Important. Query on Clustered environment

          1. In 6.1, does clustering work only with IP Multicasting or do IP Sockets also
come into picture. the documentatin of clusters in 6.1 mentions that it uses only
IP Multicasting whereas the documentation of 5.1 suggests that WLS uses both.
          2. When would IP Sockets be used typically?
          Thanks,
          Prashant gupta

In both 51 and 61, IP Multicast is used for sending cluster-wide heartbeats,
cluster-wide JNDI updates and info about a Server is joining/leaving the cluster.
Session replication information is sent via peer to peer IP socket connections
between the primary and the secondary servers in the cluster.
          hope this helps,
          Mihir

  • Anyone know how Delta Links are stored in a Clustered environment?

We have a situation where we have a clustered EP6 production environment with 4 servers in the load balancer.
However, we've found that on just one of the servers the Delta Link between one of our roles and its only workset is missing.
Wanted to know if anyone could explain how these delta links are stored and/or what happens during transport import in a clustered environment (e.g. are components deployed only to the central database or deployed to each server in the cluster)?
Thanks for any help/advice on this you can provide.

    Hi Steve,
The delta links are stored in the PCD which is common for all nodes in the cluster (there is only one database).
When importing portal content to a cluster it is stored in two locations: one in on the central instance and the other one is locally on the specific node to which it was imported.
All other nodes are informed that there is a new content but will only upload it locally on demand (only when a user is calling this content).
Please award points if you find this answer helpful.

    Amit.

  • How to keep track of EJBs in case of failover under clustered environment?

Does anybody know what happens with a stateless session EJB in
weblogic 5.1 under clustered environment, in case of a failover (if
one of computers dies), the one, which keeps that ejb in a pool?
Does that EJB automatically go to the state "does not exist"?
Is method ejbRemove() then called on that EJB?
Or is it still in the "method-ready pool" state? Without ejbCreate()
method being called on this EJB?
Or does it disappear completely without those methods being called on
    this EJB?
I need to organize some kind of tracking for those EJBs, and it is
critically important for me to understand what exactly methods are
    called on those EJBs.
I saw this, but it does not answer my question:
    Clustered EJB
All EJBs are clusterable. If an EJB is deployed on multiple servers in
the cluster, each of these servers will be able to host instances of
the bean. This does not necessarily mean, however, that the bean
    instances are clustered.
    EJB Homes
All bean homes are clusterable. When a bean is deployed on a server,
its home is bound into the cluster-wide naming service. Because homes
are clusterable, each server can bind an instance of the home under
the same name. When a client looks up this home, it gets a
replica-aware stub that has a reference to the home on each server
that deployed the bean. When create() or find() is called, the
replica-aware stub routes the call to one of the replicas. The home
replica that receives the finds or creates an instance of the bean on
    its server.
    Stateless EJBs
When a home creates a stateless bean, it returns a replica-aware stub
that can route to any server on which the bean is deployed. Because a
stateless bean holds no state on behalf of the client, the stub is
free to route any call to any server that hosts the bean. Also,
because the bean is clustered, the stub can automatically fail over in
the event of a failure. The stub does not automatically treat the bean
as idempotent, so it will not recover automatically from all failures.
If the bean has been written with idempotent methods, this can be
noted in the deployment descriptor and automatic fail-over will be
    enabled in all cases.
    Thanks

    Check out Java's support for udo/redo: [http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/javax/swing/undo/package-summary.html]
    Also, google the "Memento Pattern".
You don't have to make copies of objects, just maintain commands the can undo and redo your program's state.

  • Configuring TLS support in a clustered environment

    Hi folks !
I couldn't find a definitive guide to TLS support in a clustered environment... So I'll give it a shout :)
Has anyone managed to configure TLS support in his/her cluster ?
My setup is as follows :
    - we have two Ironports, clustered, who are addressed using a common name through a hardware loadbalancer (mxfarm)
    - Each ironport is seen as a unique host when sending outbound emails (ironport-1 and ironport-2)
    - I have installed a certificate in MACHINE mode on each of them (i.e. one certificate for ironport-1, another for ironport-2)
Now, when I want to enable TLS (in cluster mode), I get the message that a security/key certificate hasn't been installed....
Sooooooooo how should I do it ??
    Thanks !!
    Frédéric Lens

