Import video on newer macbook pro

I have a Macbook pro that doesn't have a Firewire 400 input - only Thunderbolt, Firewire 800, and USB
I'm trying to import video from my Canon video camera that has a 4 pin port.
I tried a 4 pin to 9 pin cable, but no avail.
Any ideas on how to import now from my camera?

A 4 pin to 9 pin cable should work. Make sure your camera is plugged in to AC power (not batteries only).

  • Importing video on a MacBook Pro

Well, this is my first attempt to import video to my MacBook Pro and it's not going well. First off, no firewire port. Oops. Now what? iDVD says that no camera is attached. Of course it probably wouldn't recognize it going into the USB port, but now what do I do?
I have a 1TB external drive that takes firewire. Any way I can daisychain the two and import directly to the external drive?

So sorry. Trying to import into iMovieHD

  • Tranfer analog video to new Macbook Pro

I have a new Macbook Pro and I would like to transfer old 8mm videotapes to it and burn them onto DVD.  I read about Pinnacle Video Capture for Mac, however, none of the articles/reviews/posts are recent and all of the online dealers who sold it are listing it as "out of stock".  I tried contacting Pinnacle direct but NO ONE ANSWERED THE PHONE!!!! (and yes, I called during operating hours)
Needless to say, I am no longer interested in purchasing a Pinnacle product.  Does anyone know of a current technology device that I can do this with?  I really don't even care about doing any editing.  I just want to transfer some old 8mm videotapes and VHS videotapes to digital and put them on DVDs.
    Thanks for your help!!!

    It has firewire?
It's between the USB slot & the ETHERNET slot.

Don't forget if it is a Firewire 400 camera, you'll need a 400 - 800 cable, as they have different plugs on them.

  • Can I use Apple DVI to Video Adapter to import video to my macbook pro?

I was wondering if i could use the Apple DVI to Video Adapter to import videos from my camcorder that don't have usb or firewire but have a S-video. to my laptop? and import them to iMovie

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If you mean without internet, then yes, providing it isn't a purchased video (The Apple TV may need to verify authorisation). If you mean without a network, then no.

  • Canon Vixia HF M301 camcorder cant download videos to my macbook pro with imovies 8.  I have read everything I can find, please help.  Josh

I have a canon Vixia HF M301 camcorder and I can't get it to import videos to my Macbook Pro.  I have read and tried everything I can find and still no luck.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Lorcan96791,
Please make sure that you are using Transfer Utility, which is a program that is made by Pixela Corporation.  It came with your camcorder along with another program called VideoBrowser.

  • Can't import video from Canon GL-2 into new Macbook Pro

Can't import video from Canon GL-2 into new Macbook Pro
Using 9-4 pin cable and then using firewire 800 to thunderbolt adapter.

Does the MBP see the camera at all?

  • Sony cybershot videos automatically import into iPhoto on MacBook Pro but not iPhoto on Mac Mini

This is so weird.  I have iPhoto '11 vers 9.4.2 OS 10.7.5 running on both my MacBook Pro and my Mac Mini.  I can hook up the Sony cybershot and import all photos and videos into the MacBook Pro's iPhoto without any problems or special actions.  But the MacMini will only import the photos and never recognizes the videos even being there.
As a work around I can then drag the videos from the MacBook Pro's iPhoto window to the desktop, then turn on file sharing and pull them into iPhoto on the Mac Mini w/out any problems.
Info on the videos on the MacBook Pro's iPhoto: 1920x1080 H.264 29.97 fps
Once those videos are dragged to the desktop it's a .mov and opens in Quicktime
Info on the videos on the MacBook Pro's Desktop before file sharing to the Mac Mini:  Format: AVCHD 1080i60, 1440 x 1080 (1920 x 1080), Millions  16 bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo (LR) 48kHz  29.97 fps  Data Rate: 83.1 Mbit/s
What's going on here?  Is there some special codecs or something on the MacBook Pro iPhoto that the Mac Mini's Iphoto doens't have?  How can I fix this so my wife can import the videos straight to iPhoto on the Mac Mini like I'm able to do on my MacBook Pro?
    Thanks!
    J

Yes and no. It is my understanding that the most direct way will require attaching the script to each of the subfolders. However, the attaching of the script can be done using AppleScript. Those subfolders that are already in existence can have the scripts attached using the following script:
click here to open this script in your editor<pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #222; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:400px">property WatchedFolderName : "Camera Phone Images"
property WatchedFolderPath : ((path to desktop) as text) & WatchedFolderName
    property ScriptName : "Subfolder detection.scpt"
property ScriptPath : ((path to Folder Action scripts) as text) & ScriptName
    tell application "Finder"
set target of window 1 to folder WatchedFolderPath
set theSubFolders to folders of entire contents of target of window 1
repeat with i from 1 to count of theSubFolders
    tell application "System Events"
attach action to (item i of theSubFolders as string) using ScriptPath
    end tell
    end repeat
    end tell</pre>
and subsequently added folders can be caught by adding a test for folders being added in the folder action script. I am working out the details on that one now.

  • I have the new macbook pro from late 2011. when i try plugging my cannon gl2 into the mac via firewire 800 it does not show up in iMovie as an option to import from. i even have gone into my settings on the camera and changed it to vcr.

I have the new MacBook Pro from late 2011. "the one before the new ritina display" i have a cannon gl2 video camera which is mini dv. when i plug it into my mac via firwire 800 it does not show up in the iMovie. i have set the settings on the camera to vcr mode and changed it to av->dv out. when i click on the import from camera on imovie it doesnt even show my camera in it. it just gives me the option to import video from my facetime camera. the camera is turned on the wires are connected i know for fact that its a firewire and not a usb. i know what they each look like. i bought the firewire cable and it was marked down cause it was an opened and used item. would it be possible that it could be deffected and if that is not the reason what other options do i have?

