Importance of Memory Pairing Questions.

I recently bought a 2.2ghz macbook, and left it with the 1gb of memory to keep cost to a minimum. I knew I was going to upgrade later down the line, but for much cheaper then what apple wanted to charge me. So, here I am looking at my choices. I know i want to in the end, end up with 4gb of memory, so what I am asking is what is my best choice when trying to save money.
A: Just buy a 2gb kit (2x1gb) and wait until 4gb kits are cheaper.
B: Buy a 2gb stick, and wait until another 2gb stick is cheaper.
C: Buy 2gb sticks that aren't too much money (not a kit)
D: Just get a 4gb kit.
My real question is what's the difference if any, between a 4gb kit, and 2; 2gb sticks (sold separetly)
thanks.

Getting build-to-order memory isn't anywhere near cost effective, so you were probably better of not doing it. The correct memory kits for the MacBook are anywhere from under $50 for 2GB to under $100 for 4GB. Most people can capably do it themselves with a $4 #00 Philips screwdriver.
There theoretically shouldn't be any real difference with two single 2GB should you buy them at the same time and they come from the same lot. However - you always run the chance that each module may be slightly different even if you buy them at the same time. Some brands use different memory suppliers and can change the individual ICs and/or module design. Sometimes there's different revision information. Nobody I know of has found a surefire way to ensure that the memory controller recognizes the memory as a matched pair (to achieve dual channel) short of buying a pair that is guaranteed to be identical.
The alleged benefit of a "matched pair" or "dual channel" memory kits is that they are guaranteed to be the same, down to the exact same information in the serial presence detect EEPROM on the modules. Another benefit is that they are typically warrantied together. If one module fails, the seller will likely replace the entire pair with another matched set. The replacements that are available might not be exactly the same as the original.
Dual channel would mean that both pairs are accessed in parallel, and should theoretically mean higher performance. I don't think it's really the bottleneck, but apparently it results in slightly higher video performance with the integrated video that uses a segment of the system memory.

confusion re: photostream, import from memory card, events, etc.
Up until a few weeks ago, my travel-photo-handling went like this:
Each night, I download photos to my iPad for safekeeping. They, of course, wind up in Photostream.
When I return home, I connect my camera card to my iMac (where I have my iPhoto library), and I can "see" the photos on my memory card - the photos which, although in Photostream, I have not yet manually downloaded.
    I select and ownload them.
New Events are created in my Library automatically, as I have my preference set to Autosplit Events.
This week, I came home from a trip during which I had downloaded to iPad during my time away.
I connected my memory card to the iMac.
iPhoto did not "see" any photos to import - as far as iPhoto was concerned, those photos were already in my Library.
I had iPhoto show all photos on my card, selected the photos from my trip (I shot over 1000) and clicked "Import Selected"
    iPhoto says they're duplicates.
However, the photos have NOT been downloaded manually and there are NO Events in my Library for those days.
Note: yeah, they're in Photostream, but IN THE PAST - and I mean literally up until 3 weeks ago - the photos have ALWAYS been "visible" and importable even if in Photostream, as long as I had not yet manually downloaded to the computer.
So my question, I guess, is multi-part:
What changed in iPhoto and/or Photostream in the past couple of weeks?
Why are Photostream photos suddenly considered to be the same as the photos on my card which have not yet been manually downloaded to the computer?
What the heck is going on?
I hate having duplicates, but I also hate being confused by something that used to be really easy, then - with Photosream - became annoying, and is now simply perplexing and sometimes imcomprehendable.

Check iPhoto's Photo Stream preference pane to see if the highlighted checkbox in the screenshot below is checked.  If it is then all photos taken by the iPad are automatifdally being imported into your library.
Go the the Events mode and check the View ➙ Sort menu option to verify where new Evens will be located, at the top of the window or the bottom.  Then check to see if your PS pictures are there.
As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Connect your iPad and import all photos.  Dismount the iPad, close and reopen the test library, connect the iPad again and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
If it does'nt then your current library is damaged and needs to be repaired.

