Imported Final Cut Video Dimension Problem

I have 3 sequences from Final Cut that I am exporting for to be burned onto DVD. However, only one sequence shows up as wide screen and the other two show up as 4:3. I am positive that the sequences have the same settings for export but iDVD makes only one widescreen and I want all three to be widescreen.

I suggest you use Anamorphicizer from http://homepage.mac.com/sith33/FileSharing34.html to properly set the flag to widescreen. It's the very first download on this page. Do not use the second one.
Note that the second download (Inverse-Anamorphicizer) is for the exact opposite problem where 4:3 content is treated as widescreen in iDVD which forces the content to be recognized as 4:3.
Hope this heps but if not just come on back. Good luck.

How do you import final cut pro projects into imovie?
(like you create a project in final cut but i want to save it, and import it into imovie..

    Hi -
Mr. Ross is right, there is no direct way to export your project with all it's elements into iMovie.
If, on the other hand, you have a completed sequence in FCP that you want to export as a finished element, then import into iMovie for you to re-edit or apply titles, music, etc. you would:
    In FCP:
Click on the Sequence Icon you want to export in your browser.
Go to the menu File > Export > Quicktime Movie. Give your movie a name a navigate to where you want it stored. Make sure you choose Settings: Current Settings and have the Make Movie Self Contained checked. Click Save.
    Close FCP and open iMovie.
    In iMovie:
Go to the menu File > Import > Movies and navigate to the movie you just exported from FCP. Choose if you want your movie imported in it's original size, etc.
Click Import. Your movie will be imported into iMovie.
Note that using this method only gives you only the elements that made up your FCP sequence, so this may not give you the flexibility you need.
    Hope this helps.

  • Final Cut Express 2 - Problem rendering video in sequence

I've created a 23 minute video but the last portion of the video will not render in the sequence. The audio continues to render. I would like to make some small adjustments and polish up the sequence to make a final copy but I can't see it in the canvas. I tried copying and pasting this sequence to a new sequence and to a new project. Making a new project worked once - for awhile the video was rendering and then it stopped again. Any suggestions? The render command just flashes a quick window - but doesn't do more than that.

I have Final Cut Express 2 and I'm working on a G5 with OSX. I have two hard drives and on the one with the video, I still have quite a bit of free space.
Do you think I should try to export it in 2 pieces by using the in and out markers when I export? Will that mess up iDVD when I go to press it?

  • Final Cut Pro 4:  Problems exporting video using QuickTime conversion

just recently updated my Mac to version 10.4.11 -
Ever since, Final Cut Pro won't let me Export my video using QuickTime Conversion.
Its starts exporting, then freezes at 79%. A general error message pops up.
I know its not a space issue, because I have 20GB left and the video i'm exporting is only 2 GB.
I installed all the software updates.
Can anyone help? Do I need a new version of Final Cut?

    1) this is the final cut express forum not the pro.
    2) 10.4.6 is not the latest, try updating to 10.4.11
    3) after any system update you must run disk utility to repair permissions or errors that may not have been addressed during the upgrade process.
    4) have you tried exporting as a reference movie then playing it in qtpro, if ok then export.
    5) what are you trying to export too?

  • Exporting final cut video into DVD.

Hi I'm exporting video from final cut into IDVD but having problems as every video is pixelated, i need help in telling me which is are the best formats and settings to set it to, we are mostly doing wedding videos, and we want the quality of the dvd to be good in a tv and on my 30'' apple screen, any help is much appreciated, this forum is great...thank you all...

Use *Export/Quicktime Movie* (not Export/Using Quicktime Conversion): then you can select whether to Make Movie Self-Contained or not. Quality is the same, but if movie is self-contained you can move it to another Mac for burning; on the other hand it takes more time and disk space.
The resulting .mov file may be imported into iDVD, which will take care to compress it to MPEG2 before burning.
Note that this workflow is good for creating DVDs with iDVD. But the resulting DVD is best watched on a real (interlaced) TV, not on a (progressive) Mac/PC monitor.

