Imported .swf publishes as a relative link. Can it be embedded?

So I have created a small .swf animation in Flash CS3. I
imported into my CP project. When I publish, the .swf is published
as a separate .swf and linked to the CP .swf with a relative link.
This will not work for me. How can I embed the animation into the
CP .swf? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Ethan Evans-Hilton and welcome to our community
You will probably need to export the Flash using Flash 7 as
the target and ensuring only ActionScript 2 is used. Once you do
this, it should then embed as part of the main Captivate, so long
as you take care to Publish your Captivate using a Flash 7 target.
Cheers... Rick

  • Moving a SWF containing relative Links no longer work

    Hi
    I've come to the experts.
    I created a Flash Catalyst Project that contains external URL links. I actual want them to be internal relative links.
    I've followed the process of using to Flash Builder to edit the Main.mxml file to change to a relative path.
    I hit the Project/Export Release Build...
    I open the SWF file in Flash Player from with in the 'bin-release' folder and it all works great. However when I move the swf file to another folder that actually contains what would be the same relative path to the files I want to link it no longer works.
    If I look at the content of the swf file in a third party editor/viewer app the relative path is correct.
    I'm probably missing something very fundamental but just can't 'click' to it, pun intended.
    Thanks for your assitance
    David

    Hi Bear
    Thanks for your help.
    I've referred to both the references your below. Both were useful but still the issue remains.
    When I relocate the swf file with all the associated src files it doesn't work
    As a further test I pointed the 'Project Export Release Build' from Flash Builder to the actual folder I wanted the swf file in and again it didn't work
    If however I point the 'Project Export Release Build' to //documents/Adobe Flash Builder 4/bin-release  it does work
    Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi , my problem is that i can only create absolute links to other pdf-files in a main pdf-file. how can i switch to or create relative links. Thanks for help!

    I’m using version 11.0.10. So where the Menu resides in a folder ready to be burnt on to a CD, that same folder is where the links point to.
    Thanks

  • After new update we can not keep the "related links" off the screen. We uncheck it but it still keeps coming back.

    Every time we start Firefox, the "related links" are on the screen. We uncheck the box and it goes away. But the next time we use it, the related links are back. I cannot see why we would have to reset this every time we use the program. It is not a serious thing but surely is aggravating.

  • Can Adobe Interactive PDFs play sound from imported .swf files

    Hello.
    I'm really really stuck, can anyone help? I'm on 10.8.3 using In Design CS6
    I am trying to get an interactive PDF with imported .sfw files with sound to play ....the sound. Preview is fine in the working file - but as per the previous query on thishttp://forums.adobe.com/message/4772574 - The interactive PDF loses the sound. I tried installing ezPDF - but it's an app and I don't know how to install it to work (I think it's meant for  iPADs). So...does anyone know if I can have an imported .swf file play when exported to an Interactive PDF and also work on an end users PC?...should I be able to install ezPDF reader on my MAC and get everything working?
    Any help would be good as this is day 3 having called Adobe on Day 1 which was fruitless.
    Thanks

    Really hard to say without seeing the whole project, but my guess is that you have moved your exported SWF somewhere from it´s original location (where you exported it to) without moving Resources folder to same target location too... when you place video, audio or SWF to your layout, indesign does not embedd it to resulting SWF. Those files will be stored into a resources folder which always has to be at same root with exported SWF. Media files will be loaded dynamically from that folder at runtime.
    So you can guess what happens if that folder does not exist....

  • Imported swfs display different every time

    Hello -
    I have tried importing swfs, and each time it displays different when published. The first time, it resized and could be seen completely within the window. The second time, it did not resize so only the top left of the image could be seen. The third, time it sort of resized, but is still cut off on the bottom. I inserted the same swf file the same way each time, so I'm not sure what affects the way it displays when published. I'm using the trial version of Presenter version 7.0.7 Build 7746. The swfs were created in Captivate 5.0, and I'm using Office/PowerPoint 2010. Below are examples of what each looks like after the publish. Does anyone know how I can control how the swf will display once published?
    Thanks!
    Katherine

    Hello -
    I think it has to do with resizing the swf once it is imported. I resized it first by widening it so it went the entire width of the page - the second time I believe I did the same thing and got the larger image. Then I tried various ways of resizing and also not moving or resizing at all, and got these different results. It is not consistent, the same way of resizing did not result in the same output. Is it not possible to resize the imported swf - for example, resize so it takes up the entire slide? Below is a link to download the swf I'm using.