I want to check all functions of PCI 6534.I have read the user manual..I have some memory related questions. Please help me for that.
1.)If i am using the continuous output mode.and the size of generated data is less than 32 MB.If i want to preload the memory, what should i do?I want that first of all i load all my data to onboard memory & then i want to make start the transfer between 6534 & peripheral. Is it possible? As per me it should be.Plz tell me how should i do this?I think that in normal procedure the transfer between 6534-peripheral & outputting data from pc buffer to onboard memory works parallely. But i don't want this.Is it poss
    ible?
(2).Similarly in finite input operation(pattern I/O) is it possible to preload the memory and then i read it?Because i think that the PC memory will be loaded automatically when 6534 acquires the data and then when we use DIO read vi the pc buffer data will be transferred to application buffer. If this is true,i do not want this.Is it possible?
    (3) One more question is there if i am using normal operation onboard memory will be used bydefault right? Now if i want to use DMA and if i have data of 512 bytes to acquire. How will it work and how should i do it?Please tell me the sequence of operations. As per my knowledge in normal DMA operation we have 32 Bytes FIFO is there so after acquisition of 32 bytes only i can read it.How it will known to me that 32 bytes acquisition is complete?Next,If i want to acquire each byte separately using DMA interrupts what should i do?Provide me the name of sourse from which i can get details about onboard memory & DMA process of 6534 specifically
(4).In 6534 pattern Input mode,if i want to but only 10 bits of data.and i don't want to waste any data line what should i do?

    Hi Vishal,
I'll try to answer your questions as best I can.
    1) It is definitely possible to preload data to the 32MB memory (per group) and start the acquisition after you have preloaded the memory. There are example programs on ni.com/support under Example Code for pattern generation and the 6534 that demonstrate which functions to use for this. Also, if your PC memory buffer is less than 32MB, it will automatically be loaded to the card. If you are in continuous mode however, you can choose to loop using the on-board memory or you can constantly be reading the PC memory buffer as you update it with your application environment.
    2) Yes, your data will automatically be loaded into the card's onboard memory. It will however be transferred as quickly as possible to the DMA FIFO on the card and then transferred to the PC memory buffer through DMA. It is not going to wait until the whole onboard memory is filled before it transfers. It will transfer throughout the acquisition process.
    3) Vishal, searching the example programs will give you many of the details of programming this type of application. I don't know you application software so I can't give you the exact functions but it is easiest to look at the examples on the net (or the shipping examples with your software). Now if you are acquiring 512 bytes of data, you will start to fill your onboard memory and at the same time, data will be sent to the DMA FIFO. When the FIFO is ready to send data to the PC memory buffer, it will (the exact algorithm is dependent on many things regarding how large the DMA packet is etc.).
    4) If I understand you correctly, you want to know if you waste the other 6 bits if you only need to acquire on 10 lines. The answer to this is Yes. Although you are only acquiring 10 bits, it is acquired as a complete word (16bits) and packed and sent using DMA. You application software (NI-DAQ driver) will filter out the last 6 bits of non-data.
Hope that answers your questions. Once again, the example code on the NI site is a great place to start this type of project. Have a good day.

  • Is there a way to see a list of what has been imported to memory?

    Memory Experts,
The prorgram I am working with has an Import from Memory ID statement that is coming up empty.
I am in a user exit in the include MV45AFZZ.
I can not find what program/include/function module/etc. did the export to this memory ID.
Does anyone know a way to find out what program did the export on this data?
When in debug - is there a command (we are running ECC 6.0) to list what is in memory at that point in time?

  • IMPORT to memory id with field exit

hi everyone, i need your help, i'm import to memory/export with field exit, I must capture a data of ik11, from table IMRG... this is the code:
    FUNCTION FIELD_EXIT_IMRC_MDOCM.
       DATA: V_MDOC LIKE IMRG-MDOCM.
EXPORT V_MDOC TO MEMORY ID 'DOC'.
    ENDFUNCTION.
And the field exit where capture the data and import to memory:
    FUNCTION FIELD_EXIT_IMRC_CNTRC.
GET PARAMETER ID 'IPT' FIELD V_POINT.
IMPORT V_MDOC FROM MEMORY ID 'DOC'.
        MESSAGE E001(ZEXITS_PRUEBAS) WITH V_MDOC.
    ENDFUNCTION.
I proof with message, 'cause i can't use a break, really?!!!!
    Please help me!
    Thanks.!

