Imported images distorted/pixelated

Hi,
I am importing images (PSD and JPG) that are crystal clear in photoshop, but when I import them to InDesign, they appear and print pixelated and don't have the same clarity as in photoshop.  Can anyone give me advice?

I've found that relying on scaling in InDesign can occasionally be wonky when you apply a great deal of scaling (as you have) to a raster image. Do the scaling in Photoshop to get it to the size/resolution you need, and place that next to the image you've scaled in ID to see if it's any better.

  • Need help for school! Imported images suddenly pixelated (CS6, Windows)

    Hi guys,
    Adobe InDesign CS6 Windows I'm a frequent user of InDesign, but I now suddenly am facing problems. Note: I use InDesign not only for print material, but also for creating PDF. I therefore do not necessarily need 300 dpi. Before: copy + paste from Photoshop or even web images into InDesign used to work. The images looked fine on screen and while printing. Now, when I import or copy + paste, all images look pixelated at 100%, high quality and overprint preview. It looks like InDesign is importing images 25% larger than their original size. If I resize the imported image to 75%, the image looks normal. 100% is always pixelated now! Did I mess up some sort op setting? I never had this problem before. Please help me, need this for school assignment!
    Thanks in advance,
    Justin

    First of all, thank you for your reply. I just checked an example image and both are 72 dpi, in InDesign as well as in Photoshop. I even created a document for web in InDesign, using the 'web' & digital publishing option (which is 72 dpi) and placed the same image. At 100% pixelated, when resizing to 75% crisp. I don't know what to do..
    The thing is.. I've never had this problem for years.. with importing images. Did I change settings or?
    First one is Photoshop, second in InDesign (top left is import at 100%, bottom right is import resized to 75%). In case images are too small to see, full size: http://justinwust.com/photoshop.jpg & http://justinwust.com/indesign.jpg

  • ISight Import : image distorted...

    Hello all,
    I'm simply trying to import a short feed from my iSight into iMovie HD.
    During the recording, the aspect ratio is "normal" (4/3 i think - the whole viewing window is full)
    But when I read the clip, it is verticaly "reduced" (looks like 16:9) and everything is out of proportion (wider)
    Anybody has an idea ?
    Thanks

    What is the file format of the vector you downloaded?  Custom Shapes have a .PSP extension, and are placed according to this table.
    Preference filenames and locations in Photoshop CC
    They will then be loadable from the Custom Shapes drop down — click on the cog icon > Load shape > Find your downloaded vector.
    Once placed in the image, it will appear as a Shape layer, and can be edited with the Path, and Direct Selection tools (black and white arrows on the toolbar)

  • How do I get non-pixelated quality for imported image?

    I want to import a high quality image from Photoshop into Final Cut Express 4.0 and be able to watch the clip
    on fullscreen without loosing too much quality. The quality decreases to a very pixelated version of my image
    and does not look good at all. Any suggestions?

    Exactly what is the image -  TIFF?  JPEG?  PNG?  Something else?
    What is the image size (pixel dimensions)?
    What are your sequence settings in FCE?
    FCE prefers JPEG images, and ones that do not require a huge amount of scaling to fit into the video frame.  Keep in mind that a video frame is 720x480 (DV-NTSC), 720x576 (DV-PAL), 1280x720 (HD), 1920x1080 (HD), or 1440x1080 (HDV non-square pixels).  You don't need much more resolution than that to get a good video image.

  • Unpredicted image distortion and Pixel Bender support

    Hi!
    I'm running my very simple Pixel Bender filter that replaces colors around the image (inverts pixels). Running on various graphic cards I got sometimes unpredictable results (FP10, Flash), when running this filter on a big number of images (image sizes are 1000x200 pixels).
    Images got distorted - the example is included.
    I can't find the exact case when it happens, but I think it may somehow connected with GPU drivers. Sometimes I got a correct image, and sometimes not on the same graphic card.
    Is there a way to force a filter to use CPU instead of GPU? And is there a function in Flex to detect if the Pixel Bender is supported on a current graphic card and turn it off?

