Imported Photos only show up as Rejected

Hey All,
Did some searching but couldn't find anything that described my problem. I recently imported photos from 3 memory cards into three separate new projects. All of the imports worked fine (was importing directly from camera) and I left Aperture to create the previews/thumbnails etc. I came back to everything completed and shut down the program.
The next day I notice the start up screen doesn't tell me I have any pictures that haven't been updated in a vault (odd because I hadn't updated with the newly added pictures). I find all the images in all three projects are not there. I go into the external drive that houses my Aperture library, 'Open Contents' etc and get to the new projects, all the photos are there physically on the drive, inside of my Aperture managed library but do not show up in Aperture at all. Nothing in my 'Added in last week' folder, nothing in Rejected folder, nothing in All Photos, and nothing in the individual projects. On a whim I decide to search rejected photos in each project. Low and behold there they are. Okay, I re-tag every photo with 1 star, they show up now in unrated or better, but this goes away when I re-boot Aperture. Now I have a bunch of photos rated at one star but only show up when I search 'rejected' in the individual projects and don't show up in any of other folders I mentiond or any other search.
I tried:
-updating Aperture
-copy/pasting the projects out of aperture library and importing whole projects.
-moving pictures to different projects
-re creating previews
Nothing has worked, anyone heard of this before?

Just to clarify,
1) is the problem limited to the same exact photos, no matter where they go in the Library?
2) Did you try making fresh new versions from the same masters, and deleting the old probelatic versions, to see if new versions had the same problem?
3) were all photos from the same import session affected, or, all imports from the same day?
4) Have you had any further problem with newer imports (test shoot & import)?
If "YES" to #1, there has to be a common link between these individual photos. It's highly unlikely that the master files are at fault, because rejects/ratings seem to be Aperture-specific metadata tags and therefore assigned only to the versions, not masters. See if generating new versions from the master file might fix the problem, but DO NOT lift-stamp any metadata from old problematic versions onto new ones.
Hope this helps narrow things down.
best,
Jin

  • Newly imported photos only show up in "photos" and not "events"

When I import photos, why do they now only show up in the "photos" section of my library, and not "events"? I see them in photo stream, but that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the left-hand column in iPhoto, the sections under "Library."  I saw on the answer to someone else's question that photos can only be in one place at a time, either "events" or photo stream, but then why are they also showing up in "photos"? And I use the "events" thing more than I do photo stream, so I'd like to be able to just automatically have all my events there--OR see photo stream organized by events as well. Does anyone have any suggestions?

why do they now only show up in the "photos" section of my library, and not "events"?
If they are in the Photos listing then they are also in Events somewhere. These are two view of exactly the same material - two windows into the same room, as it were.
Right-click one of the photos and select 'Show Event' from the resulting menu.

  • IPhoto 11 - older photos only show as thumbnails

I have upgraded both my MacBook Pros to iPhoto 11 and now some of my older photos only show as thumbnails and won't go full screen. I just get a triangle with a "!" on the screen.

Give the following a try.  This will create a library with all of the full sized master files that are currently inside your iPhoto Libray package:
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • Photos only show in 'places' map and not in regular photos location

I recently restored from an iCloud backup when moving to 5.1.1 and now most of my photos only show in Places, not the proper photos location. Is there any way to make them appear correctly?
    Cheers everyone

  • How can you shrink the size of an upright picture to make it smaller without losing any of the detail in it??? At the moment, if I view them on my laptop, landscape photos fill the screen, but portrait photos only show the middle part.

How can you shrink the size of an upright picture to make it smaller without losing any of the detail in it (in Slideshow)??? At the moment, if I view them on my Mac Laptop, landscape photos fill the screen, but portrait photos only show the middle part, so I loose the top and bottom of the picture.  Have tried cropping, but that means I lose top and bottom part of the picture, so that is not the answer!!

Homestly haven't a clue what's going on there.
Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

iMovie seems to have developed a glitch. When i try to import photos they show in the timeline but not in the movie.
    Any ideas?

You are probably looking in the wrong place - all photos in Photo view and in event too unless you have a corrupted library
most common cause of your not finding them is bad sort - view menu ==> sort events
Nest most common cause is a bad data/time on the camera - this can be corrected using a smart album to find the photos from that camera and then using using the adjust time/date command to fix the bad ones
YOu can alwasy find the event a Photo is in by selecting it and selecting show event

  • When I import photos they show up in the photo tab but not in events. Not sure what's going on.

