Importation crashes Iphoto 6.0.6 .How to quit ?

I have been using Ilife 6.0 for 3 years with OsX 10.3.9. At present around 6000 pictures (1600*1200pel).
I tried using the IPhoto library from an other disk booted with OsX 10.5.3, without importing pictures on the 10.5.3 disk.
On importation of pictures I got the turning wheel and was not able to stop importation, nor escaping, nor quitting Iphoto. I had to force quitting from finder.
I tried to go back to the 10.3.9 disk and got the same behavior.Tried too, to upgrade to Iphoto 6.0.6.
Ever the same result upon import.
Could someone give me a solution or at least an advice ?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Start with the troubleshooting basics:
1. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
2. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

  • Import from iPhoto - crash

    Hi,
I am completely new to Aperture so I don't know if I am missing something. I understand that Aperture is a tool targeted at the more experienced user, so I thought I could test drive it.
Install worked fine, starts, created demo library. Fine.
Then i tried to import my iPhoto lib. Its somewhere between 60-70 Gig - works fine in iPhone, and I would like to see how Aperture feels like with all my pics. I don't want to test drive a software with only a few pics.
So, all I get is a crash report. It is after importing a few hundrer pics. It is always the same.
    Am I missing something?
    Brgds,
    Papick

Checked "run in 32bit mode" and then the import seems to work. I guess it will take a few hours until it is ready...
I think 3.0.1 should be on its way better sooner than later...

  • Importing certain photos into iPhoto since QT upgrade crashes iPhoto

I have about 2,000 photos (jpg) that were all scanned in and now when I try importing them into iPhoto is crashes. It worked fine in QT 7.1.2 but with the 7.1.3 upgrade iPhoto now crashes. Apple is now aware of the problem (sent them an example photo and they can reproduce) The work-around suggested is open the photo in preview, do a file save as (jpg) then import into iPhoto. This works, BUT for 2,000 photos it is not really feasible. Not sure if anyone has an idea how to get around this. Thought of applescript, but preview is not scriptable.

I don't have a solution but can confirm that I an experiencing the same problem.
I am trying to import a bunch of jpeg files from a folder on my desktop. They are a mix of unedited files and some which have been edited in Photoshop Elements 3. As soon as iPhoto hits one of the edited files it crashes.
I have sent the crash log to Apple each time it happens and have send a bug report to them. I would suggest everyone who is experiencing this does the same in the hope that it may highlight the issue sooner rather than later.
Reverting back to previous versions of software is a retrograde step - Apple's software should "just work" - this is why I switched.

  • How do i import an iPhoto library from a time machine backup?

how do i import an iPhoto library from a time machine backup? I did a back up and i formatted my machine. How do i get iphoto to be the same?

This screenshot shows how to restore a library from Time Machine.
There is NO importing necessary.  One should never import one library into another.  Just restore it to your Pictures folder and launch iPhoto.

  • Can some please provide instructions on how to import an iPhoto library from an old Mac to a new Mac without getting a bunch of duplicates?  I tried transferring my pictures using an external hard drive and then copying it to the Pictures folder on my Mac

Can someone please provide instructions on how to import an iPhoto library from an old Mac to a new Mac without getting a bunch of duplicates?  I tried transferring my pictures using an external hard drive and then copying it to the Pictures folder on my new Mac.  I ended up getting a bunch of duplicates. My old Mac has an older version of iPhoto while the new Mac has iPhoto '11.  Is that the cause of the problem?  Please advise.  Thanks.

Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • How do I import an iPhoto Library  (V.7.1.5) created on my old MacBook (10. 6.8) into my new Macbook pro (10.9.1) running iPhoto 9.5.1? I tried copying onto memory stick and moving to new mac, but new iPhoto doesn't recognise the library.

How do I import an iPhoto Library  (V.7.1.5) created on my old MacBook (10. 6.8) into my new Macbook pro (10.9.1) running iPhoto 9.5.1? I tried copying onto memory stick and moving to new mac, but new iPhoto doesn't recognise the library.

So what exactly did you copy over? If it's a 12 gig iPhoto Library then it sounds like the files are there. Perhaps the copy went wrong along the way.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • I have a large number of photos imported into iPhoto with the dates wrong.  How can I adjust multiple photos (with varying dates) to the same, correct, date?

