Imported and created "optimized media" but thumbnails and video is missing!!

Hi guys,
My i7 MacBook Pro just spent the last 12 hours importing a selection of h.264 .mov's from my Canon DSLR. I had selected "creat optimized media" to convert it all into ProRes at the start like I have for my other projects in FCPX. But this time, once it had completed, only a couple of the clips have thumbnails/ play video when scrubbed over, and the vast majority of the clips have black thumbnails and only play audio. I tried restarting FCPX without any luck... any thoughts on what's going on? If I have to spend another 12 hours doing it over again, I'm going to have one unhappy client.
Between random bugs like this, freezes, crashes and the lack of ProRes LT (I'm bloating all my Canon video files by converting them into regular ProRes and hogging up hard drive space at an alarming rate), FCPX is really starting to get on my nerves. I've been really patient with the software and wanted to like it so much - I even gave it a positive review on the App Store, but Adobe Premiere is looking better and better every day.

Just out of curiosity- what happens when you click 'Create optimized media' off in preferences? Also- are the original clips still visible and working on your hard drive- i.e. the H.264 clips from the camera?

I need some guidance on my problems with Think Vantage. I am new to this forum and overwhelmed by the volume of information.
My problem. "Rescue and Recovery" AND "Create Recover Media" crash when I attempt to use them.
I have a Lenovo N100 0768A27 running XP. Everything is up-to-date. I have no other problems!
I have downloaded the System Tool Box but that does not want to work either.
I am running R&R version 3.01.1037.00 and I think Client Security 6.1.44.0 but is does not show in my application list only when I logon.
I must confess to turning RR off for a while as I was short of space.
I have tried updating RR to version 4.2 but cannot de-install original version.
I would appreciate some direction on who to step thru this problem and what info to use.

Greetings, I am working in Final Cut Pro 7. In the timeline some clips show as offline. I tried going to sequence and reconnecting to media but it does not work. I can still see the video in the timeline and work with it. It just has the red box.

If the clips are not actually missing, you could try to refresh the timeline by using cmd-0 and then going to the timeline options tab. Then select name only where it says "thumbnail display". Press ok to accept the change, then repeat the process to add thumbnails back to your timeline.

Create optimized media question

I have the following .mov clips to import into FCP X:
DV, 720 x 480 (640 x 480), Millions
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz. (from QT inspector)
Can I assume that I should NOT check "create optimized media"?
There are about 40 of these clips; and I would like to use as little disc space as necessary.
If correct, is that because this format is native to FCP X, and is therefore not necessary?

FCP X decides if there is any need to optimize, even if you check "optimize media" FCPX will not optimize if it is native. In my case I use XDCAM EX which is native and it does not matter if I check the option or not. On the timeline it will be XDCAM EX.

again image capture is not involved with deleting photos from iPhoto in any way ever
the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager is very good for finding duplicates as is Duplicate Annihilator
And I have no idea who told you this - or what it means - but re-read both of my opening statements

How did the photos get onto the iPad ? If they were synced from a computer then they aren't included in the backup - the restore would look for them in the directory that they were synced from.
And for the songs (and the contents of the Videos app and any iTunes downloads) they are also not included in the backup, the restore would look to copy them back from your computer's iTunes library. Do you have them in your iTunes library, or can you copy them into your library (File > Add To Library) so that you can sync them back ?

Dock application Fan appears but thumbnails and app names are blank

Something strange has happened on my Dock. I grouped all the iLife apps by creating a new folder and moving links to the iLife apps into it. It works fine.
Then I dragged this folder to the dock to make a fan of iLife apps. It simplifies my Dock. This worked fine for a while.
Recently, the fan has come up with blank thumbnails and blank app names. Mousing on the blank entries starts the app, just as before. But of course it now I don't know what i am launching. When I reboot, the fan shows all just as I wanted -- for a while. The it blanks out again.
what is going on? I want to fix this.

It appears to be a common problem. A restart will get it working again for awhile. See for instance this discussion:

If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact Apple ID Support, upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.
The operator will take you through some steps you may have already tried, however they need to be sure they have exhausted all usual approaches before trying to reset your account, so you should try to be helpful and show patience with the procedure.
The operator will need to verify they are speaking to the account holder and may ask you some questions that only the account holder could know, and you will need to answer them if the process is to proceed.
Once the operator has verified your identity they will send a message through to your device which contains an alpha numeric code, which you will need to read back to them.
Once this has been completed they will send an email to your iCloud email address after a period of 24 hours, so you should check that mail is enabled in your devices iCloud settings.
Upon receipt of the email, use the reset link provided to reset your password, after which you should be able to make the adjustments to iCloud that you wish to do.

Problem with the audio when creating optimized media...

