Imported photos immediately have colors "off"

Probably a very simple problem, but I have just installed the program for the first time and do not yet know my way around it. But when I pull photos in from my digital camera directory, they immediately display a warmer orange hue. However, I have not touched any of the settings at all. If I immediately export the photo, it matches the original on my HD. So there seems to be some kind of calibration problem with the real jpeg colors and the colors on screen in Lightroom. What can I do about this?
FURTHER DETAILS:
When I hit IMPORT and have the photo selection window come up, all the colors are fine. When I select a photo and actually import it, the colors are orangey. Where the heck is this change of color coming from? All I have done is install the program! I haven't adjusted anything.

If your immediate exports are exactly the same as the original import then it’s unlikely you are applying an import preset (because the preset would be applied to the export). Is the colour cast apparent when opening the files using other image viewing applications e.g. Photoshop, Windows Gallery etc.
If so, then this may be a monitor colour management issue (Control Panel > Display Settings > Color Management).
If not, and this only happens in LR, then check Camera Calibration in the Develop Module. If your images do not have an embedded colour profile, then LR will select one e.g. Adobe Standard, Camera Faithful etc. Perhaps one of these causing the cast.

  • Problems importing photos with a color label.

    Hello:
I'm trying to import photos and assign a color label at the same time. My idea is to know what pics are just imported and put they into "status 0" of my workflow, that is, the pic is just imported and need to be accepted/rejected, then be classified, then made basic corrections, etc, etc. I'm going to change color labels to go from red to green status... a tipical workflow.
OK, this is what I did:
    Import pics:
    * I select the directory and create/assign a new metadata preset.
    * In this metadata preset I set author/creator and some other IPTC fields.
    * Also I put the word "red" in Label field.
    * Do the import...
    What I can see then:
The photos are imported and the red label is visible. You can see the red label in the grid view (at every photo's bottom) and also, at the bottom toolbar, you can see that the red label is checked. If you click at the small label at the photo's bottom you can see the small menu with the red label checked.
OK, it seems that the color label is imported but...
In the filmstring, if you filter to see only the red labeled pics... nothing is selected !! You have to unassign and assign again the red label and this time you can filter by color label.
What is happening ? Does Lightroom read the color label from two different fields from the metadata ? Is something not synched during the import process ?
    Regards,
    Javier.

Sorry if I couldn't explain correctly. English is not my main language...
I know you can assign names to the existing colors label and create different sets. I just create my own set.
What I'm refering to is to the Label field that is part of the basic IPTC data into a metadata preset. I'm not sure if it's the same field that is used to assign color labels.
What I did was to create a metadata preset, assign the word "red" as the value of the IPTC Label field and then apply this preset into an import. All the pics were imported with the red label set, so yes, it is possible to do the import and set the color label. The problem is that you can't use the filters that are into the filmstring view. So there is some mismatch here: the red color is shown at the bottom of the pics imported, but the filmstring filters can't "see" that the pics have this color label assigned.

  • IPhoto wants to import photos that have already been imported

A couple of days ago I upgraded my iPhone to iOS 5 - today was the first time since the upgrade that I've tried to import photos. I have about dozen or so new photos and videos on my iPhone to import, however iPhoto is showing 246 photos to be imported. The other 200+ photos were already imported from the iPhone (and have been in the library for a few years now) so why is iPhoto asking to import them again?? Shouldn't it recognize that it has already imported them?
I should note that I have over 2,000 photos in my iPhoto library; so not sure why it chose these particular 200+ photos to import again.
If I have no choice but to import those photos again, is there a way that I can check and get rid of duplicates in iPhoto? Short of manually searching and deleting them one-by-one?
    Thanks!

I've just found this discussion, I too have the same problem:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3429399
I have already submitted feedback to apple... Hope for the best..
Did anyone tried to manually move the newly imported video in the folder of the event where it belongs?
I am afraid of messing things up.. If it is a problem of "flagging" the file at the filesystem level maybe this could help.. but if the flagging happens at the iPhoto Library level... no hope:(

  • Imported photo all have three star ratings -- why?

