Imported mailboxes disappeared
Help!
Want to start using MAIL..imported messages from Entourage...everything imported and showed up. When I restared program...everything was gone. Went to Home>Library>Mail>Local-(null)@(null)>Import>Inbox and everything seems to be there...but nothing is visable within MAIL.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I'm on a PBG4 running 10.4.3 MacOS
The Import folder that contains all imported mailboxes from Entourage should be within and at the first level within the Mailboxes folder.
Quit Mail first and move the Import folder (which contains all imported mailboxes) from within the Local-(null)@(null) > Inbox folder to the first level within the Mailboxes folder at Home > Library > Mail > Mailboxes.
After doing so, delete the Local-(null)@(null) folder which is not required.
After doing so, it should be as follows.
Home > Library > Mail > Mailboxes > Import > Deleted Items.mbox, Drafts.mbox, Inbox.mbox, Sent Items.mbox.
Launch Mail and this should allow access to the imported mailboxes and allow you to use the Rebuild Mailboxes function on the imported mailboxes.

Emails in local mailboxes disappearing
I have a POP account and I'm accessing it only from one machine, my G5 dual 2GHz with 8GB RAM. Since I switched over from Eudora over the weekend, Mail.app has caused no end of headaches for me.
Occasionally, emails stored in various "On My Mac" local mailboxes have seen fit to just vanish, leaving what looks like a blank mailbox. Rebuilding the mailbox doesn't work. On the occasions that the emails do show up as a list, when I click on any individual email, it displays the infamous "The message from <Name> <[email protected]> concerning <Subject> has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it." message (which shouldn't be happening since the emails are already stored locally on my hard drive--this is a POP account after all and nobody has access to it but me and I'm only using one machine to access it). I have to re-import the emails using Mail.app's built-in menu option to do so. I cannot use the "remove the Envelope Index" trick because, in total, I have in excess of 560,000 emails in over 460 mailboxes that I need access to when searching for emails on a certain topic and having Mail.app reindex everything takes something close to 5 hours. I cannot be down for 5 hours. I have already run "Repair Permissions" using Disk Utility and have gotten a clean bill of health.
Is there anything I can do to make sure that my locally-stored emails just display their contents and not give me the dreaded " The message from <Name> <[email protected]> concerning <Subject> has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it." message or just display blank mailbox(es) and not have to rebuild the damned thing(s) all the time? Why is Mail.app so fragile anyway? I've used Eudora for decades in POP mode and have never experienced the problems that Mail.app has given me in a mere weekend.
PowerMac G5 dual 2GHz & MacBook Pro Core Duo Mac OS X (10.4.9)The recommended mailbox size limit for Tiger Mail is
2GB. Do any of 460 mailboxes approach or exceed this
limit?
I thought this artificial limit was removed after Panther? You're saying that it still exists? I sort my mailboxes by years so they are stored in this hierarchy:
<Topic> (contains current messages about <Topic>)
- <Topic>-200x (contains messages about <Topic> in year 200x so there could be many mailboxes at this level; when 2007 ends, I will have a <Topic>-2007 mailbox which I will move all email about this topic into, leaving the <Topic> mailbox only containing current emails for the year on that topic)
Now, this 2GB limit, is it just for the *.mbox folder or for just the Messages folder or for any hierarchy? When I do a "du -k" in some of my hierarchically filed mail, e.g., ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/Apple Lists, I get this:

