Imported images have poor colors

Friends,
I'm a new user to Motion 5 having what I hope is an easily-solved problem.  I want to create an animated image sequence.  The images were originally created and stored in Aperture.  Because I understand that Motion does not permit import from Aperture, I exported the images to a folder as full-size .jpgs.  I then imported them into Motion.
Unfortunately, they did not import well.  They are of a lower resolution and the colors are off.  What am i doing wrong?
If it matters, I'm using the late-2009 imac with mountain lion.
Thanks!
Steve

JPG is a *lossy* compression format. You probably exported the images with compression. Many applications start JPG compression at about 70% and if you weren't paying attention to that detail, the images may suffer loss of quality (actually the DO suffer loss of quality, it's just not always that perceptible... until "later").
Image formats that are lossless:
PNG
TIFF
PSD
possibly a few others, but my favorite one is PNG with PSDs a close second (so I don't care.)
Also, if by "lower resolution" you mean smaller in size, there's a Preference to regulate how Motion imports large images. On the Project pane of preferences, at the bottom: Large Stills > select Do Nothing. Motion will import the images at full "resolution" (that's an overloaded term— in programming parlance). You'll have to manually scale or fit them into your "scenes".

  • Imported images with poor quality

    Hello,
why when I import images from Photoshop into InDesign project, do they lose quality ?
    thanks

    Ha!
Well, it's also worth noting that InDesign, by default, displays lower quality previews of the images when they are placed (to speed up processing and display). You can view the full resolution images by going to View > Overprint Preview, or by changing the options in View > Display Performance.

  • Iphone 4S photo import image corruption creates "color lines"

Ever since I got the Iphone 4S, it's been corrupting my pictures occasionally during import. It's sad, because I usually have it set to delete the image after importing, so the uncorrupted image is lost forever. Below is an example of how the import destroyed a really nice picture of our newborn baby.
I'm running snow leopard, with iphone version 5.1. Originally I was using iphoto to do the import, but I read somewhere that image capture might fix this problem. But the problem still occurs even with image capture. Sometimes there are multiple "color lines" through the picture, although the one below only has one. Also, sometimes the image doesn't just change color across the line. It can also become misaligned, so tweaking the color isn't enough.
I'm not sure about this, but I think the problem may occur more frequently when I have a lot of apps sharing CPU. So I suspect it's a bug related to context switching. I'm not sure whether snow leopard or the iphone is the problem, although I don't remember it occuring with my older iphone 4.
I have noticed the problem tends to occur in batches of consecutive photos, which is why I think it has to do with memory swapping due to concurrent applications.
Does anyone have suggestions how to fix this problem?
    Thanks
    Justin

Sorry, I'm not a Mac user, but I found this for you: http://www.macxdvd.com/mac-dvd-video-converter-how-to/mount-iphone-as-hard-disk- drive.htm
I'm reasonably sure it will solve the problem, but not 100% sure.  It can't hurt to try.  You could also close other apps on your Mac when you do copy the pix.  Finally, you could try copying them to a friend's PC - which you would have to do manually (a piece of cake on a PC).

  • Imported images have jagged edges when scaled down

Perhaps I'm missing something really obvious (like the quality thing in the After Effects timeline), but I imported a Photoshop image, a logo, scaled it down to 15%, and it has jagged edges. Ditto for a TIFF version of same. Starting resolution is plenty large.

You can adjust the apparent size of the image in the "media" tab of the property inspector. Select the photo in the media bin (not the layer in the timeline), then the media tab in the insepctor.
try reducing the size of the image to the size you are scaling it to (of course, you'll have to adjust the scale property of objects in the timeline which use that image). for example, if the image is 1000px wide, and you're scaling it 15%, then adjust the media size to 150px and restore the scale to 100%.
YMMV but it's worked well for me. sometimes adding a slight gaussian blur helps (<.25). it would be more effective to scale in an image editing app (like photoshop) to the desired size, but this is more flexible.

  • Imported images have stretched smart previews

I see these stretched smart previews after importing some photos, about 3000 photo's.
And they arent rotated. After waiting for about 10 seconds the previews onm my screen change to normal.
I first imported them with build smart previews off and also on.
How can I force LR to update them or someting like that?
    Thanks,
    Ludo

I get about 1 G SP per K of photos. In other words, 1000 Photos (which consumes about 10GB on disk) have 1GB of smart previews. Most are raw but some jpeg. So here's one data point: ~10%.
So from my limited experience 16% seems high, but 5% may be an exageration by people trying to "sell" the smart preview enhancement - dunno.
Number of raw vs. jpeg files will be a significant factor, but I haven't done the math so...
One thing to try is experiment: make one-photo catalogs with different images, so you can see exactly how many bytes are the smart preview corresponding to each photo - maybe you'll find a pattern...
Also worth noting what type of raws you have. Such will be a factor, but again: I haven't done the math..

