Imported from 'my photos' folders created in windows.

I am new to mac, and have imported folders and sub-folders from 'myphotos' created in windows. THe Folders were originally created in a tree type structure in the hierarchy year - month - date making it easy to find stuff (so long as I remembered the date. But importing into iphoto has lost the tree structure, and I would like to try to recreate this, but I don't seem to be able to make sub-folders. Can this be done in iphoto? if so how?

Although there is no need to do so making a date based folder structure is trivial
Given that dates are often the worst way to find photos ((so long as I remembered the date) and that with iPhoto you can instantly pull up all of the photos from any date or date range using the search window in the lower left.
To do what you want make the folders you want (file menu ==> new ==> folder) and then make smart albums (file menu ==> new ==> smart album) for each sub date range you want - place the albums in the appropriate folders
iPhoto is a SQL database and has powerful search and smart album capabilities
I use the old who, what, when, where and why system
Faces to give me Who
Keywords for What and Why
Places for where
and When is automatically added by the camera and is searchable
you need to forget your old paradigm of file management and start thinking about photo management
With your old system I defy you to ever find all photos of your wife and your son (an example) - with iPhoto a simple smart album will bring them up instantly

Some photo folders in my Windows Photo Gallery are listed in iTunes when I sync my iPhone 3GS but the folders are empty.  The same photo folders in Windows Photo Gallery are full of photos. How do I fix this?

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

  • Import from Server Tabular Project creating a new Tabular DB?

    Hi,
I have a Tabular database on a server want to make some changes to it, for that I have imported Tabular DB through BIDS and trying to makes changes, and what I see is every time I import the tabular DB its creating a New DB on the server with <DBName><UserName><GUID>.
Is this the Tabular Model behavior or an I missing anything here?
How to make the changes to the existing Tabular?
    Thanks

    Hi SQL_Gun,
According to your description, you want to modify an existing tabular database. Right?
In Analysis Services Tabular mode, once the "Import from Server" project is created, the Workspace database will appear in the Analysis Services instance specified in the
Workspace Server property. The name cannot be set in the Properties window. The default setting of Workspace database is the project name, followed by an underscore, followed by the username, followed by an underscore, followed by a GUID. In this
scenario, I suggest open the original project which created that tabular database. Modify the project and redeploy it.

  • Importing from Target Photo CD

So this is a little bit nit-picky, but when I import pictures from a Target Photo CD, it does not pull the original file from the CD, iphoto only makes an alias to the original file, which is on the CD. I know I can put a folder of those CD pictures(the originals), stick it somewhere in my main pictures folder, import to iphoto (which still uses alias') and be content that way, but how could I go about bypassing the whole alias thing so there is just one folder with the originals and that is what iphoto utilizes to view from? If possible? Thanks in advance...

iPhoto has two import modes. The normal (default) mode copies all imported photos (original size) to the iPhoto Library folder. The other mode only creates a pointer to where the original photos are.
Open iPhoto Preferences and click the Advanced icon. "Copy files to iPhoto Library Folder" should be checked if you want them copied during import.
Both modes also create various thumbnails that iPhoto uses to display the photos. Those thumbnails are much smaller and therefore iPhoto can more quickly display them and scroll, etc.
To find where your original files are being stored, right-click (or control-click) a photo and choose Show File. If you've edited the image in iPhoto (including if iPhoto rotated it automatically) you'll also see an entry for Show Original. When you select one of these, a Finder window will open with your original or edited image selected. This is the full size image, not the thumbnail.

  • Folders created in Windows accessible on Mac

When I get an iMac, I will be from time to time needing to transfer jpeg pictures and MP3 files from a Windows PC to my iMac by way of a USB thumb drive or external USB hard drive.
From what I have read. I would need to ensure that the USB thumb drive, USB external hard drive were formatted in either FAT32 or exFat (exFat been needed if the files were 4GB or above).
Now the MP3 files and jpeg pictures would be in folders that were created in Windows. Would these folders be accessible after I had copied them over onto my iMac. I didn't know if with the folders been created on Windows, if they would be accessible on Mac?
    Thanks in advance.