    Hello,
We have four machines in a cluster, using TLS as default for inbound and outbound traffic.
Since we do not use load balancers we have individual certs for each machine. Besides that we have (company signed) certificates for each machine. These are used for systems management (HTTPS). (By the way... the certificate management is a terrible job if you have to maintain four machines with two certs each (and thus two certification paths). Hey Ironport: some major enhancements are possible on this field.....)
Since we use individual certs we have to install them in machine mode. The TLS policies are cluster based and this is configured and functioning without any problems.
I have a few attention points:
The certs that are installed before a machines has joined the cluster are removed on the moment you add this machine to the cluster. This in normally not done very frequently so I think this will not be the problem in this case, but it’s good to know that after joining the cluster you have the initial demo certs active again.
Even if you buy certificates from commercial vendors you must be sure you install the complete certification path. We have Verisign certs and had to install the intermediate certificate to get the chain complete.
You mention you have connected your MGA's to an incoming load balancer and send out mail via the individual hosts. I expect you to utilize three IP addresses for that (one incoming that is assigned to the load balancer and two others for the MGA's outgoing traffic). This means you must have three individual forward and reversed DNS entries. Since the CN of the cert must match the (public) DNS name of your system you should have individual certs for inbound and outbound traffic. The inbound cert (and intermediate certs) must be the same on both machines since these are is presented to the outside world as if they where one and should match the forward DNS name of the load balancer IP address. The outbound certs must be unique for each machine, matching the reversed DNS name of that machine.
I have two points that I'm not sure of, maybe someone else can clear this up:
The SMTP greeting normally contains the public systems hostname. I do not know if you can configure individual SMTP greetings for in and outbound mail and, if this is possible, if the inbound greeting can be the same on two clustered machines. Since you have two machines combined behind a loadbalancer I would expect the to present them selves to the public identically, for the outbound traffic is the individual machine IP address used, I would expect the system to identify it selves by the hostname that is in the PTR for the used IP address. Finally: I am not sure if this has any impact on TLS or not.
I always import the all intermediate certs for each cert I import. That means I install the two public intermediate certs twice and install the internal root and intermediate cert also twice. It might be sufficient to install both sets only once but I have never tested this. Who can tell if I am forcing myself into too much work or not?
I hope you solve your problem. My experience is that starting with certificates is most of the time a PITA (Pain In The Ass) but if you have figured out how to do it for a particular system it becomes quite simple.
    Best regards
    Steven

  • What is the role of  singleton property in clustered environment.

    Hi
Could anyone suggest links or tutorials explaining the singleton property and its importance in clustered environment(both active-active and active-passive).
    Please anyone explain this .
I've googled and couldn't understand the explanations which I've gone through.
    Appreciate your help.
    Regards,
    Dev...

    HI,
click on ur node and on the singleton proprty click F1. u will get the full detail.
The property "Singleton" specifies the number of instances that can exist in a dependent context node (that does not belong directly to the root node).
If the property "Singleton" is set, exactly one instance of the node exists. Its content changes when the lead selection of the parent node changes.
If the property "Singleton" is not set, one instance per parent instance exists. The content of the instances does not change when the lead selection of the parent changes.

  • WebLogic 10.3.4 Adminserver Performance Issues - Clustered Environment.

I am running WL 10.3.4 64 bit version on 64 bit hardware (blade serves) running Solaris 10 and I have the servers setup in a cluster. There are 3 machines are part of the cluster.
Managed Server1 is on Blade Server 1
Managed Server2 is on Blade Server 2
Managed Server3 is on Blade Server 3
We have about 20 different clusters setup and 60 servers across those 20 clusters.
The adminserver runs on a separate box (not a blade server). Tasks that do NOT involve the servers or deployments tabs are relatively fast however, when I go to the servers or deployments tab, and to some extent the clusters tab, the response is very slow.
For example, I am running WL 10.3.0 on less robust hardware. I installed the patch that Oracle published to resolve this particular issue. We have a similar number of clusters and servers on in that environment (3 severs to a cluster). The servers tab responds in 10 seconds.
In WL 10.3.4, the servers and deployments tabs take about 45 - 60 seconds to respond. This adds a LOT of overhead to doing any server or deployment related tasks.
I realize that the admin server has to query all the managed servers but performance in 10.3.4 is much worse than WL 10.3.0 with the performance patch.
Has anyone else run into similar performance issues with the WL 10.3.4 ADMIN Console running in a clustered environment? If so, does anyone have any suggestions to help improve performance.
I also run a WL 10.3.4 instance in a single server environment and the servers and deployments tabs respond withing 10 seconds (very fast). It is just in a clustered environment.
    Regards,
    Mark

hi Mark, it's a very interesting story, any follow-up? I would be curious to know the reason for the delay...