Which, as you can see, totals out to around 1.26GB for the ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/Apple Lists hierarchy and none of the individual .mbox or Messages folders exceeds 2GB. And some of the above folders have been the ones exhibiting the vanishing emails (i.e., they are there when I look at something once and then they are gone the next time I try to look again in those mailboxes). I've even experienced the disappearing mailbox phenomenon in mailbox hierarchies which, in total, do not exceed 500MB for all subfolders.
The "has not been downloaded from the server" error
message is not accurate and indicates what is called
an "overstuffed" mailbox issue which means the
mailbox has approached or exceeded the recommended
size limit or the mailbox has some corruption.
Oh crap. Sigh. I never had this issue with Eudora which has a 32767 email limit regardless of size of individual emails, attachments, etc.
Using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail. All
imported mailboxes are located within an Import named
folder located within the Mailboxes folder - Home >
Library > Mail > Mailboxes > Import > imported
mailboxes - which appear as folders at the Finder
level and include an .mbox extension.
Within any .mbox folder at the Finder level is a
Messages folder (which contains each message stored
in the mailbox as a separate .emix file) and an
Info.plist file. Any other folders and file names are
left over from the import process which are not
needed by Tiger Mail but are not deleted after the
import process is complete and can sometimes cause
problems.
Does "Rebuild" delete the Info.plist and recreate it?
There is also a Eudora mailbox cleaner utility which
may be helpful here.
Yes, this is what I used to bring my mailboxes over from Eudora. It doesn't work very well and I'm in contact with the developer who has given me a beta to try and it's a little better.
Do you sleep? ;~)
Rarely. I sometimes get by on 4 hours a night.
This can be done before you go to bed which will be
completed in the morning when you wake.
I was assuming that the "Remove Envelope Index" trick was to be used when in dire need, not a nightly event. Are you saying that it should be a nightly event? Sometimes it doesn't even complete, leaving some mailboxes in the same state as outlined in my original post, whereupon I have to do the "Import Mailboxes from Apple Mail" trick from within Mail.app itself but this gets old fast since I have to move the contents from the Import(-x) hierarchy to its "proper" place in my mail hierarchy and then wait for it to "rebuild" which takes a while but nowhere as long as 5 hours. Maybe 20 to 30 minutes. But multiply that by a couple of mailboxes and my day is shot.

Nokia E72: Urgent:Mailbox disappears when 'memory ...
Hello Nokia,
I had set up my corporate email account on my phone. Bydefault it uses Phone Memory for storing all messages. I tried to change the Memory In Use in option by selecting 'Memory Card'
Messaging->Settings->Other->Memory In Use->Memory Card
After this change my corporate mailbox disappears and I no longer see the mailbox. However when I change the setting back to 'Phone Memory', The mailbox appears. Is this a bug or normal function ?
Also is there a way I can transfer all my email messages currently on the phone memory to memory card ?
Do I need set up the email again after changing the memory setting? Is that the only way out ?
Appreciate quick response as I am worried about my phone memory getting used up fully.
Thanks
VenksYes it goes, you have to setup email once again when you change the storage to memory card there is no way to transfer the mails stored in the phone memory to card. If you are dealing with some important mails its better to store them on the phone memory, if ur memory card gets corrupted or unusable it would be difficult or no way to get those mails back, also you make sure u delete unwanted mails when u use phone memory as it may eat up phone's memory making it slow and lagging its better to maintain some considerable amount of space in the phone.
If a reply has solved your problem click Accept as solution button, doing it will help others know the solution. Thanks. -
Mail hangs , mailboxes disappear
My mail has been hanging up several times a day. The mailboxes disappear and the application hangs. When I force quit it comes back as good as new until the next time it hangs. I noticed this happening before with the mobileme sync. I turned that off and it seemed to solve the problem but now it has returned and mobileme is not set to sync. Any ideas?
You may have to reimport the mailboxes. Try this
1. Go to ~/Library/Preferences, and trash the com.apple.mail.plist. (don't empty the trash yet). Restart.
2. Restart Mail, and Import From Mailboxes. Navigate to the ~/Library/Mail folder, and look for your accounts. They will start with "POP" or "IMAP". Import each one. Move the mailboxes out from the "Imported" folder. -
Mailboxes disappeared from list
Let preface here by noting that I upgraded to Mountain Lion just a couple of weeks ago. However I only noticed this problem today so I don'y know if one thing had anything to do with the other.
I've long had archive mailboxes from past years in my Mailbox list. Every January I would make a new archive of the previous year's emails. But I just looked up and realized the archive mailboxes were gone from the mailbox list but I have no idea when that happened. Fortunately I dug around my hard drive and found the mailboxes are still in the Library but I can't figure out how to get them displayed again in the Mailbox list.
Thoughts?I had the disappearing mailbox problem after I updated the software on my iPhone when it was plugged into the computer. Three important mailboxes, and their contents, disappeared on Mail, although they continued to exist on the iPhone. They mailboxes did not exist in the Library either. I eventually solved the problem by accident, by deleting and reinstalling my Gmail account on Mail. Maybe this will help…..

