Important Advice : Clean update

Hey guys,
For some reason many people are facing issues with updating ther iPhones. I also faced major ones with the 2.0.1 update. Similar reactions can be observed with 2.0.2
A common reason for the issues is a corrupt update file. To resolve issues if you have Windows, delete the previous update file from the folder:
C:\Documents and Settings{Admin User}\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
For Mac Users, Try searching an executable file "iPhone" Once you identify the setup file, you can delete it and proceed further.
Then start iTunes and look for updates for your iPhone. You will be able to download a fresh copy of the update setup file. Try reinstalling the update on to your phone and things should be fine.

Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Other things you can do to gain space.
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive older emails you want to save to disc, Flash drive/s or to ext. hard drive.
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, Flash drive or ext. hard drive and/or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Uninstall apps that you no longer use. If the app has a dedicated uninstaller, use it to completely uninstall the app. If the app has no uninstaller, then just drag it to the OS X Trash icon  and empty the Trash.
Also, if you save old downloaded  .dmg application installer  files, you can either archive and delete these or just delete the ones you think you'll never install, again.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its thing initially, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run all of the processes in the tabs. Let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be thinned out, moved, also, to the external hard drive and then either archived to disc, Flash drive or ext. hard drive and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
    Good Luck!

  • Advice about updating os

I'm hoping that some generous soul will give me a bit of advice about updating the os.
I have a macbook intel core 2 duo 2.16 running osx 10.4.9 I have stayed with this os for the last year or so becuase it was the only one that would run protools. But now safari is having trouble loading some pages and regularly quits unexpectly and things are generally slower.
Would it be a good idea to buy a new version of mac os (like leopard), reformat the machine and start again? if so, is it a straighforward process (like it usually is on a pc)?
    thanks.

One thing to keep in mind, applications and even Operating Systems do not wear out. If they worked at one time they should continue to work under the same circumstances indefinitely. Something may have gotten corrupt and need fixing. Sometimes an update will cover this by virtue of throwing out the corrupted file because that files gets replaced in the update but that does not necessarily happen, depending. It is far better to fix a problem before installing an update, and then it is very smart to have a way to revert to your "pre-update" status should you discover that the update has something that will not work with your setup. It happens often enough.
Updates only add features and maybe fix bugs but they can also add bugs and break things that have worked.

  • Why my ipad3 speaker volumn is lower than normal (7.0.3 Clean update)

Why my ipad3 speaker volumn is lower than normal (7.0.3 Clean update)

Youtube videos use a lot of bandwidth on the phone, Wifi or cellular, cpu, gpu, screen output.  and will put a big strain on the battery.  14% in 10 minutes does seem high, but the other thing to keep in mind, iphone 4 and 4S are 3 and 2 year old phones for the most part.  lithium ion batteries hold a pretty good charge but they do wear out over time.
I have updated to iOS 7.0.4 and have actually gotten better battery life then when I was on iOS 6.X.  Apple is doing everything they can to get as much battery life out of the little battery in the iPhone.  But the combination of an older battery, a high res screen, and a very power hungry app like Youtube or any GPS app will suck the life right out of any battery you could use with any OS you can throw at it.

  • "Clean" update from Tiger to Leopard

    Hi folks,
I plan to update to Leopard when it comes out next week. Since I'm on my first Mac and don't have any experience with installing/upgrading Mac OS I've got a couple of questions.
What I'd like to do is to back up all my stuff on an external drive (I already do that for a while) and then do a clean install of Leopard (that is: erase the harddisk before installing instead of a "live" update). The reason I'd like to do this is that I found out that there's a lot of unused stuff that came with the pre-installed Tiger on my MBP that just wastes space. And some third party applications/drivers that I wanted to check out when I was becoming familiar with working on a Mac also waste space, and a clean install is good way to get rid of this cruft
So the first question is: will I be able to do an "expert" install where I can influence what will be installed (at least to a degree, e.g. select which language files to install) ? I guess only people with access to beta releases of Leopard will be able to answer that, so how is Tiger in this respect ?
Let's assume I now have a clean install of Leopard. I now want my old data back. I know I can backup my iTunes music on CD's/DVD's and should be able to load them back (anything I would have to look out for here ?). I found a document describing how to handle other Apple applications at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301239 , do I need to look out for something else (apart from third party applications) ? My biggest concern is Keychain, BTW.
    Thanks for the help,
    Marc