  • Final Cut Pro 5, problems with switching between HDV and DV

I recorded a movie in HDV 1080i50 and captured it into Final Cut Pro 5. I think the capture was done correctly (but the video was captured by another person), with Easy Setup on HDV 1080i50 and the camera set on HDV 1080i.
The sequence in which I edited the movie had its settings on DV PAl which was necesary for me to export the video for DVD. Of course I had to render the clips many times in the DV mode. Later I wanted to export the movie to tape in the original HDV format so I changed the sequence settings to HDV 1080i50.
There I encountered a problem. The frame became very small while the aspect ratio was huge (1920x1080) and it didn´t matter though I copied the clips to a new sequence (with its settings on HDV).
Does anybody know why this occurres? Is it possible that the frame size distorts if I change the sequence settings from HDV to DV and again to HDV? Because I have also tried to put the original audio/video files into a new HDV sequence and there the frames dimensions are correct.

I think your workflow is completely wrong.
Edit in whatever codec the footage is, then export via
    Compressor > Advanced Format Conversion
    It's that simple.
You can't just change your sequence settings to whatever you want the footage to be.

  • Final Cut Express HD Problem

I got Final Cut Express for my birthday in march. I bought a firewire cable to connect my DV Sony camcorder to my mac. The problem is when I click File and then capture, the footage won't import from the camcorder and when it plays its all shacky and disorted. I tried it with iMovie HD works like a charm. I did a FCE update to 3.5.1 still the same problem. I also Reinstalled OS X Tiger and updated it to 10.4.9 again. I heard about Macbooks having a similar problem it was something to do with an AGP graphics problem, but i'm using a Mac mini. Please help!!

Welcome to the discussions from a fellow resident in the People's Republic of Yorkshire...
Are you using 'easy set-up'>DV PAL ?
Have you got device control set to 'firewire pal' ('Audio/video settings'>device control preset>firewire pal)
Are you capturing to internal drive or ,as recommended, to a Mac OS Extended (not journaled) formatted external FireWire drive?
Have you tried 'trashing preferences'? (perform a search in this forum).

  • Converting Editing and Exporting Final Cut Videos

I've recently begun making videos with Final Cut but because they are in a format not used by Final Cut I use MPEG StreamClip to Convert them. For Some reason, the videos I make when I export the Final Products always leave "room around the borders" (alot of room around the borders) I would like to export films that "fill" the screen. What am I doing wrong? What should I convert the sizes of the video files too and when importing to Final Cut is there something special I should follow as well?

The Original Video was an .MOD video file I use MPEG StreamClip to convert it to a video that is of Dimensions 854 x 480 DV / DVCPRO - NTSC LINEAR PCM.
When Imported into Final Cut it asks If I would like to Match Video with Sequence Settings if I click Yes The File fits the window appropriately but is not able to be quickly viewed because it needs Rendering if I click No then the file does not fit the window and is able to be quick edited without rendering. I would like the video to Fit the Window and be Quick Edited... I am not sure what I am doing wrong is it the settings I use in MPEG StreamClip??
I tried playing around with the sequnce settings in Final Cut to get the video to match the dimensions of the video but nothing has worked yet.

  • Final Cut to DV Problems, Big Problems

I have used Final Cut for years now and I edit video captured from DV tape and then print back to DV tape. I have had no problems at all until recently. Here is what is happening. When I print it back to tape and when I view the results, frames are skipping and now today it made an audio screech sound and then the video froze for 15seconds and then started back again. If I take an unedited video to dv player, no problems. When I edit, the video does not look smooth. You can see as if frames are dropping all of a sudden. I have not changed any preferences at all. I am using a iMac 24 " with 4 gb of ram and a 500 gb hard drive running Leopard. Any ideas ? My DV machine is a new Sony HD machine.

problems continue. When I printed to tape and played back on the DV machine when there was a roll in of text or graphics, the tape glitched bad. this has never happened before and I am at a loss. I can export to Quicktime I guess and use broadband medium to keep the quality. This has to stay high quality because it goes to TV and to video venues for our churches. Any thoughts as to what is going on. It seems to be a print to video problem. I make sure that all my sequences are rendered. I capture from DV tape into FCP and then edit and add points and scriptures and then print to video. This just started 2 weeks ago.

