Imported .MPG clips have no sound......

I am working on a project and when I import .MPG clips that I previously downloaded from my camara, they have no sound. But when I play them in Quicktime, they DO have sound. What is the problem?
Thank you.

Hi Peter - the lack of sound is caused by the fact that iMovie is designed to handle DV formatted video, not MPEG. You will need to convert the clips, using this app.:
MPEG StreamClip (free):

  • No sound on imported MPG clips

    Hi everyone,
I just imported MPG clips taken from a digital camera into iMovie HD. Why is there no sound? What can I do to hear the sound? Thanks!

mpegs are for playback only, a delivery format, not meant to be processed in any way, audio+video are "muxxed" => woven together...
you need a 3rd party tool for conversion:
    Streamclip
    my usual disclaimer:
iMovie is a video edit app meant to work with firewire connected miniDV camcorders

  • Captured Clips have no sound

Hey all. I worked on a project a while ago and I recently back to it. When I opened my project file and went to look at the clips I wanted to work on I noticed that the clips had image but no sound. I went to the original capture scratch clip and that clip is also soundless. Is there a way to get the audio back to a clip once it has already been captured or do I need to recapture all my clips?
    Thanks

Mayhaps you captured video and Audio to different drives? Try selecting the audio clip in the timeline, got to reconnect media, and find out where the audio is supposed to be.

  • Some apps have no sound since updating my iPad to ios7. Any ideas?

Two apps I have that catalogue YouTube golf clips have no sound since I updated to iOS 7. If I play the clips from You Tube, they work!!! The .03 update has not helped. Am I the only one or are other having issues with sound?

Apple does not provide an option to downgrade to a previous version of iOS.  If glitches occur wth some apps, try a reboot:
press and hold the home and power buttons until the Apple icon is displayed, then let go.
    Something else to try:
Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings.  Some users report this speeds up their devices.

I have an old project with AVCHD clips and I want to import the clips again with surround sound. How can I relink the project clips to the re-imported ones without doing the project from the begining?
I have a sony handicam and I imported the clips to iMovie and they lost quality and converted the audio to stereo. I want to import the project to final cut X and import the AVCHD in 1080p and surround sound and export the movie in bluray. Can I relink the clips without editing everything again?
    thanks!

Only photos taken with the iPad, copied onto it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad - either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view.
Photos that were synced from a computer are deleted by moving/removing/de-selecting them from where they were synced from and then re-syncing. If you want to remove them all then normally you could just sync an empty folder (in terms of photos) to the iPad, but as you don't want to sync at the moment you can't do that.
You can reset the iPad back to factory settings and start from scratch with it : Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content And Settings

  • No sound when importing mpg file

I have used several camcorders as sources for video clips. All of the clips can be imported to my Premiere Pro CS4. The problem I am having is that the mpg files from one of the cameras, when importing the clip, the video comes through fine, but the sound does not come through at all.

Is the problem MPEG file using MPEG audio or Dolby audio format?
    Cheers

  • Clip imported into iMovie has no sound

I have recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion (actually had to have a fresh OS Lion install at Apple Store and restore from Time Machine).  I have imported three clips from my Sony DCR DVD-201 camcorder but they have no sound.  The clips play fine, except for the lack of sound.  Wondering if I should go into the Movie folder and delete the events and try to import again.  Found a few posts about this problem on the web, but no apparent solutions (except deleting iMovie and reinstalling and then not updating with the latest update).  Wondering if the experts on this thread have any ideas.
Using an iMac (late 2010) running Lion (10.7.4), and iMovie 11 (9.0.6).
    Thanks.

First:  We did switch to MPEGStreamClip with the same result - No sound in iMovie.
Second:  Thanks for your recommendation of MPEGStreamClip over HandBrake.  However, HandBrake has been completely satisfactory for the last 5 years.  Just not this time.  I think the problem is not HB but something Apple.  My local Cafe Mac techs say they have seen the no sound situation before and have been able to correct it by using an earlier version of iMovie.  However, I did use iMovie '08.  An upgrade to iMovie '11 didn't help.
Thanks for replying to my inquiry.

  • Premiere CS5 import avi clips without sound. How can I import avi clips with sound without convert?