  • How to insert AS to fix audio in imported swf ?

    Thanks to Whyves... This previous post seems to have a solution, Im just not sure where i create layers in my Captivate 4 file? As I go into Project > Actions >???
    Cheers

    Re: Captivate 4, interaction SWF using XML and the Reviewer tool Problem
    Part 1:
    Found a way to stop the imported SWF audio when a user switches slides. The following AS3 code was inserted into the imported swf:
    My actions layer:
    root.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, checkSlideInfo);
    My functions layer:
    function checkSlideInfo(e:Event):void {
        /* if user moves to next or previous slide in Captivate, stops the interaction audio */
        if(root.cpInfoCurrentSlide == 4) {
            null
        } else {
            /* stops audio */
            if (savedChannel!=null) {
                savedChannel.stop();
            /* resets interaction */
            loadContentToBox(contentBox.contentText, instructions);
    So, for those trying to find a way to stop their audio from imported swfs, there's one piece to the puzzle!!! You CAN stop your imported swf audios or animation audios using the above function in AS3!
    BTW, it would be nice if Adobe would create a book on Essentials to Advanced Actions, just a suggestion since it is somewhat of a programming language and it would be nice to have samples and more informative tutorials to use.
    NOTE: The above function calls on other variables and functions are specific to the interaction. The main piece to focus on is the roo.cpInfoCurrentSlide. It had to equal slide 4 in order to allow the interaction swf audio to play. If the user switched, I stopped the savedChannel (named soundChannel variable in AS3) from playing.

    Hello,
    About your suggestion for a book on essentials for advanced actions. Rick Stone has such a book, for Captivate 4 (Goober Guide).  I have been blogging a lot about advanced actions, with links to tutorials published with Adobe Publishing Application. It is not a book, but could perhaps help you if you did not yet visited the blog. The feedback from readers is pretty positive. Here is a link to a post that has a list with the published articles, a lot of other blog posts explain use cases and principles:

  • Import swf files in CP3, but export without any voice?

    Did anyone have the same problem with me?
    I imported swf file in slide and published. But I can't hear any voice in the slide....
    At the same time, I tried to import as flv file and published, then it works. Voice in slide can be heard with no problem.
    How can I fix the problem? thanks!!

    Hi,
    Just a quick check. Go to menu item " Edit > Preferences" and select category "Publish Settings".
    Confirm that option "Include Audio" is checked.

  • Import SWF's that use components

    I'm using a
    Flipping Book component in
    Flash that's really cool, and I'm trying to get the exported SWF
    into Director.
    When I import the SWF, everything in it works except the
    flip-book component. It just doesn't show up.
    My only guess as to the problem is that maybe Director
    doesn't like importing the components with the rest of the SWF....
    Has anyone else had an issue like this, and perhaps can
    suggest a solution?
    Thanks

    Flash MX Professional 2004 (v 7.2)
    Director MX (v 9.0)
    The component does not link to any external files. It simply
    references "linkage" names from the library. It functions well as
    an SWF in or out of a browser, and as an .exe projector file.
    I have tried both fully importing the swf into Director, and
    just linking to it. The result is the same: the component doesn't
    show up. This Flipping Book is not the only component that shows
    this behavior - I think it's a component problem in general.
    I just did a test where I tried importing an SWF into
    director which used the ScrollPane component. There is nothing else
    in the SWF other than the component instance and the library clip
    that is scrolls. The swf worked fine by itself or as a projector,
    but import it into Director and the component just doensn't show
    up. There is an outline on the stage where it should be, but the
    scrolling content doesn't appear - and I've tried having the
    component itself link to an external swf file as well as an
    internal library clip.
    Is something not being compiled correctly during the import?
    I'm stumped...

