Imported images from my iPhone became corrupted after importing.

I Imported images from my iPhone and they became corrupted after importing. They appeared fine just after import, so I unfortunately erased my phone. When I reopened the aperture project where they were stored they had streaks, some were only partially visible, and others had no image just an exclaimation point with the words "incompatible file". thanks in advance for any suggestions or help.

What you describe are very typical symptoms: You import; the images look to be o.k.; you go ahead and delete them. The problem is that during the import you only see the previews created by your camera, not the actual images you are importing. When you afterwards try to edit or to enlarge the images Aperture will recreate its own, better previews and needs to access the original master image files. If Aperture cannot find the master image files or cannot open them, you may see warnings (unsupported) or corrupted thumbnails. Only then you will notice if the images have been imported correctly, and that may be too late, if you deleted the images from your camera.
How did you import? Are the imported master image files managed or referenced, i.e. included in the Aperture Library or referenced outside?
I'd suggest you look directly at the master image files to check if they are o.k. and can be read by other applications.
If your master image files are managed you'll find the images in the Aperture Library by right-clicking the Aperture Library package and selecting "Show Package Contents". Then Browse the folder "Masters". The master image files are stored in subfolders organized by the date of the import session.
If your master image files are referenced, open the folder where you told Aperture to move them to.
Check for two things:
Have all your images really been imported?
What is the  format and the state of the images? Try to open the images with Preview, or any other image editor you have and check if they really are corrupted, or if only Aperture has a problem to access them.
If all your images are there, but Aperture cannot access them, your Aperture library may need fixing.
Back up your Aperture library (just a precaution) and use the Aperture Library First Aid Tools to repair the permissions or/and to repair the database; see this section of the Aperture 3 User Manual on how to do that: Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library
If repairing and rebuilding did not help, but you found the original masters and can read them, then copy them to a location outside Aperture and try to convert them to another file format with Preview or another application that can read them. Then try again to import those files to Aperture.
Post back, if you have more questions.
Good Luck

  • Imported files from SD card, became corrupted

I just imported 400 photos from my SD card; I could see them import, and they showed up. So, of course, I deleted them. Stupid. I've never had issues before.  Now they are all showing up in iPhoto as a random picture from a year ago. When I click on each picture, I can see the actual picture I took, but in the Events view, they show up as this other random pic, and the file shows an exclamation point in a triangle. I can't figure out what happened on the import. I can see the picture files if I look in my Macintosh HD folder, but I can't import the files again from there. Nor can I do anything with the files in iPhoto. am I just screwed because I deleted the pictures from the SD card?

I can see the picture files if I look in my Macintosh HD folder, but I can't import the files again from there.
If you see them on your Macintosh HD, copy them (don't move them) to another folder outside your iPhoto Library to have a backup copy. Check, if they are o.k. by inspecting them in Preview.
Make a backup copy of your iPhoto Library as it is now. Then try, if iPhoto is working at all by creating a new iPhoto library: What is your iPhoto library? If it is iPhoto '11 Launch iPhoto with the options-key ⌥ held down and select to create a new library. Name it differently from your old library.
Import some photos. Does it work correctly?
If yes,  try to rebuild your iPhoto library using iPhoto's library first aid tools, one after the other:
Repair permissions, repair database, rebuild database. To use the First Aid Tools launch iPhoto wih the ⌥⌘ keys firmly held down; then try the first aid options.
Make sure you have a backup of your library, before you try to repair this way.
If you cannot recover your photos this way, download iPhoto Library Manager
iPhoto library manager has a rebuild function; see Terence Devlin's post here on how to use it: Re: Iphoto has Stopped working
    Regards

P.S. As you have noticed, it is not recommended to let any application delete the images from the card. Even after checking if the import was o.k. it is better to use the camera to erase the card. The camera knows the file system on the card better than any external app.

  • Aperture fails to import images from an iPhone

Since I upgraded to Aperture 2.1.4 aperture has stopped being able to import from my iPhone.
I get shown 3 empty frames ie pictures with nothing in them. Importing results in a message "Import from Capture Card Completed with Errors"
In console I see 7/09/09 9:39:52 AM Aperture[19686] NSScanner: nil string argument
Deleting all photos from the phone and still the same problem persists. That is Aperture still shows 3 blank frames and results in the same error.
    Other cards are fine.
Other programs like PhoneView can see all of the pictures on the iPhone and can download them.
There must be some magic that can resolve the problem but so far I have failed to find it.

same problem here. Aperture not recognizing iPhone 3GS photo.

