Import video from DVCPro Cassette Recorder

I have a fire wire connection from my DVCPro VCR to my mac. I can see the video just fine on the mac but can not import any of it. When I try the import screen says I am importing but there is nothing there when I try to view the recording on the mac. The file created is empty so I know nothing is being recorded. Is it possible to record this way? Everything works fine using my DV Camcorder but I want to use my professional camera & equipment. Anybody???

Try this (although I do not have a DVCPro deckm and others may have a better idea.)
Can you see the video on your import screen when you press PLAY on the VCR? If so,
Set import mode in iMovie to MANUAL (not automatic).
Press Play on your VCR so you see the movie playing on your Mac.
Immediately press the Record button in iMovie.

You will need to transcode to one of the FCE Easy Setups.
Match the converted file to the specs of the chosen Easy Setup, audio & video.

Importing video from a JVC HD7U camcorder into iMovie 11

I am having trouble importing video from a JVC HD7U camcorder into iMovie 11. The import screen shows up and recognizes the camera with the time counter activating but there is no image on the screen and the record or import buttons do not seem to do anything. I have followed the instructions from the manual and others found online. Someone please help. Terry

I have a new Everio HD that I have been fooling with all day. Finally got a clip into iMovie 6 ....but only once and I'm still figuring this out too.....if you are not using a HD camera this may or may not work for you.
The Everio Quicktime extension must be installed. (Download and install the patch if you upgrade to Leopard).
Is your camera an HD? If so you need to capture the clip in 1440 CDR not FHD (FullHighDef).
Launch iMovie 6. Create a new movie in Video format HDV 1080i . then plug in your camera via firewire.
Put the camera in playback mode (Play/REC), press the Function, select Dubbing Playback (bottom of the menu). You should get a menu with a start button now. Switch to iMovie 6 and select "Import". This should start the clip playing from the camera....you may have to hit the Start on the camera.
This should get your clips into i Movie.
We may be ably to create playlists and get them in that way too but I have not had any luck with the JVC instructions to do this. There are video tutorials on the JVC website too but again they have not worked for me.
There is also a way to get and work the FHD files but that is a USB file transfer followed by a file conversion. I'll tackle that a little later...

How to import videos from iPhone 4 to PC?

I'm trying to get a video that I recorded and edited with my iPhone 4 and iMovie, on my PC so I can share it with others. It won't email because the file size is too big (but the video is only 1:20...) and I uploaded it to YouTube but they removed the audio because it's copyright infringment. I've going through My Computer and a few other things and all the photos get imported but when I try and play an imported video it won't load and just freezes. Any tips?

IPhoto won't import videos from digital camera or s4

Up until now, I had been able to import videos from both. Now iPhoto won't even ask me to import videos. It just imports the photos.

Do the cameras have the option to record in AVCHD? If so is that what you're recording? What version of iPhoto are you using?

New Photos App - Can't Import Video from Digital Camera

Hi, everyone. I just "upgraded" to the new Photos app, but I'm finding that I can no longer import video from my Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5. With iPhoto, this was never a problem. All of the old videos I imported from this camera are there after migration, and are playable within the program. Photos import just fine. However, I get an error message for the videos (below). I don't understand why I'm not able to import anything new from that device.
I opened iPhoto to attempt an import and it worked just fine. Any help is appreciated. I'm running Yosemite 10.10.3 on an iMac 2010. Thanks.

iMovie 3 does not support the camera you have. iM is a Digital Video (DV) editor. Cameras that record to mini DV tape is what is required. IM 3 does not support USB either. You need Firewire. The camera you have is a flash based Hard Drive camera. To get the video off this camera you'll need iM08 or 09.
But it doesn't appear that the computer you have will support either of these versions.

Can't import Video from Video Camera

I gave my father in law my old iMac (G4 Flat Panel running OSX 10.3.9 and running iMovie 3.0.3) - and we can't seem to import video from his digital video camera.
The camera is much newer than the iMac - it is a JVC G2-MG330HU digital video camera.
When the camera is plugged in (via USB) to the iMac, the drive on the camera shows up in Finder, but not inside the iMovie program.
If you try to import from iMovie, the camera (and therefore the video clip files on the camera) can not been seen.
Any hints?

ImageJ in Yosemite can not import video from QuickTime plugin

ImageJ in Yosemite can not import video from QuickTime plugin.... it seems can not found QuickTime_Capture.jar within QuickTime_Plugins.jar but I'm sure it is in the plugin directory.
I google this problem but not luck!