  • G4 and Final Cut Express installation problems

Thank you in advance for any help you can send my way. Any will be greatly appreciated.
I have a PowerMac G4 (gray) tower. Recently, under the advice of a Mac tech, I installed a 200GB harddrive and a Sonnet's Tempo ATA133 PCI card so that I could successfully install and run FinalCut Express. Now not only do I have the previous installed but I also have 1GHz CPU Speed, 1GB of RAM, DVD/Superdrive, Mac OS 10.4.3 and more than enough memory for the installation.
So now for the two strange parts:
    1) When trying to install Final Cut it says that I cannot install the software because I lack the hardware.
    2) And now I noticed in my System Profiler it says that my Machine Name is "Power Mac G3 (PCI graphics)" which I know it is not!
Do I have the wrong PCI card? Did I install it wrong? Am I missing something?
For your reference, listed below is what is required to run Final Cut Express:
    Minimum Hardware Requirements
    • A Macintosh computer with a 500 MHz or faster PowerPC G4 or G5 processor (550 MHz for PowerBook G4, 450 MHz for dual-processor Power Mac G4 or G5) and an AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) graphics card compatible with Quartz Extreme
    • 384 MB of RAM (512 MB required for RT Extreme and Soundtrack)
    • For HDV: A Macintosh computer with a 1 GHz or faster PowerPC G4 or G5 processor and 1 GB of RAM
    • 1 GB of available disk space for application installation
    • 5 GB of available disk space for Soundtrack content
    • 9 GB of available disk space for LiveType content
    • DVD drive for software installation
    Minimum Software Requirements
    • Mac OS X 10.3.7 or later
    • QuickTime 6.5.2 or later
    Thanks again.

    HI Coyote,
This could prove to be a problem. You definitely need 65MB of VRAM to run FCP. And FCP is a fairly sophisticated video editing program and takes time to learn. Unless the iBook has DVD burn capability, which I doubt, even with an older version of iLife, you wouldn't be able to burn to DVD's. But you could use iMovie, which is part of iLife to view video that's been uploaded to the iBook. Another potential problem is, I think this particular iBookG4's factory drive is 60GB. Video editing requires huge amounts of drive space to run without crashing. iLife 05 requires 4.3GB of drive space. iLife 05 requires 256MB of RAM, but runs much more efficiently with 512MB.
So, you have several glitches. Limited drive space, limited memory, insufficient VRAM, and no DVD burn capability. You wouy also need a camcorder that is compatible with the iBookG4.
I wish I had better news... here is a link to Apple's information for minimum requirements for iLife 05: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306338

  • What is the minimum used MAC to run 2009 Final Cut Video Editing S/W which requires 128 mb VRAM and OSX 10.5?

I'm looking for a used MAC, probably a tower, that has at least OSX 10.5 running on an Intel processor, with at least 128 mg VRAM, so I can stream VCR content to it via a USB A/D converter, and run my 2009 version of Final Cut to edit the content, then write it onto a dual-sided DVD writer.  This process is all this machine would do.
What used MACs will handle this chore?  How far back can I go in the used MAC market to still supply these requirements?   What recommended older systems would you suggest?
    Thanks,
    Airpilot

"Work" is a relative term...  please understand I'm not an engineer but I've been playing with this stuff since before floppy drives and I can't see a "USB-to-Firewire converter" doing anything to the bus protocol. I'm guessing it adapts one physical plug to the other and allows data to pass.
In most cases, the weakest link (you or least desirable feature) prevails and that would mean you could plug a FW drive into a USB socket.  But I could be wrong...
An ideal solution would USB 3.0 that is offered on the latest Minis but then we're driving price again.
I understand that since this is a "purpose built" system you want to save money, I certainly would. But in this case there are some pretty strict rules if you want good results.  One of those rules is that since you won't have much control of the VHS you need to be able to stream the data through non-stop to get all of it. A FW drive can do that or a plain old SATA II drive in a Mac Pro internal bay will do it no sweat for standard def video. Historically, USB 2.0 drives worked on occasion and created problem the rest of the time.
That said, it's your Circus and you can have as many clowns as you like.
    Good luck

  • Importing Final Cut XML Hangs Premiere Pro CC 2014

I am posting this more as a question as to how to report hangs or console reports of PP crashes.
I have a Final Cut Pro project that I wanted to migrate to Premiere Pro using the XML route. When I import the XML from Final Cut, the app hangs with a series of console messages. I think it can't import the DVCPro HD audio and many of the filters used in the Final Cut Project also cause this hang.
On import, a rectangle dialog box appears with no content in it - just a white box. Then the pinwheel of death.
Here are some of the console messages:

This also generates an Adobe Premiere Pro hang log in the console system diagnostics.

