Imported still photo to fit 16:9

I am trying to find a way to import a photo (jpeg or tiff) and having it fills up
the 16:9 screen. I even tried sizing up the photo in photoshop but it would
still not fill up the whole 16:9 screen. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I ran into the inverse problem only it was limited to a subset of the pictures. All the pictures where 1080 high, and in their original aspect ratios, lower than 16 x 9. Most of them were just presented in their correct aspect ratios, but the subset was stretched to fit the entire 1920 x 1080 frame.
First I checked the manual and noticed that this behavior contradicts what the manual says the software will do. I then noticed that all the pictures that prompted the erroneous stretching behavior were 4 x 3, 1440 x 1080, so I tried first extending the canvas with black fill to change the aspect ratio. That didn't work even when I matched the aspect ratio of pictures that did not evoke this behavior. I then tried cropping to get close to the portrait mode pictures that never had the problem.
None of the above worked, so I resorted to extending the canvas of all the originally 4 x 3 pictures to 1920 x 1080 by extending the canvas horizontally in photoshop. As wasteful as that is, it worked. On the plus side, JPEG should be pretty efficient at encoding pure black.
It sure would be easier if the software did what the manual says.
For your problem, just make the pictures 1920 x 1080, or whatever resolution you are using and that should do it. HD uses square pixels. If you don't care about the aspect ratio, make the 1440 x 1080 and DVDSP will stretch them out to cover the frame.

  • Imovie 3 crops imported still photos

I'm trying to make a slide show of still images. Imovie 3 crops my imported photos (NOT from iphoto) to fit screen, instead of shrinking photos to fit. How to correct? Thanks.

Thanks, everyone. Ken Burns WAS off; I ended up just re-sizing my images in photoshop before importing.
BUT whether I import via iPhoto or just from my desktop, the images are really pixelated when played back on Quicktime player. Will it look different after burning to DVD? The images are 1280 x 960, 150dpi. And BTW, you DO need to embed a color profile, at least in this experience.
    Thanks again.

  • Help! iMovie isn't importing still photos properly. I get multiple copies of the same photo!

Hello all. iMovie is acting very ornery, and I need help -- or I'll never get my 2011 slideshow completed in time!
I am trying to import several still photos into my movie project. In the past, I have simply dragged and dropped the appropriate photos from the iMovie photo browser into my project. Everything works — the way it should be with Apple products.
Suddenly, iMovie doesn't want to play nice. No matter what photos I drag into the timeline, iMovie inserts multiple copies of one of the video clips that's already in my movie. The photos don't show up. If I play the movie, I get a blank screen where the photo/video should be.
Is anyone else experiencing this probem? Is there an easy way to fix it?
The following picture and text should help explain what I'm doing:
Here are the steps I'm taking:
    1. I select one or several photos from the iMovie photo viewer (on the bottom right-hand side of the window.) -- In this case, I've selected 10 very different photos.
    2. I drag the photos into the project.
    3. iMovie appears to import the photos.
    4. I see 10 identical thumbnails in my project. They appear to be the same as the very last video clip in the project. However, when I scrub these thumbnails, or play the movie, I see a black screen.
I've tried dragging the photos directly from iPhoto, or from the desktop, and still the same thing happens.
    HELP!
    Dave

Thanks wesehrt. I had one jpeg such as "ALL_CAPS.jpeg" --- straight from my iPhone, imported/tweaked in Aperture no less ... and renamed it without the underscore and it worked.
But I wasn't getting multiple copies or black screens. The image would import and I'd see the thumbnail in the project timeline, but what actually rendered was the last frame of the preceding video clip.
Bizarre bugs with photos importation here.

  • Problem importing still photos from digital camera.  Any help please?

