Import video in iPhoto 11 with Automator workflow

Hello,
I'm trying to do a workflow to convert and import video into a new iPhoto 11 album but the Automator action import only photos in.
How can i do that?
Thanks.

Hum, well...
Is it possible to modify this action or create a new one with XCode to accept videos too?
I'm not often using XCode but I'm web developer so maybe I can do that if it's not too complicated.
Some help? Thanks.

Imovie 09 How do I stop Imovie from auto importing video from iphoto.
Hi I've done a lot of searches on how to do this but no answers found.
Imovie is beginning to become really slow because of the large number of video's. It takes 3 minutes to startup. Editing is sometimes slow lot's of spinning beach balls e.t.c.
I would like to only import the video I want to edit and hopefully get a quicker Imovie in the process.
My Iphoto library is about 95 Gbyte in size.
My mac has 4 gb ram and I use the internal disk.
Any other ways to work with Imovie/Iphoto are also welcome.
    regards

I won't get iMovie 9 till Tuesday, but based on what you said I may need to take some precautions. One reason I didn't like iMovie 8 is because it automatically imported everything in iPhoto library. What I'm going to do is create a new iPhoto library before importing the photos/videos from the camera. Or if you already have it in your main iPhoto library copy only the photos you'll use in your iMovie 9 project to the new library. Then start iPhoto while pressing the option key which will allow you to select the new iPhoto library you have created. Then I suppose that when you start iMovie 9 it will automatically import only the photos/videos from the new library.

  • IMovie not importing videos from iPhoto

I am trying to import videos from iPhoto into iMovie. It is not bringing in ( i.e. creating thumbnails for) anything after Dec 2010. The videos all show up in iPhoto and they were shot with an iPhone. Is there a date range set somewhere that I need to change. I can not even get them if I specifically try and import them one at a time through File-Import-Movies. When I try this method it lets me select the videos, but they still don't show up in my video thumbnails. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

I open up iMovie and it then imports movies from iPhoto. The problem is it is missing several videos. When I select import video it imports those missing files, so I know it's not a file format issue... Anyone else seen this? Any suggestions on how to get ALL my videos into iMovie?
iPhoto will import any file that can be played in the QT Player (i.e., that is "playback" compatible). On the other hand, iMovie '08 will only import files that it can edit -- i.e. that are "edit" compatible. (Would you really want to waste your time importing files only to find that you can't do anything with them once they are "in" the application?) Your solution is to convert non-edit compatible files to compression formats that are editable -- primarily DV, AIC, M-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264. You should also note that both audio and video content must be edit compatible. For instance, many AVI files contain M-JPEG video which can be edited along with ADPCM audio which cannot be edited and so such files will not import.

  • Problems importing video to iPhoto

I know that in order to import video into iPhoto, I just follow the same steps as for importing photos. However, when iPhoto recognizes my camera, it says that there are no photos on my camera, and so refuses to import anything. If I take a picture, it will show up with 1 photo - but then will import just the photo, not the videos. Thoughts?

iPhoto 4 does not support importing video at all. That's only available with iPhoto 5 or later.

How do I import videos from iphoto? at this time it is not letting me do this - all my videos are loaded into iphoto, and i need to cut them asap.

If iphoto is like iphone with Variable Frame Rate, you won't be able to edit in Premiere Pro (or Elements) so you may need to buy Quicktime Pro from Apple
Iphone won't edit easily because it uses a variable frame rate - A possible fix in message #22 http://forums.adobe.com/thread/934466

  • Skip importing video in iPhoto

Is there a way to skip importing video in iPhoto?
My camera records AVCHD video and I import videos to iMovie. It is annoying to deselect videos manually in iPhoto.

With iPhoto 9.3 you can import AVCHD video into iPhoto
the only option is to imported selected rather than Import all

  • Can't import video from iPhoto or memory card

I just upgraded to iLife'11 but now I can't seem to import my videos from iPhoto. Before, I could download stills and videos to iPhoto (via card reader) and iMovie would automatically import them. Now I can still import video into iPhoto but then can't figure out how to move them into iMovie. Any suggestions?

I get a message saying "the file is and unrecognized format."
    It's just a jpeg!!!!
    What is the color profile?
    Will they open in preview?

  • Import video from iPhoto to the new iMovie

how does one import video from iPhoto video to i Movie for a project. This used to be simple.

In the CONTENT LIBRARY (bottom left) you should see an iPhoto item which when clicked gives you access to your iPhoto library.  Does this not include videos?  (I don't use iPhoto so cannot check).

