Imported CD's on new VISTA machine -- won't play

I just imported several CD's onto my new PC with Vista Home Premium. I'm using a newly installed copy of itunes 7.1.1. itunes recognized the CD's when they were inserted and appeared to import them just fine, but VERY quickly. The CD's appear in my library, complete with all tracks and album art. However, they will not play and every track shows a time of 789:57:13 -- really weird.
When I click on the first song in one of these recently imported CD's, the cursor very quickly moves from one song to the next until it reaches a song from the library I transferred my old XP-based PC. What's going on?

I don't have an answer for you either. Finally I've found someone that is having the same exact problem as I'm having.
There have been a few CD's that I have put into my iTunes library that I have been able to play. However 99% of them show a track time of 789.57 and will skip to the next disc with a normal track time. Please Please let me know if you find a solution to this problem because it's making me crazy
I recently purchaced a new computer and Vista was installed on my computed from Dell.

  • 1-new slim imac, 1-new vista machine, 1-new airport extreme

so I've been searching around the threads here and it seems like everyone's problems deal with like not seeing a wireless connection or not being able to print or not being able to file share and you would think that my situation was pretty common; if there is another thread about this please direct me and I apologize if I'm repeating a recent topic.
ok, so i'm setting up a small little network for my aunt, she has a brand new 20" imac slim, two vista machines and one xp laptop. i advised her of getting an airport extreme to share internet. the imac sees and connects to the airpot fine but with vista it does not. vista can clearly see the basestation but won't let me connect to it. i've used a simple WEP key to connect to the base station and basically used defaults for my setting, yes, i am using an "Equivalent Key" for the vista machines but vista just keeps telling me it is unable to connect due to an unknown error.
I've also tried to connect to the basestation with my little cousin's nintendo ds lites and it tells me that it "does not support this type of network security". i mean i just have WEP turned on, are there other settings on the basestation that i need to change? i'm new to the basestation i usually work with the airport express, the setting and stuff are different.
    any ideas?
any and every post is much appreciated.

i reset the basestation and and installed the airport utility on the vista machine and through the vista machine set up the basestation. i still can not connect to the basestation if any sort of encryption is turned on but if the basestation is open then the vista pc connects fine. since it looks like wireless encryption isn't an option; is there a way that i can just keep the connection open and just use a MAC filter?
if they had cable internet it wouldn't be a bandwidth problem, but my aunt and uncle live in a somewhat rural area and they have to have satellite internet which means their download cap is around 17GB per month. if their neighbor knows and steals their bandwidth they'll hit 17GB in no time.
the basestation has the latest firmware and both imac and vista machines have airport utility installed but i still don't understand why i can't turn on wireless security and still have the vista machine connect.
i've tried using every encryption type possible and nothing will let the vista machine jump online; even the airport utility (on the vista machine) won't see the basestation when i turn on any sort wireless security.
thanks cloth542000 for your reply, does anyone have any ideas on what i should do?

  • Trouble moving Develop Presets to new Vista machine

I have moved my library from an XP machine to a Vista machine, and am losing a lot of work. What I think is happening is that my images are "detached" from a Preset.
Many of my images have a Develop Preset applied upon import. So the first step in the edit list is Import/XXXX Preset.
I have moved the images and the catalog to the new machine. The preview image looks right, but as soon as I do something to trigger a refresh, the image turns red and loses its rotation. It seems that it is applying all of the steps, except the first one. I am guessing it cannot "find" the preset to reapply it.
I have moved the Presets to the corresponding folder, but b/c Vista renamed somethings, it is not the same path to get to the Preset.
    In WinXP:
    C:\Documents and settings\UserName\Application Data\Adobe\Lightroom\Develop Presets
    In Vista:
    C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Develop Presets
Maybe I will create a folder in Vista with the XP Path name to fake it out?
I can probably go back to my original machine and try some things, but it will be a lot of work. My edits were not saved to XMP, the edits are in teh LR database.
It's not a problem I expect can be solved here, but if anyone has idea, let me know.
    Rob.