  • How to import images from iPhone 5 into Lightroom 4?

After a recent iTunes software update, I can't import images from my iPhone 5 into Lightroom 4.  Now Lightroom doesn't even recognize that the iPhone is connected, nor does the Finder, which explains why I can't choose it as an import source.  Instead the iPhone only shows up in iTunes when connected.  Surely someone else has run into this issue.  Any known solutions/suggestions/work-arounds?

  • Imported images from iphone are unsupported in aperture?

When I try to import images from my iphone into aperture, they come in as gray boxes. When I click on these I get a message that the file format is unsupported. Anyone else running into this?!

Also, I tried image capture and tried to open the jpg's in preview. This also didn't work and said the format is unsupported. Photoshop gives the following message:
Could not complete your request because a JPEG marker segment length is too short (the file may be truncated or incomplete).

  • I can't import photos from my iPhone

Okay:  I have Lion, I have iOS 5.  I have the latest version of iPhoto.  However, When I open iPhoto and have my phone unlocked, I am no longer automatically presented with images from my camera roll ready for import.  Nothing happens.
How can I get my mac to see my iphone so that I can import images from my iphone?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hi Daniel!
I have an article here that can help explain how to do this through a couple of methods on your new MacBook Pro:
iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
Specifically, these are the instructions relevant to your situation:
    If you have a Mac
You can import pictures from your iOS device using iPhoto (if installed):
Connect the device to your computer. iPhoto should automatically launch into its import window with your device's images and videos listed.
Note: If iPhoto does not automatically open, you may wish to enable the behavior.
Click Import All. If you want only some of your images imported, select the images and videos you would like to import into iPhoto, then click the Import Selected button.
When the photos finish importing, you will be presented with a dialog asking whether you'd like to delete the original photos from your Camera Roll. Click Delete Photos.
Note: Deleting photos after importing helps to reduce Camera Roll size, and it improves backup and restore times. You may choose Keep Photos if you wish to import the photos to additional computers.
If you do not have iPhoto installed on your computer, you can import pictures from the device using Image Capture:
Connect the iOS device to the computer.
If Image Capture does not open automatically, you can navigate to your Applications folder and open Image Capture from there.
Choose the location to which you'd like to import pictures.
    Click Options.
Click the Options tab if it isn't already selected.
Enable the option "Delete items from camera after downloading".
Note: Deleting photos after importing helps to reduce Camera Roll size, and it improves backup and restore times. You may choose Keep Photos if you wish to import the photos to additional computers.
    Click OK.
    Click Download All.
Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

  • Trouble importing images from Canon EOS to iPhoto

When I returned from my daughter's wedding with about 400 irreplacable photos I discovered that I could not import photos from my Canon EOS to iPhoto on my iMac.  When I initially connect my camera to the computer the images display perfectly. However, when I click "import all" the downloaded images all appear completely blank (gray).  I don't have any difficulty importing images from my iPhone.

I have had a similar experience with a few greyed out images I did not bother too much because it was not important at the time. I was wondering if you could save them into another format or file and then try importing them from there.

  • Can't import photos from my iPhone into iLife '08 after upgrade to 10.5.1

I can't import photos from my iPhone into iLife '08 anymore after upgrade to 10.5.1.
It used to work great...now this. Sad, sad, sad I am.
I tried the "FIX" of refreshing phone and sync history, but it DID NOT WORK for me. HELP!
    Please help, somebody.
    Saint Podoreo

I have the exact same issue, but with a standard IMAP account and SMTP.  My iPhone can send out, using the EXACT same settings, from the exact same WiFi connection...but the 10.8 MacBook cannot send at all.  The only account I can send out on is my iCloud account.
I have also tried all the steps above...no luck.
I have also turned off all network filters and firewalls...no luck.  (And as I said above, my iPhone is on the exact same WiFi connection and using the exact same settings, and it can send fine.)
Other messages I've found via Google have suggested simply forcing the SMTP server to use Port 25, but that didn't work for me either.

  • How do I import images from my hard drive without losing resolution? My original files after import are significantly smaller. What should I do?

How do I import images from my hard drive without losing resolution? My original files after import are significantly smaller. What should I do?