I face the same issue and I have given all permissions to the folder for OS user.
Because of this error my server is not starting up . Is there any way I can undeploy this composite to get my server running.
I cant do this from EM because SOA server is failing to start up.
I have tried removing it from $DOMAIN_HOME/deployed-composites but still when i try restarting the soa server the composite comes up there. Do we need to delete the entry some where else too. Kindly help.
    Thanks,
    Sri.

Question….can you use upgrade assistant in clustered environment?
    Thanks!

You can only use the upgrade assistant to upgrade to a single instance Oracle BI 11g server. Typically this is a sandbox server environment or a VM that can simply be wiped clean after the upgrade. Then move the RPD,WebCat, etc. and AppRoles that get created during the upgrade process to a development server. • Jms is not working properly in clustered environment

    Hi all,
i am using the application server oc4j 10.1.3.1.0 enterprise edition . my application is standalone application(thick client)
we are using the jndi.properties as follows ...
    java.naming.factory.initial=com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory
    java.naming.provider.url=opmn:ormi://172.16.1.38:6005:group/Security,opmn:ormi://172.16.1.38:6006:deceval_group/Security
    java.naming.security.principal=oc4juser
    java.naming.security.credentials=oc4juser
    oracle.j2ee.rmi.loadBalance=lookup
we have two application servers in cluster topology as u can see above we have used one instance from one application server and one from another.
i have seen that for every instance there one jms server. at runtime it is taking one application servers services
say opmn port 6005 but when the application is connecting to the another application server say opmn 6006
here jms is not working properly when i send message
As we have clustered environment message must be propagated all the applications who use above jndi.properties.
if i keep use only one application server opmn say
    java.naming.provider.url=opmn:ormi://172.16.1.38:6005:group/Security
    then its is working excellently
please can u provide any solution ASAP
    thanks in advance
    Manu

  • Error when calling BPEL from ESB in clustered environment

    Hi
We have recently installed SOA Suite in a clustered environment and have a serious issue.
I am not able to call BPEL processes from my ESB services via WSIF (by using the 'browse target operation' in JDeveloper). The exception i get at runtime is this.
    "javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: ejb/collaxa/system/DeliveryBean not found"
When I instead call the BPEL process via SOAP (by using a SOAP invocation service i JDeveloper) it works fine.
Everything works fine in development environment which not are clustered.
Has anyone any excperience from using ESB in a clustered environment?
    Regards
    Kalle Viklund

    Hi
ESB and BPEL resides in the same oc4j-instance. Though, esb-rt and orabpel are different applications in that oc4j-instance. And the lookup 'ejb/collaxa/system/DeliveryBean' only exists in the orabpel application.
In the ESB Console I already have the same setting for the 'BPELSystem' as for the 'Defaultsystem'.
    Cluster name: esb_prod
    Virtual host: prod1.sth.nu
    Port: 80
    Topic location: ESBTopics/Topics/ESB_JAVA_DEFERRED
    Connection factory location: OracleOJMS/XATCF
    regards

  • Problem with uploading a file in Clustered Environment

    Hi,
I have a problem with uploading a file in a clustered environment. I have an iview component which facilitates an upload action of an xml config file. The problem is that the upload of the modified XML file is reflected only in the central instance of the cluster and not in the dialog instances. The dialog instances hold the old config file.
Is there any solution to upload the file to all the nodes in the cluster.
    Thanks
    Kiran

    Hi,
This is a known problem with clustered environment. Remember that your portal component runs on just on dialog instance and it doesn't automatically have access to the other nodes.  However, there are some ways to get around this
    1. Use KM to store files. KM is a common repository for all application servers and therefore you needn't worry more
    2. Use an external batch oriented product (suresync/robocopy) to synch folders on the different DIs. You basically use your existing portal component, but there is a batch job which makes sure the upload folder is identical on all DIs (however, there is a slight delay depending on how often you run the batch job)
    3. Store the files on a shared disk directly from the portal component.
    Cheers

  • Issue while polling in clustered environment.