But perhaps File Sharing would workbetter?
    Thanks for the help.
When you mention 'Folders should be accesable if no strange characters are used'. What do you mean by this?
If you mean characters used in the naming of the files and folders, then I would be just naming them with either letters and numbers, maybe both.
When you mention file sharing. It would be a friends Windows PC and for convenience I thought the USB external hard drive or USB thumb drive method would be the easiest option.
    Thanks again.

  • Import from I Photo

Just recently got a Mac Book Pro, imported everything from old g4 to new computer. Once import was finished, switched to Aperture from Ilife 11.
Aperture is not showing that it imported my Folders, Books and Mobile Me galleries from I photo, does it normally import those things or do I have to reset them up?
Then if I delete the iphoto library to save disc space will i loose my mobile me galleries?
    Brandon

Yes you will lose all your unique iphoto items in the iphoto library if you delete it, I would hold onto it for several months until you are SURE you can part with it. For example, slideshows are the same between the two apps so those come over but book albums are not, and Aperture doesn't have cards and calendars at all. For your mobile me galleries, try logging into your mobile me account on the web and and in the galleries area, select the albums and reset their type from iphoto to aperture. The open aperture and sync.

  • Import from Corel Photo Album 6

I'd like to import a library of a few thousand photos from Corel Photo Album 6 into iPhoto '08. The photos in Photo Album include a Picture Title which is stored in the Photo Album database, not in the photo file and is different from the File Name.
Is there a way to import the photos and the Titles into iPhoto '08?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I don't think so unless there's a way to get Corel to write the titles to the files.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Why do I get two images when importing from i-photo into aperture

    Guys
I am a new convert to Mac's and am a keen amateur photographer ,I have transfered my photo library from my old pc into i-photo initially which worked fine and for my photo editing package I have loaded up aperture 3.When I transfer RAW photos from I-photo library into Aperture I end up with two raw images of the same photo one is called 'i-photo original raw' and the other ' i-photo edited raw ' I think I am probably missing a trick somewhere but am worried I will rapidly fill up file space with all these raw images.

When you import a Raw to iPhoto it automatically makes a jpeg Preview of the shot. Why? Because you can't do anything with Raw - can't print it, share it online, use it in other apps etc. So to allow you to use the file immediately the Preview is available. That's the second file you're getting.
You're not trying to use iPhoto and Aperture together are you? It's a waste of time and a cause of some frustration. Aperture is a complete replacement for iphoto, and you're really better off picking one horse to ride and forget about the other. Like iphoto, Aperture is a Photo Manager and post processor - but rather more powerful. Both apps are database driven. Aperture is not an "editing package".
If you do opt to stay with iPhoto then use an editor like Photoshop, Elements, Acorn, Pixelmator etc as your editng package.
    Regards
    TD

Is it possible to take headshots from several photos and combine them to create a new photo?

Photoshop Elements for Mac has a feature just for that. It also can do other "substitutions":
However, here are some other candidates to consider:
Some Image Editors That Support layers:
    Photoshop Elements 11 for Mac - $79
    GraphicConverter - $40
    Rainbow Painter - $30

  • Unable to Import from My Picture Folders

I today downloaded Photoshop Album 2 Starter. The following ODBC error message was received (Internal Error : Data Not Found)when I tried to import folders with images from 'My Pictures'. All my images previously held by my previous Photoshop Album 1 software were transferred and are fully functional.
Also, I have tried Picasa and Roxio and there are no problems associated with them!
I am a keen photographer looking for (hopefully) Photoshop Elements/Album software but I need to resolve this problem - I am not 'well read' in IT matters so if someone out there can help me please try to keep it simple. Thank you.

Hi Charles,<br /><br />You may try clearing all your preferences and then use Photoshop Album Starter Edition.<br /><br />Further, Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0 is now avilable for download so may try using the lastest version.<br /><br />Please delete psa.prf file (and other files) from <C:\Documents and Settings\<logon name>\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Album>. <br /><br />Application data is a hidden folder so you need to change view options in explorer to be able to view hidden files.<br />i.e. In Windows explorer  --> Tools menu --> Folder Options...--> View tab, select options to see hiddden files and folders.<br /><br />Let us know, if your problem is resolved.

