Imported too much -- how to fix

I apologize for posting what must be a constant newbie question but I was not able to find the answer to this even after an hour of diligent searching... which is what does emptying the iPhoto trash really do?
When starting up iPhoto for the first time, we accidentally imported too much. Instead of just importing from the copied-images-from-old-computer folder, my wife imported from the whole HD and got things like icon images from various applications into the iphoto pool. How the heck do we get those out of iphoto without deleting them from the HD?
If I understand how things work, putting an image into trash and then emptying the trash will also delete it from the HD. We certainly don't want to do this to app-related images.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. When deleting don't delete more than about 100 photos at a time. iPhoto has problems with trying to delete large number of photos in one shot.
Do you still that the *+copied-images-from-old-computer folder+* ? If you do just delete the current iPhoto Library from the Pictures folder, create a new library and reimport just that folder.

• LR 5.7 has stopped importing Sony .ARW: How to fix this?

I have imported Sony ARW's on this installation/W8 laptop, but today the import fails with "not recognized by the raw format support in Lightroom." I can read the files in Bridge and Window's Explorer too (after I downloaded the Sony driver).
What's up with this? Annoying.

LR 5.7.1 was rushed out to fix an issue with an earlier Sony model, and it included support for the new Sony A7 M2.  I think there is something wrong with the theres-a-new-version check that doesn’t know how to see an x.x.1 version that is otherwise the same two numbers as the current version:  5.7.1 vs 5.7, or maybe Adobe planned that 5.7 was the last of the LR 5 series and didn’t even program it to see new versions.  It’s hard to say but you’re not the first person who’s said there version check in LR 5.7 didn’t find a new version.

• Difference in TIFF and RAW import with ACR (how to fix)?

I'm experimenting with a workflow, so whilst this may seem like an odd thing to want to make work, I have a geniune reason for doing what's described below:
I have Canon CR2 RAW files from a 7D, Photoshop CS6 13.01 64bit, with ACR 7.1.0.354, running on Windows 7 64bit.
1. I import a CR2 image via ACR, with no changes to any sliders; opening it as Adobe RGB (1998); 16bit
2. I then save the image as a TIFF file, leaving "ICC Profile: Abode RGB (1998)" selected in the Color section of the file save dialog
3. If I then close all files, and reopen the CR2 and TIFF image, they (as expected) appear to be identical
4. After closing all files again, I then open the CR2 and make an exposure adjustment (e.g. -1.00)
5. Using Bridge, I select the TIFF file, right click and select Open in Camera Raw. I make the same exposure adjustment as for the CR2
6. Now, the adjusted CR2 and adjusted TIFF are different. A colour shift is noticable, and for a severe exposure change (i.e. +4.00) the shadow detail in the CR2 is a lot lighter
Here are two cropped areas from the files (with a 4 stop push), showing some branch/leaf and grass detail respectively. The TIFF has a greener colour cast for the grass, but much darker shadows:
TIFF
RAW
I appreciate that the CR2 is still a RAW file, and as such has the original Bayer pattern data, but is there any way I can make ACR adjustments to a TIFF (taken from a CR2) to behave in the same way as the original CR2?

ssprengel, Jeff, JJMack - thanks for the constructive replies
station_two - after your use of mildly aggressive language ("What seems to escape your grasp") in your first post, I had money that your subsequent response(s) would be on the lines of "I'm too busy to explain it to people like you". Thankyou for confirming my expectations (sometimes I wonder if some people engage in forum discussions for the sole purpose of trying to get themselves [and possibly others] riled)
So... back to trying to find a construcive solution: If the algorthirms for the adjustments in ACR do operate directly on the Bayer data (before demosiacing to RGB per pixel) then operating on the TIFF (or any other demosaiced RGB data) will indeed be a non-starter. Without (probably unlikely) input from an Adobe developer however, we can't know for sure.
> So RAW numbers after debayering to RGB are linear with numbers of photons within a particular color (R, G or B), while TIF numbers are assumed to be linear with human-vision sensitivity
Understood (I'm familiar with gamma, camera sensor behaviour, exposing to the right etc). Ultimately though, it should be possible to produce an RGB file that is also linear (i.e. not adjusted for human vision) to then bring back into ACR. However, if that's simply not possible with ACR, then that's also a non-starter (and wouldn't help anyway if the adjustments operate on the Bayer data directly).
I did look briefly into opening the RAW as a smart object, but sadly I didn't think that'd help. The goal I'm trying to achieve is an experimental idea to blend parts of images together from multiple exposures; but to achieve a single RAW file with that data as if it came from the camera (thus it could be brought into ACR to get the benefit of - from my point of view - the useful and intuitive adjustment sliders). Clearly that would require reverse engineering the particular RAW format for the camera being used (and each and every camera you'd want to support) - thus, it's not really practical.
I'd hoped to be able to convert (without edits) the RAW images into TIFF (or some other lossless RGB container that I can read programmatically), do the blending to produce a single TIFF, and then bring that back into ACR.
Whilst it's more convoluted, I suppose it might be possible to generate the unedited TIFF files purely for the purposes for getting data about the images, then using that to create a set of masks. Then, as Jeff suggests, perform adjustments to the RAW files in ACR, and use the masks to blend the imported (and now corrected) RAWs into one image. Not ideal, but perhaps worthy of more experimentation.