  • Why an imported SWF created in Flash CS5 doesn't works fine?

    perhaps I am not lucky. I find no answer.. perhaps im a noob (daaaah)  please if you can help it would be appreciated!
    I'm new in flash and flash catalyst.. but i'm not bad at all hehe. After publishing a swf from flash CS5 (that works perfect when i preview it) i want to import it in flash catalyst...
    ... i click on import swf and i select my swf. When i execute the project (CTRL+ENTER) in flash catalyst the motion tweens created in Adobe Flash doesn't start
    Even if it works well when i run the SWF from desktop or in Adobe Flash directly

    A detail that could help you guys..
    I used FlashEFF2 in Adobe Flash CS5 (as a Text Effect (it's awesome)) and this effect only starts and works fine in Flash Catalyst. The motions tweens created in Adobe Flash CS5 doesn't starts in Flash Catalyst
    Thanks to read it!

  • Undesired Root Relative Link

    Document relative link changes to root relative link in new documents created from a template. When saving changes to the template, this link changes back to document relative in the new document. The link points to the content source for an iframe.
    What will I have to do to make this link remain a document relative link? Making and undoing a change to the template and re-saving it every time a new document is created constitutes a workflow problem. It also unnecessarily updates all other existing documents based on that template and uploads all of them to the server during synchronization.
    I looked through the preferences and couldn't find anything that I might have accidentally changed to cause this phenomenon.

    Ah - that's not a root relative link, it's a file:/// link (I don't think there is any name for it), and it's definitely wrong if you are finding it in a file that you have SAVED.  But it's how all links in a newly created child page will look BEFORE IT'S SAVED.  Once you have saved the file within the site, then DW can manage the links so that they reflect the location where you saved the file.
    I do that because the links in the header's navigation change whenever new content is added to a category and the current content moves to the archive. So far I changed the links in the basic template and re-uploaded all the child pages. That's getting a little too much already, so I want to have to update only a single file with the header that the iframes in the uploaded pages are already linked to.
    Good golly man, use Server-side includes, not IFrames!  This kind of this is exactly what SSI is for.
    Not all child pages are at the same level. Most are just one folder down from the top, others are two and even three folders down. That's why proper updating is important. I may stick with the absolute URL.
    You must use real ROOT relative links in the include files - then all things will work.  With a root relative link it doesn't matter where the page carrying the link is located within the site.

  • Imported SWFs background to "Transparent" in Presenter?

    Is it possible to set an imported SWFs background to transparent within Presenter?  I have Presenter 7, PowerPoint 2007, Flash CS4, working in Windows Vista.
    The only way I know to set SWF transparency is with the WMode parameter... so, in PowerPoint, if I right-click the imported SWF and choose "Properties" I get the Properties window which contains a field WMode.  I set this to "Transparent", but when publishing the Presenter file to "My Computer" the original SWF background (white in this case) still shows up.
    My PowerPoint has a gradient background, and my SWF file's stage is smaller than my PPT stage.  Making teh SWF BG transparent will allow me to place the SWF wherever I need to on the PPT stage without having to worry about lining up background gradients precisely.
    Any help is appreciated.

    So, not even 4 years later, and after 2 new versions of Flash can we still not produce a transparent background to be able to seamlessly go in a Powerpoint 2010 file?  I imported a single/looping file under the <Insert Tab. It had a transparent backgound and a playhead with start/stop on it. Can't remember how I did it though?
    Thanks,

