Important notice to PPBM Benchmark users with CS5!!!

If you have used the PPBM4 Benchmark with CS4 and now want to see the performance gain in CS5, with or without CUDA/MPE, there is one very important thing to be aware of.
When you import the Benchmark project into CS5, the name will automatically be changed to Benchmark_1 in order to keep your CS4 project intact.
If you haven't used the benchmark project under CS4, this will not apply to you.
Now there are two approaches to make sure you will not run into trouble with the script later on.
1. Save the project under its original Benchmark name, without the _1, overwriting the CS4 version, or
2. When creating the AME queue, make sure that the filenames used to store the encoding results are benchmark.m2v and benchmark.avi and do NOT contain the _1 designation. Also check that the next 10 files are consecutively named as _1, _2, etc, but not as _1_1 or _1_2.
Approach 1 is by far the simplest method.
Hope this avoids or resolves problem you may encounter when running the script.
Excuses for not mentioning this before, but I had completely forgotten about this adjustment in the past months. Thanks to Ernst for bringing this to my attention.

Well ... I hope you do know that no apps can download to an iOS user unless it comes from the Apple App Store. I've tried it several times with others who has said it supposedly works ... and it never does when I try it out. So, someone is not telling you the whole story about what is happening here.
In fact, I tried to reach that page you gave by typing in the address, but it redirected to the main page, which was blank. The only thing listed was a privacy document that just contained text.
I then did a search on Google for phrases related to what you were saying and then I did manage to hit that site you gave, in which I was redirected from another site. AND, it did say that there was an app to download (although the page was all Chinese and I couldn't read it). It was simply a dialog box that popped up that said to download it. I went ahead and clicked to download it, because as I said, it has NEVER ever worked before (because of the way Apple has it set up). And sure enough, it failed to download and nothing hapened.
Again, I think someone is giving you false information and when you actually check it out yourself, you find out it's false.

Import problem DVCPRO 25 with CS5.5

I have a problem with importing a 60 min DVCPRO 25 file from P2 into CS5.5. I worked with the file in CS4 project before and it worked fine (the file had been split into two parts while recording with a HVX200, but it is handled as one file in NLE) Now I wanted to import the file into a new project with CS5.5 but the import process gets stuck and Premiere hangs. Any idea or similar experiences with this?

In source system, 45 users are there with ABAP datasource and ABAP roles... Now how can i import those users with ABAP roles into target System ( Standalone EP)
Any Usermapping is required to configure.
Please suggest me to workaround on this.

You have to do this manually. In theory you can make a specially formatted text file to create the users and assign their portal groups, but it is quicker to just add them using the useradmin tool. If you export a user from the Java useradmin tool you can see the format of the text file. I ahve written an ABAP in the past to do the text file creation, but I can't find it now

Importing a DVD with CS5

I am trying to figure out how to import a unprotected DVD into a project with CS5 premiere
When I use File >Import and browse to my DVD disk I see the usual VOB's in the video folder.
Is there indeed a "direct" way to easily import a DVD into premiere.

Media Browser sees the .vob files so it's just a matter of dragging and dropping them into the timeline or the project bin.
By the way, the same technique applies to Blu-ray discs.
That means the source of the files are on the DVD. Not a great source location for editing from compared to a fast HDD

Windows XP User problem with CS5

Following a recent security scare, I stopped running XP as a User with Administrator rights and changed to being a Power User. Shortly after, CS5 started to behave very oddly. My arrow and delete keys ceased to function and I could not have any more than one floating box open at any one time. Running as an Administrator, however, works fine. I deleted all preferences and even reinstalled CS5, but to no avail. It's a real pain having to switch users just for InDesign, especially as I need to have other programs, including the web, open at the same time, but don't want to run the security risks of a Trojan. Should I create a new user and start over? I can't understand why CS5 should differentiate betwen users - it seems bizarre to me.

Thanks for the info, chaps, but I have got absolutely nowhere despite spending hours on the issue. I have trashed the preference files time and again, but to no avail. I have even tried deleteing all the relevant InDesign Application data folders in Document&Settings>Application Data and Local Settings. Still no good. I have amended the registry in regedit to allow full access to me as a Power User. I have run CACLS commands to give me access rights for the InDesign Presets. Still, no good! InDesign opens OK, but there are no tools showing and when I open a floating dialogue box, for example Type>Character it shows Align...and my arrow keys still don't work.

