Imported photos have error

in Lightroom 1.4 running on Mac OS X v10.5 importing from Olympus E-510,
Out of 113 photos imported, 2 photos have an error in that the whole photo is imported but these 2 photos also have the quarter-size version of the photo in upper left corner. I have deleted these photos and re-imported them and they have the same error. The camera shows the pictures correctly. They are 3648x2736 JPGs.

These 2 erroneous imports were taken a few minutes apart - but they were not adjacent photos - they were taken about 9 shots apart. They have the same resolution. There are numerous other photos taken at the same time that import correctly. All the images are in the 5-7 Mb range - these photos are not the biggest or smallest.
Experiment: I deleted (from library and disk) the 2 erroneous photos. I re-imported them by putting the compact flash card in an external reader (so Olympus E-510 is uninvolved with the import). They came in with the same error. I would note that the preview of the imported images briefly showed correctly and then when the import completely finished - the error showed up.
When I view the JPGs with Preview, the images look fine.
I cannot figure out *anything* about these 2 files that is different from all the others. I will retain the photos if you want copies.

  • Imported photos have distortions in black areas

I've imported several photos from my scanner as well as from online. When placing them in iMovie, I notice during playback the photos have distortions and marks in most areas that are black.
Is there a way to fix this problem?
    Thanks for your help.

    a) what are your Project settings? (resolution? 1080, 720, NTSC?)
    b) try the following Export setting:
Share/Export using Quicktime/Quicktime (from drop-down)/Options/Compression: AppleIntermediate, keep other options untouched or auto ... .
=> the internal 'timeline' gets exported without trans-coding, results in super-large files (40GB/h) - doesn't matter.
Drag the resulting .mov into your DVD-Authoring app (which one you're using?)
What is the length of your movie mm:ss?

  • Imported Photos have disappeared in my Library

Imported a wedding collection about 3 days ago, worked on them and had them almost finished. Opened LR again today, did some work on other photos, and then went back to finish the wedding collection. Appears that the photos were never even in LR. Can't find the folder anywhere and LR will even let me try to import them again - which is a sign that they're nowhere in my library! Not sure what to do or how to fix it. There's also another folder that I had imported that's no longer in my LR library - and I had done some work on it as well!
I never backup my LR library - which is dumb, I'm aware. On 9/19 I updated it and saved it to my external. Yesterday I created a new catalog for something I was working on and couldn't get back to my other catalog, so I closed the program and reopened from the 9/19 backup. Would have that reset LR back to 9/19? If so, is there anyway to go back to where I was before I opened with that backup?
    Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

  • Imported photos have a different name.

When I export an album of photos to desktop and work on them in photoshop, change the names (using save as command) and import them back to iPhoto- iPhoto renames each photo with the original album name.
The reason I want to import them back to iPhoto is that I want to use them for iWeb on the Album page.
It would save a lot of time matching and renaming the photos in iPhoto if that didn't occur.

Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

    Thanks for responding.
Yes, I copied the whole project folder at once with all its subfolders. but I left the original location completely untouched. so why would that matter anyway.
everything else in the project appears to be completely in tact.
note: when I open up the song with the missing audio files, I notice that the record path is not assigned, which is perplexing as i did not touch this perameter. It is supposed to reflect the path of the project right? (all my other songs do this)
just now I tried recording a test audio track to see where the file goes when this parameter is left untouched and it automatically directed itself to the project folder. so I'm bafffled still.
I can't understand how files could disappear without my doing something. It seems if they are still in existence then my computer would have had to change the date that they were created. and perhaps the extensions of the file names fromm .aif to something else (yes, I double checked that parameter too; it records to .aif). There must a computer malfunction. I can't have this happen again(who can?). this is the worst type of recording accident and if it can't be explained then my whole Logic recording career feels at risk.

  • IPod jumps to Import Photos - errors out

Original 20 GB iPod updated to 3.1.1. While playing music iPod jumps to Import Photos and errors out "no card inserted". It does it intermittently but often frequently. Does not lock up but I have to go back through menu and reselect music options. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the reply. It is black and white and while playing music, earphones or through remote player, mp3 style or the full iPod plug, it stops playing and the the message on the screen is "card not inserted" and when I page back through the menu it goes to Import Photos.