    Sorry, I was a bit wrong describing what's happening. I'm running an AIR application (on Windows).
    I'm running a filter on BitmapData with applyFilter (checking if it is not null, before the run). The image size is about 1000x200 or 2000x200. There are about 300 images which are processed in a loop. Here's a piece of my code:
                    var invertColorShader:Shader = new Shader(new InvertColorKernel() );
                    var invertColorFilter:ShaderFilter = new ShaderFilter( invertColorShader );
                    var point: Point = new Point(0,0);
                    for (var i:Number=0;i<_imagesArrayCollection.source.length;i++)
                            bitmapData = (_imagesArrayCollection.source[i].imageBitmap as Bitmap).bitmapData;
                            if (bitmapData != null && bitmapData.width>0)
                                bitmapData.applyFilter(bitmapData, rect, point, invertColorFilter);
    Some times people running my application experience the unpredicted images distortions I have shown above. The configurations range from desktop computers to notebooks , and the above behaviour is random, still cannot find the exact case.
    Is there a way in AIR to find if Pixel Bender uses GPU or CPU and force it to switch?

  • Automatic scaling of imported images in timeline.

    I am working in a HD 1280x1080 timeline, and I am importing images (jpgs, tiffs and PSDs) into the timeline, but they are getting scaled automatically, which is not what I want.
    I am aware of the pixel-apect issue- what I would like if for the images to appear at 100% of their original size in the time line.
    Any one know how this can be accomplished?
    Thanks.

    I think the automatic scaling is a "feature" of FCP ... it does save time in most instances. But for your situation, place the images in the Timeline, double-click one of them to load it into the Viewer. Click on the Motion tab and change the scale value to 100% and the aspect ratio (under the Distort control) to 0 if needed. Next, right-click on the image in the Timeline you just adjusted and choose 'Copy.' Then select all other images in the Timeline, right-click on one and select "Paste Attributes" from the contextual menu. When the Paste Attributes window opens, select 'Basic Motion' and 'Distort' then click OK.

  • Imported Image Resolution

    I know there is a simple fix to this, but I'm stumped. When I'm importing images into Ill CS3, their resolution is always poor. I've tried upping the doc raster effects settings, trying different file types, etc. What am I missing?

    >I created a 300 x 300 pixel image in Photoshop at 300 ppi resolution, 8 bit (RGB). When I place this image in Illustrator, it is tiny and the Transform palette tells me it is 72 x 72 pixels.
    Illustrator is not a raster-based application. Vector-based programs do not create documents with any intrinsic resolution. As such, Illustrator honors placed image
    i size.
    When you use pixels as the document unit, Illustrator assumes 72 pixels to the inch for the purposes of Web work.
    A 300 x 300 pixel image saved at 300 ppi sizes to 1" square, and that
    i size
    is what Illustrator assumes you want. If you use pixels as your unit of measure, the ruler, transform palette, etc., will show the placed image as having dimensions of 72 x 72 pixels, and if you Save For Web, you will, in fact, get a downsampled image with those pixel dimensions.
    If you were creating a layout for press output, you'd bring your images in after sizing them appropriately in Photoshop. You might use 240ppi or 300ppi, but what's important is the
    i size.
    Since Illustrator documents have no inherent resolution (ppi), it's the
    i size
    that is maintained.
    >When I draw a 300 x 300 pixel square in Illustrator, the square is the size I expect the placed image to be.
    Then save your image at 72, not 300, ppi.

  • CS6 InDesign - Default display is high-quality. Four placed images are Illustrator files. Three images look the way they should - high-quality. One image looks pixelated. Why?

    InDesign CS6 - Default display is high-quality. All four placed images are Illustrator files. Three images look the way they should - high-quality. One image looks pixelated. Why?

    Not sure if this will help, but what is your inDesign file's "Transparency Blend Space" set to? It's under the edit menu.
    Also, when you are placing your images, are you selecting "Show Import Options" and making any selections there?