If the media that you are attempting to sync plays in iTunes, try removing the preference to sync music as this remove the media from the device. Once this is done, try syncing the media again.

You're not going to be able to force creation of an object with any specific guid. That's not relevant to what you're trying to do any way. You also won't be able to clone the SID, since a, it's not supported, and b, the sid contains the
unique domain identifier which will be different for each domain even though the names are the same.
You could use sidhistory to help fix the permissions (add the sid from the account in test to the sidhistory of the account in production). But you'd need a trust relationship between the domains, and I'm not sure if that is supported when the domains
have the same name. You might need to add a different UPN suffix and set accounts to migrate to have that suffix to get around that. I've never actually looked into that situation.
ADMT won't do it though. You might have a command prompt utility that can do it in ADMT. But you should be able to do it with powershell by calling an api. You can probably use Ashley McGlone's sidhistory module for most of this.

Okay looking closer, you'll need to do this from C++. The easiest way is probably to use the sidcloner binaries (https://code.msdn.microsoft.com/windowsdesktop/SIDCloner-add-sIDHistory-831ae24b#content
) and call them on demand.
Honestly the best thing is probably get a consultant to come spend a few hours to do it for you. Messing with sidhistory can be a huge time sink.

2560 x 1600 & import lockups in LR 3.x with 30" monitor

Ever since I upgraded to a Nec 3090, 30" monitor, I have problems with importing in LR 3.3 3.2 etc. This problem does not occur on LR 2.x or 1.x.
If I am running the monitor at 2560 x 1600, and I hit import. LR will freeze totally. I can't recover the system without a total power off. If I drop the res to 1900 x 1200 on the same monitor it works fine. The freeze is where LR3.3 would open the GUI drop down where on the older versions of LR you just get a windows dialog box.
I have noticed that if I minimize the LR window to less than 1/2 of the screen on import then it works at 2560 x 1600. However this is a pain.
Usually after I have finished importing, I can take the window back to full screen.
System is XP 32 bit, 8 Gb of ram. Video Nvidia GEforce 450.

Developed a DBase application for a vertical market using MS Access. Worked on it for over a decade.
Have been in contact with a rather large company and we are talking about licensing my program with them.
BUT; they want it "On the Cloud"
Here is what needs to be accomplished. Ideally a user can log in from anywhere, (similar to on-line banking), enter data and print reports.
Read this a few days ago:
"If I were in your situation and felt that there's a growth market for your offerings, I would personally go with a PHP/MySQL-based model. The printing issue can be readily resolved with PDF-based output.
So the Querys, Forms and VBA Code needs to be brought in from MS Access to Dreamweaver.
Can this be done? Or is there a better way that I haven't learned yet?
Would someone be so kind and point me in the correct direction.

No, not any way that I know of. You would need to completely rewrite this as a web application. Obviously the MS Access tables can be migrated to MySQL and the Access queries converted to views. But the forms and custom code needs to be written from scratch in html and your choice of server side programming language.

9i export file into 11GR2 - import full db or create users, roles.. first?

I'm moving several 9iR2 databases onto new hardware with 11GR2 64bit.
One of them has only a couple of users, roles etc. so I pre-create all the tablespaces, users, etc. then import with 11G imp utility using fromuser=user1,user2 etc. in the parfile.
Another has an application front end that creates a database user for all the application users, and assigns certain roles etc. So I have dozens of users on this database, along with various roles as well. I'm wondering what the best way to approach this one is, so I'm thinking:
Do I do a import full=y, and let the import create all the users roles etc. ? *I already pre-created all the tablespaces when I created the empty database with DBCA
Do I generate the ddl for all the users and roles, run it on the new db first, then import with fromuser=user1,user2..?
Do I import full=y for trial run, then when ready to import final production data, drop users that have data with cascade option, recreate these users and import their schemas only?
Keep in mind that I am doing several "rehearsals" on this, importing from full exp files on the current production database, for users to test the app against and also to debug my import commands,scripts etc. so this will be a one command process when I am ready to do the final import.
I'm asking all of this because I'm wondering if its just ok to do full=y when upgrading, (I usually don't)
I'm assuming all the system etc. tables in the 11G are just left alone when ignore=y parameter is used.