    Dear Adobe Forum,
I have the following problem, please help:
I would like to import avi clips in adobe premiere. All clips have the same avi codec. But unfortunately my adobe premiere does not import the sound of a few
avi clips. It is wired because about 10 out 70 avi clips which have all the same avi codec does not work with sound in premiere CS5. In the timline premiere import the video and audio line but there are no audio waves in the about 10 avi clips. additonally premiere plays the 10 avi clips in the source monitor without sound. Furthermore when I open the 10 avi files without adobe premiere they have sound, but with premiere there are no sound in the 10 avi clips.
What can I do, so that I can import all avi files with sound. I do not want to convert each of the avi files because then they have not a good quality and it is to complicated and it takes to much time to convert all files in this video project and in the other video project in my future.
Consequently How can I import all avi files so that they have immediately sound? Do I have to change some premiere settings?
    Thank you in advance
    Leonardo

Consequently, as you can see, they have both nearly the same information
Both video clips have the following audio codec:

But the 2 video clips mentioned above does not have any files like .AVD oder something else like that. But the first one works and the second one doesnt work.

  • My current os x is 10.9.5, using final cut express vers. 4.0.1.  I have imported .mov clips created with a older mac os x (lion) and converted them to import into fce. after doing this as well as putting clips on the fce timeline when playing back t.h

My current os x is 10.9.5, using final cut express vers. 4.0.1.  I have imported .mov clips created on a older mac os x (lion) and when I wanted to import them into fce, a quicktime conversion window opened up and converted them (I haven't experienced this in the past). I then imported the converted quicktime clips into my fce project.  After doing this I took selected clips and put those edited clips on the fce timeline.  When playing the video back in the fce timeline,I noticed
    1) the video wasn't playing back smoothly like the original content
    2) when looking at the timecode reading of the timeline, the timecode was sputtering as well as the video and audio.  I exported to quicktime just to see if that was consistent, it was.
When I play the converted quicktime content independently of fce,  it plays normally (no sputtering of timecode, video and audio.  Need help to resolve the sputtering playback of converted video content in the fce timeline.  I've never experienced this before.  Any suggestions?

When you say you converted the clips before importing them into FCE, did you convert to AIC or DV and do the converted clips match your FCE Sequence settings exactly?  If not, go back and convert the original files again, using the intended Sequence settings as a guide.

  • Is there a way to import clips from AVCHD folders I have copied from my camcorder to my hard disk? With FCE I could import these clips using log and transfer.

In FCP-X is there a way to import AVCHD clips from an AVCHD file folder I have copied from my Canon hard disk camcorder to my iMac hard disk?  With FCE I used log and transfer with no problem; but, FCP-X doesn't import them. It will import AIC files that have been created in FCE from the original AVCHD files.  If FCP-X will not import these files directly from the copied AVCHD folder, is there a workaround using other software to convert the files? For example, Compressor? (Canon does not provide any AVCHD conversion software for OSX).

    Hi jphil and Tom
I have exactly the same problem but the answer you (Tom) provided did not help in my case. Trying to "Import ->From Camera" and pointing to the AVCHD folder yields the error message: "(Folder) contains unsupported files or has invalid directory structure."
    Folder structure is
    AVCHD
         BDMV
              CLIPINF
                   .CPI files
              Index.bdm
              Movieobj.bdm
              PLAYLIST
                   .MPL file
              STREAM
                   .MTS files
    AVF_INFO
         3 files (.bnp, .inp, .int)
    DCIM
         101MSDCF
              empty
         MODELCFG.IND (file)
My question is: Is that not a "camera archive" of the type you talked about in the thread? Is it on principle not possible to import the files in that format/directory structure? If not, since the shots were not taken by myself, what should I ask the guy who shot the movies to give me to be able to work with them in FC?
I work with a brand new Final Cut Pro X 10.0.4 (still very clumsy with it) on an iMac 11,3 with MacOS 10.6.8.
I downloaded the latest version of codec updates from the Apple support site but no difference.
    Thank you in advance

  • Aperture Video Import Problem - from Lumix GH4: Imported clips have their dates changed to the import date.  The files show up on the hard drive but many are not showing up in Aperture.