    Hi All,
I am using a polling adapter which polls records from two database tables. I have set Database rows per transaction as 10 and polling interval as 30 secs. Our servers are running in clustered mode.
The issue is that, when the rows are picked by node 1 , without waiting for the polling interval node 2 picks up the next set of rows from database.
As per our requirement, rows should be polled according to the value of Database rows per transaction size. Then adapter should wait for the polling interval and then pick up the next set of rows (in the clustered environment only). Can it be achieved using custom SQL or some java code. If anyone has tried it please help me.
    Thanks in advance.

See this is misconception that both nodes picks the data in turn one by one.
It totally depends on the availability of the nodes. This is how a typical active active cluster should behave.
Both nodes will show similar set of instances as they are pointing to same soa_infra schema.
We can not differentiate by checking EM that which node actually processed a particular instances.
I would like to know how are you sure that both nodes are picking file one by one without waiting other one to complete its job.
I have experience with Active active cluster with uses of DB Adapter in many scenarios. But I never observed this behavior.
Probably by understanding your applications architecture, answer to your problem can be found.
    Thanks,
    Ashu

  • File Protocol in OSB Clustered Environment

    Hi ,
I have a OSB Server in a Clustered Environment ....
Here Admin Server is in Machine1
Managed Server1 is in Machine 2
Managed Server2 is in Machine 3
so both the Managed Servers are put in a Cluster
I have Access to Machine1 Unix Box where the Admin Server is Installed ...I can get the File only in this Location and have to Read the Same from here , So i was planning to Use File Protocol for Polling the Message from Admin Server .Since OSB has option for Selecting only the Managed Server , I would request suggestions how i can Read the Data from this Admin Server by using File Protocol .

have you used "service type" as "Messaging Service" ? that should give you all the options you need

  • File resources in clustered environment

I understand that resource on file system cannot be clustered.
We have an application packaged as an ear file but unfortunately we get the properties
files from the file system. We usually copy these resources while installing our
              application.
Now we are trying to deploy our application in a clustered environment and when
all my servers in the clcuster r on the same machine everything worked fine. Now
I created another server on a different machine.
The ear file file got transfered fine but the application is not able to find
the properties since the resource file are not copied over to that machine. I
know this is an expected behaviour but my question is: Is there anyway workaround
to avoid thsi problem. For example, can we tell weblogic to take care of copying
these resources along with the whole application
              (ear file).
              Praveen

I don't think that there is any standard way of doing this.
Even if you do convince WebLogic to do so, it will be a
              WebLogic-specific hack...
Don't suppose you can use a shared directory?
Or perhaps you can just use external-staging, and copy the EAR +
              resources yourself.

  • Not able to access the application through URL in clustered environment.

    Hi,
I recently depoyed my application on clustered environment of weblogic 8.1 SP4.
Now I am able to access the application through the managed server name with port number but not able to access through URL.
    For ex
    http://machine1:7001/test/login.do?m=begin
    this is accessible
    If I use
    http://test.domain.com/test/login.do?m=begin
    Then application is not accessible.
any HTML or JSP page page is in reach by both the URL.
Please suggest me what should I do in this regard.
    thanks
    singhV

    Hi Syed,
I meant to ask are you able to see the application you created in Hyperion Planning Login page,if yes try accessing the created application through Hyperion Planning(Try restarting Planning Services once even if you are able to launch hyperion planning page) url "http://servername:8300/HyperionPlanning and selecting the application you created.
And also could you please let me know if you are logging in to workspace through admin username ? and also check if you are able to see the application in shared services and try to provision any group on that application.
(The Assumptions are if application is not created successfully then it will not be available in workspace to launch and if its in maintainance mode (Application Maintenance Mode) in Application Settings and last would be check OHS and Hyperion Planning Services)
    Thanks
    Amith