  • Actions not working to imported swf files in Flash Catalyst

    Hi,
    I have a problem with manipulating my imported swf files (created in Flash professional) in Flash Catalyst CS5. Whenever I add any of the swf control actions to a swf file in the timeline such as 'stop', the animation ignores it and keeps replaying. I tried to add action sequence when a certain button is pressed, and also tried to create 'On application Start' and added 'stop' so that the animation stops immediately when the application opens. No matter what I do, the animation refuses to perform the actions and simply replays. The animation is a simple shape tween between 2 states with no action script attached to it. I published the animation as an swf and exported it to Flash Catalyst. Is there any suggestions whatsoever on why this is happening? Is it something to do with setting up my flash file prior to import? The only way I figured out to stop the animation from playing is adding action script to the flash file in Flash Professional however this is not what I want because I would like the animation to be controlled by components in my flash Catalyst document.
    Thanks

    You can make you swf a custom component with 2 states.
    The first state will be empty and rename it "OFF" the second state will have your swf file and name it ON.
    Then go back to your artboard/project, add your 2 buttons ON & OFF.
    For the ON button add interaction "play transition to custom component ON"
    For the OFF button add interaction "play transition to custom component OFF"
    Here is an example swf_control

  • List of Conferences to publish Programming (Java) related stuff

    Hi,
    I have changed class file format such that rt.jar (from jdk 1.6.) size is reduced to around 80%. I have named this new format as TAK.
    Note that I have:
    * Not use any compression. That implies files are nor jarred or pack200 compressed, neither any other compression techniques have been used)
    * Not removed any information from Class files. That implies all the debugging information, dead code etc are still present in TAK files.
    * One can convert those files back to original jar file with exactly same data/format. I have not yet written code for it but I will soon support this too.
    * One can reduce size ever further by using any compression technique (including jar and pack200). It is because they are not already compressed.
    * One can make TAK format executable by writing a new JVM that recognize it
    I think this work is publishable. However, I have two questions.
    1) Can someone please tell me list of conferences where I could publish such work. I have so far never published programming related stuff and have only published protocols etc.
    2) Can someone please tell me some well known Java code that I can use to produce detail results? What I need is some list Java-projects that are well-known to the community and I could show my results on them.
    Looking for your reply.

It is because I am from a country where everyone asks and help each other. I will find answer of those questions myself, if no one helped me but first I will like to ask. Why you think this is bad?Because you are wasting our time. The time we spend answering questions that can easily be answered using a simple Google search would be spent more wisely answering questions that are harder to answer.
    It's rude to waste other peoples time.
    Personally I'm less than interested in alternatives like the one you claim to have created as they inevitably lead to fracturing of the platform and thus are detrimental to its adoption.I am not sure what lead you to believe that? I think it will run much faster then existing platforms, however I have to develop a JVM first to prove it.Will it? Smaller doesn't necessarily mean faster. For example I've seen formats that seemed execessively verbose but could be parsed very, very simple and efficient.
    Also speed alone is not the important factor. There are problematic factors such as: backward compatibility, existing tools support, necessary investments to include that support in all JVMs (and believe me, there are plenty of JVM implementations out there).
    All in all, it can be said that your model would have to give huge advantages to even be worth considering. And I personally consider saving 20% storage on class files not a huge advantages (obviously that looks slightly different on embedded or mobile devices).

  • Relative Links to External Files in OS X

    I'm using Director MX 2004 in OS X, and I need to use a
    relative link to an external cast member (a Flash file) in the
    "dswmedia" folder. I know how to create a relative link in Director
    for Windows - I edit the link in Flash Asset Properties to link to
    "dswmedia/filename.swf". I do not know how to do this in OS X - the
    link remains "Macintosh
    HD:Users:maxsimms:Documents:Director:dswmedia:file.swf".
    I'm sure that this is an easy question for most Mac users,
    but I'm new to the Mac and I cannot figure it out.
    Can any Mac person help me out?

    You need to use the proper file separator character. For
    Windows the
    character is "/", for Mac its ":". This character is also the
    last
    character in the moviePath property, so you can use that to
    simplify
    things.
    You could use something like this in your code:
    fileSep = _movie.path.char[_movie.path.char.count]
    pathToFile = "dswmedia" & fileSep & "filename.swf"
