Imported Sony MXF files are only 3 frames long.

I recently got a new system with Win7, CS4, and Matrox Axio LE.  I have the latest Axio utilities installed and I installed the 4.2 version of Premiere Pro.  I also installed the Sony XDCAM drivers for the PDW-U1 disc reader and the proxy videos play fine.
I have imported the same MXF files on an older, slower, less RAM, XP PRO system using CS3 without any problems.
The video was shot with a Sony PDW-F355 XDCAM HD at 35Mbit.
I'm curious if I'm missing a codec, driver, or something similar.  I did get a "DirectShow" error at one point.
If anyone has any ideas, even ridiculous ones, I'm willing try anything.
Thanks.
Jason

The above is free and can do a lot of video transcoding.
"Progressive footage do you mean 1080p? "
Yes that's correct.
Interlaced means 2 fields of video working together to display one frame.
The TV/Monitor scans lines 1,3,5,7,9 and so on for the first field then 2,4,6,8 for the next to create the frame.
Progressive displays one frame without this interlacing.
At 1080 you must use Interlaced eg. 1920 x 1080i.
Quicktime itself is like a container that holds stuff, think of a tin can and you decide what to put in there.
Quicktime holds lots of differing types of CoDecs (Compression/Decompression).
Codecs conform to exact standards and FCE understands some of them.
That's why whatever you use or transcode a file to, must conform to an FCE Easy Setup so it works seamlessly.

  • Stills exported back from Color are only 1 frame long

I think I know the answer- I'm just hoping it's not true.
Anyways. I have a 640x480 sequence of still images (tifs) set to music. I sent it to Color, and color corrected the stills. Then I rendered, and sent back to FCP. Only problem- the still images are only 1 frame long, and I can't change the duration in any way.
Where did I go wrong, first of all? Should I have exported a SCQT of each photo first, and reedited using that? I have no motion of effects on that photo.
Second of all, what's the best way of going from here. Do I need to regrade everything?
    Thanks for your help.

No, the stills likely have a different colour profile associated with them, which should be taken care of in FCP... but as QT, maybe not... COLOR not differentiating or loading any Photoshop-type profiling.
And, no, COLOR can't render tifs... It wants to render QT or dpx/cin.
You should have been able to create a new COLOR project with your razored SCQT and done a File... Import Color Corrections from the former project, if you had exactly the same number and order of clips in the resulting sequence. Sort of a one-click solution to saving them all one at a time and loading them one at a time...

at the end, you say "import preferences", which program are you describing?
So im safer using footage that is remotely being pulled from iphoto...
    vs
using footage that is imported into FCP from imovie?
Is there anything i can do in fcp to make this footage more reliable or safer or more stable as i pull remotely from iphoto?
All the footage, and all the libraries to all programs, or on a new pegasus 12tb raid 5 setup fyi.

  • I am trying to import for Sony RAW .mxf files in AE. I get an error message, cannot be imported - this.mxf file is damages or unsupported.

I am on a PC. AE version 12.1.0.168. It is updated.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem. We are working on a feature film shot on Sony F55 in 4K RAW.

Thanks. Now it works in PP and AE.

First, your AE needs to be updated. The current version is 12.2.1.5
If that does not fix the problem let us know.
Second question, are you using the Sony import utility? If not, give that a try. Last question, can you open the files in Premiere Pro? I hope you are not trying to cut a feature film in After Effects.

  • Is the prores file that FCPx creates when importing c300 .mxf files stable/quality enough to then copy to other drives for further use? Are there any quality disadvantages to doing that?

Im wondering if I can directly copy the prores files fcpx creates when importing c300 .mxf files from the "original media" folder, reimport them for another project to and use them that way. Is there any problem with working that way? I'm doing this bc I want to have an organize finder structure for a client but cant break the c300 card structure to split clips on a card into different "scenes" to make it easier for them to understand what they're looking at. This is all to stay NLE nuetral--we like fcpx but they might want to edit somewhere else and more details in the finder level seems like the best solution? Suggestions on any of that? Thanks.

Thanks for your response. Are you sure that FCPx is working with .mxf/c300 natively? I thought it was just a background sort of repackaging or transcode into prores that it does without you having a choice? And bc of that, for me, it's sort of a "back end" feeling file: I'm curious if it's bad to get into the package contents folder to copy it over? Not about copying prores in general-- specifically, is the prores created of c300 footage in fcpx more of a fcpx, high quality alias file? Maybe I'm just feeling a little uncomfortable grabbing things from the inside/finder level of fcpx.

Can you locate the iTunes Library.itl file on the old drive? Ideally you would have simply copied over the entire iTunes folder structure from <User's Music> on the old computer into <User's Music> on the new one to transfer the library will all playlists, ratings, play counts etc. intact.