Sort of a work around I am testing:
I have a cool script to open FCPro projects in AE. Sort of a free Automatic Duck.  I was going to do this:
Remove all effects and proprietary tracks in FCPro, as some cause problems with this script. Trial and error here.
Use the free script FCP2AE to export to AE (it's hard to find now)
Open the timeline in AE via the script FCP2AE
Export that from AE as PPProCC 2014 project
    Open in PPCC2014
That may work, it may also work just to remove all effects and then save the XML and open in PP CC 2014. Again sometimes it does work. The simpler the FCPro project the better.
    Another option
I was able to open the FCPro audio only OMF in Audition. Then I exported via XML FCPro format from Audition and this opened the audio tracks in PPCC2014. The stereo tracks were broken and placed on two mono tracks so you'll have to address that one.

  • DPX - Glue Tools -  Final Cut - Color workflow problem

    Hello all,
I haven't worked much with DPX since the Final Cut Studio 2 update and have now come upon an urgent problem.
I need to import 16bit DPX files into Final Cut, cut them on the timeline, then send to Color and back to FCP after correction.
I've tried this in serveral ways which lead to different problems.
    First approach:
    - Import DPX Sequence via Glue Tools DPX Import of Final Cut Pro 7
    - Drop on timeline
    - Send to Color
    - Opens just fine, color correct, render
    - Send to Final Cut Pro
It switches to Final Cut, but doesn't open the new corrected sequence.
    Second approach:
    - Instead of sending the corrected movie to Final Cut, Export XML
    - Import XML into Final Cut
Again it switches to Final Cut, but I get the following error message (translation from German): The xml transformation has been cancelled due to a serious error.
    Third approach:
Because I don't have much time at the moment I thought I'd just go back to the older workflow of putting the dpx files into a mov container first (I haven't worked much with dpx since FCS2).
So I opened one of the dpx files with QT7 and exported into an uncompressed mov file and already have the first problem.
It seems to cut off all the shadows. When I open the newly exported mov file with QT7 and compare it with the still open dpx sequence it looks even more flat than the dpx files and seems to has lost all shadow detail.
When I drop the mov file into FCP, send to Color and try to get some contrast into the film the shadows look completely crushed.
Sending back to Final Cut works now though.
I've searched through the archive and read the Glue Tools manual again, but nothing I try seems to work.
I use the newest Glue Tools version and the settings are standard. Changing them doesn't seem to influence exporting to a mov file anyway.
Any hint would be much appreciated!

So I opened one of the dpx files with QT7 and exported into an uncompressed mov file and already have the first problem.
it looks even more flat than the dpx files and seems to has lost all shadow detail.
It "looks" even more flat and seems to have lost shadow detail?
You are not measuring values with a scope? In other words you're "flying blind.''
Sounds like an RGB/Y'CbCr scaling problem -- Probably the dpx files are full range and the QT is being rendered Linear so the black "0" is actually being mapped to about minus 10 IRE and your white vales won't be able to make it much above 85-90 units. There will also be a gamma difference. If you were scoping these values, they'd be instantly obvious.

  • Importing final cut pro 7 to final cut X using XML

OK so I just read Apple's new FAQ and it says support for XML is forthcoming. Couldn't someone enterprising individual   just write an app which transforms FCXML from FCP 7 to FCP X XML. There could be some data loss, but better than nothing..

    the black sun wrote:
But they have said they will not be supporting import of FCP 7 projects. Sad but true.
    Factually incorrect. Sad but true.
Tell me what is factually incorrect? There is absolutely no mention or commitment to providing any sort of tool to bring in final cut pro 7 projects in any shape or form. They could have said "a limited import tool is being worked on, but will only support a limited feature set, and data loss/changes to your project may occur." But they didn't. Here's the exact quote from Apple's FAQ (emphasis added):
Can I import projects from Final Cut Pro 7 into Final Cut Pro X?
Final Cut Pro X includes an all-new project architecture structured around a trackless timeline and connected clips. In addition, Final Cut Pro X features new and redesigned audio effects, video effects, and color grading tools. Because of these changes, there is no way to “translate” or bring in old projects without changing or losing data. But if you’re already working with Final Cut Pro 7, you can continue to do so after installing Final Cut Pro X, and Final Cut Pro 7 will work with Mac OS X Lion. You can also import your media files from previous versions into Final Cut Pro X.