  • IPhoto 11 won't import photo from iPhone 5 on new MBP

Brand new MacBookPro out of box experience -- picked up the laptop yesterday.  Everything seems to work until I get to iPhoto (as usual).  Plugged in my iPhone 5 and tried to import photos.  Error -- Unreadable Files: 1   IMG_0434.JPG.   Ok...  Not sure what's wrong but when I go back to import photos there are now fewer to import.   Tried again.  Same error.  Even fewer photos to import again.  Tried to find the photo on the iPhone but despite the confusing array of presentation options there is no way to simply find one by file name.  And hence no way to delete the offending photo.  Or to import it.
Similarly there appear to be two movies to be imported but iPhoto reports "Error downloading image.  iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image."  Not helpful.  And again no way to remove the offending files.  No way to find them on the iPhone.  No way to delete them through iPhoto.
Oh, and is there still not any way to turn off the stupid events stuff?  This just causes more confusion for me when trying to enjoy my photos.  Alternatively can I import photos from my iPhone using another app and move them directly to the file system and eliminate iPhoto from my workflow altogether???

Can you access these images and movies with Image Capture (in the Applications Folder) ?

  • IPhoto suddenly unable to import photos from iPhone 4

For some odd reason, my copy of iPhoto 09 has suddenly lost the ability to import photos and videos from my iPhone 04. The import starts, then simply hangs (without iPhoto actually freezing). If I force quit iPhoto, I then receive a message saying saying certain imported photos have not been added to the library and asking if I want to import them now. I click okay, and a just couple of oddly duplicated photos appear. iPhoto also no longer sees my iPhone unless I restart. Some mysterious corruption? Is deleting the iPhoto plist file and/ or cache likely to make a difference?

After the upgrade to Yosemite, the upgraded iPhoto is no longer able to read and import pothos from my sd card.
Photos are shoot in Canon RAW format.

Does this happen if you try to Import to Library within iPhoto, or is it when you connect your camera (and which is set to automatically use iPhoto) that this error message occurs?
If you open Image Capture > Preferences is iPhoto selected as the choice when a camera is connected?

  • Having trouble importing photos from Panasonic Lumix cameras. No error message 1 just has spinning ball, other can import using menu but ends with spinning ball. using 9.1.5 Mac OSX10.6.8. Have to restart to access iphoto

Hi I am trying to import photos into iPhoto using two Panasonic cameras both Lumix (DMC TZ3 and DMC FZ30). Worked in the past no problem, I upgrade system when prompted and am running Mac OSX 10.6.8 with iPhoto 9.1.5.  When I attach cable from camera to Mac with the DMC TZ3 I get the spinning ball and nothing else and have to force quite and restart to access iphoto again without the spinning ball, with the DMC FZ30, when I plus in the cable I get an icon on the desktop and can go into iphoto and import the photos that way.  When the photos have been imported I get the spinning ball again and have to restart the Mac to access iphoto without the spinning ball.  Photos do import though.
Can anyone help, a really stupid, non-techie person who has no idea what she is doing, please?
    Thank you

    Try use a different cable.

HELP! Downloaded LR5 and when open it shows an error message saying error while trying to change from modules and I can not even import photos. Am I doing something wrong?

I have the same problem, and the solutions in   Error changing modules | Lightroom do not work.  Even uninstalling and reinstalling a new copy did not solve the problem.  As anyone got an idea what other lingering files might be causing the problem?

  • Error message when trying to import photos into Bridge CS5

Hi, when trying to import photos from a card reader into Bridge CS5, I click "get Photos" and get the following error message: "cannot obtain all files from this device. Please ensure the device is connected properly, or that the battery is charged". It imports a small selection of the images from the sd card but that is all. I'm currently using a Windows 7 desktop computer with plenty of ram.
    Any suggestions?

Hi station_two, thanks for your quick response.
I can confirm that its not the card reader/cable, usb port, defective sd card or the computer itself. I have already eliminated all these potential culprits through trial and error using different several ports/cards/readers and even a different computer (although not into bridge).
I am able to copy the photos from the same card/card reader into Lightroom on the same computer (incidentally, when using Lightroom it uses the term 'Import photos'!)
I am using a number of Panasonic Lumix Micro 4/3s cameras (GH1/GF1/GX1). The sd cards have a combination of RAW and JPEG and the problem exists whether using 4GB or 16GB cards. I have plenty of space left on my hard drive and as stated, I'm running a fast desktop PC (Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS) so I'm certain this is not the issue.
Could this possibly be a problem with the cache?