    Hi Jimena,
I remember a field exit being connected to a data element and program screen (dynpro). The field exit is processed when the screen field is processed by dynpro processor. But I do not see the screen field's value being exported to memory.
The reason you can't put brekpoints is that actually the code is triggered by dynpro processor not abap runtime environment.
If you want to proove thecode beeing executed, you can write info to file.
SAP does not actively support field exits since a couple of releases. Are you sure this still works?
You could try to find a BADI: Use the method I found at SDN some time ago:
Follow the below steps to find out what all BADI's are called when you press any button in any transaction.
    1) Goto se24 (Display class cl_exithandler)
    2) Double click on the method GET_INSTANCE.
    3) Put a break point at Line no.25 (CASE sy-subrc).
    Now
    4) Execute SAP standard transaction
    5) Press the required button for which you need to write an exit logic, the execution will stop at the break point.
    6) Check the values of variable 'exit_name', it will give you the BADI name called at that time.
    7) This way you will find all the BADIs called on click of any button in any transaction.

  • EXPORT/IMPORT  to MEMORY

    Hi,
I want to know if a parameter ID  of "export/import to memory" instruction is available in two differents session with different user's login?
    tks
    Carlos

The use of the shared buffer may be of some interest to you.
    <b>From F1 help</b>
<i>EXPORT obj1 ... objn TO SHARED BUFFER dbtab(ar) ID key.
    Additions:
    1. ... = f (for each field you want to export)
    2. ... FROM f (for each field you want to export)
    3. ... CLIENT g (before ID key)
    4. ... FROM wa (as last addition or after dbtab(ar))
In an ABAP Objects context, a more severe syntax check is performed that in other ABAP areas. See Implicit field names not allowed in clusters and Table work areas not allowed.
    Effect
Stores a data cluster in the cross-transaction application buffer. The specified objects obj1 ... objn (fields, structures, or tables) are stored as a single cluster in the buffer.
The specified table dbtab must have a standard structure.
The buffer area for the table dbtab is divided into various logically-related areas (ar, two-character ID).
You can export a collection of data objects (data cluster) to an area of the buffer under a key of your own choosing (key field).
You can import individual data objects from this collection using the IMPORT statement (as long as the data has not been deleted from the buffer).
    Notes
In classes, you must always specify explicit names for the data objects. Addition 1 or addition 2 is therefore obligatory.
In classes, you must always specify the work area explicitly. Addition 4 is therefore obligatory.
The table dbtab that you specify after SHARED BUFFER must be declared under TABLES (except in addition 4).
You cannot export the header line of an internal table. If you specify the name of an internal table with a header line, the system always exports the actual table data.
You cannot export data, object, and interface references.
Please consult Data Area and Modularization Unit Organization documentation as well.
    Example
Exporting two fields and an internal table to the buffer with structure INDX:
    TABLES INDX.
    TYPES: BEGIN OF ITAB3_TYPE,
              CONT(4),
           END OF ITAB3_TYPE.
DATA: INDXKEY LIKE INDX-SRTFD VALUE 'KEYVALUE',
          F1(4), F2 TYPE P,
ITAB3 TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF ITAB3_TYPE WITH
NON-UNIQUE DEFAULT KEY INITIAL SIZE 2,
          WA_INDX TYPE INDX.
    Fill data fields before CLUSTR
    before the actual export
    INDX-AEDAT = SY-DATUM.
    INDX-USERA = SY-UNAME.
    Export data.
    EXPORT F1    FROM F1
           F2    FROM F2
           ITAB3 FROM ITAB3
TO SHARED BUFFER INDX(ST) FROM WA_INDX ID INDXKEY.
    Addition 1
... = f (for each object you want to export)
    Effect
Exports the contents of the field f and stores them under the specified name.
    Addition 2
... FROM f (for each field you want to export)
    Effect
Exports the contents of field f and stores them under the specified name.
    Addition 3
... CLIENT g (before ID key)
    Effect
The data objects are stored in client g (as long as the import/export table dbtab is client-specific).
    Addition 4
... FROM wa (as last addition or after dbtab(ar))
    Effect
Use this addition if you want to store user data fields in the application buffer. Instead of the table work area, the system uses the specified work area wa. The specified work area must have the same structure as the table dbtab.
    Example
    DATA WA LIKE INDX.
    DATA F1.
    WA-AEDAT = SY-DATUM.
    WA-USERA = SY-UNAME.
    WA-PGMID = SY-REPID.
    EXPORT F1 = F1 TO SHARED BUFFER INDX(AR)
                   CLIENT '001' ID 'TEST'
                   FROM WA.
    Note
    Catchable runtime error
EXPORT_BUFFER_NO_MEMORY: The EXPORT data cluster is too big for the application buffer. This error should not occur often, since the buffer uses a procedure similar to the LRU(Least Recently Used) procedure to monitor the buffer contents. However, if the error does occur, you can increase the profile parameter rsdb/obj/buffersize (see Profile Parameter Attributes), which may help.</i>