    Hi folks,
so I'm on Leopard now Here's what I did. Sorry if I misname programs because I've got the german version and translate back to english.
First, I made a "normal" backup using iBackup just to be sure, then did the real backup: I cloned my Macintosh HD partition using Carbon Copy Cloner to an USB disk. I made sure that I was able to boot from that partitition (I've set it as the start volume in the system preferences and it came up fine). I also made a backup of my bought music in iTunes.
After double-checking back and forth I decided I'm ready and went and bought Leopard. I then started the installer and used the disk utility to erase the Macintosh HD volume. I customized the install to not install the languages I don't want and not install the printer drivers (3.8GB...). The install went fine and I was presented with the migration assistent.
I chose to migrate all accounts except my main account because I wanted to only copy the stuff I really need. Unfortunately I don't remember what else I've checked/unchecked. So I was finally able to log in using my administrator account and created a new main account. And now to my manual migration:
One of the first things I had to do was fix the owner of my account in the backup: because I haven't migrated it the user ID was wrong, so I had to "su" to my admin account and then "sudo bash" to become root and "chown -R myname:staff /Volume/Backup/Users/myname". No idea why the new main group for my account is "staff", but "id" says so. I guess there's a good reason for Apple to do that
First thing I wanted to migrate was my KeyChain. I guess I wasn't very clever, but it worked: I opened the KeyChain Helper and added my old KeyChain. I pressed Apple-A to mark all entries in my old keychain and moved them to my new keychain. It worked... but I had to enter my password for each entry, and there were a lot of them :-/
Importing the Safari bookmarks was a peace of cake: there's a "Import bookmarks" menu entry. Nobrainer.
Then I copied my iPhoto folder and realized there's no iPhoto application: so I popped in my MacBook Pro installation disk, ran "Install Bundled Software Only" to install iDVD and iPhoto. Haven't tried iDVD yet, but iPhoto seems to run fine and only copying the iPhoto directory was enough.
I didn't "migrate" my Mail settings as I'm using IMAP, so just entering the data again was faster and sure to work. I haven't really used the addressbook so I haven't tried migrating it.
Re-importing my bought music in iTunes using the backup DVD was also a no-brainer and I re-added the rest of my music to the mediathek (it still doesn't support Ogg Vorbis...).
The rest of my stuff are documents that don't need any special handling so I copied them with Finder. Haven't checked whether Heroes Of Might And Magic V and Civilization IV run but so far everythings seems to be fine. I had 9GB of free space before the update, now it's 40GB... I need to subtract a few GB because of the games and apps I need to reinstall, so let's say 30GB but all in all it was quite success
    Bye,

  • Importing a clean text in CS3

When I was with CS2, I had a Word macro that was cleaning my texts before importing it to InDesign. The resulting text was a Tagged Text, without any formatting. The work flow was simple: cleaning the Word files removing everything unnecessary (this was done with a powerful macro built over years), keeping only italic, super and subscript. Also keeping style tag when the document was well formed. Then saving it as a simple text file with the appropriate tagged text header. This work flow was so swift and saved me a lot of works.
With the venue of Word 2008, and InDesign CS3 I was facing a new challenge. My VBA macros didn't work any more and CS3 had trouble with importing tagged text (it seems to have been resolved since then). So I just imported my Word file with the «Removing style» option on and the flag «keep local overrides» checked.
However, this filter is annoying. Since we need usually to keep only italic, superscript and subscript in a text (and perhaps bold) (as in FrameMaker, by the way), I don't understand why this has not been implemented in InDesign so far.
Any idea, macros, on that subject?
Again, the task is simple: removing everything except the essential markers: italic, bold, sometimes styles, superscript and subscript.
In almost every importing task, this is what is needed.

well, I should be able to rebuild them in AppleScript, but there is a learning curve that I would have like to not climb ;-)
I'm just wondering why this simple task, so common in DTP has not been well implemented in InDesign...

  • Import PO Conditions, Update Price tab and price type

    Dear All,
Creation of Import PO is little bit panic for users as they have to maintain minimum 10/12 condition per
line item. Also have to maintain the respective vember. My question is
    1) During creation of PO condition value get copied. I want the 7 condition (JCDB,JCV1,JECV,J1CV, JECS,JSDB,JADC)
to be remain as it is and the balance freight, custom clearance, clearing charges to be wipe
out.But no such option found in "update prices" tab.Is there any setting to do such activity?
    2) Can i customize "pricing type "as per the requirement?
    3) Is there any way to avoid such tedious creation of Import PO?
    4) There are 22 entries for price type and 12 customer reserve fields. How to use/customize these fields?