I am having a problem with the quality of my audio after I transcode the clip to optimized media. It sounds fine originally, and I have listened to the clips when I first import them, and they sound fine, it's only after they're optimized that they sound bad. There is a clicking sound that is randomly distributed throughout the clip. I thought at first that maybe this would be fixed after I published the content, as the whole point of optimized media was to make it lesser quality to improve performance while editing, but even when published the clicks could be heard distinctly. I tried editing the content with out optimizing the mdeia, but the editing is too slow as I am working with high quality media.
Has anyone had this problem? Anyone have an idea on how to I might be able to fix this?

One way would be to make sure the Preferences window under the Import tab says not to use optimized media. Then go to the timeline and Control Click the clip. Choose Reveal in Event Browser. This will select the clip in the event browser. The originally specified in and out points will be represented in the yellow border on the clip. Then in the File menu choose the Import ... Files and specify the original media. The clip in the event browser will be filled in again from the new import, and the timeline clip will also be replaced with the new material. In and out points will be honored and effects will still be in place on the timeline clip.
Now, I use this procedure to reconnect clips all the time ... I have not used it before to switch formats from optimized to original media so there is a little guessing here on my part. The option, of course, is to simply reimport from a camera archive or the camera of the SD card into a new clip then replace everything ... Again, this would need to be done having turned off the preference item to use optimized media. Hope this helps a little. Best wishes.

I want to create a new email address/additional cloud account and move all my data to the new acccount. How can I do it?

Go to Settings>iCloud and turn all data that is syncing with iCloud (contacts, calendars, etc.) to Off. When prompted choose to keep the data on the iPhone. After everything is turned off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID and turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On. When prompted, choose Merge. This will upload the data to this new account.
This will not move your photo stream, however. If you have photos in photo stream that you haven't backed up anywhere else you will need to save these before deleting the account. If your computer is syncing with your iCloud account, your can photo stream photos directly to your computer. If not, open your photo stream album on your iPhone in the thumbnail view, tap Edit, tap all the photos to select them, tap the share arrow button, then tap Save to Camera Roll. Once in the camera roll you can import them to your computer.

How to play .wma and other Windows Media Player-format files/videos on Mac?

I will be asking stupid questions as I'm a newbie to Mac, so please bear with me. There are some video format that QuickTime player doesn't play e.g. .wma files. I tried a couple of times to download Windows Media Player for Mac but it doesn't install on my Mac! Do I require a software similar to Zipfile or does Mac has it all build in?
PS - What is the coequal of "delete" button here in Mac (keyboard)?

Download and install Flip4Mac - VersionTracker or MacUpdate - to play Windows Media files via Quicktime. Also get Perian to provide additional codecs for other video formats.
The Delete key is on the keyboard next to the "=" key.

I recent la format the drive and create a case sensitive jornal and put a password. How I undo it if I just see the whole drive as the recovery disk

I want to format my computer and I start to do that but I fondo a copy of the boot folder on the drive, not the recovery drive. I formated and make it case sensitive jornal with a password. Then I put a password in main too. So the drive the entre drive become my recovery drive.So I have two recovery drive I think.I learn almost all the diskutil comando and I don know how to fin it. The disks are not showing the one with the passwords.

Just wondering if you had any advice for my situation . . .
My time machine backup was backing up to a drive that was "Mac OS X Enteded Journaled, Case Sensitive." I had no idea what this meant, or that it would even cause issues.
I took my computer to the Apple store yesterday, and they wiped it clean. When they tried to restore it from the Time Machine backup drive, it would not work. Their guess is that Time Machine cannot restore from a drive that is "case sensitive."
Any thoughts on how I can convert my time machine backup data from a "case sensitive" state, to a "non-case sensitive" state? I've tried to just drag and drop the files from the case sensitive formatted drive to a new drive that I have that is formatted non case sensitive, but I get the following error message:
"The volume has the wrong case sensitivity for a backup"
I just really want my data back - I thought TimeMachine was the way to go (and was supposed to work) but unfortunately it is not.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Photos and created playlists are in lost and in limbo

I spent over 12 hours copying music from my personal library of favorite CD's and placed them in my Itunes library. It was perfect. But Now only the music I purchased is showing up in the Itunes library, and yet they are all there on my ipod touch. Conversely, I have 15 photos in my ipod photo library, yet they do not show up in the itunes photo library. Nothing is syncing, although its routinely syncing; nothing actually shows up. I would love to be able to upload my photos to my computer so that I can place them on my new G-1 phone. However, since my abandoned and isolated photos are the only ones I have, I'm afraid to hit the restore button. Why doesn't Itunes sync and/or recognize what is clearly in my touch libraries?

there are ways to get data from your ipod to your computer, but you will have to download (and probably purchase) third party software (google is your friend )
sounds like you may well have a lot of photos on your ipod, which would make my next suggestion highly laborious, BUT if you have a wifi connection, you could email them to yourself and access them in your email on your computer.
oh, and make backups! and backups of backups! (i nearly lost my stuff a month or so ago, it was a frightening prospect - i now have most of my photos uploaded and stored on websites, a copy of most of them on CDs, and two external hard drives with them on!)
