Imported multiple clips 22 minutes long - 90 min to share - Normal?

I have multiple 1 to 3 minute clips imported into iMovie. All clips plus background sound is 22 minutes long. I am exporting now to the LARGE format. It shows 90 minutes left. This is more than 4 to 1. Is this normal?
I am running a MBP 2.2 ghz with 4GB or ram. This seems like such a long time to export to something that I would have thought wouldn't have much encoding to do since I imported to this same format from the camera.
Does this seem normal or am I doing something wrong. Should I be more patient? Thanks in advance.

Yeah it is. Because the computer is converting the file into a different format (Quicktime) it takes very long, especially for video files. Just be patient and do something else on the computer (surf the web) or some other things.

  • Importing problems - clips are longer than source - grayed out.

I am trying to import a movie clip (.MOV) that is only 30 seconds long. When it imports into iMovie, the whole clip is there, but it is over 9 minutes long and the extra 8:30 is filled with gray and no sound. I have no idea why this is - I have tried with many such clips multiple times, with the same results. It is very frustrating!
If anyone knows the solution, or the reason, please let me know!
    Thanks,

I see, you are using a Kodak still camera. Perhaps it's best to use iPhoto.
Also take a look a the links below, I don't think your camera is supported in iMovie '09

  • Importing Multiple Clips in Order

Does anyone know why when I import video from either my video camera or off of a DVD through a ripping software the clips come in in multiple clips? I could deal with this if they came in the same order but they aren't even close to being in order.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Peter

Don't import into or edit in the clips viewer, do so to the Timeline. Then they will always be in order.
Regard the clips viewer as merely a 'parking lot' for stuff you may not need but don't want to delete yet.

  • CC 2014 Imported MP4 clips no longer work

I had been working on a project in CC and it contained several MP4 clips.  These work fine and have video and audio.
Yesterday, I updated CC Pro to CC Pro 2014.
I opened the project in 2014 and it told me I needed to convert the project file to the new format which I did.
Now, within 2014 all the MP4 clips show as "Media Offline".
If I try and import a new MP4 into the project within 2014, I get a message "File Import Failure - the file has no audio or video streams".
Fortunately, I still have the Pro CC version still installed and the MP4s are still fine in that version.
Within the Creative Cloud application, it lists my three installed apps (Premiere Pro CC, Premiere Pro CC (2014), Media Encoder CC (2014)) and says they are all up to date.
    I am running Windows 8.1
I would be grateful for any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Glenn

I just exported a MP4 video from within CC 2014 and then imported it back into CC 2014 and it worked fine.
Looking at the codec information for what did and didn't work:
    Clips that fail
    Codec: mp4v
    Name: MPEG-4 Video
    Clips that work
    Codec: avc1
    Name: H.264/MPEG-4 AVC

  • Corrupted clip import from DV: cut into multiple clips, wrong date

After importing DV tapes into iMovie '09, especially older ones, many takes are wrongly cut into multiple clips, some having the correct recording date & time, others having the current date & time. I have a single take, 32 minutes, cut into 685 tiny clips! All out of order... It's almost impossible to puzzle them in the correct order (and I lack the time).
Can iMovie be set to disregard timestamp info from the tape, and simply put clips in the order they are received from the tape? I could easily set the date & time by hand, and even make it understand it's one take, but not if it's a clip puzzle... Help!

Can imovie HD run on 10.6? I tried to install it and it said I needed iLife 08 installed first.
    Yes. It works fine.
    You have 6.0.4, you want 6.0 > 6.0.3 ONLY. 6.0.4 looks for iLife '08.
You can get iMovie 06 in a number of ways. You cannot download it FROM APPLE any longer (it was free for a time). You can also find iMovie 06 on the iLife 06 install disc. You can buy iLife 06 on Amazon or eBay. WELL WORTH EVERY PENNY!
iMovie 6.0.4 requires that iLife 08 is already installed. iMovie 6.0 thru iMovie 6.0.3 has no such requirement. There are no known functional differences between 6.0.3 and 6.0.4. If you install iMovie 06 from the iLife 06 disk it will probably be version 6.0 or 6.01. However you can update the software to 6.0.3 from Apple's Web site.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/imoviehd602combo .html
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/imoviehd603.html
If you want to have both iMovie 06 and iLife 09 (and most do) just install iMovie 06 first, then iLife 09. You are now UN-STOPPABLE!
Also when you install iLife 08 or 09, iMovie 06 is not removed from the computer. Previous editions of iMovie were always un-installed when "upgrading" in the past. Apple leaves iMovie 06 on your system, because they want you to have it. iMovie 06 works great with iDVD 09.