I tried importing the full database from the 11G gui's import from export files option, but it kept failing, so I imported just the schema's I wanted. That worked ok, and all the database users accounts and roles were also imported, not sure how that happened or if it was when I attempted the full import. In any case I got the database schemas I wanted over, but noticed a lot of invalid views that would not compile, so a further check showed that none of the applications public synonyms came over. Running a simple create script on dba_synonyms on the prod database fixed that and its all good now, but I'm wondering why the synonyms never came across with the import?

CS5.5 documents not compatible with CS5 documents?

I have read through the other threads and found that documents created in CS5.5 are not backward compatible with CS5. Unless, of course, you export them manually from 5.5.
So ... Really?! Are you kidding me that that a version 5.5 cannot talk to a version 5.x of something? We bought a site license for the CS5 Master Collection but without the maintenance because we were led to believe that CS6 was a couple years off. So when 5.5 came along it implied that there were some changes but not significant enough to warrant the CS6 title.
Okay, now that I have vented I will ask my real question. Is it expected that with every release of the Master Collection that it means a major change to the product(s) underneath it such that they will not be directly backward compatible? If this is the case I would recommend that this is better explained when you are offering up the maintenace. Had I known this I would have purchased it as well instead of being stuck with having to purchase the entire site license again.

I'm guessing from the rest of your username that you're not a professional user of page layout applications, but a sysadmin of some sort. So of course you'd be surprised to discover this:

That's the case pretty much across the board for page layout applications. Note that it's not the Master Collection - many of the apps included do have pretty functional cross-version compatibility. Illustrator, in particular, I've found to be pleasingly verbose about possible feature loss when saving back, offering to convert type to outlines when differences between type rendering engines in versions were likely to cause incorrect text display, and so on.
But backwards compatibility is not a feature of page layout applications in general. It was the case for Pagemaker, it was and is the case for Quark, and it's been that way for InDesign all along. The same is the case with more obscure layout apps. The only exception I can think of is Publisher - and Publisher projects often crash and burn because there's one person who insists on sticking with Office XP or whatever, and when you use new features of Publisher in a file and then open it in an older version, it does not degrade well. I don't think that it even told you that it wasn't going to bother to try to display some of the content that came from a newer version. I even have a vague recollection of a Quark Passport issue where there was a failure of compatibility between 5.0.1 and 5.0.2, or something along those lines - just a bugfix dot release broke compatbility with the previous release.
I'd argue that, if you need to support designers or other graphics-layout types, that software maintenance for layout applications is more important that buying software maintenance for your operating system & other software infrastructure. Heck, it's arguably equally as important as offsite backups.

Problems importing iPhone 4 video into After Effects CS5 - Audio sync out

Hi there,
I am currently experiencing problems trying to import iPhone 4 video into After Effects CS5.
Firstly i'd like to note that the video plays perfectly fine on the iPhone, VLC and in Quicktime Player. The audio and video is in sync.
When I add the footage to After Effects the video becomes slightly out of sync with the audio. I have noticed this in RAM preview and also in renders I did just to test.
I also want to note that, both my iPhone and After Effects have latest software updates.

I thought that changing the frame rate in the composition settings would have worked.
Instead what I should have done is to go the the footage in the Project Panel then right-click on the footage > Interpret Footage > Main... then Conform to frame rate: Frame rate: 23.986607 (or whatever more accurate frame rate your footage actually is)
I used the more accurate frame rate reading from VLC which went to 5 decimal places. I got that info from the top menu in Tools > Codec Information
Its a shame AE doesn't pick up on the more accurate fps. It seems that all the videos from my iPhone 4 have slightly different frame rates and I guess I will have to interpret each clip properly.
I hear that the frame rate on the iPhone 4 is different depending on the lighting? I wonder why that would be the case?

How to sync apps to other iPhone, logged into Mac as another user, with same Apple ID for Store.