  • Importing Video From iPhoto doesn't work correctly

I have many videos in iPhoto and they do not appear when iMovie launches. The manual says the following
"Video from your digital still camera or camera phone that you download to your
iPhoto library is automatically available when you open iMovie. In the Event Library,
select iPhoto Videos, and then select the Event you want"
This is not true? ANy help?

i have alot of movies on my iphoto and tried to upload to imovie.
    the program does not respond!
iPhoto only requires a movie be playback compatible for it to be imported. iMovie requires a file be "edit" compatible before it will import the file at the "Finder" level.
i tried uploading from the hard drive and got the same result.
the only time the imovie actually respond is when i upload directly from my camera
Same result for the same reason. Files imported by the Finder must already be "edit" compatibile with iMovie '08. Files which are imported directly from a camcorder (with the exception of DV) have to be "converted" to become "edit" compatible with iMovie '08. The "Import from Camera" option automatically converts files imported from recognized devices while the import of files via the Finder does not.
Basically, if a file is not DV, AIC, Motion-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264 along with supported audio compression formats it will not be accepted/imported by iMovie '08. Either you import the files directly from the recording device (or make the application think it is doing so) or you convert them manually. To know what is best/easiest for you to do, we would first have to know what kind of files (i.e., compression formats) we are dealing with here.

  • Canon Powershot SD1100, importing videos freezes iPhoto 08?

    To Group:
I recently got a new puppy and have been taking quite a few short video clips with my Canon SD1100, however when I try to import them into iPhoto 08 the application just freezes and eventually closes. Upon reloading iPhoto it says that X number of photos/videos were not imported, do I want to import them now and when I say YES the same thing happens again. If I say NO it puts them in a a folder named iPhoto Library Recovered Photos_X. I've noticed it doesn't happen on all videos, just rather large ones (~300MB). I've got all the latest updates installed. Any ideas?
    Thank you.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
iPhoto will baulk at importing larger files directly from the camera. The work around is to move the files from the camera to desktop using Image Capture and then import them to iPhoto.

  • Having trouble importing videos into iPhoto

Yesterday I restored my iMac, after backing up all my photos and videos in iPhoto to a hard drive, using File > Export in iPhoto.
I've just tried to import all the photos and videos back into iPhoto after restoring, but I cant import the videos.
I keep geting a message saying the following files could not be imported with a list of all my videos.
the file types are a mixture of AVI, MP4, and MOV.
Im not sure where im going wrong,
    thanks

to backup up your iPhoto library you must drag it intact as a single entity to an external drive that is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) - exporting photos does not back up your library - only your photos - and exporting video only gives you a preview of the first frame unless you expor the original
Unless you have a backup of your iPhoto library you probably have lost yru videos

  • Problem importing videos into iPhoto 9.5 on Mavericks.

I have had Macs and iPhones for years but I have never used iPhoto until now.   I am trying to import a large collection of pictures and videos into iPhoto 9.5.  Pics import well, but for videos (avi, mp4, mov, etc) I get an error message "The file is an unrecognized format" and then I get a list of hundreds of videos that have failed to upload.  These videos are mostly ones taken with iPhones.  I have tried a few things and have even resorted to creating a new library, but the same result each time.   Anyone have suggestions?

I launched iPhoto while holding down option, I deleted the old library in finder and created another but the same thing happened. In my case the exact same count of 554 avi's and mov's weren't imported. It lists the files that
weren't imported in a scrollable window. I opened a few of the listed files in quicktime without issue.

  • Hiding Previously Imported Videos In iPhoto 11 w/iPhone 4

This question as been asked in the past on these forums but I could not find an answer.
iPhoto allows me to hide previously imported photos, but does not allow me to do the same with previously imported videos, forcing me to manually deselect any videos to prevent them from being imported again.  Is there some hidden setting I am missing, either on the iPhone or in iPhoto?
Phone:  iPhone 4 ver 4.2.8 (Verizon)
    Software:  iPhoto 11 ver 9.1.3
All software is up to date according to Software Update (for iPhoto) and iTunes for the iPhone.

I tried all of the EXIF programs I could find:
    macmetamod
    clay_2007_10_17
    reveal_1.2_mac
    exifviewer
All with out joy and I finally figured out that Graphic Converter would let me look at and modify the EXIF data working with Google Earth. This did the trick if the data is 0 0
A much easier way was to select the file and right-click (ctrl-click) the picture or video and select "Recan Location." I was able to select all and do a batch Rescan Location.
This was done with iPhoto '09
    Hope this helps.
Now, how to rename the Location?
