Import wav

We have a narration and we need to synchronize our animations to the sound. I wanted to import in wav so I could have the best quality possible. But strangely, the speaker icon doesn't even appear on the timeline! It seems to not even recognize it as a sound. When I double-click on my file in the library, I can't have a preview of that file : it's just blank.
Outside after effects the sound works just fine.
What might be the problem here?
Thank you very much for your time.

What kind of .wav file? There are a bunch of compression and bit depth options. More specifics about your system and your sound files would help. It would also help to know how you created your sound file and whether or not you can play it back in QT or other player.

  • Tempo problems with imported wav files

Hey everyone, sorry if there's a quick fix for this in the forums that I couldn't find, but I've been having some tempo problems with imported .wav files.
Long story short, my system couldn't handle playing all the tracks for a song while recording drums, so I bounced out an mp3 of the song and put it in a new Logic file so my drummer could just play along to that as I recorded him. Unfortunately, the original song is at 167 bpm, but I forgot to change the bpm in the new Logic file with the .mp3 file of the song to 167 bpm, so it was left at the default 120 bpm.
So, the drums were recorded at the correct 167 bpm, but Logic thinks that those new drum .wav files should be played at 120 bpm, so when I import my drum tracks back into the original file, they do not play correctly at all.
I could get record it all again, but I wanted to check if there was a way I could salvage what I already have, since my drummer lives about an hour away right now and can't just come over whenever he wants.
Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it.

    Hi,
First, do not use MP3 in Logic, the sound quality is less than AIFF, WAV or CAF, and Logic has to decode it for playback, making it a heavier burden on the CPU than an uncoded audiofile, such as AIFF, WAV or CAF.
Secondly, audio files are independent of Logic's tempo. If you bounce down an audio file in any format (other than Apple Loop), it will play back at the same speed, +regardless of Logics' tempo setting+, either at recording or playback. Logic doesn't 'think' anything. The BPM is only important to MIDI tracks, or to the spacing between audio files. The audio files themselves *are not affected* by the tempo setting. If you import an audio file of tempo 167 into a 120 BPM project, the file will still play at 167, only Logic will indicate the wrong bar positions.
    regards, Erik.

  • Importing wav. files into itunes on MAC OSX

I have a question, hope someone has the answer.
I am a new mac owner, new ipod owner too.
I currently have 200-300 gigabytes of SHN and FLAC files on my PC (mostly grateful dead soundboard recordings).
I am planning on converting these files to WAV. format with "artist", "album" (show date), and "song" ID tags.
I then plan on copying these WAV. files to my imac or separate external hard drive formatted for MAC OSX.
    OK THE QUESTION (finally, no?),
When WAV. files are imported into itunes are they automatically converted to the MP4 AAC format?
I have looked in the itune PREFERENCES menu I go to ADVANCED and see that there is a control for switching file formats for importing CD'S but there is no mention of importing WAV. files.
On another note it is too bad that Apple has not come up with a file conversion utility for itunes, where FLAC, SHN, and WAV. files could be converted to MP4AAC, Apple Losless, etc...
I appreciate any answers to my question, and also comments regarding the general subject of audio file conversion on the MAC OSX.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Firstly, I must point out that WAV doesn't support tagging, so there is no point in converting your compressed FLAC and SHN files to WAV before making the move over to a Mac.
Rather, it would make more sense to use the free and excellent Max to convert all these files automatically to the format of your choice, such as Apple Lossless. You can even run multiple conversions simultaneously, so you could, say, convert your whole lot of files to Apple Lossless while at the same time convert the same lot to AAC for use on your iPod. The program is highly configurable, allowing you to specify destination directories and whether or not the output files are added directly to your iTunes library. Also, the tagging will be preserved when converting FLAC and SHN files to supported formats.

  • Importing .wav files on LE 8

For some reason when i import the .wav files they play very slow. Please help. I have had no trouble before importing but this is the first time I am importing .wav files. I thought it would be easy.

    Yeah, maybe.
If you import a file with 96KHz and play it back with 44.1, without any kind of conversion it will play about half as fast. Maybe that's the point. You can, however, convert the files in the Audio bin. (Thats to where you should import them to, btw)
If everything else fails, you can still speed them up using time&pitch machine.

  • Importing wav files with dead space?

I'm curious if anyone else has experienced slow loading times/overview calculations when importing wav files with lots of dead space into Logic?
Working on vocal comps from a Pro Tools session. Logic has no problem importing full takes (24-bit, 44kHz wav files that basically start at the beginning of the song). But alternate takes that might have complete silence until the 3rd chorus, for example, take forever to load. 10+ minutes in some cases.
If anyone can shed some light on this or share a similar experience, I'd appreciate it.
Tech details, if it helps:  Macbook Pro 2.53 GHz Intel Core Duo, 4GB RAM, Lion 10.7.2, Logic Pro 9.1.6

Well, iTunes has no ability to undo edits, so the problem may lie elsewhere. Please try the following extra-extra-careful procedure:
    - Edit the file and save it.
    - Exit the editor.
    - Make sure you know filename/location of the edited file, and that you are not confusing it with some unedited copy of the same song.
    - Play the edited file in some other player than iTunes and make sure the edits are as you wished.
    - Now, add the file to your iTunes library.
Pls try this and let us know.

  • Importing Wav Files in Soundtrack 4

How do I import wav files to Soundtrack 4?
    Thank You!