  • Imported images have edges?

I am importing a giff image that I masked in Photoshop and no
matter what I do it has a white edge on it once it comes over.
What's the deal? Anyone know a fix?

Try saving it out as a PNG file. Make sure the image has
transparency in photoshop before importing to Flash.

  • When importing images into LR5 on my laptop, the photos all have a wide yellow streak through them. This only happens on the laptop; I can import the images onto my desktop LR and there isn't the streak of colour.   Can someone help?

When importing images into LR5 on my laptop, the photos all have a wide yellow streak through them. This only happens on the laptop; I can import the images onto my desktop LR and there isn't the streak of colour.   Can someone help?
This is happening even with photos that were taken on another camera, not just mine.  My daughter told me that the laptop recently fell.  The yellow streak is not anywhere else on the laptop, just on the photos in LR.

I have had this problem on my desktop.  I have been attempting to reproduce it where it can be debugged. Here are some observations/facts in my environment--no conclusions:
    1. I do not import from camera or memory stick directly into LR.  I copy all images (using Explorer) from camera to two different locations (backup location first); and then my working area. In both cases, after files are copied I mark them Read-only.
    2. Poor observation, but in any event: the issue has only occurred when I do a large number of images. Its a poor observation as I have no exact number.  I suspect when I do less than 50 always works well every time.  However, I have also done some very large imports without issue.
    3. Error only occurs with my RAW images--for me that's NEF.  I have multiple cameras--those that only capture jpg images have never had an issue in LR.
    4. Even if the file is marked Read Only issues can still occur.  I then remove the image from the disk using LR -- and then manually (Explorer) copy in my backup image -- re import again and all is well.  I think one time I exited LR and replaced the bad file with a backup and restarted LR and all was well again.
    5. When it occurs I have performed a HASH value on the broken file and on the backed up file to determine if the file contents has changed--and each time the file contents has changed.
    6. I have had this occur immediately after import, but most often it occurs like this... import large number of images; Make changes in Development Module on random image, export jpg of changes--exit LR. Open up LR and file is corrupted.
    7. I have had this issue on multiple USB drives ( okay just 2 different drives have been tested ).
What next--fire up Process Monitor and monitor the system (specifically LR) to see if it reports any file open for write access when this occurs.  So, far I have not had process monitor actually running when it occurs--one of these days.

  • Lightroom 5.6 crashes when images with some color profiles are in import

I am a recent subscriber to Adobe CC. I run LR 5.6 64bit on my Win 7 PC. Whenever I seek to import images previously processed in iPhoto or LR elements into my catalog, ACC Lightrom crashes. I suspect it is because the original editing program used a different color profile. Adobe techs will not give me an answer when I ask for an overall cure. Are their any technical documents on the web that would enable me to deal with this issue? If so, I cannot find them, and I do not want to call Adobe again and again to get LR 5.6 restored.

There is no difference selected or not, the photos (Import are not possible) are always grey with the notice: These photos would be already imported! All other photos could be imported and gets grey.
When Lightroom greys out a photo in the Import dialog box, it means the photo is already in the catalog. It doesn't mean that it is matched with an older photo with the same name ... in order for there to be a match, the file name and capture date and file size must be identical.
So Lightroom thinks you have already imported the photos, and you think the photos have not been imported. Now I'm sure you are a very nice person, but I believe Lightroom. What you need to do is to find the photos in your Library Module and use them there. The photos can be found by searching for them by file name, after turning off all filters, and after clicking on All PHotographs in the Library Module.

  • Automatically have motion trace a line drawing over an imported image?

I was wondering if there is any way for motion to automatically follow the path of a line of a drawing that I imported from photoshop so that I could make this image appear to draw on? It would seem sensible that the program have some way of selecting a particular color (the way you can do that in photoshop) and then create a line path out of that to replace the imported image so write on effects or anything else could then be applied. Anyone have thoughts on this?

It'd be nice, but there currently isn't a way to turn a bitmap into a path... you can key a color, but that's about it...

  • Is there a way to import images that have been edited and assign them to the original?