  • Imported PAL VOB files are misinterpreted as 540 pixels high

I'm trying to import PAL VOB files into an FCP 5.0.4 sequence and though the import and playback goes well, the files are wrongly reported as being 720x540 instead of 720x576, leaving me with unusable footage because the interlaced PAL video is rendered with horizontal stripes of alternating interlaced/fused fields.
The only way to restore some degree of quality to the footage is to apply an anti-flicker filter at maximum strength, but it's a crummy solution considering the video height should have been properly interpreted in the first place.
Could someone please tell me how I can import these vob files with their proper dimensions?
    Thanks for any help.

  • Importing Avid MXF Files to short in Premiere CC

    Hi there,
We are importing AVID Media Files MXF from MXF Folder into Premiere Pro CC 2014 and the longer clips are to short. All the long clips ends at 4min. 55 sec.
We were exporting the Files from AVID 8.3.0 as AFF, then importing in Premiere CC 2014 and linking the video files to the MXF Folder of AVID.
We tried also to consolidate all the clips from AVID again into a special folder, make a new AFF export and then import and link all again. But it gives us the same result.
Would be great if anybody knows a solution. The problem seems to be the import of the MFX Files into Premiere CC. The Export from Avid seems to be OK.
    Regards

As Apple Inc.’s desktop and server operating system for Macintosh computers, OS X Mountain Lion (version 10.8) is the ninth major release of OS X. It’s quick, familiar, cheap, and drenched in iOS goodness. However, after updated and installed Mountain Lion on Mac, many Final Cut Pro (mainly FCP X and FCP 7) users found they could not import mts, mxf, ect files into FCP anymore.
You can try to redownload and reinstall the FCPX. If not, you can contact after-sales service to get a free way to solve the problem.
You also can ignore the problem and download and insatll a MXF Converter to convert MXF to FCP's antive format ProRes before importing. I have been using Brorsoft MXF Converter for Mac, it work fast and it can keep the original video quality for editing. Besides, the conversion process will help you to save the rendering time. The most important is that it has five types of Apple prores codecs for choosing.

My guess is that you are using the ObjectFile loader, which is for a (don't remember which application) object (.obj) file, rather than using a 3ds loader, which would be for loading a .3ds file.
You might want to go to this page: http://www.j3d.org/utilities/loaders.html and download the correct loader.

CS5.x is obsolete software and is no longer supported by Adobe ever since CS6 was released.  The last version of the Camera Raw plug-in to run with CS5.x was ACR 6.7.1. There will be no further updates for CS5.x.
You need to look for, download, install, launch and run the free, stand-alone Adobe DNG Converter 8.8 on each batch of raw files that cannot be opened in ACR 6.7.1.
    Adobe DNG 8.8:

  • Can I import Sony .mts files with seperate audio layer into AE?

I can import .mts files from my Sony SR11 OK but the audio is in the same layer as the video content.
When I go to Edit/Edit in Adobe Audition and Audition opens Audition reports in details box, "Error:File not supported by any currently registered plug-ins."
The Audition Audio Plug-in Manager shows no available plug-ins.
Can I import the .mts file as seperate layers as one can with Premiere Pro? Alteratively perhaps, what plug-ins should I look for to add to Audition?

AE doesn't separate audio. You'll have to do it elsewhere, possibly in Premiere Pro or tools like ffmpeg/MPEGStreamclip. It's odd, though. since these components are the same in all the suite apps, a file that works in AE should just the same open in AU (without showing teh video in teh worst case). .mts is just MPEG2 or AVCHD in disguise, anyway, which the apps should open without a hitch - if it's not out of spec. I'd look into your camera settings, though. maybe you recorded to the wrong channels or an odd audio sampel rate and it's messing things up.

  • Import of MXF files cuts off at 30 seconds.

I am having trouble importing MXF files, the import cuts off at 30sec. I cannot import clips that are longer than 30sec. because FCPX cuts them off after 30sec. What am I doing wrong?

What kind of MXF?  What camera shot the footage?

  • Which versions of FCP can import the .m2t files? Only 7?

I understand FCP7 has a Sony HDV codec that will create .mov files via "Log and Transfer". Does anyone know if this is the only vers. of FCP that can do this?

Streamclip works good for my immediate purposes - but agreed, I would prefer to get a hold of an HDV deck and digitize myself next time.

Does anyone know if the Canon Vixia HV30 can shoot non-HDV footage to a regular miniDV tape? Just trying to see if my client can shoot future footage in regular def. to avoid this editing issue in the future. These videos are only winding up as little web clips.