  • Files/folders created in Windows share are read-only... why and how to fix?

    Client: MacBook Pro running 10.7.5
    Server: Windows 7 desktop
I'm sharing a folder from the Windows 7 machine and mounting it on my Mac using Finder's "Connect to Server..." and an smb:// URI. I'm providing a user ID/password for an account on the Windows 7 box that has full control over the shared folder, via smb://userid:password@server/share.
The volume mounts properly on my desktop, can I can see files/folders there as expected. However:
If I create a folder, it's read-only. I cannot create any files inside (or even see inside), rename the folder, or delete the folder. The folder has a badge: red circle with bar.
If I create a file, it's read-only. I cannot rename it, delete it or edit it.
If I examine File Info via Finder on any of these files or folders, under Sharing & Permissions it says "You have custom access."
If I try to delete these files/folders, I get error code -8072. I can delete them from the command-line, but I can't otherwise manipulate them.
I've verified on the Windows box that the user ID I'm using has full control of the folder. I've also set it so Everyone has full control, with no difference.
This seems to have been a recent change in behaviour (a few weeks ago I was copying data to this drive, no problem), and it's driving me crazy because I can't figure out how to fix it.

    L145:
It is always good counsel to Repair Disk Permissions (from the internal HDD) before and after any new installation.
To change permissions in our Applications Folder:
    Select Applications Folder.
    Get Info (Command + i)
Go down to Ownership & Permissions
Click on arrow next to Details to expand.
    Click on lock and authenticate
    Owner is system
    Group is admin
Change all permissions to Read & Write except Others
    Other can Read only.
Please do not hesitate to post back should you have any further questions or comments.
    Good luck.

  • Video import from HandiCam = no file created

I’m trying to import some footage that was recorded on a Sony 8mm Handicam ( model DCR-TRV330  NTSC)  into iMovie (version 10.0.6).  I’ve got the camera hooked up via firewire. I can select ‘import video’ from the iMovie window.  iMovie is able to control the transport of the camera and I can see playback in the iMovie window.
I click on “import”,   the video plays and it shows “recording….” in the top left of the import window.  It also says “No Data from Device” in the top right of the window.  When I’m done importing there is no data file created in the selected library.   In short, everything seems to be working as I’d expect, but there is no video file being saved!
    What to do?

Use iMovie HD 06 or iMovie 11. (My favorite is iMovie HD 06.)  Both are readily available on Amazon as part of iLife 06 or iLife 11.  These versions happily work with FireWire.
Also, Apple has removed the ability to set chapter markers with iMovie 10.   With iMovie HD 06 or iMovie 11 one click will set your chapter markers. These markers are automatically recognized by iDVD.

  • Importing from DVD to iTunes 7 on Windows XP -- blue screen crash?!?

    Hi,
I'm trying to import a DVD of music I burned from my iTunes library on my iMac to a Windows XP laptop. The first disc burned just fine, but the second one crashed with a blue screen error (though it flashed by too quickly to get the particulars). After re-booting, when I open iTunes, it continues to rip the DVD just fine. Until I insert the next DVD, when the same thing happens all over again.
I have already authorized the windows machine with my iTunes password. The iMac is an intel core duo running OS 10.4 and the laptop is a T61 Thinkpad dual core processor (2.4gHz?) with Windows XP and 4 gigs of RAM.
Does anyone know what is going on or what I need to do to fix it?

  • Folders created in Windows not deleting on Mac

    Hello,
I recently moved all my windows data to the Mac. After reorganising, when I tried to delete few folder, they are not getting deleted.
I tried dragging them to the TRASH, they are just lying down there and getting deleted  even when I try the SECURE DELETE option in Mac.
How do I delete these folders/data.
    Ajay.

    Try a re-boot.
If that does not work, try:
Force the Trash to empty using the Option key:
This technique uses a hidden feature of Mac OS X to force the Trash to empty.
Perform the following steps in the order specified:
Press and hold the mouse button on the Trash icon in the Dock. The context menu for Trash will display.
Press and hold the Option key or the Shift-Option keyboard combination,
Select Empty Trash from the context menu for Trash.
Release the keys pressed and held in step 2.
