Imported mpeg with asynchronous audio

Hello together,
i've got a little problem while creating a film for my brother.
I captured some old family videos with my video card and the software i used saved them as mpeg 2, with variable bitrate in video and constant bitrate in audio which is mp2. This video is playing properly in media player classic and vlc.
After importing one of these files i found out that audio and video are asynchronous playing in the preview video.
I looked into the elements help about this issue but there only was the hint to change the file format to avi. They do not tell which kind of avi i should use.
So, not knowing which file format to use i tried a lot with different containers, different video codecs and different audio codecs... I think it was about 20 or 25 different combinations from h263, h264, divx, xvid, flash, wmv7/8/9, mpeg2, DV, theora and so on. I used avi, mpg, mp4, mov, ogg and wmv as containers.
Half of these outputs were alreday asynchonous with the normal video playing software and the other half was asynchronous in PRE 9.
Has anyone got an idea what i could try? Is there a format combination that will work properly? Or can i change something in my source mpg to play properly?
Thanks in advance,
Norman Maehler

I did not know that it could capture to DV-AVI, but i cannot capture all files again, because its 20 hours of movie and it should be a present for my brother to his birthday which is already over... Besides i have to stay at the player because the video is quite old an broken at some times...
Next time i will try to use the DV-AVI.
But why can PRE import mpeg2 films while it cannot handle them properly? They are not asynchonous, because the can be played perfectly in sync with several media players?!
I converted one mpeg2 file to DV-AVI and imported it into PRE. There now the audio is quite good, but the video is too fast and makes some loops while playing in PRE. My media players are playing the file perfectly again...
By the way: I am using mencoder behind the Super-Gui to reencode my Video-Files if that may help?
Edit: @ nealeh It did not give me the choice for DV-AVI, because i was not recording from DV-Camcorder...
Edit2: Now with Avi container, DV-VIDEO as Video Codec and WAV-(pcm 16 little-endian) as audio codec the file is 5 times larger than before but it works

  • Mpeg with mp2 audio

I am getting ready to deliver TV spots for air via FTP, and the media house requests the video be delivered as mpeg with mp2 audio. Maybe I'm missing something, but I couldn't figure out how to do that easily through Compresser, or even through Mpeg Streamclip.
Here's what I wound up doing: I exported the spot as uncompressed Quicktime. I brought it into Compressor and encoded it as mpeg2, Best Quality and the audio as Dolby 2.0 (in the future, I'll just use AIFF). THEN I brought those files into DVDSP in order to mux them, then opened the resulting VOB in Mpeg Streamclip and converted it to mpeg with mp2 audio.
That seemed to satisfy the tech guy at the media distribution house. But there's gotta be an easier way, right? I know I'm missing something simple...

It's been a while since I've done it with MPEG Streamclip, and I'm not at my Mac right now ... but as I recall, both the audio and video files need to be in the same folder and have the same name (except for the extension). Bring the video file into MPEG Streamclip and it will automatically find the associated audio file.

  • Imported mpegs have no audio

    Hi all.
When I import mpegs into FCP I get decent video and no audio track. Any thoughts on how to correct this? I'm probably missing an easy fix, but can't figure it out.
    Thanks,
    SHC

You can't work with MPEG video in FCP.
Download [MPEG Streamclip|http://www.squared5.com] and convert the files to one of the editing codecs found in FCP's Easy Setup menu.

  • Alternatives for importing video with two audio paths.

So, I been on the Mirillis Action!(Screen Recorder) Forums and, have not found the solution. The problem is when I import the file it says its not supported.
Like you see there, so the video specs are .avi files with 2 audio paths.(Action! recorder has a feature where it records your commentary and saves it in the avi file as the second audio path) Apparently, WMP only plays the game sound, not video at all. Plus, Virtual Dub will not import it. (See second image)So I don't know how to fix this but, you guys are good at using this program! I hope you guys will find a solution soon. I'm thinking of getting some codecs, but I don't know where to start.

Someone help me find the problem it was this So, I'm all set thank you for your time.