When importing photos from a card reader into LR 1.1 on an Intel Mac the photos are loaded into Lightroom with three star ratings. Why is this happening and how do I prevent it in the future? I want the photos to come clean from the memory card.
After editing on my laptop on the road I want the images to retain the ratings I assign when I export them to an external hard drive and then import them to my desktop Mac for further work. I'm afraid that Lightroom will import all images into my desktop with three star ratings, thereby wiping out my earlier rankings.

Do you have more than one Computer? or can you install 1.2 under another user and try again?
Like I said, I have never heard of this sort of thing happening before And I have used LR since Beta 1.

  • Why does iPhoto delete my photos I have deleted off my memory card?

I have an 8 gb memory card for my camera. Sometimes I want to show pictures to people off my camera, so I don't delete all my photos off the memory card. I pick and choose. Recently, I was looking through iPhoto at old events and saw that the pictures that are no longer on my memory card were also no longer in iPhoto. This is extremely frusterating because I lost hundreds of pictures!! Does anyone know how to stop this from happening?

Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

  • Importing photos others have uploaded to my web gallery into my library

My web galleries seem to be working great...a few people have uploaded their own photos and they have synched down to my web galleries. But what is the best way to import my friends' photos into my iPhoto library? I want them to appear in my Events, not just under the Web Gallery section.
I tried to select my friends photos and copy them to my library and it didn't look like it worked, so I tried again. Then I noticed that all of a sudden I had 100 photos in my web gallery, when I only uploaded 20 and my friend added another 10. There were several duplicates of each.
Help! What's the best way to do this? Thanks for any help!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you publish a gallery as you indicated, hidden, visitors to your public web gallery will not see it and have access to it unless they are given the URL by you. Conversely, visitors to the hidden gallery will not have access to the other galleries from that hidden gallery.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How to import photos that have same date as existing photos in library?

I just received some photos from my dad that I've copied onto my mac, but am unable to import to iphoto. I get an error message that iphoto cannot create "/Users/haeyuonkim/Pictures/iPhoto Library/2006/05/23/FH020038.jpg"
I assume it is because there is already a folder with that exact date in the library.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or work-arounds.

    haeyounkim:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. iPhoto will import files with the same date and even the same file name. Each new import goes into a new folder. From that message it appears that you're running iPhoto 5. Am I correct? Is so you should be posting in the iPhoto 5 forum were users with more recent V5 experience will be able to help you.
It may be a permissions issue. Download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administartive name in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
    See if that will help.

  • Why can't I import photos saved onto my iphone hard drive onto my computer to delete them off my phone?

Every time I try to import photos onto iphoto I am only allowed to import photos I have taken on my iphone 5s, but not from my previous phone. I cannot upgrade my phone because I have so many photos on it. I want to delete the photos that were transferred onto my iphone from my previous phone, but I can't find them using my laptop.

I am struggling with similar difficulties.
I use an iMac G5 (Power PC) and a Canon PowerShot G6, which have been compatible with each other for 14 months. A couple of weeks ago, the Canon's rechargable battery ran low and, instead of connecting the camera to the iMac via the USB cable, I removed the SanDisk CompactFlash Ultra II card and imported photos on it via a SanDisk upload USB device. [The G6 manual recommends connecting the camera only when the battery is fully charged.] After the battery recharged, I took more photos and tried to upload them via the original Canon-supplied USB cable, but iPhoto did not launch. Because the camera turns on and indicates it's connected , I know it's not the USB cable [I actually ordered a new one, but the results are the same]. I've tried reformatting the SanDisk card in the camera, but this hasn't corrected the problem. However, if I connect the SanDisk device with card to the USB hub, iPhoto launches, identifying the device as "CANON_DC", complete with the little "eject" icon.
What am I forgetting? What would be the next step? Reinstalling the Canon software?

  • How do I import photos to iPhoto from a disk?

Hi,  I have tried multiple times to import photos from a disk off of an old (5 yrs old) Apple computer into my new (3 month old) Mac.  The only picture that will transfer is the first one.  I have put in the disk, "selected" all photos and tried to "import" photos.  It goes through saying that it is importing 300+ pictures but then the only one in the library is one photo.  What can I be doing wrong?   This seems so easy but it's driving me crazy!  Thanks for your help.