Today I tried to import photos from my camera into iPhoto 11. No problems up until today. I imported the photos as usual, but they did not show up in the events section. I went to the Photo section and they appeared there. I could even name the event there, but it still wasn't visible in Events. The only way to get it to show up was to merge the events in the Photo section into an event that was appearing and then split the event. Very strange. I imported from my iPhone 5 with no problems.  Photos appeared in both Events and Photos.  Anyone else have this happen? Solutions? I called support and they did not have any suggestions other than to try to restart computer.  That didn't solve it.

  • Importing photos; only one appears

I saved numerous photos from Iphoto to C.D to save space on my computer.
I tried to re-import photos from Brazil to Iphoto. It seemed to work .
However, when I open I photo, I only find the first photo of the group of 45.
I want to use all 45.
    any ideas?

OK. It clearly shows that 54 slides were imported. They become a group, last imported.
Then, when I make this a slide show; it becomes a slide show of one slide.
There must be a setting somewhere.
I have several slide shows in my iphoto and they work well.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Imported photos not showing up in iMovie

Not all of my iPhoto pictures can be seen in the photo dialog box in iMovie.  I have done a bit of research, and it appears that I am having problems with the photos I have imported.  Since I am working on a collaborative project where I get photos from other parties, importing photos is the only way I can get photos from other people.  Does anyone have a solution??  This is a bit urgent!!  I am using iMovie '09 with OS 10.9.1.

I'm not familiar with iPhoto since I don't use it, but if you want to use photos sent to you from others there is no need to go via iPhoto.  Just save the photos in some convenient folder and drag and drop the photo files with Finder directly into your iMovie timeline.

  • Imported Photos not showing up in Library of I-Photo

I am converting old slides on a Wolverine SNaP converter.  The digital images show up in the "Last Import" window after importing them, and I can drag them into a folder I create, but when I go to the Library they aren't there.  Does anybody have a similar experience?  How can I get them to show up in the Library?

Thank you.  I did find it.  I am not familiar with the way things get organized in iphoto.  I expected new photos to show up at the bottom of the library as they usually do.  I still haven't found them when looking in the library itself but I did find them when looking at the events.

  • With last update to aperture  photos only show in photos and not in folders. Any idea?

With latest update my photos are only showing in photos and not individual projects. Though when I mouse over project it gives me number of photos? Any ideas?

Do you have a filter enabled? Anything other than Showing All in the search field?

  • Why don't my last batch of imported photos, that show up in "Last Import" show up in my Library? Not in Events or Photos....

I have never had a problem importing photos into iPhoto. Just this last time, I can't see my last imported photos in my library. Not in Events or Photos. When I try to import them again I get the message that they have alreadly been imported. And they show up under Recent and "Last Import" I even flagged them from Last Import and shared them. But I can't see them in the library. Weird. This has never happened before.
    Help.

If they are in Last Import then they are in the library.
Right click on one in Last Import and select 'Show Event'
The usual explanation is the date on the camera is off, or the Event sorting is not what you expect.
    Regards

  • Imovie 11 'import from' only shows built-in isight and not iphone

I just plugged in my iPhone 5 and iPhoto recognised it and imported OK.  However when I switched to iMove 11 th eimport box didn't pop up. So I clicked on the camcorder icon to import from the iPhone, but it only shows the built-in iSight camera.  I have restarted both iMovie and the iPhone (done a soft re-set too) but the import box does does not pop up automatically and the camcorder button brings the box up but no Iphone seen.  Interestingly it works fine with my wife's iPhone 5.  Any thoughts please?  How can I 'force' iMovie to 'see' my iPhone?

First make sure that there are still movies in the Camera Roll.
Another thing to try. Open Image Capture utilty and plug in your iPhone. You can set it so that the default app is NONE rather than iPhoto. So you can plug in your iPhone without iPhoto opening.
File/Import from Camera should work, but that is the same thing as the camera icon that you tried.
Another thing to try, since your wife's iPhone is working. Power down your iPhone all the way by pressing and holding the on button at the top, then swiping. Then restart the iPhone. And try again.