  • MPEG with multiple audio streams

I have a dvd that has one video on it with 4 different audio options. The goal is to recreate the dvd with different menu's etc. I ripped the dvd with MPEG Streamclip. I played the ripped mpeg and it definitely contains all four audio streams. I then imported the mpeg into encore cs4 and it only shows the default audio selection, the other three are gone. I tried importing it into premier and the same thing happened. This seems like it should be pretty easy but maybe not.
    Thanks for the help,
    Kevin

    Kevin,
    First, welcome to the forum.
Next, I am shooting blind here, as I have never gone this direction. If none of this works, sorry. I only go the other way, creating what you hope to recreate.
Now, what happens if you rip the Audio in a Multi-track Audio editing program, like Adobe Audition? I would hope that it will rip each Audio stream as a stereo WAV (or as discrete WAV's if you have AC3 DD 5.1 SS). If this does work (remember, no guarantees), you should be able to separate these out, and then Import them into Encore.
I am sure that many other programs can do what Audition does, but that is my go-to Audio editor and know that it works well with both ripping from all sorts of muxed AV files, and will also handle Multi-track material.
Good luck, and please let us know if this works. Also, Neil Wilkes, a valued contributor to this forum, is the "Audio guru," and might well have better suggestions.

  • Can't import M2TS with LPCM audio. Video OK, Audio not.

I have M2TS file with H.264 1440x1080i 29.97 25Mbps CBR video stream and 2-channel LPCM Audio stream. When I import the file to Premiere or Encore, the video comes up ok, buth the audio portion sounds like static noise. If I demux the M2TS file into *.M4V video file and *.WAV audio file and import them seperately and then join on the timeline everything works just fine. Any suggestions?
Also, not sure if it's related, but the M2TS file has a choppy/blocky playback in the preview monitor. When stepping manually frame by frame everything looks OK. If I export the M2TS file, the video playback is good. I've seen other people posting about the same problem, so I assume this is a common problem and all I can do is wait for some updates, correct?
    My PC Specs: Q6600, 8GB Ram, Quadro FX580, Vista64bit

The material comes from CS4 media encoder output. This is how.
Master Source Clips: HDV 1440x1080i, 29.97
Edited in CS4 and output via media encoder to
    H.264, 1440x1080i, 29.97, Upper, High 4.1, CBR 25Mbps, LPCM, No Muxing
After the encode M4V and WAV streams muxed into M2TS via TSMuxer.
I then took the file and tried to import it to Premiere and let it conform. That's where I experience the problem.
I just tried another test. I took the original HDV project and exported via the same settings (explained above), except I've changed LPCM to AC3. This time the audio plays fine in Premiere. So it sounds like Premiere does not like LPCM inside of M2TS.
Regarding the video playback, the weird thing is that when I preview the file in premiere and it's blocky (just a little bit), my CPU utilization shows only about 20%. I would have thought that if my machine couldn't keep up it would be higher. Btw. playback of H.264 outside of Premiere is superb, also only with small CPU usage.
I generate the M2TS H.264 output for two reasons:
    1. Playback via PC and PS3
    2. Have a reasonably small and high quality backup copy of the project output. Since there is no losless HDV export, I figured H.264 export at 25Mbps is a better alternative then MPEG2 25Mbps export. I'm not considering any 3rd party plugins or losless codecs, etc. Just trying to have something reasonable for non-pro use.
The M2TS file allows me to accomplish both 1) and 2) with one file. I also backup my project file and HDV source, but it's good to know that I have an additional backup in the compiled M2TS file.
I'm testing the M2TS editing in case I do ever loose the orignal project files and need to resort to M2TS editing.

  • Importing QT with 2 audio tracks

I have a bunch of QT files that are XDCAM HD422 1080i60. I've confirmed that
there are 2 discreet audio channels. Interviewer on Ch1 Interviewee on Ch2.
The footage was shot at 23.98 and recorded with pulldown. I'm using After
Effects to remove pulldown and make new QT files. When I import the QT files
into AE the clip only seems to have 1 audio channel and when I render out, the
same audio is on ch1 and ch2. Am I missing something here?
    Thanks,
    KEN

AE is a compositing app, not an audio processing tool. Extract the channels in your editing program and import them as separate files if needed. The behavior is correct in every way.

  • Importing tape with 2 audio channels recorded?

Can iMovie 4 handle importing a mini DV tape that has 2 channels of audio. Can these 2 channels of audio be separated for editing??

