Imported MP4 clip from my HD will not thumbnail

I created a new project then imported an MP4 clip from my HD as a new event but it does not thumbnail. When the event is selected the event window says "video not found" The same clip playsjust fine on Quicktime. I tried closing iMovie and reopening to no avail. I also tried deleting and reimporting. It still says video not found and I cannot drag the event into the project window.

I have the same camera, and I have imported mp4 videos at 30p successfully into iMovie 9.09.
However, I'm running Mavericks (10.9.1), and I pull the SDHC card from the camera and plug it into the slot in the back of the Mac. I did consider importing directly from the camera, but to do that you have to put the camera into Playback mode, select the AVCHD playback, and only then connect to the Mac via USB; if the camera doesn't give you dire warnings after the USB connection, iMovie won't be able to import anything: See http://www.amazon.com/review/R2KMTEI2HV1E8M/ref=cm_srch_res_rtr_alt_1 The camera import dialog in iMovie 9.09 has a dropdown menu at the bottom of the dialog on the left allowing you to choose the AVCHD or MP4 selections from the camera.
I'm now moving to iMovie 10 which while it has its problems and editing is not very intutitive, is much faster at importing from the camera and exporting the edited movie. I use mChapters from the App Store to add chapters to the exported movie (after changing the exported file suffix from mp4 to m4v in the Finder). So for my purposes, I can pretty much use iMovie 10 for the same applications as I did with 9.09.
As suggested earlier on this Thread, upgrading to Mavericks and at least iMovie 9.09 will likely allow you to use your camera as you wish. iMoive 10 will give you expanded options with the camera.

There have been many issues reported with Kodak cameras - serach the forums for them
Actually the best practise is to use a card reader to import your photos, verify that they are imported ocrrectly and wait at least one backup cycle and then use the camera's format command to reformat the card and erase it - this assures no lost photos and always having the card properly formatted

I don't want to import video clips from iPhoto!

iMovie automatically imports video clips from iPhoto, and I don't need or want this to be done. I don't want to delete or move those clips from iPhoto, so is there a way to prevent the automatic transfer?

Go to your Hotmail account on the web (NOT in mail), make a new folder (or folders) for the mail you want to keep and move the messages into it.
Mail (and all other email clients) will download all messages in the inbox unless previously downloaded. That means downloaded with the client you are attaching now.
Until that is done do not setup the account in mail.

Importing video clips from iMac

Hi all,
I've just purchased a new iPhone 4 and can't seem to be able to import video clips from iPhoto onto the phone. Is there a particular format the files need to be or do I need another app or converter?

However it is a PIA to get it to work.
In very un-Apple-like fashion, it is a several step, unintuitive process that requires another program. Luckily a free program...
1. Convert your file with Handbrake (http://handbrake.fr/) and use the iPad profile. (P.S. My original .mov file needed to be converted to work on iPad. The built-in "Create iPad or Apple TV version" function in iTunes would not work for me. I received a "The video is already in the correct format" message. Annoying...)
2. Put the converted file into a folder
3. With your iPad connected to your computer, go to iTunes and select the "Photos" tab on your iPad.
4. IN the "Sync Photos From:" drop down box choose "Select folder" and select the folder that contains your video.
5. Check the "Include Videos" check box.
6. Hit the "Sync" button
7. Now the video will be available in Keynote. No desktop version required...
P.S. I am a PC... Not a Mac.

Import video clip from DVD

Can anyone help me learn what I need to import video clips from my family video DVD's? I created the DVD's from tapes through Pinnacle Studio 8 (before becoming a Mac fan).

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
My personal choice would be to edit them to a compatible format such as DV, you can do this with mpegstreamclip (free) provided you have the QT mpeg2 playback component installed (think it's $30), there are other third party software solutions, no doubt others will have their favourites.

Camera records clips as 1080i format but when I import them to iMovie '09 quality are cr*p. I have a same problem with iMovie '08. This has something to do with interlacing and single field processing but is there any workaround (other than using PC)?

Preview playback may not be too good since QuickTime in general doesn't seem to deinterlace very well (when it deinterlaces at all).
Quality of exported footage varies greatly according to whether or not you select +just the right+ export settings. See this thread for details:

I'm planning to update this guide soonish with information on how to end up with 720p60 output from 1080i60 input (i.e. in effect treat the input as 1920x540 at 60 frames/sec progressive, turning it into 1280x720 at 60 frames/set progressive).

Imovie started to show this after I tried to import the movie from the finder, but from the camera it is OK.

MP4 crated in CC LR will not play all the way through.

I created an MP4 on CC LR that will not play all the way through on my web site. When I play it on our site it shows the first three images (there are a total of 26) and then starts over and yet when I play it from my Desktop it works perfectly. I have tried that setting but then the whole show is messed up, some pictures freeze and some just zip through. If i only choose one song it will repeat for the entire show, if I pick 3 songs only 2 will play and the rest of the show is silent.

When songs cannot be found, it's either because they have been moved from the original location that you told iTunes, renamed or deleted.
So have you:
renamed songs?
moved them to a different loaction on your computer since you imported them into itunes?
deleted them since you imported them?
stored you iTunes library on an external drive? If so, that drive needs to be on and ready every time before you start iTunes.
... or is another programme renaming or even moving them, such as Windows Media Player? (It has been known to if you let it.) Did you previously use Windows Media Player?

Sounds like you may have a harddrive issue. You are probably going to need to get that changed out and then install the OS X again to get it going.

You need to keep the keys pressed for several seconds. Close down Elements. Hold down the CtrlShiftAlt keys and simultaneously click on the Edit button on the welcome screen. Release the three keys and look behind the welcome screen by closing it. Or hold down the keys whilst clicking on the desktop icon for the Editor or PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe in the Programs folder. Keep holding down all three keys until you get the settings option. You should see a pop up box with the words: Delete Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File?Click on YesThen wait whilst Elements rebuilds the preferences. Problem with importing a clip from another iMovie project

Hello
I want to import a clip from one iMovie project to another iMovie project.
Both projects are in 16:9, but when I import a clip it's no longer in 16:9.
The clip is croped and I have a black bar on the right and left side.
How can I solve this ?

Have you tried Copying the clip in Project A and Pasting it into Project B?

Yes - email & text work fine but when I use something like Google Images or search a blog with imbedded photos I get the empty white boxes with question marks. If I click the question mark it opens the photo but I can't possibly do that for EVERY image on EVERY page I search!?!?! I've rebooted the iPad & my wireless card several times but neither action helped. Have any clue what I should do now?
