Imported clips into FCP 10.1.3 contain no audio in Yosemite...

I am running FCP 10.1.3 on a mid 2012 15" MBP Retina with the following specs...
2.7 GHz Intel Core i7
16GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
Ever since I updated to the public beta of Yosemite, when I import clips into FCP X I get the clip but my audio is no longer attached. I assumed this was an issue with the beta and that it would be resolved in the actual release but alas, that is not the case. Does anybody have any experience with this or could anyone point me in a direction. Much appreciated.

Here is the requested screen shot. In the events list, you will see the clips have no waveforms. In the inspector, you can see that Audio is not even an option and in the Project Timeline, you will see that there is no Waveform present. This clip has audio attached. The source media is irrelevant as this happens with screen capture clips or with clips I've shot with 3 different cameras. If I check the source file, in finder or in the camera the audio is present. This only started happening when I upgraded to Yosemite.

  • Import clips into FCP X version 10.0.8 and keep the original clip names

Can you Import clips into FCP X version 10.0.8 and keep the original clip names in the event original media folder? in version 10.0.8 it automatically allocates date / time of the event. I need it to keep the original clip name i:e Clip0100 event folder original media Clip0100. I am aware you can change the clip name to original once in FCP X, But it's the event folder original media name which I want to remain as the original file name.

    Hi Tom,
    Thanks for the response.
I am aware you can do this change in the Info inspector so the original clip name from camera is used in the event library browser, but it does not change the clip name in the Final Cut Events Original Mieda file. This still remains as an event clip name "2013-05-23 17_08_13". I need the original clip name Clip0100 to remain as Clip0100 at import. FCP X doesn't seem to allow this happen any more in version 10.0.8.

  • Importing Flip and iPhone clips into FCP

What is FCP's preferred video format?
I have a funky project consisting of clips from iPhone and a Flip Mino HD camera. When either of these are imported directly into FCP, they won't play without rendering, and any edit or trim "undoes" the render, forcing them to be rendered again... and again...
I'm guessing the best strategy is to convert them -- before importing -- to a format that FCP will like better and will play smoothly, without constant re-rendering.
So: what's the best format to convert them into, and what's the best tool for doing that pre-conversion?
Or am I wrong, and is there a way to handle these Flip and iPhone clips in FCP without pre-converting them?

Okay, that seemed to work. Thanks!
But now there's a new, odd problem: I can't add transitions! After dropping these new clips in the timeline, they play fine without rendering... but whenever I try to add a transition (dissolve, wipe, etc.) between clips, FCP changes the 1 second transition to a 3 frame transition. And there doesn't seem to be any way to change the duration - no matter what I do, it keeps changing back to one frame. Strangely, I can add the normal transition to the end of the sequence, but not between clips.
Am I missing something? Does the DVCPRO50 progressive format somehow prohibit modifications like transitions?
(And should I start this as a new topic?)

  • Best Method For Importing Clips Between FCP Projects

What is the best method for importing clips between FCP 7.0.3 projects?  I am wondering whether or not pulling the clips from the Capture Scratch folder is the way to go or will using Import from the new FCP project create a new folder in Capture Scratch with the imported clips?  I have a new HD camcorder with different clips for different projects and Log and Transfer makes it so easy to bring them all in at once but now wondering how best to separate them into separate Capture Scratch folders for each project.

well, I simply either drag them in to the new/different project from the finder, or drag or copy and paste between open fcp projects.  Never had any problems working this way.  Just remember that if you delete a specific project scratch disk folder, you may be deleting media used in another project.

  • Importing Quicktimes into FCP

I am importing an uncompressed quicktime movie done on FCP version 5 at 24 FPS into version 4.5 ,I brought it into a sequence 29.97 rendered out fine but found the picture stretched. Is there a setting I have to select in quicktime before importing it into FCP or is there a setting I forgot in FCP.

Is the image stretched virtically? People very thin? Then it is ANAMORPHIC footage. In the Browser scroll to the right and look for the ANAMORPHIC column. Put a check mark in that column next to the clip and you should be set.

