Imported mpeg videos change resolution.

I am importing mpeg videos to the project on PP 7.2.1 (4) under Windows 7 and they seem to change resolution and aspect ratio. Not sure if there is a setting that can be changed to override the aspect ratio and resolution when importing videos to the project ? Otherwise the video plays fine despite looking a little bit strange with this new aspect ratio of 1.1851.
The original video stream is (according to mediainfo):
Format                                   : MPEG Video
Format version                           : Version 2
Format profile                           : Main@Main
Format settings, BVOP                    : Yes
Format settings, Matrix                  : Custom
Format settings, GOP                     : M=3, N=15
Duration                                 : 44s 478ms
Bit rate mode                            : Variable
Bit rate                                 : 9 071 Kbps
Maximum bit rate                         : 8 900 Kbps
Width                                    : 720 pixels
Height                                   : 480 pixels
Display aspect ratio                     : 16:9
Frame rate                               : 29.970 fps
Standard                                 : NTSC
After importing it to the project the properties are:
Type: MPEG Movie
Image Size: 540 x 480
Frame Rate: 29.97
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
Total Duration: 00:00:44:15
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.1851
Does anybody know if this can be corrected somehow?
Thank you

Thank you - I went through the tutorials and I think I am running into a different issue (at least this is how ti looks).
The original video when opened in source monitor (before importing it into the project) shows properties of:
Type: MPEG Movie
Image Size: 540 x 480
Frame Rate: 29.97
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
Total Duration: 00:00:44:15
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.1851
and this is before importing it to the project just opening it in the monitor. Not sure what to think of it the video shows everywhere as 720*460 (16:9), when I click properties in windows in various media players and in MediaInfo but for some reason PP sees it as 540*480 (1:1851).
Thank you

  • HELP!!!! Importing MPEG Video to CS3

    Well I Can't import mpeg video to cs3 how can i format my video in order to import my video?
    Every time i want to import video it says
    "File format not Supported"
    A lil help will b great
    Thanks.....

    Based on reading a LOT of problem reports, importing files from a DVD camcorder or other MPEG device, or Ripping DVD files rarely results in success in Premiere... do not be fooled by movie industry advertising into thinking that "DVD Quality Video" is suitable for EDITING... it is not... a DVD is designed to be for PLAYBACK only... and that includes trying to edit a Standard Def MPEG or VOB file!
    You should also use WAV sound files, not the compressed MP3 format, To work with AC3 files in Premiere, it MAY work to copy the ad2ac3dec.dll file from the Encore DVD directory into the Premiere directory
    Go to my notes page http://www.pacifier.com/~jtsmith/ADOBE.HTM
    Click the internal link for editing compressed files... read
    There are other products better suited to your task... but if you only have DVD type files, you should convert to DV AVI... go to the VideoHelp link in my notes and look for a program to convert... but do be aware that converting from a HIGHLY compressed viewing format back to an editing format is going to cause a drop in quality
    The only SD (Standard Def) files that Premiere really likes are DV AVI type 2

  • Having trouble importing mpeg videos from an external hard drive to iMovie or iPhoto. Keeps saying unrecognizable format. How do I get it to work?????

    I have always had a dell computer. But after the 3rd crash, we decided to throw it out and get a mac. We bought this computer a week ago. I was able to save all our family pics and videos from the dell to an external hard drive. So when I got the new Mac set up, I plugged the hard drive in and had no problem importing all our pictures. But when I tried to import our videos, I ran into some problems. We have had 3 different cameras with each having a different video format. All our videos are either avi, mpeg, or mov. All the avi videos imported successfully but the others will not. I tried importing them into imovie and iphoto and neither one will recognize the format. iphoto says unrecognizable format and imovie just completely freezes and I have to force quit.  Here is what is funny. I took the hard drive to my local store and when they hooked it up to their computer, they imported beautifully. Why won't it do the same for my brand new computer? Thanks!

  • Encore has freezes importing Mpeg video

    Hi All,
    Encore has recently started to freeze when importing M2V material, even if it was generated in Premier. I have to import the materail as AVI and let encore encode internally.
    Can someone please explain why this is happening and yes i have re-installed the package. Plus there have been no significant hardward or software changes.
    Thanks,
    Dan

    m2v is MPEG. Premiere and Encore assign the extensions for MPEG files this way:
    mpg - MPEG with multiplexed (muxed) audio and video
    m2v - MPEG-2 video only
    m1v - MPEG-1 video only
    mpa - MPEG audio only
    You can rename any of these to .mpg without any effect on the content.
    If you want to create files with the .mpg extension from Premiere Pro, you must turn on multiplexing in the Adobe Media Encoder.