I have a large number of photos imported into iPhoto with the dates wrong.  How can I adjust multiple photos (with varying dates) to the same, correct, date?

If I understand you correctly, when you enter a date in the Adjust Date and Time window, the picture does not update with the date you enter.  If that is the case then something is wrong with iPhoto or your perhaps your library.
How large a date change are you putting in?  iPhoto currently has an issue with date changes beyond about 60 years at a time.  If the difference between the current date on the image and the date you are entering is beyond that range that may explain why this is not working.
If that is not the case:
Remove the following to the trash and restart the computer and try again:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.iphoto
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iPhoto (There may be more than one. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: to get to the "home > library" hold down option on the keyboard and click on "Go" > "Library" while in the Finder.
    Let me know the results.

  • How do I eject iPhone after import to iPhoto?

You don't need to eject the iPhone after importing, if it has vanished from iPhotos's source list in the sidebar. Then it has been dismounted.

  • How do I import an Iphoto Project (book) directly into Aperture 2?

I have a book that I did as a project in iPhoto '08 that I would like to import directly into Aperture 2 and "redo" the book using Aperture's new features.
Although I imported my iPhoto library I don't seem to have this project in Aperture and when I look to export the project from iPhoto it wants to export it as a movie.
Since the photos from iPhoto are in Aperture I figured that importing the iPhoto project would be easy. I don't want to recreate the book again if I can help it - I just want to import and modify it in Aperture.
Is it possible to do and can anyone tell me how to do this?
    Thanks,

You CAN completely customize the text in iPhoto books, including left/center/right justifications, and it is fairly easy. Here's the workaround:
    1) In your iPhoto book (or calendar or whatever) layout, highlight the text you want to modify or change its alignment.
    2) Launch TextEdit and open a blank document. Paste the text from iPhoto into the document.
    3) Still in TextEdit, highlight your text. Using ordinary word processing methods, modify or realign your text as desired. When satisfied, highlight the customized text and copy it.
    4) Back in iPhoto, paste the newly modified text you just copied from TextEdit into the desired text box, overwriting (or deleting first) the original text. All the modifications you made in TextEdit should apply.
This trick can work wonders for helping make an iPhoto book completely your design.

  • How can I import into iPhoto, from my iPad, albums created on the iPad using Photos App ?

I take about 300 photos a day using my iPad, as i'm filming to help keep continuity.
I then create albums under the scene number from some of the photos taken. Eventually i will build up all of the scene numbers in the script.
I want to import into iPhoto all of these albums.
    How can this be done?
For some reason, when i plug my iPad into the laptop, it won't import screen grabs or all of the photos.
So the fact i have tried to be super organised, the apple software is now letting me down !
Can albums created in the iPad now be imported into iPhoto as albums to keep my organisation ?
    Thanks.

That is not a feature of iPhoto - suggest to Apple - iPhoto Menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback.
With the new Photo app later this year the integration between IOS and the Mac will be much greater

What format are they? Tiif? Jpeg? You can compress them with a lot of apps - including Preivew and just about any graphics editor out there. I'm not sure that 45mb would crash iPhoto thogh, are yo sure that's the cause? I know that some folks have mentioned pixel dimensions causing issues, as can color profiles.

  • How do I keep originals while deleting duplicates recently importing into iPhoto 11?

Installed iPhoto11. All previous photos were missing. Imported from previous system iPhoto9. Resulted in inordinate duplicates. How can I keep the previously organized originals and delete the duplicates that ended up with over 55000 photos? Please help. Thank you

You do NOT import an iPHoto library into another iPhoto library - you move it over and open it - If it is on a previous system Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward. Or if it is on an extrnal drive just drag it to the pictures folder and launch iPhoto

How do i show date and time info of videos in Iphone as they appeare before import in iPhoto? or even as they appear on the iPhone itself? The selection on tool bar for show info is greyed out.

Welcome T G Brown to the  iMovie boards..
the socalled timestamp is within the imports.. if you select a clip in iM and hit the key combo Apple-I, you can see recording time and date.
unfortunately, this info isn't delivered to any software. Bruce Gee (geethree.com, excellent plug-in maker) told us, there's no 'API' he could use for such a feature...
same on the pro side, read this discussion at the FinalCutExpress boards:

Forum member Ian offers a solution with a 3rd party app ....
so: pen&pencil and typing timestamp manually into any 'Title' seems to be your only option...