• Importing too much?

Hi,
Just a general question about the "import" statement.
Does the amount of classes imported into a java file, or the number of individual import statements, influence the size of the generated class file?
For example, would a file that included the statement "import java.swing.*" make a bigger or smaller or equal-sized class file, compared to one that included individual import statements for each Swing class that was actually used?
What sort of overhead is there for an import statement?
Ben

No, the class file will stay the same regardless. It doesn't matter if you import a single class or the whole package, there will be no effect on the class file. It can however slow down the time taken to compile it into a class file if you import a whole package instead. Still, even that isn't usually noticable.

• Flash causes Firefox to slow down and even freeze (and on a gaming laptop, too). How to fix this?

Every time I use the Flash plug-in (for videos on YouTube or PutLocker or whatever), FireFox just slows down a lot and even freezes. It happens very often now and it's really annoying.
By the way, I am using a gaming laptop so I am not sure why I am having these problems. My Flash plug-in and firefox are updated to the latest versions, too.
My specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium
Intel i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHZ (8 CPUs)
nVidia GTX 560m 3GB vRAM dedicated
16GB RAM

Okay, so I uninstalled and reinstalled it. That helped only for about ten minutes and it started doing it again.
I don't know what else to do. :S

All I want is all my contacts on my phone and the same on my iMac, but no, that's too much to ask, instead I get everything doubled up on the phone and everything doubled up (triple in some cases) on the iMac, why does it do this? and more importantly how can I stop it? Thanks

Look under system preferences on the mac at what is be controlled?  Look at Mail, Contacts, Calendars.  How many accounts are managing contacts?  Just the cloud? the cloud and gmail? or cloud, gmail, yahoo, and exchange?  If you have more than one contact account, then you will have different contact lists, if John Smith shows up in more than one of your contact lists, you will have multiple entries.
Pick a contact list that is your master, (I use iCloud), only turn on contact syncing for it.  The same for your phone.  Spend some time on the iCloud webset (www.icloud.com) and work on your contact list there.  Clean it up, remove duplicates, etc...Changes will auto sync back to all your devices.  Life gets much simplier.
Just remember, if you sync different contacts lists and a large number of people appear in your different lists, then they will appear as duplicates.

• How do I fix Javascript message that says "too much recursion"?

Hi there, every time that I load up or refresh a webpage in Firefox, I'm getting a message popup from Javascript that says "too much recursion" - I have no idea what this means or how to fix it, but it's gotten to a point where it's making it almost impossible to do anything through Firefox as it's popping up so often. Is there a way to make this stop?

Hello lavendermoon, maybe an installed Extension that have problems with their JavaScript is the issue, to check that Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
*In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on Help (or click on Help in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".
:
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
also try to delete in your profile folder the User.js file you have.
The user.js file does not exist by default. If you create the file, forget it, if you have not create the file then delete the User.js file, to see if the problem goes away (some programs create and write in the file also).
thank you

• How to fix: "One or more of your USB device drawing too much power..."

Plugged my iPhone to do my usual download of photos off my phone into my iPhoto library so that I can edit them and post on eBay and Etsy.  Suddenly, I'm getting the error message:
"Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled."
I'm surmising that it's because my USB cord (connected from my iPhone to MacBook Pro) might be damaged.  It's not charging correctly.  Keeps going on and off when plugged into wall or computer.
So, will buying a new cord this solve the issue?  I have to get one anyway so I guess I'll find out!
Meanwhile, for tonight I'll have to do just email the photos to myself.  Ugh.

It should fix it.  I would unplug all of your other USB devices from the computer and see if it continues with that error.  If so, then certainly replace that cord (do it anyway since its having issues even in the wall)