  • Importing TIFF into FCP project

    Hi everybody,
I am importing Tiff into a FCP project.
I have all my clips listed in the order they were shot to go into the FCP project.
If I select more than one at a time to import within FCP, the Tiff are put in any order.
Would anyone know if there any way to import more than one TIFF at a time in such a way they appear in FCP in the order they were created ?
    Thanks in advance
    Bernard

The numbering works, just keep in mind - as Jim noted earlier - you must have the same number of digits in each name. Sequences of less than 99 should use 2 digits (01-99), over 100 but less than 999 = 3 digits (001-999) , over 999 but less than 9999= 4 digits (0001-9999) and so on.
Why is this? Try this experiment, name a series of files in the sequence of 1,2,5,11, 21,101 When you import that into FCP, it will be ordered: 1,11,101,2,21,5.
However, if you name them 001, 002, 005, 011, 021, 101 they will order themselves as you would expect.
I don't know how you are acquiring the images, but some scanning software allows you set up a common name + sequence number and automatically increment it after each scan. This can be a great timesaver.
    have fun.

  • Can't import Media into FCP X

In the last week or two when I try to import media into FCP X I end up with a very dark and locked import screen.  The only way I can recover is to force quit FCP X.  It doesn't always happen but it is getting more and more frequent.
I have not updated to Marverik and I'm running the latest version of FCP X on the same iMac I have used since installation.
Any suggestions beacuse it really is starting to beome very, very frustrating.
    Thanks

They system is hanging up, waiting on some command to finish, which is not able to.  So let's look at ways to fix this.  Becasue you never want to do an upgrade to fix problems.  Only upgrade a proerly working system.  Otherwise, you may just be hauling old problems into a new envoronment, and making things worse.  I've seen it a lot over the years.
First, verify that all of your drives have at least 15% of their total capacity as free space.  Not enough free space on any dirve can cause similar odd behaviors.
Second, you need to do some housee cleaning.  Start by downloading and running the free application "Preference Manager" from Digital Rebellion (dot com).  Use it to trash the FCPX preference files.  It is easy and safe to you.  None of your media or projects will be touched.  After that, run Disk Utility to "Repair" all of your drives (ignore "Verify", total waste of time).
If none of that helps, I'd recommand you download the free application "FCS Remover" from Digital Rebellion.  Use it to uninstall FCPX.  Some folks say to just move the app from the Applications folder to the Trash.  That leaves a bunch of other files hanging around that could be bad.  Use this app.  Once you've uninstalled FCPX, launch the App Store, go to the Purchases section, and FCPX will have an "Install" button.  Reinstall a fresh copy, see if that helps.

  • Importing Flash into FCP

I have Flash Pro 8 and FCP Pro HD and am still trying to learn both.
Can I create a piece in Flash and import it into FCP? If I need to upgrade FCP, I will - I just need to know if it's possible, and how to do it.
    thanks a lot.
    j.

On a related question, I have a number of flash animations for a client, a comic, and the movie is in 5 parts...I have the latest version of FCP and of Flash, and I am having a lot of problems exporting to quicktime and importing to FCP. I have tried export movie>quicktime and quicktime movie, with a variety of codecs (animation, motion graphics, DV), and every time some tweens(individual) are dropped, and some sounds from the flash movie. There must be a way to just clone what I can see in my swf into FCP? If anyone knows how, please help.
(and please, dont tell me to learn the apps as I have a professional level knowledge of both.)

  • Aspect ratio importing DV into FCP X

Can someone explain how DV format works (I think I understand this) and how importing DV into FCP X works (I definitely don't understand).
I have some old PAL DV files which I want to compress using Compressor, with the aim of later importing them into FCP X. I can compress them in one of two ways: compressing to 720x576 with the standard PAL aspect ratio, so they appear (eg. in QuickTime Player) as 768x576. Let's call this 'Old Style'. Or, I can compress them so they have square pixels, and genuinely are at 768x576. ('Square pixels').
Both display using QTP7 as 768x576, but Square Pixels is compressed slightly so there is more of the picture visible at left and right of the screen. Objects in the image are therefore thinner left-to-right than in Old Style.
Now, if I import them into FCP X, in the event browser Square Pixels still displays as 768x576 and looks just as it does in QTP. But Old Style is now wider than 768x576 and has the extra bit of picture that Square Pixels displays. So they're both displaying the same image, but Square Pixels has it compressed to fit into 768x576, whereas Old Style has it wider, and consequently people are fatter left-to-right.
When I import these events into a project, things change again. Old Style appears exactly as it does in the event browser (ie. about 786x576, with the whole image displayed). Square Pixels stretches the image north-south, and this means that part of the top and bottom of the image are chopped off.
What is going on? Is there a website which can explain this clearly? Which is the better format for me to compress my video into?
    Cheers,
    Martin S Taylor
    FCP X 10.1.2
    Compressor 4.1.2

    I don't understand your question?
DV footage on DV or mini-DV tapes is  already digitised  .  .  .  .  hence the name DV or Digital Video.
If you have a DV camera or deck you can plug it into your Mac via FireWire and import the footage straight into FCP X.