I know... it is difficult, because there are a lot of variables.
New point (and probably key) -- The ones that I am having trouble with are RAW+JPG and I just realized that in the new installation, even thought both RAW and JPG files are present, the JPGs are being displayed. So the JPGs are getting all of the edit steps that the NEFs should be getting.
I just caught that now, not sure what I will do next.

  • Transferring Itunes from XP Home to new Vista machine

My son has his Itunes5 on a Gateway running WindowsXP Home.
The CD drive is a read only and will not write CD's or DVD's. I purchased a Belkin Transfer cable for XP to Vista transfers. Can I utilize this transfer cable to move his Itunes to the new Machine? If so how? Instead of write to a CD can I write to a file and transfer that file to the new machine. I also have a available a 2GB USB memory stick. Could I use that in place of CD Media.
Because we are running on an older processor it will not let him update to Itunes7. But in looking at some of the postings it looks like he needs Itunes7.1.1 to run it on Vista. Would we than transfer his music folder to the new machine and than update to current Itunes7 or download the new version and transfer his music folder. If you need any further clarifications please do not hesitate to ask.
    Thanks, Geo

The way I would do it, but not necessarily the most easy way, would be to copy the iTunes folder (probably C:\Documents and Settings\username\username's music) from the old computer, to the new computer's user's music dircetory over a network using windows file sharing. In Vista, the default directory would be C:\Users\username\Music\Music.
Then install iTunes on the Vista machine (I highly recommend using the absolute latest version of iTunes in Vista).
When launching iTunes, hold the shift key, then iTunes will prompt you for a location for iTunes library file. In the dialog that appears click 'Choose Library...' then browse to the '.itl' file in the folder you moved from the older computer.
It has worked from XP to XP, because the directory layout is the same, but with vista you may encounter some problems. You could try (in theory this should work), by creating a directory on the new machine identical to the old one.
    Good luck.

  • I bought songs on my old computer, but when I got a new laptop they won't play on iTunes

The songs that I bought on my phone have transfered into my library, but the songs purchased on my old computer won't play. They still come up, but the letters are grey instead of black and I can't even select them. What do I do? They were purchased under my account, so they should be showing up.

    Go figure!

  • New iTunes album won't play on iPod

I just bought a new album from iTunes (The Decemberists "Long Live the King" EP), and it won't play on my iPod.  It shows up there, and it plays in iTunes on my computer, but my iPod won't play any of the songs.  Help?

Fixed.  Deauthorized and reauthorized my computer, plus fiddled with where the files were stored.  Something worked.  Whew.

  • The New Mail sound won't play through SoundSticks

After many many years of using Eudora as my E-mail client, I have finally switched to Apple's Mail. So far, so good, EXCEPT for an inability to have Mail's "New Mail" sound play through my SoundStick USB speakers.
I should mention that I use a "dummy plug" plugged into the front headphone jack of my G5 so that I don't have to listen to the startup bong when I turn the computer on. This has never been a problem because I use SoundSticks for my audio and, since the G5 can't "see" the SoundSticks when you first turn the G5 on, no bong through the SoundSticks either. Once the computer is up and running, all audio comes out of the SoundSticks. This is true of all of the alert sounds my Mac makes too. Even the "Send Mail" sound (swooshing plane) plays through the SoundSticks as it should.
But the sound I have selected for "New Mail" (no matter which sound I select) just won't play through the SoundSticks. If I unplug the dummy plug from the headphone jack I can then hear the "New Mail" sound through the internal speaker. But I don't want to hear it that way (and I don't want to permanently remove the dummy plug either).
Why is it that Mail's "New Mail" sound is the ONLY bit of Audio that I've found that WON'T play through my SoundSticks?
    Help!
    Mark
P.S. A friend of mine is having the exact same problem with a G4 connected to SoundSticks. He says "HELP" too!

    Anyone?

  • Hello, I have recently purchased Apple TV, and sometimes it will play a song, and then when that song ends and switches to a new song it won't play, any ideas how to resolve this?

One song will play perfectly fine, but then when it switches songs it seems like it loads and then continues to load and won't play the next song! I turn home sharing on and off in itunes, and it will play a song and then the loading process repeats itself

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • New OS 6 won't play my music in my car

After I downloaded the new OS, I can't play my music in my car.