That depends on what you mean. iMovie imports in stereo (which is two channels), but those can't be separated.
If you mean the extra audio channels that can be added using 12-bit audio in the camera, the answer is NO.
    NEVER use 12-bit audio:

  • Imported mpeg layer 3 audio

I hope i have the right section, my first post.
I have downloaded an albumn and i cannot get itunes to up load it.
I have tried dragging and dropping the folder moved but still know music.
I also tried changing the encoder in the import in preferences still know luck.
    Please help.
I got the albumn fron bit torrents would that make a difference??

I had this exact problem! See i got this CD from a friend of mine full of mp3's. One day they play fine and then the next totally weird.
Just discovered the problem a few hours ago... another hour of grueling work and failed attempts and voila!
BUT FIRST! check if your mp3's are openable (no.. not a word) by Quicktime.
(Right click --> open with --> Quicktime/select program --> Quicktime)
So what I did is that I installed "mp3tag": http://www.mp3tag.de/en/download.html
(if you see it in a weird language just click "english" in the top right corner)
Now open up mp3tag and add all of the mp3 files that did not work. Then you select them all (i have windows... ctrl + shift or however you select multiple songs in itunes on a mac).
Finally right click (still holding shift or whatever you use) on the column thats says tag and select remove tags.
For me the tags was changed to IDv3.24 or something like that. Open itunes and enjoy... hopefully?
Anyways hope this works for you
    (tell me if it does!)
P.S: I noticed that the mp3's that i converted to AAC (before all of this misfortune happened) using itunes changed tags and still played fine. If you want to convert and possibly eliminate further chance of this happening again:
select mp3s --> Advanced --> create AAC version
BTW a new AAC version is made but the original MP3 file is still there too

  • Dropping audio when importing  mpeg

i have a 60 second MPEG movie i need to make 1 change to. it works in my FINDER it works when i open it in QUICKTIME, it even worked in ITUNES but when i import into FCP i lose the audio. Any thoughts?

Does anybody know if Apple is working on a plug-in for FC that will allow the import of MPEGs with muxed audio? I run a local television station and we use professional video recorders such as TriCaster and Turbo and they both export in MPEG. To date, every show we shoot that needs to be edited in FC must be converted using MPEG Streamclip and it's a seemingly unnecessary step that's beginning to drive my post supers insane. I'm also assuming there is quality loss as well. Any tips?

  • MPEG Streamclip Issues - Audio

So, I just started using MPEG Streamclip to get my .MOD files onto Final Cut Express. I have a question that may lead to another question.
    1. When I converted the clips, they came out with no audio. I tried "Convert to MPEG" and "Convert to MPEG with MP2 Audio" and they came out only video.
    and
    2. If I have to reconvert all of my (45) clips, is there a way that I can do them all at once instead of drag, click, wait, repeat?
    Thanks in advance

You don't convert to MPEG, you convert to QuickTime.
There is a batch function in MPEG Streamclip. Look in the menus. I can't remember which one it's in.

  • How do I import AVI video with stereo audio (and keep it that way)?

Today I just discovered that all the AVI video with stereo audio I've ever imported into a Premiere Pro CS6 project has been mysteriously converted to mono. And I can't find any import setting anywhere that enable me to change this.
    Here's the deal...
I've have an AVI file with stereo audio (the file is actually a stereo sound test that I downloaded to prove that I wasn't imagining things). On my hard drive, I right-click and view the properties:
    Video
    Length: 00:00:36
    Frame width: 320
    Frame height: 240
    Frame rate: 25 frames/second
    Audio
    Bit rate: 128kbps
    Channels: 2 (stereo)
    Audio sample rate: 44 kHz
I click on it to play and listen with headphones--everything is playing in the correct part of the stereo spectrum. Then, I import it to Premiere, click the file name in the left content menu, and check the properties, suddenly they read:
    Type: AVI Movie
    File Size: 1.1 MB
    Image Size: 320 x 240
    Frame Rate: 25.00
Source Audio Format: 11025 Hz - 16 bit - Mono
Project Audio Format: 11025 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Mono
    Total Duration: 00:00:36:15
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
Sure enough, I drag it into the sequence, listen to it, and it's indeed playing mono. Outside of Premiere, the original source file still reads and plays correctly with stereo sound.
When I import stereo WAVs and MP3s, it keeps the original stereo channels without me having to do anything special. I even just imported the same exact file as a MOV with stereo audio, and it showed up in Premiere as:
Source Audio Format: 44100 Hz - 16 bit - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 44100 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
What is going on here with AVIs? Am I doing something wrong? Are there settings I'm missing somewhere?
(And before anyone suggests I only use MOV in the future... that's not exactly the answer I'm looking for.)

