Imported PDF bookmarks in iBook?

I have a large, +1,000 page PDF. It works well in iBooks, but ...
I had many carefully crafted bookmarks in the PDF. they are critical for navigating such a large file. iBooks doesn't show them at all.
Any ideas how to get them to show??

Yes, I have the same problem when importing a 500-page PDF with embedded bookmarks. It's really inconvenient to have to navigate through this book without these... Also I noticed that the data in the pdf, such as Title, Author, etc. is not copied.
Hopefully Apple will address these issues soon!

Or send the file from your computer to your ipod by emailing yourself the pdf. Then if you open the Mail client and you open the pdf there is an option to select open in ibooks. It will save it to your device for remote viewing.

  • How do I import .pdf files to iBooks with Maverick

I am having trouble importing .pdf books to iTunes/iBooks since I went over to Mavericks. With Mountain Lion I would simply drag and drop or use the "add to library" pull down. Now nothing will move over. This includes the ipod Nano7 users guide and others...
    Help?

There might be some way using the Camera Connection Kit, but that is an expensive way to go about things. Even if it does work now, it might not work come iOS7.

  • HT4059 I saved approx. 50 important PDF-Documents in ibooks-App. Now all of them are disappeared!

I did the last update at 7th of Nov. 2013 before I update my Ipad Mini to IOS 7 (V7.0.3) from IOS 6.
After the update all my PDF-doucments were available in ibooks-App.
Yesterday I would like to check one of the documents and the PDF-Folder in ibooks was empty.
    So what happens??
If I restore my IPAD Mini with the last backup (07.11.2013) and I open the ibooks-App again I can see all the doucments, but only for a few seconds.
After that, it looks like they will be deleted and again no objects available any more in the PDF-Folder!!!
Further I did the update to V7.0.4 but nothing changed. After restore - same result!
Could it be, that there's is a bug in IOS7?
If you have any idea please let me know.
The documents are really necessary for me.
    Thanks!

Are you backing the iPad up to to an OS X-based computer?  Knowing more about the systems involved will help troubleshoot.

  • Migrate/import (?) bookmarks from iBook to new iMac?

Is there some way to move my bookmarks from my old iBook to my new iMac? I ran the Migratiion Assistant, but that doesn't seem to have done the trick.
    thanks,
    Chris

If you're using Safari, go to File/Export Bookmarks... and save the file. Then, copy the file over to your new Mac, and use the File/Import Bookmarks... option.
You can clean up the mix of old/new Bookmarks by clicking on the Bookmark icon at the left end of your Bookmarks bar.
You should be able to use Target FireWire Mode (hold down T while booting your old Mac, connect to new Mac with FIreWire cable) to mount the old Mac on you new Mac's Desktop, then copy the file to your new Mac. Or,
Using a USB 2.0 Flash Drive to copy the file to the stick, plug it into your new Mac, copy the file from the flash drive, and again import it into Safari.

I imported several books in PDF forman in my iPad 2, and I can read them fine, but the Font size button (A A  on the uper right corner) does not appear. I only have the brightness button (that only controls the brightness and nothing else), the Search and the Bookmark buttons. Any idea? Thanks.

Thanks King_Penguin, I suspected that this would be the case but I wanted an expert oppinion. Thanks again.

How to import PDFs to iBooks on OS X Mavericks?

    Using iCloud?
Found this in the iBooks Help Center ...
    About using iBooks with iCloud
Your books, collections, highlights, notes, and bookmarks are available automatically on your computers and iOS devices—just use the same Apple ID to sign in to the iBooks Store.
If you buy a book on your Mac, it’s automatically available on all of your iOS devices with iOS 6 or later and with Show All Purchases turned on in iBooks settings. (Books made with iBooks Author aren’t available on iPhone or iPod touch.) To see all your purchased books on your Mac, choose View > Show Purchases in iCloud.
If you start reading a book on one device, you can pick up right where you left off on another device. Collections, highlights, notes, and bookmarks are also available on other devices when “Sync bookmarks, highlights, and collections across devices” is selected on your Mac in the General pane of iBooks preferences. On your iOS devices, turn on Sync Bookmarks and Sync Collections in iBooks settings.
If you’re not seeing your info on all of your devices, make sure you’re using the same Apple ID in the iBooks Store on your Mac and on each iOS device. Also, make sure syncing is turned on in the General pane of iBooks preferences on your Mac and in iBooks settings on your iOS devices.

how to import epub/pdf into macvericks' ibooks ?