I am transitioning to mac and aperture. Is there a way to import images that have been edited and assign them to the original? I have 10,000 originals and about 2,000 edited images. The originals are named img_XXXX and anything modified img_XXXX_modified. I would like to be able to import the originals and then import the edited versions and assign them to the original masters. Instead of starting from here and going forward with 12,000 masters, some of which are actual originals and others not. Thanks for the help.

Ah, the vestiges of a destructive workflow! Once you "get" Aperture, (specifically Masters and Versions) you are going to love it, as all of this work goes away - the relationship that you seek to retain is automatic in Aperture; it is simply done differently.
The short answer to your question is EVERY image file that is Imported into Aperture will create a new Master and one Version. Assuming that your images are PSD/TIFF/JPEG that you created in something like Photoshop, then each one that your import will be a new Master. You have many options:
-- Stick the originals in one Project(s) and the edited versions in another Project(s).
-- Stick them all in the same Project(s) and "Stack" them.
But here is the real question: Why are you doing all of this work and what are you trying to accomplish? Seems you are trying to preserve old things that don't need preserving in a non-destructive workflow.
So, what is most valuable to you?
-- The original, out of camera files? (That is, the fear/need to revert.)
-- The edited versions? (That is the hours of work that it took you to get there.)
If the former, import the originals and ignore the edited versions. (Either simply leave them out on disk or import them into their own Projects which you ignore.) Use Aperture to recreate the work you had done previously. This will always give you the ability to revert to the original Master and create as many Versions as you want. This is the best idea if your edits are relatively simple crops and exposure adjustments,
If the latter, then import the edited versions and do as above with the originals. This makes more sense if your work uses lots of layers and, perhaps lots of clone tool type corrections.
Of course, you can do a bit of both.
Others may have better suggestions, but you will find it easy to answer your own question when you understand an image based, as opposed to a file based, non-destructive workflow.
    Good luck!

  • After Import in LR 4.2 all images have development modifications

When I import images no matter if RAW or JPG, when I go to the development module all images have various modifications on all slidedrs from exposure to saturation.  I haven't changed any settings or global settings but each slider will already be modified.  Previously when importing images all sliders were set to ZERO, but now all of those sliders are anywhere from - to + modification.  Can someone please help?
LR 4.2, Windows 7 64-bit, 24GB ram, Catalog has been optimized, Develop Settings and Metadata setting are set to none on import.
    Thanks,
    Curtis

First thing to check is the Presets Tab of the Lightroom Preferences to make sure that "Apply auto tone adjustments" is NOT checked. If it's checked, uncheck it and try importing again.
If that setting is NOT checked, then perhaps you've inadvertently changed the default develop settings.....to check this take one of the adjusted images into the Develop module, then press and hold the Shift key. The Reset button at bottom right of the screen will change to "Reset (Adobe)"....click on it and see if the sliders revert to zero. If they do, you need to reset the default develop settings....Menu Bar>Develop>Set Default Settings, then click on "Restore Adobe Default Settings".

  • I can't import images when I have video on the same card.

I can't import images when I have video on the same card. I am using Lightroom 5.6 and OS 10.9.4 I found a work around, but was wondering if there is something that fixes that issue.
Thanks in advance for any help. Angy

Thanks.  The carrier is Verizon.  My new phone has a Verizon Sim card.  I can't find any evidence of that on the old one.

  • Can I import images from DVD to my HDD through bridge (I have Win 7

    Hi,
I'm using Win 7 (and also have Bridge on Mac OS X). I'd like to import images from DVD to my HDD through Adobe Bridge. But I can't find the option to import from DVD in Bridge (either in Win 7 or Mac). My DVD drive on my Win machine is external while I have the regular internal DVD drive on my Macbook Pro. I'm trying to import images from DVD to HDD through Bridge. Go through the first round of select/reject through Bridge and then take them to LR for further edits.
I currently copy them from DVD drive to a USB pen drive. And then using the Bridge import dialog (when I plug in the USB again) copy them to my HDD. I do this becuase I also need to batch rename my files, add metadata and keywords during import. The simple copy/move function won't allow these additions and so I have to resort to this workaround of DVD to USB to HDD (thru Bridge). If I can import directly from DVD through bridge, it'll save me quite some time.
    Look forward to assistance pls.
    Thx,
    Chinmoy

I feel a bit silly now. For 2 days I struggled and then posted my Q.
After posting the Q, I figured it out in about 15 minutes.
    Insert DVD.
    Open Br
    Navigate to DVD
    Select all images
    Right Click - Batch Rename
Choose Destination Path and New file name.
    And go!
If you've had the same problem I did, hope this helps.
