Imported video is smaller than original

When I import videos to after effects the video is not in the original format.  The video appears to be cropped, not just NOT widescreen, but the edges are chopped off.

Im not sure about video shooting format, but it has always played as wide screen both in my cheaper video software and media player
I imported using : file, import, selected my file etc
Well, stop using After Effects, switch to Premiere to edit your video. If you must do green screen keying, learn how to get your video into your computer first.
Welcome to the Adobe family but this user forum is not a place where you can learn how to use these apps. It's a place where other users can help you deal with problems. Shooting and importing video is handled in your camera' manual and in the Quick Start documents that come with Premiere. Video is hard. Really hard. Try not to get too discouraged.

  • Exported video size smaller than original video size. How do I keep the original size?

I exporting a video from Adobe Premiere CS6 today, and I noticed the video was about 1/2 times smaller  than the original video I put in. I then uploaded the video on YouTube, and the size was still the same. I tried to change the preset to 1080p 29.97, 1080p 25, etc. and the same with 720p, and 480p, but the size only changed slightly.
How do I keep the original size after exportation of videos?

  • Illustrator CS4: Images Open 3x Smaller than Original

Every time I open an image in Illustrator, it is 3-times smaller than the original image started out.
    For example:
An image starting out with the dimensions:
    Width: 5.35 inches / 1070 px / 385.2 pt
    Height: 5.24 inches / 1048 px / 377.3 pt
Once it is opened up in Illustrator the dimensions are contorted to:
    Width: 1.93 inches / 386 px / 139 pt
    Height: 1.89 inches / 378 px / 136.1 pt
And this is just from opening the image. I have not done anything as of yet. All I have to look at is a distorted pixelated mess.
I am a bit new to Illustrator, and after hearing my friends talk about how great it is to use, none of them can figure out why Illustrator is doing this to my image files.
Why is Illustrator doing this, and how do I get it to open image files with the proper dimensions?

Dimensions of an image depends on its resolution. When viewing the image in an image editor it just displays 1 image pixel on 1 monitor pixel. Illustrator doesn't do this, but takes into account, what you have defined as resolution. That is: how many pixels should be on 1 inch.

  • Doc attachments smaller than original

Do you know why when I attach a scanned doc (TIFF) in a letter and specify the largest size what gets attached is smaller than the scanned doc?
I scanned a doc and it is 10.7 Mb but when attached at the largest choice of attachments it is only 3.5MB.
This is important since I scanned a legal doc and shipped it out but when it was opened it's size was ~4.5x6" instead of 8.5 x 11".
The scanned doc when dropped in photo shop is 8.5 x 11" at 100% When I look at the doc that was attachment in photo shop it is ~4.5 x 6" at 100%.
I can't find any controls to correct this problem.

At the bottom of the Compose window, on the left, do you not see a heading for Message Size and that reports the message size? And at the bottom right, another heading for Image Size and then a button menu that says something like Actual Size, or maybe Large or Medium? If other than Actual Size, click on the arrows beside that, and choose Actual Size.

  • Scanned Document Pints Smaller than Original

    When I scan an 8-1/2" x 11" document, it prints out as 5" x 7".  How to I change it to print out as 8-1/2" x 11"?

Hello , Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see when you are scanning documents the output comes out smaller than the original on your HP Officejet 7610. To better help me help you, please leave me with the following information: 1. What program are you using to Scan, are you Copying from the front panel? 2. Do you get any error messages on the Computer or Printer? 3. If you print a Document from the Computer does the same thing happen? Have you tried running the Print and Scan Doctor > www.hp.com/go/tools-- It was designed by HP to provide users with the troubleshooting and problem solving features needed to resolve many common problems experienced with HP print and scan products connected to Windows-based computers. Let me know the outcome, I will watch for your reply. Thanks,

  • Clip Size Imported Smaller Than Original Clip

I imported a QT movie 3.69GB into iMovie and the imported movie was 650mb. I guess using iMovie all this time I just assumed that the size of the clip would be the same after importing into iMovie. Can someone tell me why the drop in file size? Thanks.

It was a clip from a DVD that I had saved at the highest quality as a QT movie no compression using Cinematize.
When I imported the clip into iMovie I used no compression 29.97 fpm, 640 by 480, and sound was stereo, 48hz, 16 bit.

  • Can't import videos or more than three songs at a time

I updated and among other problems with this update, I can't put videos in itunes anymore. I converted a DVD with videora to put in itunes, and itunes doesn't even try to import the video like it used to. Same thing with bringing in more than three songs at a time. I tried the file>add file and I tried the click and drag method, neither of which worked.

Thank you so much Tamara, I wonder why the folks at help desk for iPhone are not a ware of this answer.. You been very helpful I really appreciated. Happy Holidays to all!