Placing the PDF into an InDesign document shouldn't be a problem, but if it is, please post back. What I think you're asking for is how to edit a PDF with InDesign, which can't be done. You would need the source document, edit that and then export to another PDF (if PDF is the end goal). There are some programs that can edit PDFs or convert PDFs to other formats (Word, InDesign, etc.), and they will work to one extent or another. You should expect to have to rework parts of it should you go that way. Keep in mind that PDF is generally considered a final document that isn't intended to be edited.

  • IBooks does not open. It only briefly shows an empty  bookcase. I have all my important .pdf reference documents in my library.  I was never able to figure out how to backup ibooks.  I am afraid to reinstall the apps risking loss of data. Any way to save?

IBooks will not open with new ipad and upgraded iOS. It only opens briefly to show an empty  bookcase. I installed the most recent update of iBooks. In apps store it says 'open'.  But the same thing happens...a brief flash.  Strangely, the image and list of my collection actually shows in miniature with all the open apps; so I can close it as I do any other app.
I have all my important .pdf reference documents in my library.    I am afraid to reinstall the apps risking loss of data. I was never able to figure out how to backup ibooks. Any way to save without access to the program?

Now that you have your PDFs on your computer's iTunes library you could try deleting and redownloading the app, and then sync the PDFs back to it - as long as you continue to keep a copy of the PDFs on your computer (and preferably on a backup as well) then if the same thing happens again then you could delete and reinstall again (you shouldn't have any problems with the iBooks app, but then you shouldn't have had a problem this time either).
You could try GoodReader (you could have the most important PDFs in both) - but the current version on iOS 7 isn't getting very good reviews in terms of its speed and crashes (it's description page says that a major update is coming soon).

  • How do I import and export PDF's from Ibooks

How do I import and export PDF files from Ibooks on the IMAC running Mavericks?
How do I sync my PDF files in IBooks to the IPAD when they were not purchased from the bookstore?
I noticed that I could email the PDF and then add it to IBOOKS on the IPAD.
Is there a 3rd party IBOOK type reader that will address this issue?
When I upgraded Mavericks it moved all of my PDF files in ITUNES application to IBOOKS and removed all reference to those
books in ITUNES. When I purchase a book from IBOOKS store on the IMAC, the books shows up in IBOOKS on the IPAD.
All of my PDF files will not sync up with the IPAD.
I do hope this is a problem that Apple will address and would like to know when the fix will be available.

    Hello,
Thank you. I found that option you pointed out. I can now change it from 1080i to 1080p and I can chance the resolution. However I still can't change the frame rate. It still stays at 29.97.
Could this be due to the camera? I am using a Canon VIXIA HF S100 with 30p and 24p frame rate options. I suspect that it does not really shoot at true 24p and only does 24p within 60i.
Frankly, I don't really care about getting 24p support too much but it would be very nice to have the option.
I'll keep toying with the program. Still, anymore ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you Wild Giles.

  • Problems Importing pdfs into iBook and sync to iPad air 2

Is there a solution to what appears to be a widespread problem within the community? That of not being able to import books in pdf form into iBooks and subsequently syncing with an iPad Air 2 running iOS 8.1. This seems to be specific to pdfs not 'purchased' from iTunes. In the past I have had all my software manuals available on my iPad, synced with my iMac, all working happily and would dearly love to return this situation.
I then upgraded to iOS 8. Big mistake. iTunes on the iMac (OS 10.6.8) does not sync pdfs to new iPad.
Try syncing from MacBookPro (OS 10.10) still no luck.
There are suggestions to use iTunes, but there is no longer an option to view 'Books' in iTunes.
Can anybody offer a work around until such times as the collective 'apple digit' is removed and a not so 'minor bug' is fixed?
Are Apple working on this problem or even aware of it?

Have you tried the shortcut to add books/pdfs Command Shift O?
Command Shift O is not available in iBooks (Greyed Out)
Command Shift in Finder shortcuts to Documents
Maybe I didn't explain myself very well earlier. When I am working in iBooks, having control clicked multiple files and selected 'Open With iBooks' to get the pdfs into iBooks, (as per your suggestion) a click on a pdf icon initiates nothing, a double click causes the pdf to open in Preview. This I can achieve from the Finder.
The reason I haven't tried to sync from the MBP is that I rely on iPad iBooks as a reference source. At the moment it is working but not the way I want it to (Sync via iMac 10.8.6). When Ibooks on the MBP is finally OK, then I will try.
    Thanks for hanging in there.
