USER session variable.

OBIEE 11g - How to create clean looking pivot tables

Hi, does anyone have a good way to clean up the appearance of pivot tables in OBIEE 11g? I'm a big fan of Stephen Few and firmly believe in the "minimize non-data ink" theory. Unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of stuff on OBIEE pivots that I can't easily clean up. Does anyone have ideas for:
1. How to remove the "gray" / "beige" coloring from column and row dimension? I opened a ticket with Oracle 6 months ago, and basically they've just responded that it is a "enhancement request" for a future version (aka not going to see it for a LONG time)
2. For my "across" dimension, I don't seem to have a good way to show the dimension name. There is an option under "column properties" to "display heading" - but when this is turned on it scrunches the heading up directly over the column that has the down dimension members. I really want this to go across the pivot.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Import OLAP Metadata in OBIEE 11.1.1.5 failing

We are in the process of integrating our existing Oracle OLAP infrastructure with OBIEE 11.1.1.5. We are currently on 11.2.0.1 DB with our 11g cubes in 11.2.0.0.0 compatibility mode.
We have two AWs within the same schema that are tightly integrated (Eg. Q12_AW and Q12_HIST_AW). When I import the metadata using OBIEE 11g BI Administrator, I can only see Q12_HIST_AW but not Q12_AW. Also, when I copy Q12_HIST_AW to OBIEE, it errors out. Looking at java host logs, it looks like I am getting parse errors but not sure how to pursue further on why the parser is failing.

It looks like OBIEE 11.1.1.5 ships with 11.1 jars and since my DB was running 11.2, I faced this issue. The fix is described below for folks who encounter this issue.
The OLAP API jars on the middle tier need to be updated to version 11.2.x. The OLAP API libraries are found in your Oracle Database home: [oracledb home]\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\olap\api\lib. BI EE provides an 11.1.x version of these files in [obiee home]\Oracle_BI1\bifoundation\javahost\lib\obisintegration\aw\11g. Backup the BI EE version of the OLAP API jars and replace them with the version provided by the database.

Security question in obiee 11g

I have a question on security configuration on what we have in 10 and deploying to 11g.
Q1. how deploy external database security(users, groups) to OBIEE 11g.
we used external database security in 10g. all the users and groups maintained in database and obiee rpd has security groups. repository has group information only so it is deployed groups information to obiee 11g by upgrade assistant but how can it deploy users in external database?
Q2. all the users and roles in LDAP server. in this case how obiee 11g read users and group information?

Obiee11g is intergated with weblogic fusion middleware (Console,EM). in that console have feature to enable mulitiple LDAP authentication
while configuring AD via weblogic console we need to give the users and group info

Unable to conect to BI Admin in online mode OBIEE 11g

Hi All,
We are using OBIEE 11g . We are unable to connect to BI Admin in online mode. All servers (admin server, biserver) are up and running fine. Checked the staus of all the servers in command prompt, it showed ALIVE.
We are able to connect in offline mode.
Able to connect till yesterday and faced no problems. suddenly problem occured. Once the problem occured restarted all the servers but still unable to connect in online mode.
ERROR Description:[nQSError:43126] Authentication failed:Invalid Username/Password.
[nQSError:37001] could not connect to the BI Server instance.

Customize the Header in OBIEE 11g

I am able configure and use customize Skins and Style in OBIEE 11g. MY issue is that after user login to OBIEE 11g, it display Home page. I need to add or remove some links from the top right corner of the header. In OBIEE 11g, this header is consistent for funtions.
Any idea if the this can be cutomized? If yes then which files I should be updating like pages or messages ares in BIP.

Following xml seems to be corresponding one.

For example, I tried to modify as below and the "Home" character was vanished in the dashboard page.

Uninstall OBIEE 11g

Hi There,
I installed OBIEE 11g, then got tons of error, so I am thinking uninstall completely then re-install again.
I use Deintall, this does uninstall all the BIE components, but weblogic service is still running, do I need to uninstall that too?
Also I cannot delete Middleware directory, it said it is in use.
Any tips on completely install this?