  • Fuji X10 raw image distorted

    Adobe raw for the fuji X10 outputs a distorted image, the image is also cropped horizontally.
    When opening a X10 raw file (.RAF) in adobe raw, the following unexpected results:
    about 3% is cropped from horizontal field of view (symmetrical, both sides)
    the image is then "stretched" to fit the horizontal resolution
    the status indicates a dimension of 6144 x 4608 pixels (the open dialog showed 4000 x 3000)
    the image is stored as 6144 x 4608 pixels
    Attached are 2 images, 1 converted by the camera, the other by adobe raw.
    Converted by camera:
    Converted by adobe raw (version 6.6.0.261):
    I find this quite annoying. Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks.

    You are right!
    Somewhere in the raw process with both silky and ACR converters pixels at each side are discarded. The pixels of about 1 cm of the yardstick (see picture) are not used. The camera's converter does utilise these pixels, BUT squeezes the image to a 0.96 : 1 ratio. This ratio is 1:1 longer focal lengths, the "pixel loss" is then nearly 0.
    The pixels might not be output to the raw file or are discarded by the convertors. Perhaps this is done because of quality degradation of corner pixels / coverage at short focal lengths. I'll test to see if it is also related to aperture. NOT an adobe raw issue I should say.
    Lower half of image: more pixels at the sides with jpg from camera
    Image is squeezed when processed by camera
    Original image, 28mm, F2.0

  • Help with Crop of Imported Images - Please!

    If I crop a jpeg that I have imported from my camera, then apply a crop, the cropped image will fill the screen. However, if I import a jpeg from iPhoto or any other source (desktop, folder, etc.) and apply a crop, the cropped image will be small and does not fill the screen.
    There must be some setting that will make the resultant view of a crop from an imported jpeg fill the screen similar to the behavior of a typical camera imported image. This is driving me nuts and I've spent hours trying to figure it out.
    I realize the actual crop in either case is smaller, but I just want to view it as large as possible. There must be some hidden zoom control for imported images?
    Please help!

    Unless something is broken - doubtful - your images from "other sources" are too small to fill the screen from a dimension standpoint when they are cropped. What you are seeing is the cropped image at 100% view - meaning that's it that's all the pixels you've got.

  • Vector image distortion upon resize in Adobe Illustrator CS6

    I am experiencing image distortion with vector shapes or outlined letters with scale down. Shift + Alt + Click locks in the proportions of the image as a whole but what happens is individual letters/shapes become distorted resulting in a completely different look. Does anyone know what is wrong?

    Check if "align to pixel grid" is turned on.

  • Adjusting max import size: total pixel size VS 10000x10000 max (for panoramas)

    1.1 has been an amazing update. However, I found out there is a 10,000 pixel limit width and height. While I understand the reason for this (a 10,000 x 10,000 pixel image is huge) I create a lot of panoramics. Most are imported, but some exceed the 10,000 pixel limit on one side only (example: width) while the hight is a mere ~1800 pixels.
    Is there a way to adjust the import function so that it can import images that might be panoramics at 10000-20000 pixels but not as tall, so that I do not have to keep copies of my originals and crop down to 10,000 on one side?

  • Importing images into Flash

    I am importing images into Flash only to discover that the images (1280 x 720) are not centered on the stage.  Most of the time the images are off centre by a few pixel widths or in some cases by an inch or more.   I can't get them to centre unless I clear the stage and import a few times.
    Is there a way to import and have the images framed perfectly within the stage.
    I'm currently using Flash CS5.5
    Thank you.

    You can also click the two blue boxes icon under the Timeline and then drag select the whole timeline and that will let you select all your frames at once. then just position them all where you want them at the same time. I attached a screen cap of the area I'm talking about. It's right after the two white boxes.

  • Importing images created in PS to ID

    Help! I'm an InDesign beginner and I just cant figure this one out.
    I created a logo in PS and imported it to ID. The logo was saved in PSD format at 300ppi. It seemed fine while working on ID. However when I exported the PDF file, the logo came out very pixelated.
    I tried other formats (TIF, JPEG, PNG) and different resolutions and sizes. Nothing worked. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? Is there a secret to importing images from Photoshop?
    Thanks!

    Is the logo really vector objects? Save as Photoshop PDF to keep them from being rasterized in ID (or rebuild in Illustrator, which is a vector program). If the logo is raster by nature, have you scaled it in ID? What is the Effective PPI value when you select it and look inthe Info panel? Waht settings did you use to export the PDF?