I wanted to put together a little Premier Pro CS5 project using 20 stills from my Sony digital camera.  When I go through the various options to import them
into my project (Import, Import through Bridge, etc) I get 20 different file names in the Project panel but instead of 20 different photos (as expected) I have 20 copies of the same photograph.
Wow, that is frustrating.  The closest item in the support logs I could find was this one (see below), but that work around is both over my head and very time consuming.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/730233
I found another discussion along these same lines and it appears that no solution has been found.
I hope I am not asking too much of my $1,000 software program to say, "Please pull in these 20 pics so I can work with them in the timeline."  I just want to hit import and go.
I am using a Win7 computer with a Sony camera taking 3 mega-pixel shots.  Again, all looks to be going well (all 20 filenames in project panel are different) but when those files are opened they are all the same picture.
I've rebooted, opened and close PrPro, tried renaming the pics from the standard dsc123.jpg convention to something else - all to no avail.  I would find it hard to believe that a program this powerful could struggle with such a simple chore - am I doing something incorrect?
    Thank you for any help!
    Stuart

More info about the issue.  This is also a hit-and-miss error, as once you find a way that will appear to work and you say to yourself, "Finally!  I figured it out!"
But once you go to the next photo to pull it in and get on with your project you find that you are pulling in multiple copies of the same picture as the one
    you just pulled in.
This same problem occurs if you attempt to import using the Media Browser, and as an interesting footnote, the Media Browser window has a drop down
list.  When you click each of your different file names, there it is - the same picture.  I've invested 1.5 hours in attempting to find a work-around by importing, renaming, saving, right-clicking, using context menus - everything my 43 years of computer use can muster - but still no luck.
The last time that I created a project similar to this (a mix of video and stills) it worked just fine so that is even more of a head-scratcher for me.
I even went back and re-imported the pics that worked fine into the project that I am struggling with and they came in fine - no duplication.  But vacation pics are the only copies I have and I just need to import these 20 shots and get to work on them.
I would be willing to let someone get my IP address and connect directly like my IT folks at work do so they could see what is going on with this.
Thank you again for any assistance!

  • Problem importing still photos taken off Internet

I want to use a few photos I've found on the Internet with my movie. Trouble is, when I click and drag them into iMovie, more often than not they turn out to be very weak images--all fuzzy and stuff. I checked the dimensions as well as the size, and most of them are quite big. But even the big ones end up being fuzzy and out of focus. Every now and then, though, a photo will be fine. What am I missing here? Thanks.

Check to make sure that when you download the image from the internet you are downloading the +actual picture file+ and not the thumbnail of the picture that is on the web page.
    Hope this helps.

  • Still photos imported to imovie change to solid green

i'm using all the newest versions of iLife and Aperture (as of 11/13/13)... i use iMovie to make slideshows from my photography because i like the controls better than in Aperture or iPhoto... however, since upgrading to Mavericks and all of the new iWorks, iLife, Aperture on my Fall 2011 MBA, when i import still photos into iMovie to make a slideshow, they have a propensity to be rendered, at least in previews, as solid green images (think green screen)... i'm using jpeg images that have been exported to a separate file from my Aperture library, all using RGB color... there seems to be no rhyme or reason to which ones render incorrectly and which do not... sometimes the thumbnail image appears as the solid green, most of the time, though, it will appear as a standard thumbnail image, but show up green on the preview screen. I have not tried actually exporting the project as a quicktime movie to see what happens. I have tried closing and reopening imove after import, but that seems to make no difference.  if i delete the files and reimport, sometimes they will import correctly, but often they do not.
My iMovie files, as well as the exported jpg's are all located on my internal SSD. Is anyone else having this kind of thing happen?

I have been having the same problem with iMovie and the iPhoto library, where the imported pictures turn to solid green.
What I tried was to convert the photos to a video fileand import into iMovie - this is what I did:
    - I opened up iPhoto and created a slideshow with the picture (or pictures) to be added to the iMovie project.
    - Then I exported the slideshow to the desktop (or wherever you want) which creates a video file. I noticed it is      mpeg-4 format, and I do not see anywhere to change this format.
    - Back in iMovie, I imported the new video into the project either by Import Media or dragging it in, I guess either      way works.
This seems to work for me so far, even though I'm still experimenting. But I am still disappointed in this, since it only happened since the upgrade to Mavericks and iMovie 10.

  • Resolution of still photo

What size files are best to import still photos into Imovie from Iphoto. I work from raw in Photoshop, import to Iphoto and then Imovie. When I go to play the still photos the images look like ****, as opposed to the images in Iphoto. These photos come from a large file size so why do they look like a pixel puzzle when they are fine in Iphoto slide show?

    Welcome to the forum, Stanley.
There are lots of factors that can affect image quality. Including the possibility is that the quality is fine but iMovie doesn't let you see it.

  • OS X does not recognize DV camera in still photo mode.