Importing mailboxes from Entourage to Mail
When I import mailboxes from Microsoft Entourage (Office 2004 for Mac) the boxes (sometimes) duplicate. Both boxes show content but when I try to read an individual message it is blank - no text.
When I reconstruct a box all the content disappears totally. If I try to suppress one of a set of duplicated boxes both are suppressed : firstly hey reappear as empty white/grey boxes and when I suppress those they disappear totally!
Some imported photos are monocolour (green expanses!)
Is anyone having similar problems importing from Entourage or am I doing something stupid? I follow all instructions carefully!
All help/tips gratefully accepted as I want to go 100% Mac but not lose years of records!

How can I import mailboxes from Eudora to my new POP Mail account?
Good afternoon!
I have 10.4.11 on my Mac Mini and want to transfer my mail service from Eudora to Mail. I opened a POP account, but when I tried to import mailboxes from the Eudora Folder stored in Documents I got an Error message: No valid Eudora files were found.
I know the mailbox folder is in the Eudora Folder in Documents, so why can't Mail find it?I'm not sure if you need Eudora Mailbox Cleaner, but you might take a look at it.

Hi,
I'm looking for a PowerShell script which will import a Calendar events into student's mailbox (Calendar). Those students are located in a distribution group and I would like to target the distribution group; I'm trying to simulate what I want to achieve
in the below code example, I would appreciate if anyone jump in and advise.
$Users = Import-Csv C:\users.csv | ForEach-Object{Get-DistributionGroup -Identity SC-1213} | Import-Mailbox -Identity $Users -PSTFolderPath c:\Calendar.pst -IncludeFolders '\Calendar' -StartDate -EndDate
Much appreciated..
HussainThe logic doesn't work unless you are using StartDate and EndDate for the period when you change the item. As I said above, StartDate and EndDate are not the times when the meeting starts and ends - they are the times that the item was either added
or modified in the mailbox. Your filter was trying to pull items that were in the future.
And as I also said above, if you import a modified item, the original is
not going to be updated. You will have a duplicate meeting
on the calendar. You would have to remove the original
and import the updated item if this was how you wished to manage the updates. This is not nearly as effective as
sending meeting requests and updating those meetings.
For example, if we do things the way you are doing them, and we add a "Student Appreciation Bonfire" meeting to the calendar for April 12 at "The Quad", we would do the following:
On February 1, you get information for the meeting that needs to be imported
You create this new meeting in the PST calendar - "Student Appreciation Bonfire"; Date April 12, start 8:00 AM, end 12:00 noon; Location The Quad
You import the PST into everyone's calendar
You receive a note on March 12 saying the venue has changed to The River Beach, so you update this meeting in your PST
Since there are other calendar items in the PST, you import the update using StartDate of March 12 and EndDate of March 13 - the date that you changed the item, not the date the item occurs
At this point, all users have two meetings on their calendar - the original and the update
If, instead of doing it this way, you create a Student Actvities Calendar mailbox, you would handle it this way:
On February 1, you get information for the meeting that needs to be imported
You create this new meeting in the Corporate calendar - "Student Appreciation Bonfire"; Date April 12, start 8:00 AM, end 12:00 noon; Location The Quad
You invite everyone to the meeting
You receive a note on March 12 saying the venue has changed to The River Beach, so you update this meeting in that calendar and send out the update
At this point, all users have only the one meeting on their calendar - the update
Using the PST as the source for the meetings would work only for items that
will not be changed - holidays are a good example. -
In 'mail', after importing mailboxes the process gets stuck on '1619 of 72826' and 'time remaining' climbs infinitely. Please suggest a solution.
I converted my mail boxes from POP to imap for the purpose of syncing all my devices. I backed up my mail boxes and further more perfomed a timemachine backup.
Upon restoring ther mailboxes, either by manually copying them to the mailboxes folder, and restoring a timemachine backup, both pocesses result in the above problem.
Please recomend a solution.