I have first chosen to followed Sue's suggestion concerning the firewire connections since that looked to be the one most easily done quickly. I therefore had to make more room on the hard drive in my MacBook Pro since the drive is only 100 GB. I normally use an external 400GB drive to hold my video files since one of the plays last May required about 200GB! However, the play this time was a short one and not really High Density anyway like the one was in May with a much finer camera. I have been connecting the external HD via Firewire800.
I simply moved a number of files from my MacBook Pro drive and put them in the external HD as well as another HD and then disconnected the external HD from my MacBook. I was, indeed, able to import the entire tape in one shot into iMovie. iMovie is still not working right since I found that I had to click "import" in iMovie to start collecting a clip and then hit "play" on my camcorder to actually import the tape contents into the clip. I found the whole play, just 50 min this time, in that clip when we returned home this evening.
I can now get the editing done one their last play for the kids and have DVDs for them when I go back up to Gainesville to record their current play on Thursday evening.
I will then devote some time to trying to solve the rest of the problem, looking into Benjt's suggestions.
Thanks very much for your very timely critical and positive help this afternoon. For your information, I also have been working on learning Final Cut Express but as I tried to put all of my reading into practice, I now I can't even get FCE to open - but that's another story and a very different problem.

Can't import video from Canon ZR50

Hi,
I'm having (a LOT) of trouble importing video from my DV camcorder (a Canon ZR50) into iMovie. I used to do this all the time (using this camcorder) with no problems whatsoever, but I haven't imported any video for a couple of years.
First, I got the error message that the camcorder was sending "half-frames" that iMovie couldn't accept and to change the recording speed to SP.
I changed the recording speed to SP, but still got the same error message. So, I then uplugged everything, restarted the computer, took the battery and the emergency battery out of the camcorder, waited five minutes, replaced the batteries, reset the date/time/recording speed (to SP), plugged the firewire back in, and got the same error message.
I then decided to go boot up my ancient blue dalmation iMac that I used to edit video on, and although iMovie said the camcorder was connected, when I hit either "play" or "import," even though the video would play on the camcorder, it wouldn't show up in iMovie.
PLEASE help me get my video onto the computer!!!

Does the MBP see the camera at all?

Imported videos from Kodak PlaySport will play!

I just discovered today that iPad will import video from the Kodak PlaySport Zx3 and ACTUALLY PLAY IT! Granted, it will only play video shot in standard definiton, not HD. Since I couldn't find any info on the compatibility between this video camera and the iPad, I went to my local Best Buy with my own SD card, shot some test videos, then imported it to the iPad using the Camera Connection Kit SD card accessory.
Here are the details --
Capture modes
(Imports, doesn't play) 1080p—1920 x 1080, 30 fps
(Imports, doesn't play) 720p / 60 fps—1280 x 720, 60 fps
(Imports, doesn't play) 720p—1280 x 720, 30 fps
(Imports AND plays!) WVGA—848 x 480, 30 fps
Just wanted to share this info. Hope it helps someone out there!

Two posters mentioned GoodReader will allow you to import HD video from the Kodak PlaySport to the iPad. Two other posters said they tried and it only worked with photos (and maybe non-HD video).
If you have actually used GoodReader (or any other program, for that matter) to import HD video from the PlaySport to iPad, could you please post something other than a single sentence declaring that you can do it? Step-by-step instruction, for example, would be great.
For the record, when I use GoodReader and press the camera icon at the bottom, it opens the "Photo Albums" selection, but HD movie files are not shown (even though they are in the photo album and displayed with a generic movie icon).

IMovie 10.0.6 won't save my imported videos (from DV camcorder)

I am using this version of iMovie for the first time (I finally gave in and let 9 go), so maybe I'm missing something. I am trying to import some VHS tapes and I'm using a miniDV camcorder to convert to digital, something I've done a bunch in previous versions with no problems. The camcorder is connected with firewire to my MacBook. So in iMovie I click "Import". Here I can see and hear the tape when it plays. There is a message that says "Camera Not Controllable", which is expected. I click the blue import button down in the corner and the message changes to "Recording" with a counter for the time. All seems great. When I'm done I click "Stop Import", then "Close" and I'm taken back to the main iMovie window with the events list. But in the only event, where it should have been saving the video, there is nothing. I've tried this a bunch of times and created a new iMovie library on an external drive but nothing works. It never actually seems to save any video.
Am I doing something wrong? This is really frustrating!

I have exact same problem.
iMovie 10.0.6 won't save my imported videos (from DV Digital Video Camera JVC GR-D290E).
I have iMac 27" (end 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2).
I tried to reinstall the previous version of iMovie 9. But the OS can not do it.
Note: At the other my MacBook4.1 (OS 10.5.8, iMovie 8.0.6) same operations are functioning normally.

Imported video from DV player too fast

I am importing video from a SONY miniDV player (digital video cassettes), and although it seemed to import and the regular rate, some of the frames are super speeded up, and seem to be condensed into 1 second? Some of the other frames are fine. Is there something I need to do during import to stop this?

I don't know! I thought just the Standard Play... Some of the video footage imports just fine (regular speed), but other footage is condensed. I never changed anything when I took the footage.

I need to know how to import video from my vcr. I know you can import through RCA cables and a converter, but is there any way i can do it cheap. I know that i could use the microphe jack to record the audio but i also need the video. Please HELP.