  • Can't import mpeg video - not supported

    Production Premium user.
    The whole purpose of multitracking against video is useless as I've just found out Audition does not support MPEG MPEG-2.
    I went to the Apple site where I was led to believe that buying the
    QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component for Windows
    would give me a fix to the QuickTime component - nope - just wasted £15 on an add-on that doesn't work. The player opens and plays as if it were reading the file but no video (black) - and no audio. Apple, please can I have my £15 back?
    Anyone else really hacked off with this, especially having sat watching a "Senior Evangelist" gush about how great Audition is for Multitacking against video.

    Hey Steve, thanks for your reply, but not to leave you out...
    Your comment "...because I don't do video..."
    Now here's me thinking that Production Premium with Prem Pro and AE etc was geared toward video editors and video producers like me... So the inclusion of an application like Audition is aimed at a wider market. Hey Ho... Rather like Canon finding that their DSLRs could do HDV video (but not very well) but had other USPs.
    Report Back:
    <File> <Sequence... Right Click Edit Adobe Audition...Sequence> <Export without or with Preview Video>
    Defaults to AVI... AVI if left up to its own render is rubbish - pixilated and low def - especially when you're used to working in HDV. And just try undocking the video panel to a 32-inch plasma - oh no...
    Reformatting to H.264 and importing H.264 it just can't handle cross application satisfactorily. Stutter playback - in Audition - and outside using an undocked panel.
    I operate i7 hex intel 970 24GB tri channel RAM and 5 drive HDD with SSD OS on Windows 7.
    This is just not an application which can claim Multitrack mixing to video sync - okay perhaps in the DV and those early days but not now. Rather reminds me of old high-end audio console digital software - always maintained its not the the software but the user. It rather looks like you development guys just didn't think this was important - well not in the short-term.
    Not good enough for my needs. Steve - I don't know what you use Audition for but it's not professsional video applications - as you state. But thank you for replying.
    6/10, and only for the fact it tried but fell over.
    Edit: Forgot to add I'm also running Nvidia GTX580 1.5GB Video Card.

  • Imported MPEG video playback problems

    Hi,
    I have a client whose camera produces MPG video files. When she imports them into Presenter, the resulting video plays back way too fast, with no audio. If she plays the original MPG video on the desktop media player, it plays fine. Anyone with experience with this type of issue?

  • MPEG video from a Sony Hard Drive Camera and PPCS3

    I asked the questions before buying from ADOBE. The answers were yes that the video would import and that the program would do all editing for HD video from all HD cameras.
    Well anyone that has tried this knows it is a very false statement from ADOBE.
    Any way where do I go to get a codex or a filter to be able to import MPEG video into PP cs3. I know I can put it into my Premiere Elements 3 and output a AVI file but I would like to cut down the steps and time have a class of 50 that will always cause that to be a problem.
    Also how do I import AVCHD into ADOBE until they get moving and produce a patch for the program?

    Elecard promised beta version of AVCHD Plugin for Adobe Premiere to the end of the next week.
    They told me, that it will come in one package with Converter Studio AVCHD Edition.

  • How to simply import mpeg to iMovie '08

    Could someone explain step by step how to import mpeg video files into iMovie 08 please?
    Thanks

    Could someone explain step by step how to import mpeg video files into iMovie 08 please?
    Open the file in MPEG Streamclip (free) and convert to DV, AIC, M-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264. (Multiplexed compression formats like MPG, MPEG, VOB, Flash, etc. cannot be edited by the QT structure.) MPEG-1 files can be converted by the base MPEG Streamclip application. MPEG-2 files require the $20 QT MPEG-2 Playback component be installed. iSquint (free) will convert either MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 files without additional support but limits you to MPEG-4 or H.264 files. Visual Hub adds DV to what iSquint can export but is not free. Other applications like FFmpegX (donation-ware) or MPEG2 Works (pay-ware) can also be used.

  • Convert mpeg videos without changing original date

    Hi
    I'm trying to convert my mpeg videos to mp4 or other, so as i can import them to iphoto and display them in a slideshow. i want to play the videos and photos (jpegs) in the sequence they have been taken, so i would need to keep the original date and time in the file or keep somewhere the shooting date and time and have iphoto play them in this order (not the file date and time order, which possibility, by the way, i haven't found).
    I noticed that when i convert, not only the file date and time are changed to the present, but the original date and time too.
    Help is welcome.

    Unlike photos movies do not have EXIF data to tell their dates, etc so the file date is used - I do not think that batch change date and time will fix this but it is worth a try - and try changing the date/time in the info window - but again I do not have great hope for that
    Old Toad does a lot more with movies than I do - so he probably will have some ideas
    You may have to do the slide show in something other than iPhoto - iMovie - Photo Presenter http://www.boinx.com/photopresenter/overview/ - etc

  • Do different recorded slide resolutions cause an imported FLV Video to Play incorrectly?