Hi Keith, and all others chiming in, I do have the correct option checked in advanced settings telling iPhoto to copy the images into the library. What is a refernced library? Perhaps this is where I am getting confused. I exported my entire photo library from an old iMac5 to my external hard drive, from there I attempted to import the entire library to my new iMac. Am I overlooking an obvious and easy way to import from the hard drive to the new iMac--I dragged the entire photo pholder from the hard drive to the open window of iPhoto on the new computer. Now, I only get preview file sizes in iPhoto, unless I have my external drive open. Perhaps I need to import the original images from the hard drive in a different way...?! (This is making me feel pretty stupid.)

  • After importing images from my card using LR 5.4, the GPS data does not show in the metadata panel. However, when I look at the imported images using Bridge, the GPS data is visible. Anybody know why LR is not seeing the GPS data? Camera is Canon 6D.

After importing images from my card using LR 5.4, the GPS data does not show in the metadata panel. However, when I look at the imported images using Bridge, the GPS data is visible. Anybody know why LR is not seeing the GPS data? Camera is Canon 6D.

Ok, the issue seem to be solved. The problem was this:
The many hundred files (raw and xmp per image) have been downloaded by ftp in no specific order. Means - a couple of files in the download queue - both raw and xmps. Most of the time, the small xmp files have been finished loading first and hence the "last change date" of these xmp files was OLDER than the "last change date" of the raw file - Lightroom then seem to ignore the existence of the xmp file and does not read it during import.(a minute is enough to run into the problem)
By simply using the ftp client in a way that all large raw files get downloaded first followed by the xmp files, we achieved that all "last changed dates" of the xmp files are NEWER than the related raw files. (at least not older)
And then LR is reading them and all metadata information has been set / read correctly.
    So this is solved.

  • Aperture does not recognize that there are images to be imported on an SD card. My workaround is to copy the images from the ST card to a folder and then import the images from the folder. Aperture also imports incredibly slowly after the update to 3.4

Aperture does not recognize that there are images to be imported on an SD card. My workaround is to copy the images from the SD card to a folder and then import the images from the folder. Aperture also imports incredibly slowly after the update to 3.4

Check your Import settings in the Import Panel, i.e. all that might exclude the image type you want to import:
If you did not exclude any file types, and still Aperture will not import, remove your ImageCapture preferences fro your user library:
To remove the image capture preferences:
If Aperture is running, quit Aperture,  and log off and on again.
Open your user library from the Finder's Go menu: Hit Command Shift G (⌘⇧G) and then type in: ~/Library/Preferences/  then hit return.
In the window that opens remove "com.apple.ImageCapture.plist"
and look into the subfolder "ByHost": if there are files named com.apple.ImageCapture  something .plist  remove them too.
    then try again.
And if that still does not help, remove the Aperture preferences as well:
    ~/Library/Preferences/aperture.plist
    Regards
    Léonie
P.S. in MacOS Lion and later the user library ~/Library is hidden by default.
You can reveal it also  from the Finder's "Go" menu:
Finder > Go,   then hold down the options ⌥ key, until the Library appears in the drop-down menu, select it and open the Library folder. Then go to the "Preferences".

  • Photos corrupted after importing using iPhoto

I recently imported 50 images from my iPhone 5 using iPhoto 9.4.3. After imported and selected "Remove imported photos", all my remaining photos & videos became unrecognized format (see image below). They look like that in iPhoto too. When I tried to import them, it says "Unrecognizable Files". I viewed my phone in iTunes and see that both Photos and Videos still take up half the storage. It says 17 photos 10.3 GB when rollovers. Strange..
PLEASE HELP! I do not have any back up on iCloud and iTunes

Should update to iPhoto 9.5.1 on your Mac

  • Files get corrupted after import-export

    Hi
After exporting images from HTML DB 2.0 and importing them some of the files are corrupted after import.
This has happened with one .js file and with one .pdf file.
All the other (including some PDF-s) are correct.
The "File Character Set" specified on import is correct and there are no other parameters I can change.
If I look the contents of corrupted files it seems that another file has been pasted at the end of the original file.
    What could be wrong?

    Hello,
Any news on this ? I have the same (reproducable) problem with a .js file.
Uploading works fine, but when I try to download it again, the contents of another file seems to have been appended at the end. The file also doesn't work when I try to include it using #WORKSPACE_IMAGES#...js