  • Address Book no longer able to import multiple vCards

In Leopard, and at least Tiger before that, when importing vCards into Address Book, you could hold down the Command key and import multiple vCards at once rather than only one at a time. You can no longer do this in Snow Leopard. This is extremely inefficient, especially when I need to import tens of vCards at a time. What used to take 5 minutes now takes 20-30!!

I was using the File>Import function in Address Book. With drag & drop, I can select multiple vCards which, I guess, is what I'll now have to do. Thanks for the workaround.

either drag the End of Song marker to the end of the clip:

(Let the page FULLY load. The link to your answer is at the top of your screen)
    or export the exact length:

When i shoot a number of video clips and try to import them individually to my computer from an SD Card, they combine together as one long clip. an event in one of my libraries no longer has the event icon next to it's name in the browser just the name only. I can't view the clips in the event or import new clips. I've tried deleting the event and nothing. After control clicking the event it shows all the media that has been previously imported. But it does not allow anything to be done to the event including deleting. This showed up at the beginning of a normal import session. This is fortunately the back-up evant.

Did you perhaps mess with the contents of the library in the Finder?
You may try the solution suggested in this thread:

Select one and click cmd-A which selects them all.
Then click the import button if it hasn't started already.

  • Getting Multiple clips when importing DV file into iMovie 7

In previous versions of iMovie you could set a preference for importing movie files that either brought it in as one big clip or multiple clips. I don't see this in the new version. When I import a DV file it breaks it into about 30 clips. How can I bring in my file as one big clip?
I would appreciate fast response as I am on a deadline for this project. Thanks!!

There is no answer to this question. Its just the way it is and it stinks. I will continue to use iMovie 6

  • Why is my 40 minute long iMovie showing to be 22.9 gb in total. if i go into all my files there are extra clips there and when i delete any of them it deletes my source clip

Why is my 40 minute long imovie video showing to be 22.9 gb in total if i go into.... all my files.... there are extra clips there and when i delete any of them it deletes my source clip. I think the video should be about 9gb

    Hey Eric,
Thanks for taking the time. Unfortunately no that does not solve it. Same as swipe it will get me there and it will show separate programs spaced out. The issue I am having is that all my open word files are bunched up in a pile on top of each other. I can see the edges of each one but I want them to be separated from each other enough that I can visually identify what file is what.
Again, thanks for trying, it is appreciated.

  • Clip import only 1 second long. WHY?

WHen I first tried to import my half hour clip, it cut out the beginning for some reason. Then I changed something in the preferences, and the clip is only importing as 1 second long now!
Does anyone know why this could be happening? How do i fix it? PLEASE help

This is not Adobe. We are Premiere Elements users trying to help other Premiere Elements users.
I will get back to the actual preview files produced during the Timeline content render, but first I would like to start with the basics of your workflow with this choppy play back.
    1. What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on? What do your computer resources look like? Is your video card driver up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the video card? Do you have more than one video card in your computer?
    2. How and what are you importing into this project that yields the choppy previews of rendered Timeline content? What are the properties of these source media...video and audio compression, frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, file size, pixel aspect ratio. What camera is this video coming from? Or do you have videos and stills on this Timeline?
    More later.
    Thanks.
    ATR
    3. Based on your source media properties, what are you or the program setting as the project preset in the new project dialog?

  • I import a 3 minute song, but on iTunes it goes to 24 minutes long... HELP!

I downloaded and mp3 off the internet, not iTunes, and i needed to import it to my iTunes library. The song was 3 minutes and 11 seconds long. When I imported it, the song on the iTunes library turned out to be 24 minutes and 42 seconds. The song still played in the timeframe of 3 minutes and 11 seconds, but the file itself was 24 minutes long. So when I would put it in my iPod, it would take up 24 minutes of space, not 3 minutes.
Has this ever happened to anyone and if so, do you know how to fix it? Thanks.

Is it by any chance encoded with Variable Bit Rate? If you are not sure, right-click the song in your library, Get Info, Summary tab, and look at the value for "Bit Rate." iTunes sometimes incorrectly reports the play time for VBR songs.
If that is the problem, and you really want to fix it, you can get a program like VBRfix, or you can use iTunes to convert it to a Constant Bit Rate version.