Using iMovie, I can import DV movies from my Samsung SC-D453 mini-DV camcorder over a Firewire connection. But when I switch the camera to photo mode, OS X tells me there is nothing connected to the Firewire port, and I cannot import still photos from the Mini-DV camcorder. The camcorder has a USB 2 port, but I do not have a USB 2 port on the G4 so I cannot connect the camera over USB. USB is what I use with my Olympus digital camera to import still photos. Works fine. Any ideas on how I can get still photos from a mini-DV camcorder over a Firewire connection?

    Welcome to the Discussions.
USB 2.0 is often backward-compatible with USB 1.1.
They also use the same connector cables.
You could try using your Mac's USB 1.1 ports.
It might work, but will be slow.

  • Still photos incorporated into imovie

i have reg photos that i want in a movie project along with video. is this possible to import still photos? if so how please.

    HI -
Are your still photos loaded in iPhoto?
If so, in iMovie, click on the button that looks like a camera on the left hand center side of the iMovie window:
The will allow you to access and use all your photos from IPhoto in your project. Just click on the photo you want to use and drag it to the project, you should be good to go.
    Hope this helps.

I have Lightroom 4 and a new 70D camera and when I try to important my photos Lightroom says it doesn't recognize my CR2 files.  Can someone help?  I have downloaded 8.3 from Adobe, but still doesn't work?

Lightroom doesn't use the Camera Raw plug-in. All of the Camera Raw technology is part of the Lightroom program. You will either have to upgrade to Lightroom 5 or use the DNG converter to create digital negative copies that can be used with Lightroom 4.

  • I figured out how to snap a still photo of a movie clip, but where then does it go, and how can I import it into my iPhoto library?

I was working in iMovie and discovered how to take a still photo of a movie clip.  Now I can't find that still photo!  Where did it go, and how can I import it to my iPhoto library?

Just found out and it is simple.  When you find a frame in your video/movie of which you want a still photo or screen shot, just go to the frame and click on command, shift and the #3 in quick succession.  You will hear a "click" like a camera taking a photo.  The screen shot will then go to your desktop where you can drag it to iPhoto or an e-mail, or anywhere you like.  Also you can rename the screen shot by double clicking on the wording under the screen shot on your desk top. Whew!

  • Since my last software update, my iphoto 11 will not import any photos from any source. The circle just spins...when I go to force quit, it says iphoto not responding. Backed up iphoto library, uninstalled and reinstalled iphoto. Still not working. Help!

Since my last software update, my iphoto 11 will not import any photos from any source. The circle just spins...when I go to force quit, it says iphoto not responding. Backed up iphoto library, uninstalled and reinstalled iphoto. Still not working. Help!

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Still photo fit to song?

I have put up an still photo and an song. The song is longer than the photo on the timeline. How do I make the photo last till the end so to seaak?
    http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/4423/audioimage.gif

You can use a nested sequence and Fit to Fill, to fit the multiple pictures to the song length:
    - create a new sequence
    - drag all pictures from the browser to that new sequence
    - go back to the main sequence and insert the song, for example into tracks A1 and A2
    - select the song clip, and press x: this sets its sequence IN and OUT points to the song edges
    - make sure the v1 plug on the left of the timeline is connected to a free video track (say V1), and a1, a2 to some free audio tracks (say A3, A4, since your song is in A1, A2)
    - drag the new sequence with pictures from the browser to the Fit to Fill green area in the canvas: it will fit the song (IN to OUT) duration as required
    - now you can remove the empty audio clip linked to the nested sequence: unlink the nested sequence (cmd-L) and remove just its audio.
(note that if you add or remove pictures from the new sequence, you have to repeat the fit to fill steps to see them in the main sequence)

  • When I import a vertical still photo from elements 11 to premiere 11, it rotates to horizontal.

How do I prevent this rotation so the photo stays vertical?

    neilkess1
Are these stills from a cell phone or camera/camcorder? JPGs? What are their pixel dimensions?
How are you importing these photos into Premiere Elements 11? What project preset are you or the program setting for this project?
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 11 running on? And, whether Windows Explorer or other, what is the orientation of the still at its hard drive save location?
Depending on the circumstances, you may end up having to rotate the still on the Expert workspace Timeline by selecting it, rotating it via Applied Effects/Applied Effects Palette/Motion Panel expanded, and scrolling down in the Motion area to use the Rotate feature there.
We will be watching for your follow up.
    Thanks.