    Thank you for that info.
For video, the codec is MPEG-4 Video (XVID) and for audio it says MPEG Audio Layer 1/2/3 (mpga).
There are two issues with that file:
The first is the Xvid CODEC (not meant for editing), and then the MPEG Audio/MPGA. I would convert that file, to something that is more editable.
    Good luck,

  • When importing MPEG files into Premiere Pro CS3 the audio sequence is missing.

We have two computers running Premiere Pro CS3.  Our computer most recently installed with PPCS3 will only import an audio sequence with the MPEG video file when I extract the file directly from the DVD.  When I take the video folder from the DVD and drag to my Desktop, importing to PP from the desktop, it will only import the video sequence; audio does not appear.  What would cause this happen and how can I fix this?  It's too time consuming to continuously use my DVD Extractor.

1st, that old program has a different forum http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere/premierepro_previous

I'm trying to import some footage files in .avi format into Encore CS3 and am having several problems.
In what follows when I say "crash" I mean Encore quits with a standard Windows error. When I say "hang" I mean Encore does not quit but rather becomes an unresponsive process that must be killed manually using Windows Task Manager.
    My System:
    WinXP Pro SP2
2.93 GHz Intel Celeron CPU - single core
    Intel PERL mobo
    3GB 400MHz RAM
    NVidia 7800GS video
I mention these specs however I am not experiencing any hardware
related bugs or issues (like out of memory or video driver crashes
etc) when using any CS3 app.
The footage files (as reported by GSpot) and problems I am seeing. In all cases GSpot reports that I have the appropriate codec installed:
    footage1.avi - Dx50 XVid 1.0.3, Dolby AC3 48kHz 192kb/s, 716834 KB
Attempting to import as timeline causes Encore CS3 to hang.
Importing as an Asset allows it to import but when I try to click
on it in the project windown to add it to a new empty timeline,
Encore hangs. It plays fine in Windows Media Player.
    footage2.avi - Dx50 XVid 1.0.3, MPEG-1 Layer 3 48kHz 128kb/s, 718302 KB
Imports fine as either a timeline or asset but no audio track comes

with it, even though there is an audio track in the footage. It plays
fine in Windows Media Player. Video imports perfectly, just no
audio. I tried converting this one using AVS to both MPEG3 and DivX,
each using MPEG1-Layer3 44kHz 192kb/s audio, and got the same issue
upon importing into Encore CS3. I also loaded it into Camtasia
Studio and it looked fine over there. The audio was present and I
was able to export it as a .WAV file. When I tried looking at the
file in Soundbooth CS3, there was no audio track or, more
accurately, the audio track was a flat line.
By way of comparison these are importing perfectly:
    footage4.avi - XVID XviD 1.1.0 Beta2, MPEG1-Layer3 48kHz 189kb/s Two mono

Although this one imported & transcoded correctly, when I went to
build it to a DVD image file I got some strange errors during the
"planning video" stage that prevented the process from completing.
Unfortunately I neglected to write down the error message I recieved
which read like quite nonsensical babble to me, and I have since
deleted the project folder. I remember it was not a memory or
display related error and it included a timestamp where the error
was happening. I played the footage in the preview panel thru the
identified timestamp but it previewed perfectly without even a
jitter in either the video or audio. Took forever to transcode so I
doubt I'll be doing this one again anytime soon.
Another issue I am having is with the motion menus. I burned a DVD and it does not load correctly in one of my DVD players (a Sony rdr-gx330 recorder/player). It appears to take extra time to recognize the disk, the startup (first-play) menu does not show automatically, and I must press the Main Menu button on the