Mail stops importing mailboxes after Time Machine restore
Hello,
I replaced the hard drive in my MacBook Pro by a solid state drive (Crucial M4 512Gb) hard drive.
Before installing it, I let Time Machine backup my complete hard drive to an external USB hard drive (backup done over night).
I installed the SSD, booted the MacBook in recovery mode (CMD R), initialised the SSD using Disk Utility and restored the complete hard drive from the Time Machine Backup.
Everything fine except for Mac Mail.
If I start Mac Mail: it wants to import my mailboxes.
However, it stops at:
Importing mailbox
Imported 1112 of 1124 messages
Time remaining: Less than a minute
Then the fan comes up (high CPU load) and nothing happens.
If I cancel, the fan speed drops and Mail quits.
If I start Mail again, it reports one message less to import, thus:
Importing mailbox
Imported 1111 of 1123 messages
Time remaining: Less than a minute
I can repeat this (everytime the number of mail messages drops by one).
Problem is that I can't start using Mail until the messages are completely imported.
Anyone a tip what's going wrong and how to solve it?
As extra info: I made the Time Machine backups with nothing started on my MacBook (only Finder running).
Kind regards,
emeu1I downloaded the mailbfr and ran
mailbfr -f
mailbfr -o
They seemed to execute fine, although the output did instruct me to login as root, which I assume is expected.
When I logged back in as the standard administrator I took a look at the log files. I see this:

"Import Mailboxes" can't see IMAP inbox in backup Mail folder
So, a friend of mine thought he'd be efficient and, via the webmail interface, deleted all the messages in the Inboxes of two IMAP accounts (hosted by Fatcow). He did not understand that this would delete all the messages in the inboxes on his computer, too. He understands IMAP better now that we've had a talk!*
We have a backup copy of his ~Library/Mail folder, and I thought it would be a piece of cake to use Import Mailboxes to reimport those missing messages back into Mail, from where he could drag them back into the Inboxes in the cloud. Being a Mac consultant, I have done this very thing many times.
However, no matter what we do, the Import Mailboxes dialog will not offer those two inboxes in the list of mailboxes to choose from. We see all the other boxes, including two inactive POP accounts. When we look inside the backup Mail folder in the Finder, we can open the IMAP folder for each account and burrow down to the actual messages. The hierarchy there is kind of too deep, perhaps because the IMAP Path Prefix in his account preferences is incorrect--one of the accounts has the final Inbox with the messages inside another Inbox folder inside the IMAP account folder**. This is the only reason I can think of that Import Mailboxes would not be able to see those inboxes. Does anyone know if it would work if I moved the final Inbox folder higher up in the hierarchy?
Thanks very much for any assistance.
*Please don't ask why he wasn't using Time Machine. He will be, very soon.
**I can't reproduce it exactly here because I was working with him over a LogMeIn connection, as he's in another state. Geographically speaking, not emotionally.in finder rename the backup imap inbox from INBOX.imapmbox to INBOX.mbox. then Mail will let you import it if you choose it directly when importing mail.

Can't import mailboxes into Mail
I am trying to import my mailboxes into Mail from my time machine backup but it doesn't work. The backup is from 10.5 and I am now on 10.7. I can't access the old computer I only have time machine. I would also like to import my Address Book contacts. Any tips? Thanks
Restore the mailboxes to a different location, such as the Desktop, and import them into Mail (File > Import Mailboxes...) I haven't tried this myself and I don't know for sure that it will work.