I would say that odds are high that you have a bad cable. Maybe that is why they returned it.
I would suggest trying a different firewire cable.
You can find Firewire cables inexpensively at monoprice.com. You need a 4 pin to 9 pin firewire cable.
    Here is a link.

    Other things to check:
Is your camera plugged in to wall power (not to batteries only). Must be hooked to an AC power source to import.

  • Brand new MacBook Pro can't handle 720p Video in iMovie?

Well, my Black 2.0 GHz Core Duo MacBook has been replaced by the new 13" 2.26 Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro (I had to pay the difference) and I had it upgraded to 4GB of Ram and a 320GB Hard Drive!
I use a Kodak z1085 IS Digital Camera that records videos in 720p quality. When I import them into iMovie '09, I get this message:
This is the same thing that I got on my Core Duo MacBook. If I did not optimize the video, it would play choppy and could not keep up. On my new MacBook Pro, I still get this message saying that "my computer can't handle it." I can undersatnd my old Core Duo MacBook not being able to handle it, but when a brand new $2000 MacBook Pro can't handle 720p video, somthing has to be wrong here.
Are there cretin specs that indicate what computer can handle what? I'm guessing that this MacBook Pro CAN handle it, but why am I still getting that message? Do I need a $10,000 Mac Pro Tower system to make it happy?
Can anyone please explain this and help me out?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    +Well... for starters, the 2.26GHz MB Pro is not a $2,000 machine.+
Sorry...$1.5 thousand. Still too much for a brand machine that isn't "powerful enough" to run software that came out before the computer did.
+For all intents and purposes, it's an entry level notebook (despite the name "Pro")... with only slightly higher specifications than the white MacBook.+
So its only slightly better then the model that can only handle solitaire or any other basic application? I find it odd Apple would include iLife if these machines can't handle all of the features that they are supposed to. Pro means professional. that means this machine should be able to handle PRO applications like Final Cut, etc. But how can it if it can't even handle iMovie! Not to mention they screwed us out of using the old version...so I am stuck using this version!
+I'm not exactly sure what you mean when you say your black MacBook was replaced by a new 2.26GHz machine... but you had to pay the difference... It sounds like you were perhaps having problems with your MacBook and Apple allowed you to upgrade to the newest version paying something additional. If that's the case, it sounds like they were very generous as you had a first gen MacBook that was about three years old.+
Yes that is exactly what happened. My Black MacBook had many issues. I sent it in for repair three times and even took it to an Apple store when I was on vacation. (don't have any apple stores where I live) All of these repairs did not fix the problems and they kept on coming! So they offered to just replace it. But they don't sell the Black MacBook anymore. Only the white...and I don't like the white (thats why I bought the black!) so that is when they offered me the MacBook Pro if I paid the difference. In which I did. So that is how I got my new MacBook Pro.
+Are you saying that your video plays choppy on your new machine... or just that you get the message stating that it may play poorly?+
Both....It shows that message, and does play somewhat choppy. Not as choppy as the old MacBook though.
Like I said, I'd just like to know what Apple calls "good enough" so it doesn't display that warning.

  • I have the G Drive 1 TB (GEN4 1TB) external drive purchased in 2010. I need to connect to my new MacBook Pro. I'm using the external drive for media storage of my video editing projects. Will a 800fw to thunderbolt adapter cable work?

Will a 800fw to thunderbolt adapter cable work? I understand that using a USB port connection is not fast enough for video editing. I read somewhere the G Drives don't connect well to MacBook Pro.

I doubt this can be relocated or moved so you might want to just repost in the macbook pro area.

Can you afford a new Thunderbolt case and cable? any case with FW800 is going to be slow 72MB/sec and less, and any new 1TB drive is capable of 75MB/s minimum up to 125MB/sec.
Thunderbolt storage can of course when setup properly reach 100's of MB higher using multiple drives.
Use what you have for a system backup or for secondary backup storage.
you might be able to take the drive - most cases allow you to open and swap drives - and use this:

  • HT3775 What codec do I need to play video that is called .avi.  It will not play on my new Macbook Pro.

What codec do I need to add to play a video that is called .avi
It will not play on my new Macbook Pro since I put it into the movies section of my launchpad.  When it was on the desktop It worked fine.  I moved it back to the desktop and it still does not work.
The error message says  The document "   .avi" could not be opened.
A required codec is not available.

Download VLC Media Player which plays anything you throw at it and  Perian (AVI and FLV support).

  • I tried to download video from RCA Small Wonder EZ201 to my new macbook pro.  Macbook pro recognizes the device but then message appears that device was improperly ejected when it is still connected. How can I download these videos?

When I connect the RCA Small Wonder to my MacBook Pro, the device is recognized in finder as EZ201.  I tried to copy the video files in the folder but within a minute or two, I receive a message that the disk was ejected improperly, even though the device is still connected.  I was able to download the first few videos before it stopped working and was able to play them using Perian.  However, when I tried to connect the device again, it froze my system and I had to force a shut down by turning the computer off. Why is the device initially recongized but then shows as improperly ejected when it is still connected? How can I download the videos if the MacBook Pro won't allow the device to stay connected?

A picture of a screen that suggests my new MBP Retina never connects to the "Macbook Pro backup ("StefanTimeCapsule")
This is the one that has the files for the backups procured by the Time Machine program. But it can't "connect"-- You 'll see int he sideways pic (sorry!) that the options STILL says "connecting"
Do i have to make these Time Machines more open to connection?

Since Apple has stopped supporting and offering iDVD you'll need to purchase the iLIfe 11 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: iLife 11 which will include iDVD 7.
