Imported image and making white space transparent...

I need to make the white space around an image transparent without having to use the clipping mask tool. In Freehand, you simply click a button and the white background disappears. I need to use that exact technique to hide the white background.
How can I do this in InDesign?
Thank you.

There's quick, and there's right. They're rarely in the same space.
To make a transparent background can be a complex and fussy process. While InDesign could include a general tool to do so, it would likely be inferior to actually making the image background transparent in a native image editing tool.
I've found most such embedded features to be adequate only for low end work - e.g., they leave a background halo on the image, or a noisy edge, or other image problems. I really don't see it as a flaw or omission that ID forces you to use a proper tool to create the background transparency.

  • Importing Images and Making Mask's with shape's "HELP PLEASE"

    Hey,
    So two things, I have Motion 3 and every time I try to import my photos from Aperture into motion, motion stretches my photo out. The photos are regular jpeg res around 2304-1536 is this to high of a resolution, any tips? Last thing, so I want to import a whole bunch of photos into motion and make kinda a montage with the photo's but in a shape of a heart (valentines day) I cant seem to mask the heart that motion has in it's library to a photo how do you do this and can I mask a group of pics as a heart shape?
    Thanks so much!

    Yes, the picture may be a bit too large and you will asking Motion to a bit of unnecessary heavy lifting.
    However do you want the heart to mask the entire montage? If so apply to the group containing the photos.

  • I'm involved in fashion and would like to know which Adobe program would be suitable for importing images and my company logo to design fabric and send as image to fabric printers? Thanks

    I'm involved in fashion and would like to know which Adobe program would be suitable for importing images and my company logo to design fabric and send as image to fabric printers? Thanks

    Adobe Illustrator.  Your company logo should be a vector file.  Image files can be "Placed" in Illustrator.  Artwork created for printing can be drawn in Illustrator and saved as .ai, .eps, and .pdf files which can be imported into your printer's RIP.  But, check with your print vendors and see what they require.  This does not rule-out Photoshop, however Photoshop can be limited.  So, it would be a good idea to have Photoshop and Illustrator loaded in your workstation with Illustrator being the go-to application.

  • Lightroom 5 is not showing previous sucessfuly imported images and images are not identified as missing, there are no images shown in the library, how do  I reconnect missing images?

    lightroom 5 is not showing previous successfully imported images and images are not identified as missing, there are no images shown in the library, how do  I reconnect missing images?

    If the images are not identified as missing ... then you can't reconnect them
    But I'm not really sure what is happening, as I don't understand your description of the problem, could you show us a screen capture? Or describe what appears on your screen in much more detail...

         <p>Sending Otis to Brian for the board and train program was the best decision I ever made.  After being told Otis could not be helped and that he should be put down, I was devastated.  Otis has now been back from Brian's program for a few weeks and is extremely obedient and friendly.  He is the same puppy we brought home a couple years ago, but calmer and without any aggression.  We work on Otis' obedience daily as well as walk him and put him on the treadmill.   Thanks to Brian, our dog is happy-go-lucky and more approachable.  The list goes on and on of how Brian has helped the family, myself, and especially Otis.  If you are having issues with your dog, especially behavior and aggression problems, my advice to you is to trust Brian.  Your dog will be in good hands with a safe, reliable, responsible, dog lover that will treat your dog like his own.<br />

    The issue with that white space is explained by the use of relative positioning of your menu. Remember that relative positioning visually allows you to move an element, but that its "shadow" or "foot print" is retained in the document flow. So it still takes up space where it originally flowed in your content, and this causes the header image to position itself the way it does. Turn off the relative positioning of the menu to see what I mean. A simple solution is to set the #header to relative positioning, and then apply absolute positioning to the menu.
    There are other issues with your code. Much of it can be simplified, and you should really stop using ID selectors from this point on, and predominantly use classes instead. The use of ID selectors ought to be limited as much as you can - they force you to write bloated convoluted code.
    Try to write DryCSS (Don't Repeat Yourself).
    Here is my somewhat cleaned up code. Notice I removed and simplified most of the css selectors. Some have no css properties at all anymore. And be careful that you cannot use re-use the same id selector in your html  code: it will not validate. #program1 must become .program1
    PS as always, please backup your files before applying these changes! Dreamweaver lacks a history/versioning feature!

  • Aperture won't let import images because of inadequate space, even though teh drive has more than terabyte. Any ideas?

    Aperture won't let me import images. It tells me that there is not enough space in the Aperture volume. I am directing the images to a remote drive that has plenty of space. Any ideas?

    It tells me that there is not enough space in the Aperture volume.
    Is your library managed or referenced? If referenced, are the library and the originals on the same volume? And how full are the system drive and the drive with the library?
    I am directing the images to a remote drive that has plenty of space.
    So your drive is not directly connected? What kind of drive? A NAS?