I'll try to be brief.
Synced my (old) iPhone 4 to my iTunes library, as normal.
Restored contents of iTunes library to my new iPhone 5. Everything worked fine here.
Performed full factory reset of iPhone 4 before allocating for my wife's use.
Created a new user account on my iMac for my wife (to keep things separate).
Created a new Apple ID specifically for my wife, so her iMessages, Contacts, Calendar etc. are all separate from mine.
Moved iTunes library to area that is common to both users (Can't remember exactly, it's something under /users/Shared, I think. I followed a post in these forums.)
Pointed my iTunes library to this location (logged in as me). My iTunes library works fine.
Pointed my wife's iTunes library to this location (logged in as my wife).
Set my wife's iTunes to use the same Apple ID as I use in the iTunes Store. Again, I followed a forum posting. The reason that I did this was to allow me sync purchased content to both iPhones.
Manually imported music folders from under /users/Shared into my wife's iTunes library. (This music syncs successfully with my wife's/my old iPhone 4.)
However, the problem is that all the Apps that I 'purchased' (inc. free apps) and downloaded from the iTunes Store to my iTunes library previously do not appear in my wife's iTunes library (Apps tab) and do not sync to her iPhone 4.When I go to the iTunes Store, apps that I have previously purchased with my Apple ID appear with a 'Download' button underneath, as opposed to 'Purchase' or 'Install'—this confirms that by using my Apple ID, my wife's iTunes library knows what purchases I've made. This is as you would expect.
Can anyone explain why the apps do not appear in my wife's iTunes' App tab?
Anyone got a solution?
I thought I was going about things the right way by setting her up as a separate user on my iMac, creating her own Apple ID for everything except iTunes Store purchases, and using my Apple ID for connecting to the iTunes Store.
Apologies that I don't have the links to the relevant forum postings that I used as my guides.

I have read wjosten's post on this thread but I don't think that is exactly the scenario I'm describing, nor is it what I'd like to have to do (sign my wife out, sign me in transfer/update apps, sign me out, sign me in).
That's the whole reason that I've configured her iTunes library to use my Apple ID. It should, I would have hoped, allow the apps bought on my Apple ID (that we both use in our respective iTunes libraries) to seamlessly, automatically appear in her iTunes library, and update when appropriate, for that matter.

How to use CMS Users with SAP BOPC NW 7.5

I have problems importing and using CMS Users with BO PC 7.5 NW.
I am trying two types of CMS-users
1. CMS Enterprise Users created in CMS and using "Enterprise" authentication
2. SAP BW Users imported into CMS using their SAP authentication "secSAPR3")
but both don't work:
In the BOPC Admin Client, I can succesfully select Security->Users->"Add new Users". Both CMS "Enterprise Users" and CMS Users that use SAP authentication are displayed in the "Everyone" Group.
The CMS Enterprise Users are displayed as <username>, e.g. "Miller".
The CMS users with sap authentication are displayed as <SAPSystem><Client>/<SAPusername>, e.g. "KBE100/Smith".
Now If I try to import a user...
1. CMS Enterprise Users
If can successfully import CMS Enterprise Users and add them to the ADMIN Team, e.g. "Miller".
The problem is they can't be used to log in to the Admin Client and Excel Client:
E.g. I enterUser-ID "Miller" and his CMS-Enterprise-password under password after starting Excel Client, an error message shows up: "The UserID, Password or Domain cannot be authenticated. Go back and make sure you entered valid credentials" ... (same error message as if the user wouldn't exist/wrong pw.).
Seems the user wasn't added as BO PC user. Or do I need to use any prefix before the "user ID" for CMS Enterprise users in the User_ID field instead of just "Miller"?!
2. CMS Users which use SAP-authentication (users imported into CMS from BW and use SAP-authentication)
In the BO PC Admin Client, I can't import them: I go through "1. User Setup" select "KBE~100/Smith", "2. User Detail", "3. Assignments", but if I am in "4. Finish" and click on "Apply", the following error shows up:
"Failed to create directory \root\Webfolders\<AppSetName>\<Appname>" for "KBE~100/Smith".
My guess is that the operating system doesn't like the "/" in the Username - but I guess this can't be changed bc. these Users from CMS and are already displayed with the "/" between SAPSystemID~ClientNummer and username in the User-list in BOPC Admin Client!
side remark: if I create a SAP CMS Enterprise user which contains a "/" in the username (on pupose ), I am getting the same error message.
Any help, explanations and workarounds are greatly appreciated - Any solution will be awarded with maximum points!

Hi Florian,
The problem seems indeed the file system on the bw not being able to handle "/". The automatic user import from the bw role into the CMC does not give you an option to replace the "/" character with anything else.
This should solve it:
- Go to the CMC double click the user. Delete the server part "KBE100/" and click save. Make sure the default system is set to "KBE100". The user should now be able to login from BPC with the user Smith.