It's possible that your car system is not compatible with the new iOS 6.  have you tried using Bluetooth to stream the audio to the vehicle? What kind of car is this, by the way?

  • Can't install Encore 2.0 on new Vista machine

Called support on the 800 number today. Waited for 20 minutes only to discover that they can't help me over the phone with the 2.0 version of Encore. They can only support that here on the forum. OK then, here's my issue. This software was purchased by me for my job at a university. It is the educational version of Encore 2.0. My previous computer used for multimedia production was running XP SP2 and everything worked fine with the program. But, the software simply won't install on my new computer which runs Vista with SP1. I did deactivate the software on the old XP machine first, according to the instructions and was told I could now reactivate on a new computer. After going through the install motions at the very end of the process the software said "rolling back" installation and "could not be completed." All very frustrating. I had purchased the upgrade to 2.0 less than 18 months ago. But no tech support by phone. I will now assume that if I were to buy a CS 4 component tomorrow there will not be technical support via phone for the product after 2009. If someone can assist me with this it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Hmm... guess it depends on the individual computer, or exactly what Encore and/or Premiere are doing at the time... 'cause I know I've read messages from people who have tried task switching, and whatever they were doing promptly stopped
I didn't pay much attention (can't even remember if it was Encore or Premiere, but think Premiere) but it seems to me that if the program was DOING something, like rendering, the operation failed when focus shifted to another program
Oh well... I've always just started Encore or Premiere and walked away for awhile unti it was done
So... I guess the best thing to do for anyone who wants to know... start something going in Encore or Premiere and then Alt-Tab to another program, and see what happens

  • New Vista machine says iTunes is not a valid Win32 application

I am trying to install iTunes on my new Sony Vaio running Vista. When I try to install iTunes, it says iTunes is not a valid Win32 application. Can anyone help me...I have no idea what this means or what to do. Thanks!

After being on hold forever and then told it would cost me $30 for apple to troubleshoot, the lady at apple told me that since there are so many people trying to download itunes 7, the server is jammed up and to keep trying. so, i did. After about 10 attempts it downloaded successfully. So keep trying or try late at night when so many people aren't clogging up apple's server. Hope this helps.

  • New Mac Pro Won't play back

I'm having a problem with my new Mac Pro 2.66 I keep getting the error, "couldn't keep up". I've got maybe 5 tracks (Kontakt 2,Real Guitar, and EXS) and a couple plug ins and I can't get it to play. I press the space bar and it spins for a sec...plays maybe 1 second and then quits...pops up with the message saying it couldnt access info fast enough. I had my samples on a different computer networked via gigabit but some said that was the problem so I transfered them to a seperate internal (sata 2) drive and it still doesn't work. My CPU is either very low or it maxes out 2 or 3 of the cores before the freeze. I can't believe this is happening with this machine. This is why I got a new one. anyways...thanks for all suggestions.

Same problems here without any Native Instruments plugs.
4 tracks at the same time (2 audio and 2 nexus((or any other instruments))

  • New cd players won't play slide show made on Elements 9?

I can make a slide show on Elements 9 and burn it to cd-r, however, none of the newer players will read it or play it.  I can play it on an older machine, but I need to get a smaller, new cd player.  Can you help?

The best advice I can give you is don't throw good money at this. VCD is a dying format and it's increasingly hard to find anything that bothers to support it. Better to output as WMV and use something like windows movie maker or whatever software came with your dvd burner to make a real dvd. The quality is vastly superior, too.

  • New windows8 computer won't play music, only videos

    Hi,
So I'm trying to set up my new windows8 computer.  I can see all of my music, but when I try to play a song, iTunes chooses a video and plays it instead.  I can see and hear any video.  I cannot play any songs.  I tried checking and changing the bitrate as suggested in other threads, but that didn't work.
If anyone has suggestions, they would be much appreciated!
    Thanks!

Sometimes, my computer would be a pain and it took me forever to for the CD to load. About the playing music thing I don't know, but I think the not recognizing CDs is pretty normal. Unless you have a really high speed computer, have you tried defragging it?