    Hi Ajit,
In import PO generally the tax part is always fix.like BCDEcessHEcess,  CVDEcessHEcess, Additional Tax.But the
Insurance,Freight ,Clearing charges has to maintain as actual. So its maintain after receipt of Air way bill or Bill of Ladding.
So we want to maintain value of only tax condition at the time of creation of Import PO and balance when we were posting the planned delivery cost.Thats why we can't wipe out that condition from pricing procedure.
We want the other condition to be wipe out by  customizing in Update Price button...Hope this will u...

  • Can't import photos since updating to 10.10.3

Since upgrading to Yosemite 10.10.3 I can't import photos on my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013).
It just stops in the middle of the import of the first photo and pops up an error.
    "Import error (-9912)."
Note: The same camera and the same pictures imports perfectly on my not-yet-updated Macbook Air.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Import a clean MP3 file, but can hear clicks when used in Captivate

    Hi there,
I am having a problem with Captivate and wondered if anyone
could offer some advice. I have done some audio recordings and
import them into Captivate. However, when I listen to the files
from Captivate, the audio quality is much worse with audible clicks
that were not present in the original audio file.
I have tried importing WAV and MP3 files and changed the
settings to CD quality, but am still experiencing this problem. Can
anyone advise me how this problem can be eradicated?
    Thanks
    Mo

    Welcome to our community, Mo
Do the audible clicks sound somewhat like mouse clicks? I ask
because it's common for Captivate to make a clicking sound as it
moves from slide to slide. For example, if you create a new blank
project with perhaps three or four slides and simply preview it, do
you hear the same clicks? If so, there is a way to banish that.
Take a look at the following link:

  • Feature Request: Import Sidecars When Updating PSE 8 Catalog

I am working to get a usable Lightroom catalog when updating from PSE 8.  I have tens of thousands of raw files, several thousand video files in the catalog, almost all of which have an accompanying THM and/or XMP file in the same Windows folder as the photo or video file.  PSE, of course, doesn't deal with sidecars, but I would have expected Lightroom to check for the sidecar, just as it does with a regular import of those files.  Or at least allow you to ask it to discover sidecars from the library menu after the catalog has been updated.
I would re-import the files to get the metadata from the sidecars, but then I would lose all the tags, captions and other metadata I've built up in the PSE catalog.  Lightroom doesn't give the option to "Read Metadata from File" for video files, but when I use on my raw files, it does not attempt to discover any existing sidecar files.  The XMP sidecars would be especially helpful because they contain the PSE data (including date/time changes, keywords, etc.) for both raw and video files as written out by PSEDBtool from John Ellis.
If multiple sidecars are available for a file (e.g. both a THM and an XMP), I would hope that Lightroom would read both in date order, and apply the metadata in that order.  That is, if the THM is older, read and use that metadata, and then read the XMP, updating any data supplied in that file, so that we get the benefit all all the data available.  In the cases above, there is a lot of camera data in the THM for the video files that is not in the AVI, MOV or XMP files, so I wouldn't want to lose that.

John - Thanks for your helpful responses.  A couple answers to your questions:
I do have XMP sidecars for my raw (and video) files, courtesy of psedbtool.  In addition, most of my raw (and video) files have a .THM file associated with them from the camera itself.  I have done very little with ACR in PSE 8, so I don't believe I have any XMP files from that source.
After converting my PSE 8 catalog to LR 3, I do not see any sidecar extensions in the LR 3 metadata pane, which is leading me to believe that LR 3 has ignored both the XMP and THM sidecars (I would have expected to see both listed).  If I instead import the raw files directly, rather than through the PSE 8 catalog upgrade, then I see both XMP and THM sidecars listed in the EXIF metadata pane.  For raw files, I can't be sure that the sidecars are not being read, because the camera data in them is duplicated in the raw file, and other data such as keywords may be coming straight from the PSE catalog.
By analogy, when I import video files with sidecars directly into LR, the sidecar metadata (both THM and XMP) is definitely imported to LR from the sidecars because that data does not exist in the video file, but it shows up in the LR metadata panel.   If I instead upgrade the PSE catalog containing the videos, only the bare-bones file data comes in with the video files - none of the EXIF data from the sidecars comes in.  LR doesn't even set a valid capture time for sorting in the grid view.
So I am drawing a conclusion that the PSE sidecar raw behavior is the same as the video behavior in this case.  John - are you seeing sidecar extensions in the metadata panel in LR from imported raw files?
    Thanks!
    Jon
