Imported photos not opening

After importing a photo from from email and closing i-photo, when I reopen i-photo I can't open the photo - it shows as an exclamation mark in a triangle - any tips?

That happens when iPhoto loses the link to the actual file.
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

iphoto photos not opening get black exclamation mark when open thumbnails

Not sure what you meant by "missing till" but all of the photos and movies are there. I concluded that searching for several photos by their file name and then opening them with Preview.
I'm pretty certain that I only used the Picasa desktop app to test using the Picasa web service for some family photos. I don't think I used it to edit any photos in the iPhoto library but I suppose it's possible that I did without really thinking about it.
Why to I have tiffs?  - As far as I know I don't. They are all jpg or mov files. I can't imagine why that error dialog said I was missing a tiff.
I just noticed based upon your suggestion to review the package contents. I have folders for Modified and Originals which I've seen before. But I also have folders for Photos - Modified and Photos - Original. I haven't seen those last two before. Moreover, all but 6 of my latest photos are in those last two folders. iPhoto can show me their thumbnails but can't open them. iPhoto can open the 6 photos in the "Original" folder. I didn't notice that before because they represent a very small portion of my library and I didn't select the right photos.
iPhoto Library Manager could see only those 6 photos in the Original folder. There are none in "Modified". So iPLM obviously can't see the photos in Photos - Modified or in Photos - Original. Looking at the Info for these two folders, I see they were created on January 7, well more than a month before I downloaded Picasa. Somehow all but 6 of my photos got moved to these new folders. I must have done something to cause this but I have no clue what.
Sorry this is so long but usually details are important. Do you recommend that I use the Merge Libraries function in iPLM?
    Thanks!

  • Imported photos- not going away?

Every time I open I photo, it says "54 photos remaining to be imported- import them now?" It doesn't matter if I say yes or no, the question always appears, and the photos have already been imported. How do I stop this?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Quit iPhoto. Use the Finder to look inside your iPhoto Library folder (in your Pictures folder by default). Just inside the iPhoto Library folder you may see a folder called Import. If so, drag it out to your Desktop. +Warning: do not make any other changes inside the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder.+ Launch iPhoto and see if the problem is resolved. You can use the Finder to look inside the Import folder, import photos you need and trash what you don't need.

  • Imported photos not showing up in iMovie

Not all of my iPhoto pictures can be seen in the photo dialog box in iMovie.  I have done a bit of research, and it appears that I am having problems with the photos I have imported.  Since I am working on a collaborative project where I get photos from other parties, importing photos is the only way I can get photos from other people.  Does anyone have a solution??  This is a bit urgent!!  I am using iMovie '09 with OS 10.9.1.

I'm not familiar with iPhoto since I don't use it, but if you want to use photos sent to you from others there is no need to go via iPhoto.  Just save the photos in some convenient folder and drag and drop the photo files with Finder directly into your iMovie timeline.

  • Lumia 625 - Photos not opening... :(

I had an 8GB SD card in my phone. When it filled up, I transferred everything onto my computer. I bought a 64GB and moved everything back onto it. But none of my photos are opening. When I open camera roll, all I see are grey squares. I even factory reset my phone but to no avail. The photos and videos appear on my computer but not the phone itself. Does anyone know what's wrong?

Were these photos shot with your phone camera? Not sure if this will solve the issue .. but try it..
Go to Lumia Camera-->(...)-->settings .. and tap on 'Find photos and videos shot with Lumia Camera' at exreme bottom ..

  • Import photos not working

I am a computer dummy! I have had no trouble until now importing photos from my camera. When I connect my camera to computer a message appears - 'The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer' with options under this asking Initialize Ignore Eject. Can anyone help me with this problem? The camera appears to be fine as I can import onto my laptop.

Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums
That is an OS message - not an iPhoto message
And note that all we know about your issue is what you tell us - so more is better
what computer are you connecting to?
    How are you connecting?
what laptop do you have that works?
How are you connecting to it?
Your Mac is not really seeing a camera - the camera is just acting as a card reader to mount the removable mass storage - the card
Since you can use the card on your laptop the first thing I'd try is downloading your photos to the laptop and then using the camera to reformat the card and see if that fixes it
If you are connecting via USB I'd try a different USB cable
I'd try a USB card reader
And depending on what your set up is and what you are trying there may be other things

The odds are you chose the logical file rather than the correct file as your external editor:

  • I PHOTO NOT OPENING FULLY

Had a software problem and took my powerbook to apple store where it was completely wiped clean and reinstalled all software ..... now when i open i photo
the pictures wont open fully and remain unclear as if they are were taken with a
1 million pixel camera you can see the pixels ie squares in the pictures ....some open ok but mostly they open in very poor quality ....they were all taken with the same camera on thre same settings any ideas

    David:
After reinstalling the software did you create a new library and then imported photos from your old library folder? It sounds like what you're seeing are thumbnail files that were imported as full size files. Check on and see what the size and dimensions are. Do you have the original library folder anywhere? If so then launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and, when asked, navigate to that original folder and select it to open. See what you get then.\

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Thanks TD - I did try your first option, but got the same error message. Unfortunately, I did not fully explain at my first attempt. The error message is :-
You can't open your current library using this version of iPhoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto
The Macbook is loaded with Snow Leopard, iPhoto '09, 8.1.1 but the iMac is loaded with Leopard, iPhoto '08, 7.1.5
When using the Macbook to access iPhoto library on the iMac a question was asked. I cant remember the exact words, but it was on the lines of :-
Do you want to up grade IPhoto?
to which I answered - Yes.

  • Import Dialog not opening when Camera Card inserted

Have set this option in LR2 preferences. However as I also have PS Elements 6 this loader opens instead. Have set auto play for the card reader to open LR to no avail. Have tried re-installing LR no change. Using Windows XP.
    Alan

Lee, I to have just discovered that the import dialog does not pop up. The help says it is supposed to work that way so I thought I had some kind of problem. Are you saying the help is wrong and it has been changed. Not documented?
I am also on Windows XP, SP2 and I cannot figure out how to make auto import work. Is there some set up that may not be documented on how to do this?
I mean I can always go file>import from disk or file>import from device but I was surprised to find the import dialog not pop up when a card is inserted. The check box is there in preferences>import to suggest along with help menu, that it should work.
    Appreciate any feedback.

  • Imported photos not right

I've imported photos from my camera into a new event, and if use the slider to change the picture size beyond a certain point, the pics disappear. If I move down small enough, the thumbnails come back. If I double click on a thumbnail all that shows up is a black window with an ! in it. Any suggestions?

Then the files have imported correctly but your database is damaged.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2

  • Importing photos not taken with iPhone on the Mac

    Hello everyone,
I would like to import my photos from iPhone - but those not taken WITH iPhone.
I'll explain: I have photos on my PC. I can sync them to the iPhone. I now would like to import these into iPhoto. Under Windows, I can import as soon as I plug in the phone or access its disk. How can I do the same in my Mac?
    Thanks,
    Beto.

You cannot import photos from the iPhone that were transferred to the iPhone from a computer via the iTunes sync process with a PC or a Mac. Photos transferred from a computer via the iTunes sync process is a one way transfer process only - from the computer to the iPhone. Photos transferred from a computer are optimized for viewing on the iPhone as part of the iTunes sync/transfer process - the original resolution of these photos is reduced on the iPhone, which is why the transfer of these photos in the opposite direction is not supported.
There are a number of other ways to transfer the full resolution photos from one computer to another.

  • Importing photos not through iphoto

is there a way to import photos into imovie without going through iphotos?

is there a way to import photos into imovie without going through iphotos?
Sure, easier done than said... Simply grab the photo you want at the finder level, "Drag 'n Drop" it directly to your open project window, and you're done.