Photos imported, folders disappeared
I'm using LR3.2 and imported pictures into LR catalog and copied the pictures into my external HD.
I've done this exactly the same way for every import I've completed in LR.
The imported folder shows up on the folders panel in the Library module, everything is absolutely fine.
Upon exiting LR and restarting it, the folders are gone, they do not show up at all as a folder in the folders panel.
The strange thing is that under "All Photographs", the pics are all there. When I look for my files in OSX Finder, they are there as well, in the physical folders which LR copied them to. Same thing happened for every shoot I've imported since then, the folders show up in the panel on first import, then disappear upon restarting LR.
I really don't understand what's going on, I've done this exactly the same way I've imported pictures from day one.
I'd be very appreciative if someone could help.
Thanks everyone.
Christopher.Hi,
I'm experiencing the same issue - just started happening recently (after latest update?) - I import my photos as normal to an internal hdd. Evertything appears fine and they show in the library in my usual import folder (sudivided by date as per setup). I do some processing, call it a day, exit and when I start up next the folders are no longer listed in the library!?
The files are still somewhere in the catalog as I can find them using the previous import shortcut or by looking down from the parent folder (containing all 2010 images) but the folder created during the import is gone! Checking in explorer (Win 7) I can confirm that the folders are still in place it's just Lightroom 3 which seems to have misplaced them....
This is really annoying and synchronising the parent folder doesn't help as it considers the pictures to still be there. Bizzarely if I try and create a replacment folder I get a "the name X is already taken, please choose a different name" so lightroom seems to think it's there but won't display it!
Doesn't appear to be an incorrect catalog issue as I've checked the correct one is loading on startup.
Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated. -
New Smart Mailboxes Disappear (again & again)
There are two smart mailboxes setup in the "Mail" application on my desktop Mac ("All Mail" & "Newspaper"). These mailboxes also exist on my laptop. On my desktop, I deleted the "Newspaper" mail box and created several new smart mailboxes. The next time I looked, the new mailboxes "self-deleted" and restored the "Newspaper" mailbox. I tried this several times with the same result. I then created a new smart mailbox on the laptop and deleted the "newspaper" mail box. Same thing happed; the new mailbox disappears and ther "newspaper" mailbox returns.
I use use IMAP with my Gmail account and forward my "iCloud" mail to my Gmail account. The "Mail" setting is "checked" in my iCloud system settings (but not sure what impact that has on my setup). I thought this setting may allow the smart mailboxes to synchronize between the Mac and possibly my iPhone. I am using OS X 10.9.3. I recently returned to mac "Mail" after several years of simply using the Gmail web interface on the Mac (plus iOS Mail) and am a bit unclear how the iCloud sync should work. I am pretty happy with the newer IMAP capabilities after using POP in the past.
Any suggestions on how I can create (and keep) my smart mailboxes?
Thanks,
DaveWHAT DIDNT WORK for me:
I have the problem, but I never had Docs & Data switched on, so Sheppard's solution does not apply for my case (there are no such files as mentioned there). Neither did Beda's move work for me. Causing fresh copies of the two files he mentioned to be created does bring back the Smart Mailbox category and a default Today smart mailbox, but putting the original files back in position, puts the problem back to square one -- no smartmailboxes appear.
WHAT DID WORK for me:
What I found worked was moving smartmailbox specifications from SmartMailboxes.plist into a clean SyncedSmartMailboxes.plist file.
Steps: (This procedure requires something that enables you to open and edit plist files (e.g. Xcode). As always, keep safeties of everything before you mess around.)
0) Before starting, check this file and confirm your smart mailbox specifications are actually still in there. If not, this won't work.
~/Library/Mail/V2/SmartMailboxes.plist
1) Taking a tip from Beda, move the following files out and then launch Mail and quit it, to force creation of new copies of these files.
~/Library/Mail/V2/SmartMailboxesLocalProperties.plist
~/Library/Mail/V2/SyncedSmartMailboxes.plist
2 ) Open the new SyncedMailboxes.plist. It contains a single item (a default Today smartmailbox specification). Delete that.
3) Open your SmartMailboxes.plist. It contains a sublist called 'mailboxes' where all your smart mailbox specifications reside. Copy each of these items over to (the top level of) SyncedMailboxes.plist. You have to do this one at a time if you are using Xcode, because there is no multiple selection available.
4) Save and close SyncedMailboxes.plist (and close any other plists for good measure).
5) Launch Mail and your smart mailboxes should be back.
Hope it works for you as it did for me. -
After editing a project, my imported files disappear.
After editing a project, my imported files disappear. White page with yellow triangle alert. Instructions say I need to relink my files, but I can't find that option anywhere. Version 10.0. Using OS X 10.9.2
Can I share and export from the 10.1.1 Trial? My son downloaded the original for me under his apple id, I don't know what his password was so I can't upgrade. He was killed a couple years ago so I don't have anyway to recover it. But I'm working on a project that I need to get out right away. Figured I'd try the new version before I buy it. I clicked to upload to youtube, but can't tell if it's doing anything or not.