You may have trouble importing multiple photos off the disk for some reason. Try inserting your disk and after it appears on your desk top, open it and try clicking on a singel photo and dragging it onto your desk top. Then click on it and after opening iPhoto, click on the desk top photo and drag into iPhoto when you have "Photo" opened in iPhoto.
If that works and you cannot make the same proceedure work when you select multiple photos, you have a long road ahead just moving one photo at a time.
    Good luck...virg

I inserted a disk from my camera into my Mac book pro and No "import photos"message appeared. There was no camera icon either. I have eited and turned the computer off to remove the disk and then tried again to no avil. I have not been able to eject the disk at all as is suggested. i have to turn the machine off to eject. Help!
What should I do to be able to import photos?  Have I done something to make the camera icon disapper? It worked fine yesterday. Cannot stop airstream.

Just open iPhoto (double click oon iPhoto in your applications) and you should be set. It should show you all available devices that it can import photos from.

  • How can I import photos from Iphoto into my Ipad

I tried to import photos I have on Iphoto into my new Ipad, but there is no import feature on Ipad to do so unless you put them in some sort of a folder, which I do not know how to do.
    Can anyone help?
    ET

If you don't know how to use iPhoto, launch iPhoto on your Mac, and select iPhoto Help from the help drop down menu.
Read the article that KP has posted above and take a look at this below.
In the photo below, I have a checkmark next to sync photos. The folder from which the photos are syncing is iPhoto on my Mac. You can also see that I have clicked - selected albums, events, and faces automatically. These events, albums, etc will sync every time the way I have this set up.
I can also add new events or albums when I sync if I choose to do so. You have to select the other albums, events, etc. that you want to sync by putting a checkmark in the box next to the event and then click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes and they will transfer to your iPad.

  • Importing photos into multiple libraries

I have multiple users on the same mac, and was hoping there was a way to import photos and have them be added to all users' iphoto libraries. I know there are ways to share one library among many users, but I want all the users to be able to have separate libraries (ratings, albums, etc.) with new photos being added to all.
    Thanks for any help!

    Hi dave,
Easiest way is to download the photos using Image Capture. Put them in a dated folder. Import that folder into iPhoto.
Now drag that folder to your Shared folder where others can then import the folder into iPhoto from there. (I am pretty sure it will work this way)
You might even be able to choose the shared folder as the download folder with Image Capture, where you all can then import into your respective iPhotos from there. I keep all my folders of downloaded images named with the date and identifying text. when I have enough to burn, I burn them to CD or DVD. This is a good way to have a backup of just the images.
To find out more about Image Capture (it can do a lot more) Click on Help in the menu bar when Image Capture is open.

  • Since Apple's last Update on 6 June 2014, I have been unable to Import photos from any source. I receive a message saying, Importing photos but nothing happens. When I click on Stop Import, nothing happens. I must press the On/Off button to exit iPhoto.

Since Apples last update on 6 June 2014, I have been unable to Import photos from ANY source. When I attempt to do so, I receive the message "Import  Preparing to inmport..." I've waited 10 minutes but nothing happens. When I click on the icon, Stop Import, nothing happens. When I attempt to Close iPhoto i receive the message, "Photos are being imported to the photo library. Please wait for import to complete." When I click on OK, nothing happens. The only way I can exit iPhoto is to press the On/Off button.

After loading this file I was sucessful in importing photos from a web site, my camera memory card and a CD containing photos.
That is a good news.  We now know, that iPhoto is working as expected, when you are switching to a different library.
    But this is puzzling:
I then see a box with two Librarys listed, both have the same name except for the following and are listed as:
iPhoto Library.photolibrary but one has (default) after its name which is the one which is always displayed when I load iPhoto.
    Underneath the box is written:
    /Users/paulfkardian/Pictures/iPhoto Library.photolibrary
Underneath this are three boxes titled: Other Library    Create New    Choose
I highlighted the the File without the (default) after its name and clicked on Choose. A Library was loaded which had my photos (about 9,822) from about 7 months ago. Underneath the box is written diferently than the file always loaded and says:
    /Users/paulfkardian/Pictures (original)/iPhoto Library.photolibrary
You are having two "Pictures" folders in your Home folder, Pictures and Pictures (original)? And each has a different iPhoto library - one working correctly, and one not?  Do you remember, when this second "Pictures" folder has been created and what caused it?  Did you restore your Home folder from a backup some time ago?