  • Audio-yes, Video-no (totally black) when importing .mov into FCP X, please help!

    Hello
I am trying to import some .mov files into Final Cut Pro X. The files were originally .RTS, shot from a Canon XHA1 in 1080i, I converted them to .mov using SmartConverter and they play absolutely fine in Quicktime. However, when I import them into FCP X, the audio plays fine, but the video just shows a black screen. The codecs of the .mov files are standard H.264/AAC. My other .mov files (from the same camera that were shot in 1080p instead of 1080i) import fine into FCP.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
    Laura.

  • Importing jpg into FCP

    Hi,
I've never had problems with importing jpg's before into fcp, but I was given a large group of photos and I imported them into fcp, looked at them in the viewer and they were fine. However, when i dragged them into the timeline, they came up distorted in the canvas. What is going on here? The other jpgs from other sources still work fine in my canvas.
    Matt

Here are the answers to you questions:
what are the pixel aspect ratios of the jpegs?
    988x1500
    are they square pixels?
i don't know whether they are square or not.
    Have you rendered the timeline?
    Yes I rendered the timeline
    best wishes

  • Can I import clips to FCP X at 180 degrees rather than flipping the clips individually once they are imported?

Can I import clips to FCP X at 180 degrees rather than flipping the clips individually once they are imported? I have about 300 clips all recorded upside down and i am looking for an easy solution.

Plenty of apps will rotate them.MPEG STreamclip has a batch function.

  • Is it possible to make is so that, immediately after I import a new clip into FCP, the file is automatically selected in the Event Library? (Similar to how After Effects and Premiere work).

Is it possible to make is so that, immediately after I import a new clip into FCPX, the file is automatically selected in the Event Library? (Similar to how After Effects and Premiere work). Right now, after I import a new file, I have to then go searching for it amid all the other files in my project. It would be extremely helpful if the file I just imported was already highlighted and selected after import, making it instantly "locatable" and ready to go.

in a perfect world, you do know the recording date, and you simply scroll to that date.
in a very perfect world, all your other imports are already tagged, so just have to create a smart list 'unrated' ...
(I know those messy Events… a friend of mine constantly ignores my advice to check the time/date on his camera; on every battery swap, the cam creates a very erratic timestamp ... his actual recordings are listed as made in "2004" or in "2020" .... )

  • How to correctly import .mts into FCP with full 5.1 audio

Well, I've found a couple of solutions to this so far. I'm not sure if this qualifies as a stickie, but it might be useful to others as well.
Getting the audio from new consumer video cameras, for example my Sony HandyCam, which have 1080p video, and 5.1 surround sound audio into FCP can be a bit tricky. The hard part is the audio. FCP will import the camera's .mts files fine using Log and Transfer, but the audio is mixed down to stereo.
This solution was posted over at Ken Story's FCP boards:
    http://www.shedworx.com/hd-information/surround-sound
Although I haven't tried it, it looks very good.
I actually tried the following method, using Parallels (i.e., some form of Windows):
I used TSMuxer in Windows to demux the .mts files. I then used BeLight which is a front end GUI for BeSweet **(you have to download both, and drag both the BeSweet application and the azid.dll file into the BeLight folder before you run). This separates the resulting .ac3 file into 6 mono .wav files.
I then just imported them back into FCP and all was well.
The advantage of this method is that it's free, but the major disadvantage is that it only runs in Windows, so you have to have a PC or emulator. So next time, I'll likely give VoltaicHD a spin.
Hope this helps anyone trying to do the full import to FCP

Oooof! Does this mean that we have to do this procedure, using VoltaicHD, for each and every one of the ~1750 clips with 5.1 surround I have from my trip to China? Perhaps I misunderstood, but it looked like this process was a one-clip-at-a-time process?

  • Cannot import clips into iMovie 08

I have a few clips that were spliced together with QTPro and now I cannot import them into iMovie08. I have checked the movies themselves and I do not see any specific info that would cause a problem.
I cannot drag and drop the clips into iMovie nor can I use the import function, as the .mov files are greyed out.
This didn't happen before I upgraded to QT Pro.

    AAC, MPEG-4
For the moment will assume you mean QT MPEG-4 here and not something like Microsoft's non-standard variation. (If not QT then please advise.) In the case that it is QT MPEG-4, did any of the source files contain extraneous tracks like an iPhoto slideshow with its "Tween" track. Such extraneous tracks are not understood by iMovie '08 and it will reject their import. If so, then use QT Pro to delete the extraneous track(s)