  • IMovie video result different than original.

I purchased the app iMovie as I had 2 videos that I took with my iPad4, iOS7.0.4 and I wanted to combine them into 1 video. After I did this the resulting video looked as if I had taken it from a greater distance than the original videos in my camera roll. I took my videos with my iPad of my computer monitor screen. The resulting video after combining them showed the whole monitor with space around it. I just wanted the resulting video to have the same look as my original videos in my camera roll viewer. Any suggestions on how I can acheive this?  Thank you.....

I can only guess you have some kind of color-management problem on your system, as I just did a test and didn't see any differences between the preview display in the Merge to HDR Pro dialog and the final result.
What color profile are you using for your input images?
Is it the same as your default working profile?
I shouldn't think it would matter what profiles you're using - Photoshop should handle them all properly - but clearly something's causing your saturation to be massively different, which is the kind of thing you might see if a narrow gamut image is being interpreted as though it has a wide gamut color profile (or displayed without color management on a wide gamut monitor).  I do know that HDR processing converts images to your default working profile under some conditions.
Another possibility is that the display of the image in the HDR Pro dialog is misinterpreting (or neglecting to use) the image color profile.
That's a very pretty sunset shot, by the way.

  • Zip is not really smaller than original.

I have a file that is 194 MB. If I right-click and choose to make an archive, I get a zip file that is 193.3 MB. Can this be right? I think this form of archive is only useful for a group of files that need to be bundled. Why doesn't it compress the file?

To add to Roger's list, that includes most movie file formats.
To comment on Steve's comment, I find that text can compress quite a lot.
You may find no compression gain because there is a certain amount of overhead attached to a compressed file, and for small files or files that are already in a compressed format this overhead may be more than the space savings.

  • IPhoto library size smaller than original collection

I've seen several iphoto library size questions but nothing seems close to my own situation.  If anything, it's mostly the other way around. Apologies if this has already been covered but I've searched long and hard!
I have my photo collection in two places- an iPhoto library and separately stored in a finder folder called "Photos".  For backup purposes and in case anything goes wrong, I prefer to have them doubled up like this.  My iPhoto library is 7.96GB when viewed in finder, whereas the folder "Photos" is 8.95GB.  The same number of images are in both.  Can anyone shed some light onto why this would be the case?  There are no other items contained in either collection, movies etc., just the same amount of photos in various folders within folders.  Surely the iPhoto library would be at least as big, if not bigger with thumbs, photos modified etc?

I would expect the iPhoto Library to be significantly bigger than the folder tree so something is not right.
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
BTW:  Storing the files in a folder tree and iPhoto on the same disk is a waste of space and not a back up. A back up needs to be on a separate disk, at least. The most common problems are disk issues. Such a set up offer no protection whatever from that.

  • What's the difference between full & large when importing video?

In my preference menu, it shows I can import video as either full-original size or large-960x540. Does it make a difference in the size of the file, in the quality of the view, in what can be done with the file? Also, can I determine whether I want it imported as a .mov or .dv or .iprojectimovie? Thanks

since vers08, it is a well-known fact, that iM can not handle interlaced material, there are tons of threads on this topic alone on this board. and it seems as though, that iM does a very 'simple' de-interlacing, by dropping one field: 1920x1080i => 1920x540'p'
I don't like to go into detail, but modern hardware, beyond tubes and arial broadcast, doesn't use, can not handle interlace, any flat-screen, computer or TV, de-interlaces anyhow.
so, if you need for any reason, that extra horizontal resolution, keep it full, otherwise use large.

  • Help with importing video; smaller F.O.V. than recorded.

I am importing clips that I shot on my Canon EOS 60D.
They are 1080p 24fps .MOV files. I may have trouble explaining my problem, so bear with me.
The image that is given to me in Premiere is considerably smaller than what I originally recorded on the camera. I am only given a portion of the image. For example, I have a shot where my parents were at the edges of the frame on my LCD. I imported the clip to Premiere and cannot see them at all, I can only see the very center of the shot.
I'm not sure if I'm shooting with the wrong settings on the camera, selecting the wrong sequence options, or importing the clips incorrectly or something.
If anyone can help me, it would help a lot! Thank you in advance.

Your sequence preset doesn't match your footage. Pick a sequence preset that does match from the New Sequence dialog, or drag a clip to the New Item button (looks like a dog-earred sheet of paper) at the bottom of the Project panel. A sequence will be create that matches your footage.
Also, make sure to set the Program Monitor zoom to "Fit."

It's not like playing a tape. It has to convert it from whatever format you currently have into a codec suitable for editing (Apple Intermediate). This will take longer or shorter depending how compressed your original format is, and on the ability of your CPUs to catch up.