Open a new multitrack project and set the view to standard. In the right pane in the bottom half select the Browser tab. Locate your WAV file so it shows in the browser window and then click on it and drag it onto track 1.
Use a multitrack project if you want to export to compressor, or export directly out to an mp3.
If these considerations are unimportant, you can just double-click the WAV and it will open a new audio file project.
    Hope that helps.

  • Cannot import wav files

I'm relatively new to working with captivate and am trying to
import a .wav file into a slide. According to a book on Captivate
from Icon logic - it says that captivate supports mp3 files and wav
files. It also says that that when imported, WAV files are
converted to mp3 format. When I try to import a wav file I get a
message that says "unable to decode and import the selected sav/mp3
file". Does anyone know how to address this? thanks!

    Hi Sue
The answer to that is a definite "it depends". Here's the
deal. Captivate does import WAV format. But it only understands WAV
format that has been what is called "PCM Encoded". There are
different encoding types for audio files.
You may find that you never encounter this again. Or, you may
find that nearly every file you choose to import has to be
converted. It all depends on the original encoding of the file.
I realize this answer is a bit on the vague side. Apologies
for that. Unfortunately there is no definite one size fits all
    answer here.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Importing Wave files

I have imported wave files into my project but they somehow loose one side of the stereo. I can change the panning and make it mono but I'm wondering why it's doing that. The same files play as stereo outside the project. What am I missing?

    They aren't losing anything.
When you use audio clips that are a *stereo pair*, the pan control displays as all the way to the left -it can't display both. Unlink the stereo pair and you will see that you now have two audio tabs in the Viewer, one panned left, the other panned right.

  • Importing .wav in fcp 7.01

Is there any known issues with fcp 7.01? If I import .wav files
originated from a protools FCP sees it at 25fps, and I know that the
    mix was done at 29.97.
If I import an AAF, thru automatic duck, frame rate is normal.

I guess this is a commom problem. It´s the same problem on all our Macs (Mac Pros, MacBook Pros). I can see all the clips in the Log&Transfer window and play the clips. But when I try to import them the progressbar will not start, and after a few seconds I´m getting a !-sign in the status.

  • How do you import .WAV files into Presonus studio one pro on a Mac Mini

I am new to this type of forum and I don't know how to ask a good question but here goes.  I have a Mac Mini and I am getting very frustrated with my presonus DAW software.  I was able to import .WAV files int o my PC Real easy but I don't seem to be able to find out how to do it with my Mac Mini.  I clicked on import files and the files would magically transfer themselves into my DAW on my PC, but with the mac it doesn't want to do it the same way.  I E-mailed the software company but they told me to do lit just like I have been importing with my PC but it doesn't work.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I might also mention that this is my first Mac and I am not too familiar with the operating system yet, and besides all that I am fairly new to computer recording.  Please help I am going nuts.
    Thanks Abel

Convert the DVD's VOB files into a format that works natively in FCE.  For DVD footage (which is SD), use MPEG Streamclip to do the converting.  Here's a tutorial on using MPEG Streamclip: http://www.secondchairvideo.com/?p=739
MPEG Streamclip is freeware, but you may need to purchase the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component from Apple if you don't have it already.

  • HT1550 Please suggest basic workflow for importing .wav

Please suggest basic workflow for importing .wav from a (Zoom H4n) SD card. How about keeping the .wav on the MacBook and converting to an other format at the same time. Is there a RAW-to-JPEG analog for this?

How about keeping the .wav on the MacBook and converting to an other format at the same time.
    iTunes prefs > General.
Click the Import Settings... button and set the format you want the files to be.
Hold Option and File > Create AAC - Convert to AAC (or whatever format you selected above) then select the folder with the files on the SD card.
This will import/convert the files at the same time.
The WAV files will remain untouched on the SD card. They will not be on the computer (the the AAC version will be in iTunes).

  • Cannot hear imported wav files in the output

Hi, I am using Macromedia Captivate. Version 1.01.1447
I have imported a wav file and when I am playing the slide containing the audio file everything is fine, in particular I hear my audio file. However, when going to the preview of the entire slideshow (or just 5 slides), or if I preview the show in the browser, I do not hear anything. Also, when exporting the movie as a standalone file, I don't hear anything.
Does anyone know a solution for this issue?
    Thanks!

If you can get to the instrument editor, drag and drop your regions or files onto the keyboard and answer the following questions. To preview it have an EXS24 loaded up with EXS Instrument #5678 (or whichever number it happens to be.

  • How do I import wav files from an external hard drive into itunes converting to aac?

I have 270 gig of wav files on an external hard drive.  I am having trouble finding a way to import these into itunes while converting to aac

Note that .wav files do not carry a tag. If you import files of the form ..\<Artist>\<Album>\## <Name> into iTunes it will fill in the name property as the filename ## <Name> and all other fields will be blank.  Assuming there is useful data in the path to capture, use Edit > Preferences > Avanced and disable the Keep... and Copy... options before adding the tracks to iTunes. You can then use the script TagFromFilename to fill in the blanks. Once this information is there you can convert the files to their new format and the converted files will inherit the track details.
You might want to consider initially converting to Apple Lossless which could halve the physical size of the collection with no loss of quality, and permanently embed the tag details. You can then choose to make a downsampled collection while retaining the full quality lossless copies and completely discarding the .wav originals.