  • Conditional Build Tab for image leaves extra white space

    I've applied the "Print" Conditional Build Tag to an image in
    my online help. When I generate the help and view it in the
    browser, extra white space is inserted between the steps. For
    example, instead of the steps being:
    1.
    2.
    3. etc.
    They now look like this:
    1.
    2.
    3. etc.
    Why is there extra white space where the image used to be?
    Thanks in advance for your help. Using RoboHelp7 -- WebHelp.
    Bill

    Probably there is a paragraph break or a space that you can't
    see but is not enclosed in the conditional tag.
    Check the html code immediately before and after the tag.

  • Scanning a line and skipping white space

    Hi,
    Yea I need to scan I line which I already have, but how do I skip white space or turn that scanned line into one without white space in it,
    I saw trim but doesn't that only take it off the begining and the end of the String?
    Is there an easy why to either scan it skipping white space or get that scanned line into one without white space in it?
    Thanks

    One way is to use StringTokenizer with " \t\n\r" as the separator string.
    StringTokenizer    tkzr = new StringTokenizer(str, " \t\r\n");
    StringBuffer       result;
    while (tkzr.hasMoreTokens()) {
        String    tkn = tkzr.nextToken();
        result.append(tkn);
    String             answer = result.toString();

  • Find and remove white space

    Hi,
    In Oracle, using SQL or PL/SQL, how can I find trailing white spaces (space, newline, carriage return, tab) and remove them?
    Thanks,

    If you are in Oracle 10g Regular Expressions do it nicely:
    UPDATE t1 SET c1 = REGEXP_REPLACE(c1, '[[:space:]]');
    This will remove any character considered 'space' and includes all those you listed. It also has the benefit of being portable across character sets (EBCDIC) and languages (other languages have their own space characters).

  • My photoshop CC has suddenly stopped importing images and twain imprt too

    Hi I have a subscription to creative cloud. My photoshop cc has stopped importing images.
    When I try to bring an imagin into a PS layer PS suddenly quits on me. I windows message
    comes up saying PS will now close.  What to do?
    Upgrade to 2015 or reinstall? Or what...
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Two things to try:
    Reset Preferences  Hold down Ctrl-Shift-Alt while starting Photoshop and say yes to the reset.
    If that doesn't work, Uninstall/Clean/Reinstall.
    Use the CC Cleaner here. Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
    It will delete any corrupt files or registry errors that the uninstaller missed, and then you can re-install.

  • Import Image and Transparency

    I am importing an image (GIF) with transparency properties as a drop zone. How do i make the background of this image transparent. This image serves no purpose other than just being an image. It is not a button or has any associated actions.
    Please help - Thanks

    Don't use GIF, use TIFF instead. This will preserve the transaparency.

  • Saving image and layer separately with transparent background

    I have a photo with a layer and I am trying to save two images (main photo and layer) with transparent background. I am able to save the  main photo with transparent background but somehow not able to save the layer with transparent background despite selecting the option while saving as PNG. Any help will be appreciated?

    OK... I'm probably not being clear.
    When I import the PDF, I get a typical architect's line drawing as shown below. So the background is displaying as white. In Corel, when you save a GIF or a PNG, you can specify that -everything- that is the 'background colour' is rendered as transparent. IOW: there's no need to erase the 'white' pixels; they are auto-magically converted to transparent.
    But in PS (CS4), no matter what I try, the rendered PNG or GIFs show as white, rather than transparent.
    Is there a way to have this same behaviour in PS? Or do I first have to use the erase or background erase tools to get rid of the white?

  • Captured & imported image, and driver package not going to DP

    I have an image I've imported and even though I've selected "Distribute Content" manually it does not go to DP.   I checked everything I could think of (making sure DP was set to service the boundary group, etc.), but it still won't go.
    In status, it says "in process".
    Question - do I need image/properties/package share settings "copy the content in this package to a package share on distribution points" selected to enable this image to be sent to the DP?
    Under Distribution Settings - do I need to select "Distribute the content for this package to a preferred DP..." and any recommendations on if this should be sent to Automatically, Download only changes, or Manual?
    Similarly, I also noticed my Driver Package had also not been sent to the DP, so my question applies to that as well.  After creation, do these settings need to be selected?
    Thank you
    Nathan

    Hi,
    The reason why this happens is a combination of the following two reasons:
    - You enabled for prestaged content in the distribution point.
    - Go to the properties of the image, on the "Distribution Settings" tab the radio button is set to "Manually copy this content to the distribution point".
    Enabling the prestaging option on a DP will tell the DP to not receive content automatically. It is waiting until an administrator copied *.pkgx files manually to it and registers them using extractcontent.exe. That might be useful for DPs at the end of very
    small WAN links.