  • Problems with EXPORT TO MEMORY / IMPORT FROM MEMORY

    Hello.
we've just made a SAP OS/DB migration of our 46C system from UNIX/Oracle to Windows/SQL.
Our FI consultant has realized a processs failed.
The ABAP program that files (it is a Z program) is using EXPORT TO MEMORY and IMPORT TO MEMORY.
It seems the import is failing because the export to memory fails also.
Of course we have changed memory parameters ..do you know what memory parameters are involved?
Thanks very much for your help.

It seems the import is failing because the export to memory fails also.
    Can you explain?
Did you check the extended debugger facilities like memory areas?
What is the structure/amount of data for ex- and import, same name, same data object?
Just reveal what you are really doing, post a few code lines.
    Or not.

  • Firefox 27 memory leak (/questions/978195)

I already did this, sorry , but now I include the automated information.....
More than 6GB in 3 hours (MacOSX 10.7.5, 16Gb RAM)
(No time personally to look at this but, I have tagged it as escalate)

I will make a quick comment, but am unlikely to get back to this again before the weekend.
First do not think we are ignoring this or saying it is not a problem. It is a case of it is something often difficult to pin down and must initially be checked and compared with Firefox in a clean configuration, and using memory figures from the Firefox's reporter about:memory.
If you can ramp up memory usage to 6GB in only 3 hours at least it should be relatively easy to demonstrate whether or not something prevents that from happening.
    As a test please
*Make an new additional Firefox Profile,
*Run Firefox in Firefox's safe mode
    *With all plugins disabled
    * Look at memory use by using ''about:memory''
    * Browse for a few hours, has the problem now disappeared ?

  • P45 Neo3-FR memory problem / questions

    Hello all
My old motherboard just died on me so yesterday I upgraded to a P45 Neo3-FR with an Intel E8500.  Problem is that I can't get it to boot up with my old memory (4 x 1Gb modules as below).  Most of the time the PC doesn't do anything, no screen, no post, but occasionally some weird characters at the top of the screen.  I have put in some old DDR2 RAM and the system starts up OK.  I bought this board as the MSI spec page says it supports 1066 memory.
    Questions,
    1) Is there any chance of getting this memory working in the board?
    2) If so, how?
    3) If not, what should I replace it with?
    4) Do I need to touch the 2 jumpers to change the FSB.  I left them on default and everything "seems" to be working OK but I guess I should be setting them to 333 for my CPU?
    5) I have installed 2 system fans on the MB connectors.  The fans are spinning but the speeds are not being reported in the BIOS.  Any ideas?
    6) Is there a comprehensive setup guide for this board anywhere on this forum?  There was an excellent one for my old MSI board and I'm not finding the manual to be much help to be honest.
Thanks very much (in advance) for any help with all this.
P.S.  I don-t know what BIOS version the board came with.  I will check it when I get home.