    I’ve been working on a project involving many captivate files with flv videos inserted into slides I made the slides in Photoshop, I had the same type of project last year with the same client and had similar problems with the flv videos just not running or not running correctly, sometimes cutting off early.  This time using Captivate 4 I’m having problems with the videos playing through fine but then stopping and not continuing onto the next slide.  To even further complicate this sometimes in preview the video will play and then advance to the next slide and then after publishing the files and playing them they stop advancing and you have to select the play button to continue the presentation.
    The setup for these video slides:
    Edit the video in avid and export to After Effects.
    Process the video in AE adding titles, keying, and exporting using render cue to FLV files
    Process and Import the Photoshop slide into Captivate
    Set the properties of the PS slide to; on slide enter; continue, on slide exit; advance to next slide.
    Import the flv video at 640x480, skin = none, auto play auto rewind, Options = rest of slide, pause slide till end of video.
    What I think I found and at least it is working again is, during the recording session with the various business managers while demonstrating their applications they would sometime resize their screens, so instead of recording at 1024x768 they would stop recording and change their screen resolution to 1032x774, to complicate this even further they were all operating their software applications using remote desktops.
    I finally imported the slides into Captivate that were recorded at 1032x774 and resized them to 1024x768 during import and kept my resolution the same throughout the problem was resolved and the project played fine so far. The biggest problem I had was with a slide that fell between two slie sizes even though Captivate resized the slides on import and I resized the slide for the project resolution the Video FLV movie slide would play and then stop. I hope I’m making sense with this and I apologize if I’m not.
    Is a recorded constant screen resolution critical when editing a captivate presentation and if so why? Is there a way to correct a slide problem in hypertext to force a slide to advance, and if so what program would accomplish this.  Thanks in advance.

  • Changing Resolution of webcam video capture: The captfoss method.

    Hello,
    *'captfoss'* proposed a method to change the resolution of video captured using webcam in [this post|http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10596731#10596731] . Then I posted a working example in the same thread which used the same method to change resolution to 640x480. Here in this post I just want to post the actual method which makes the resolution ( infact format) changing possible. This method takes the DataSource and the target Format as parameters and returns true/false on the success/failure of format change. The method is as follows:
    public boolean requestCaptureFormat(Format requested_format, DataSource ds) {
            if (ds instanceof CaptureDevice) {
                FormatControl[] fcs = ((CaptureDevice) ds).getFormatControls();
                for (FormatControl fc : fcs) {
                    Format[] formats = ((FormatControl) fc).getSupportedFormats();
                    for (Format format : formats) {
                        if (requested_format.matches(format)) {
                            ((FormatControl) fc).setFormat(format);
                            return true;
            return false;
        }To know the explanation of this method in depth, please click the link of the post. I believe it would not be difficult to understand once you have read that post. Here is the link of that post again:[http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10596731#10596731].
    Using that method, I have made a small utility which allows you to capture in all the supported formats (of webcam). That is meant for demonstration only and I am going to post it in next post (maybe next 2 posts if it exceeds character limit).
    Any suggestions to improve the utility would be appreciated. I confess that it is not the best and requires improvements. But it serves its purpose, i.e. demonstration, successfully.
    Enjoy!! :-)
    Once again thanks to captfoss, I request him to post in this thread to take the 5 dukes I am going to assign to this topic ;)

    Are you using the Adjust Date and Time option or the Batch Change option?  If it's the former try the latter.  If you get the same results  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import  the same video file and check to see if the same problem persists.

  • Import MPEG-2 video into PhotoShop CS6

    Does anyone know why I can not import MPEG-2 video file into PH CS 6?

    Hi there -
    Do you have any other Adobe programs installed? Photoshop CS6 can only open MPEG-2 video files if a decoder is installed, such as Premiere Pro or After Effects.
    See this Adobe Help article for more information about supported files types in Photoshop CS6: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/supported-file-formats-photoshop-cs6.html

  • Importing as MPEG audio instead of MPEG video

    I have MPEG Movie Clip (.mpg) files from my Sony camcorder which I am trying to backup to DVD's.  When I import them some are importing as MPEG video correctly and some are appearing as MPEG audio incorectly.
    The ones showing as audio files are defienlty video files as can play them in windows media player but for some reason only the audio is being imported.
    Any ideas on why this is happening and how can be rectified.
    Thanks - please can someone help - this has been taking me ages to resolve.  The sony software is rubbish - hence using encore.

    Hi guys,
    Thanks for your prompt advice - I am using CS4 version.
    I am trying to create dvd’s from my video files which I created on my sony hard disk camcorder so that I can play them on my dvd player.  I am in UK so require PAL format.
    So I need to use Premiere Pro – is that right?.  So do I export from Premiere Pro to Encore whilst they are both open?  Can I not just create the dvd’s in Premiere Pro – I don’t need fancy menus.
    I am confused why some appear in Encore correctly as video but others as audio.  When I play the files from explorer they open in windows media player and play as a video.
    I am really new to this so apologies for the basic questions.
    Thanks