Aperture Video Import Problem - from Lumix GH4: Imported clips have their dates changed to the import date.  The files show up on the hard drive with import date not created date, but many of these same files are not showing up in Aperture. Sometimes the clips actually show up with the current import but take on the video information from a previously imported file.

It was suggested I move this question to IPhoto or IMovie which I did.
Well moving to a different discussion group did not provide an answer to this question either. But what I finally did was import one batch of photos and videos into IPhoto for a given day at a time. Working with these I could change the date and times in order to get them in the original sequench taken. Then I would create an album with that batch. These would all be on the same day (IMove was closed for this phase). Then I would open IMovie, generate the thumbnails for that album, and select the album I had created. This was necessary because the importing process in IPhoto was using incorrect dates for my video so it was a real struggle finding them in IMove until I developed this approach.
I believe that this whole process was so screwy because I was importing from an external hard drive not a camera. I had these photos on a PC and did not have the original cameras to use to import directly which I am fairly sure would have made this easier!

    hi b noir,
I don't no about virtuel drives like you mententioned. In the mean time I have rebooted the XPS and run again the iTunes diagnostics. I think the back - chance in the registry was not ready to use.  Now there are another results. They are the same in case of a running CD or a not running CD. The difference in total is like before. It takes more time that iTunes reads the (bad) CD and at the there is no good sound. In both cases ( running or not running CD) iTunes diagnostics gives as a result :

  • New clips have volume when imported, no volume when played as projects

Just started using iMovie 8. When I am importing video, I can hear sound coming from my Macbook's speakers. However when I access either the clips or the project, I hear nothing. What's happening here?

If you look on the center toolbar (between the Project pane and the Events pane), there is a cluster of buttons on the right. The left-most of these buttons toggles audio skimming on and off.

  • HDC-SD9 Import clips have 5 sec glitch

    Hi,
I'm using a MBP 17" 2.33ghz, imovie 8 and a HDC-SD9 - just been trying to import moveis from the camera and the Import clips have a 5 sec glitch at the beginning of each one? doesn't matter if I choose the higher resolution capture (even though it gives me a warning) or the 960 res? any ideas?
I can see they are fine in the playback on the camera itself.

Can't help you, I'm afraid. I have an SD5 and it works fine, but others have had trouble with later models, e.g; SD7, etc.
Have you tried doing a Discussions Search (..box, upper-right corner of this page..) to see what others have posted here about the SD9..? For example, there's this thread about the SD9 and iMovie (..as well as about Final Cut Pro): http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7702652&#7702652
I quote: "..Hi all - finally this question is resolved: Apple finally provided an update to iMovie - which allows ingesting AVCHD from the Panasonic SD9 - connect the camera to your Intel Mac, and iMovie '08 works perfectly. The resulting files then can be accessed from the same folder for use in FCP. Thanks for helping in this thread and good luck with your SD9's... let's see if Apple finally updates their professional software (FCP) for the same issue. Meanwhile this works fine.."
I can't find a mention about a 5 sec glitch. I wonder if it's related to the quality in which you record. (..The SD5, for example, has different recording modes, e.g; HG (1920), HN (1440), HE (1440), but I don't know which modes the SD9 has..)
Perhaps those various compression ratios, at different quality settings, may produce a delay or glitch when the AVCHD-format video is converted, during import, into Apple's Intermediate Codec. (AVCHD can be quite heavily compressed, and the 'missing' video frames have to be reconstructed during import so that the video can later be edited.) Perhaps a mis-match, or repositioning, of what are called the "i"-frames - which contain full frame information - means that the first few seconds aren't being properly reconstructed.
A MacBook Pro is certainly fast enough to handle the conversion & reconstruction in "real time".
Are you sure that you've specified the correct frame rate (..in iMovie's Preferences..) and type of New Project before starting your import? I'd try making three or four new test clips at the camera's different resolutions, and then try importing those, at various resolutions, into new iMovie projects: one of them should be OK.
If none of them is OK, then there's some odd mismatch. Have you downloaded updates to iMovie so that you're on the current version..? Click on the name iMovie and then About iMovie to check: the current version should be 7.1.4 ..use Software Update if yours is an earlier version.