I bought this board as the MSI spec page says it supports 1066 memory.
Note that is says "1066* (OC)" on the product page.  The Intel P45 Chipset does not natively support DDR2-1066 memory modules.
This is the datasheet for your Corsair Memory modules:
    http://www.corsair.com/_datasheets/TWIN2X2048-8500C5DF.pdf
As you can see, these modules are essentially DDR2-800 modules and that DDR2-1066 @2.1-2.2V is an overclocking rating that requires non-standard voltage settings.  Those OC Settings are pre-programmed into the SPD Chips of your memory modules via an EPP-Profile which is essentially an overclocking profile which is for NVIDIA Chipset boards, not for Intel Chipset boards.  Even if the BIOS is able to notice the DDR2-1066 EPP profile and decides to AUTO-memory frequency to 1066 MHz, it is not able to raise the memory voltage accordingly (it can't, because as I said, EPP Profile Information and settings parameters are for NVIDIA Chipset.)
Do you see now, why your system won't boot?
    Try this:
    - try one of the factory overclocked Corsair stick alone
If that works, lower memory frequency to DDR2-800 in BIOS and check again, if the system will boot with four sticks (you may have to raise memory voltage slightly.
If that fails, put in one of your DDR2-800 sticks, then set FSB/DRAM Ratio to 1:1, save an exit and then try again with your factory overclocked modules.

  • MacBook Pro (Mid-2009, 13", 2.26) Memory Upgrade Question

I currently own a MacBook Pro (2.26; 13") (Mid-2009) with 2GB of memory. I purchased a single 4GB memory card that I plan to add in one of the slots. If I understand correctly that would leave me with a total of 5GB of memory (4GB   1GB). Is this workable?
I have heard rumours that both slots must have the same amount of memory. Regardless - will this be detrimental or an improvement?

Running Lion I would say go for more RAM. 2 GBs is Lion's minimum. If you run more than a couple of applications concurrently then you will quickly find yourself low on memory which would slow down the machine a lot more than the lack of matched pair RAM modules. I would say 4 GBs is a good compromise for casual uses. But if you're trying to run all the Adobe CS5 apps or all of the Office apps concurrently, then you'll be happier with 6 GBs of RAM. But it's hard to know what to suggest since only you know your operating situation, so here's some info that may help you make the decision.
About OS X Memory Management and Usage
Reading system memory usage in Activity Monitor
Memory Management in Mac OS X
Performance Guidelines- Memory Management in Mac OS X
A detailed look at memory usage in OS X
Understanding top output in the Terminal
The amount of available RAM for applications is the sum of Free RAM and Inactive RAM. This will change as applications are opened and closed or change from active to inactive status. The Swap figure represents an estimate of the total amount of swap space required for VM if used, but does not necessarily indicate the actual size of the existing swap file. If you are really in need of more RAM that would be indicated by how frequently the system uses VM. If you open the Terminal and run the top command at the prompt you will find information reported on Pageins () and Pageouts (). Pageouts () is the important figure. If the value in the parentheses is 0 (zero) then OS X is not making instantaneous use of VM which means you have adequate physical RAM for the system with the applications you have loaded. If the figure in parentheses is running positive and your hard drive is constantly being used (thrashing) then you need more physical RAM.
Adding RAM only makes it possible to run more programs concurrently.  It doesn't speed up the computer nor make games run faster.  What it can do is prevent the system from having to use disk-based VM when it runs out of RAM because you are trying to run too many applications concurrently or using applications that are extremely RAM dependent.  It will improve the performance of applications that run mostly in RAM or when loading programs.

  • Memory riser question

I have another 2GB (2 x 1GB) ready to install in my Pro when it arrives. I know that I should keep the 1GB (2 x 512) on one of the riser cards and put the additional memory on the other riser card. I’ve also seen it stated that the larger memory should be on riser card one and the smaller memory on riser card two. The question is can I pull out both riser cards, slide the one with the pair of 512MB modules into the number two position, add my new memory to the other card, and then slide that into the number one position, or do I need to pull the two 512MB sticks off the riser card its on and move it to the other card. Or more simply put can the position of the cards be swapped or do they need to be in their original positions.
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Basically, for best performance you need to have Slots 1/2 on both Risers filled. From then, performance is best when you have RAM totals that are even (or 1GB difference) between them. So if you have 1GB RAM on Riser A you should have 1 or 2GB on Riser B.
There is NO difference between the Risers. They are both the same and should be treated as such.

  • Memory upgrade question / mixing dimms

    Hi ,
    i`m wanting to add another 1gb of ram to my  875P Neo-FIS2R. I currently have 2 x kingston kvr400x64c25/512 512mb ddr400 cl2.5 and want to add