I installed OBIEE 11g, then got tons of error[s],Yep, that pretty much has been my experience so far too.
I thought the same thing, let's uninstall this bad boy. First thing I want to tell you is that I hope you installed OBIEE 11g to your root directory (i.e. C:\ ). If you buried the install deep in a folder structure, you may have issues deleting files.
Here's roughly the steps that I took:
1) Uninstall OBIEE. --Sounds like you completed this.
2) Noticed weblogic components did not get uninstalled. Went to start menu, weblogic ->Uninstall. Uninstalled those components. -- You still need to do this.
3) Tried to delete remaining files in OBIEE 11g folder for clean re-install. Got error message saying file was in use. Go to your Windows Services (you're on Windows right?) and kill any running Oracle OBIEE 11g services that weren't taken care of by the uninstall process.
4) Delete the remaining files. If you did put your install too deep in a file structure, you'll have to get creative about how to remove the deepest files.

Importing Users from external table in obiee 11g

Hi Every one,
Do any one help me giving suggestions that how we can import users from external table.
I am using obiee 11.1.1.6.
In that external table Which i am using there are 56K users.
They are able to login to obiee analytics.
But for setting object level security I need to make diffrent groups with these users to assign the dashbords and required objects in front end.
But how can we get all these users into BI server or presentation server to make them into groups.

Hi,
or if your lowest level is the same like
Day->month->year->Total
Day->businessMonth->businessyear->Total
Then yes, it is.
Create the first, then you start to create the second by adding your top(business year) level on the same level as the one you have (year) both under your total.
Then when you would add your second base level, there is a special option for it, something like use other hierarchy level/shared level (sorry can't recall and does not have a connection right now) then you select your existing day level under your businessmonth level.

Build OBIEE 11g repository accessing Essbase problem

When I use OBIEE 10g to import Essbase cubes metadata, the measures are displayed as 'physical cube columns' in physical layer; however, when I use OBIEE 11g to import the same Essbase cubes metadata, these 'physical cube columns' disappear (i.e., I cannot see profit, margin, etc. anymore) but rather, the measures are shown with 'physical dimension' with a hierarchy structure (up to Gen4 measures).
The implication is that when I drag the structures to BMM layer and then presentation layers, I am not able to select any measures in the presentation layer.
Are there anyone who can help me solve this problem?

Hi user,
Obiee 10g had a big problem importing essbase measures. In order for you to create a measure you needed to make the measure dimension and "Account" type dimension which would mostly be the Scenario dimension rather than the Account dimension.
Obiee 11g allows you to import the account dimensino and decide whether to treat it as measures or as a dimension. Once the cube is imported,right click on it and select "Convert measure dimension to flat measures". This will resolve your problem.

OBIEE 11g agents are failed to connect to Essbase. We are using :USER & :PASSWORD (SSO) in connection pool setting to connect to Essbase.
User account exists in both OBIEE and Essbase. OBIEE dashboards which are based on Essbase are working fine. Essbase variables in RPD are upto date.
Only agents are failing and error says invalid credentials, but dashboard pages are running without any issue.

State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS. [nQSError: 43119] Query Failed: [nQSError: 96002] Essbase Error: Login fails due to invalid login credentials (HY000)
Essbase and OBIEE services are up and running.
Any help will be appreciated.

We finally implemented CSS Token option and ended up with this error. We are unable to connect to essbase with CSS Token option.
We followed the Oracle document to implement this.
[nQSError: 43119] Query Failed: EPMCSS-00301: Failed to authenticate user. Invalid credentials. Enter valid credentials. (HY000)
We did update this property:
JAVA_PROPERTIES="-Dplatform.home=${WL_HOME} -Dwls.home=${WLS_HOME} -Dweblogic.home=${WLS_HOME} -Didstore.identityAttribute=objectguid"
