Imported Mailboxes from Mail, but Emails Didn't Import

I am upgrading from a Mac with OS X 10.3.9 to a faster Mac with OS X 10.4.8. In doing so, I'm trying to get my Mail emails from one computer to another. I went to LIBRARY / MAIL / MAILBOXES on the old computer and copied that folder into the same spot on the new computer. Then, in Mail, I:
• selected FILE / IMPORT MAILBOXES
• checked "Mail for Mac OS X"
• found the appropriate mailboxes in LIBRARY / MAIL / MAILBOXES
• had them all checked to import, and
• seleced "Choose"
This successfully imported all of the mailboxes. Unfortunately, it didn't import any of the emails. I saw on another posting that a bug in Mail causes the LIBRARY / MAIL / MAILBOXES folder to sometimes be a file rather than a folder, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. Any thoughts about how to get all of my emails imported?

Not sure what the problem is, but you did it wrong. You shouldn’t have moved the mailboxes to be imported into ~/Library/Mail/. Why did you do that? Actually, you shouldn’t have tinkered with the contents of ~/Library/Mail/ at all, amongst other reasons because ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/ is precisely where Mail would create the mailboxes resulting from the import.
Quit Mail, move the Mailboxes folder out of ~/Library/Mail/ (e.g. to the Desktop), and start over, i.e. import the Mailboxes folder that’s now on the Desktop and post back with your observations -- you may want to get rid first of any unnecessary folders that Mail may have created there.

Well, the title says it all : I inadvertently removed the junk mailbox from Mail.app in SL,
it still is spresent in my ~/library/mail folder, how can I recreate / restore it in mail.app ?
Since I have a fair number of email accounts, intelligent mailboxes, rules and archive folder, I really don't want to rebuild everything. And, no, I can't use time machine to restore it.

Hi AdamKB, sorry for late follow-up.
What I lost is the "container" that groups all junk mailboxes in one place in Mail, like is done for all the inboxes.
The problem is that I lost visibility on all junk mailboxes. It is only a visibility problem because the junk mailboxes are still present locally for my POP accounts and remotely for may IMAP accounts, I justdon't see them anymore in Mail's interface.

What exactly happens when you try to sync?
Does iTunes see the iPod?
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?
Do the songs play in iTunes?
Does any media now sync to the iPod?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?

Couldn't send e-mails from Mail, but could from Mailbox

I travel to different countries with my iPhone, and I've never had any problems sending e-mails from Mail for iOS . . . until recently.
On a recent trip to Germany, I could receive e-mails and surf the Web, but I couldn't send e-mails from Mail. I searched for a solution on the Web and tried everything I found, but nothing worked. Then I tried putting my iCloud settings in Mailbox for iOS and it worked fine. I could receive and also send, with no problems.
Any ideas about why I had the problem and why it worked with Mailbox? I'm hoping to avoid this problem in the future!

I have tried taking this account online by first taking all accounts offline then taking them all online but it won't go. My other gmail accounts are all online and working normally. It's just my one iCloud account that is having problems. hmm...

Browser not connecting after returning from sleep, but email and imessage working fine

My Browsers are not able to access the Internet after returning from sleep. This effects other browsers (Firefox & Chrome) as well. The connectivity from mail and iMessage is working fine. I am also hardwired and not using WiFi.

I have the same problem since updating to Yosemite, works fine after restarting but once it goes in to sleep it affects email as well as browsers, I have a broadband connection. Also accessing the app store is hit and miss, it's either working or simply not not working.
It also affects other devices trying to connect to the internet over wifi via the airport time capsule, the problems started after installing Yosemite.

I have several email account setup on iphone. for one of them can receive from/to emails from phone, but emails sent from computer not received on phone. phone shows receiving but does not come thru

I have iphone 4s with several email accounts set up. For one of these accounts, and only one, test emails sent from phone come thru fine. But computer generated mail doesn't come to phone. If you can send e-mail when on WiFi from home, but not when on 3G, that indicates your email provider is blocking e-mail being sent from outside their network. This is done to control Spam. ISPs who do this will usually have a separate SMTP server that should be used when using a mobile device. Check with them again.

I have many messages from years gone by on my mac in mail. It would be useful to be able to refer to them on my iphone while on the move. I am gettign all my new messages from my pop server, but I would like to import certain mailboxes of old messages. Is that possible?

Yes you can. How to: Right click on that song, click on get info, click on Artwork. From there, you can upload any album artwork. Its all up to you.

Received emails are being deleted from Mail but still showing on webmail!!

Hey people! I wonder if anyone can help?
I hope i'm not missing something really easy here. A couple of weeks ago i thought i was deleting emails from my inbox and then from my trash with no problems and then imagine my surprise when i get a message saying that my mailbox is almost full and i can't receive any messages.
I promptly logged on to a webmail site and entered my details and was greeted with every single email i have received since i got my new mac!! I have rebuilt mailboxes to no real effect and was just wondering if anyone can offer a solution? After all i don't really want to keep having to log on to webmail to delete all my items every few weeks.
Just to add, my email account is with BT and is NOT a .mac account!

Is the account a POP type account?
If so, go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Advanced tab for the account preferences, is "Remove copy from server" selected? If yes, what is the setting below?
I use "Right Away" for my POP accounts.

I followed the instructions to import favourites from IE but it didn't work. What did I do wrong?

All I get is a folder called "links from the united kingdom" containing three more folders which are the first second and fifth in my IE favourites list.

Incomplete importing sometimes happens (example of past thread: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/835144 Only 1/3rd of my bookmarks imported from IE. How do I move the rest?]). Could be related to the number/depth of folders, but I'm not sure whether anyone has definitely identified the cause(s).
For best results, export from IE to an intermediate file, which is in HTML format. Then import that file into Firefox. It will be a folder on the Bookmarks Menu, and you can use the Organizer/Library dialog to rearrange them the way you want them.

How to stop mailbox from automatically deleting email in trash

I would like to be able to store deleted emails indefinitely until I empty the trash mailbox. Even though I check "never" in the mailbox behavior, it only keeps the messages for 30 days.

To add to what Glenn has said, note that I have done exactly what you want to do in Mail for some time without seeing messages older than 30 days get deleted. So I think you've got something else that's deleting those messages.
One other note: it's very easy to accidentally empty the trash and lose all those messages. So I would recommend cleaning out the trash periodically and moving those messages to some kind of archival mailbox(es). I keep a series of "On My Mac" mailboxes called "Trash 2012," "Trash 2011," "Trash 2010," etc, and I periodically move all messages from the trash into the appropriate mailbox.

Deleted account from Mail but messages remain on hard drive

I am trying to clear space on my old macbook before passing it off to my wife. I am running Maverick. In mail I deleted 5 of 6 mail accounts I had. But when I ran Grand Perspective, all GBs of the stored emails from those accounts are still there. How do I get rid of them? 3 accounts were Gmail. All were IMAP.

Create a clone on an external disk with either SuperDuper or CCC. Then erase your old MacBook, re-install the system. Then, the first time you boot in Setup Assistant, you'll be prompted to migrate. Migrate from the clone and only choose to migrate Applications.