Another issue I am having is with the motion menus. I burned a DVD and it does not load correctly in one of my DVD players (a Sony rdr-gx330 recorder/player). It appears to take extra time to recognize the disk, the startup (first-play) menu does not show automatically, and I must press the Main Menu button on the remote control to make it appear. Other than that it seems to play ok in that player. Also tested it in 2 other DVD players (a Panasonic and Zenith) and it worked just fine like it's supposed to in them. Also plays perfectly in my computer's DVD player/burner using Windows Media Player v10. I tried burning to Memorex +RW single-layer single-sided disks at 6, 7, & 8Mbps project settings but got the exact same result every time.
Encore CS3 crashes fairly often during authoring, particularly during imports, and when I go to edit things like calling up a timeline in the timeline panel, dragging footage into an existing timeline, or changing button links in a menu etc.. I have also experienced seemingly random hangs even more often, probably 5 or 6 times as often as a crash. Saving the project after every little change I make, then closing and restarting Encore allows me to make progress albeit at a significantly reduced workflow rate. Accessing Photoshop from Encore appears to be working flawlessly so far aside from the slow load times. Encore hangs sometimes during video transcoding, repeat the process and it works ok. If I try to import a menu from the library after importing my footage files, Encore hangs trying to import it either at the 50% mark or the 99% mark (it varies even with the same exact menu selected from the library). If I import the menu first and the footage after, then no problems. Also trying to render motion menus after importing footage causes Encore to hang, render before footage import and everything works ok. Interestingly enough, previewing my project in Encore's monitor or preview panels works perfectly even in High quality mode -- in fact it operates quite smoothly in comparison to other apps I have tried. Although those footage files that had missing audio tracks on import obviously played silently, I have yet to experience a hang or crash during a preview or when scrubbing through a timeline in the monitor panel.
The last problem I've seen is with the project cache files. It doesn't always get rid of cache files when stuff is deleted from the project. I was working on one project and surprisingly ran out of disk space. When I tracked it down I found that there were some two dozen copies of a footage file I had repeatedly imported and deleted from the project still sitting in the cache folder. The file was an avi about 2GB so it was taking up some 40 GB of disk space for stuff that was no longer in the project. I tried shutting down Encore and manually deleting all the cache files, and that worked for most of them, but there was one 2GB file that kept reappearing in the cache folder even though it was no longer in the project. The XML file in the cache folder still had references to it in there so I can only assume that was the reason it kept showing up. I eventually had to delete and totally recreate the project from scratch to regain my lost disk space. This included having to sit thru a 6 hour long transcoding session which pissed me off to no end.
Encore CS3 appears on the surface to be a very powerful, feature rich, and approachable app with a simple easy to use interface, but it is awfully bugged in just about every area I have explored and still needs lots and lots of work for it to be really useful. Frankly for me it is pretty damn annoying that I have invested so much money in this suite only to find several of the apps in it (Encore & Premiere in particular) behaving this poorly. In my opinion every single app in the suite exhibits lousy performance whenever you must do anything at all involving the disk from the time you click to start it up until the time you click to close it down. Several of them are just as seriously bugged as Encore too, and being a long time Photoshop v5.5 user I expected much more from Adobe. Even Photoshop is two or three times as slow now (e.g. it takes about 20-30 seconds to simply create an empty 500x500 pixel image file and almost a full minute to load a 30x60 pixel single-layer gif). So far I have attempted to create 6 DVDs using Encore and after 3 weeks of effort have only succeeded in getting one of them onto a final disk -- and that one is kinda limping to work correctly in my DVD player. Three of those projects became so corrupted while working on them that I had to delete them completely and recreate them from scratch, only to find that I still couldn't get them to completion for one reason or another. Seriously disappointing.

  • Importing MPEG-4 audio files into itunes

    Hi,
I am a new user of iTunes. I am unable to import MPEG-4 audio files from an audio CD into my iTunes library. This audio CD was created by a friend on his MAC.
Interestingly, I am able to play the same MPEG-4 files through my Windows Media Player. I have the most recent and updated versions of Quicktime (7.4.5) and the most updated iTunes player for Windows (7.6.2.9). Coincidentally, the same audio CD has some MP3 files which I am able to import into iTunes with no problem.
    Would greatly appreciate any help.
    Thanks

Incidentally, I am able to play these same MPEG-4 files through my QuickTime player just fine.
    Thanks.
