Imported Video Now Missing! I can see it in finder...

I imported 38 minutes of video last night into one event from miniDV tapes. I shut down the mac... and woke up this morning to discover when I go to that event, now there are only 13 minutes of last night's imported video showing in the event. I verified that I didnt import some of the clips to OTHER events, so that's not the problem...
When I look in Finder, there are all my clips!! But again, only SOME of the clips show in the iMovie event, but most do not.
When I tried to drag one of the missing clips from Finder into the event, I got an error that "The file will not be imported, it is not compatible with iMovie" which is absurd, all the clips are .DV format...
what is going on!?

After you import the clips into an Event, iMovie will go through a process called "generating thumbnails" so that you can skim the event and edit it in the viewer. It is possible that you interrupted this process when you shut down your Mac, so there are only thumbnails for the first 13 minutes.
With iMovie closed...
I would try going to the named Event Folder in the Finder and delete the Thumbnails Folder and the Cache Folder, leaving only the dv clips that you imported. Then start iMovie and let it re-generate the thumbnails.

If you have a backup of your information on your computer, I would suggest putting your phone into recovery mode, by holding down the home key and keeping it held down while you connect it by usb into your computer with itunes running. Keep the home button held down until it indicates recovery mode, and proceed with the restore.

  • Imported folders now missing

I've spent 3 days solid painstakingly importing 13,500 emails into folders, sub folders, sub sub folders... you get the idea by dragging each folder to: user > hd > library > TB > profiles > 0jh881aq.default > mail > local folders. I quit TB and restarted and each time the new folders were showing fine.
I checked each folder that the contents was the same as in entourage, finally it was all done and I converted all the folders to 'read'.
One by one they keep popping back up as un-read and now the entire received library contents has vanished. I can see the received folder just nothing in it. If I follow the above go to chain all the contents is there, and I've even copied out back to the desktop and back in again, but it doesn't come back. I've tried to repair the folder in properties, but nothing seems to work.
Can someone help on these issues please, I really dont want to copy it all back again.

Try this (it will not take long and will either work or not.)
Move all your folders out of Thunderbirds profile into a single root location (as far as folders go.)
Install the import export add-on. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/
Use the import export tools add-ons options to import an mbox from a folder and all sub folders and point it to the structure you have created. (The add-on has an entry on the tools menu)
It will import all valid MBOX files into Thunderbird and structure them as it finds them (although perhaps not quite where you had them)
One thing it will not do is place the folder into an IMAP structure where the IMAP account tries to synchronize and mess up the folders, because they do not exist on the server.

  • Why would I get an important message that says, "I can see you" It was a loud alarm with a message box.

My Iphone 4s had a loud alarm with a text box that said I can see you!  I was trying to copy and paste in my contacts at the time it occured.  It kinda freaked me out.

This was an iCloud message.  I received an email that was from find myiphone. It stated your message was sent to the phone. The funny thing is that I don't remember messing around with the find my iPhone feature. I may try to explore the find my iPhone feature some more. Thanks for the responses everyone. The message had a loud continuous alarm even though my phone was set to vibrate.
    Thanks again

  • Import Video Recordings Missing/hidden

I just updated the iMovie program and found out how to record a video through mac camera. I hit import, selected camera, Made new event, then hit the record button. recorded about 12 hours worth with breaks every 2 to 3 hours. I went to upload it to youtube but could not find files. I then went back to program and they where there in the events so i clicked on it and the program froze. I closed program opened it and it was gone. I tride to find it in finder and other files but it was not there. I then Tried to recreate the events so i could recorde events but it says that events already exist. so i look at the recording section again and it automaticly had hidden selected. does anyone know how to open and/or find the files so i could unhide it and upload it to youtube?

    Hello again,
I just converted one of the H.264 QT movies to 'Apple Intermediate' and now the both video and audio assets import just fine.
So, I must assume that the problem has something to do with H.264, but any light that can be shed on this would be appreciated.
    Cheers,

  • How do you choose your video folder so itunes can see it?

For some reason, itunes is not seeing my video folder on my laptop. How can I point it to the correct folder so I can sync some videos to my iphone?

Back in iTunes, click on the Movies or TV Shows menu items to see what iTunes sees. They have to first be listed there in your library.
Then try to play one. Just because they are listed there, if you ever moved them and didn't tell iTunes, iTunes has a pointer pointing to the old location. If iTunes can play them you should be ok (if in right format for iPhone). If it cannot find it, it will tell you (and put an exclamation point next to file) and you have to go find the file (iTunes will prompt to have you find it) so it can update it's pointer.
Only after iTunes knows where it is (eg: can play the file from your library) can you sync it (if in right format).

  • I have installed yosemitie but now all i can see is a white screen?

i have installed on an apple mac 21 inch.

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
To restart an unresponsive computer, press and hold the power button for a few seconds until the power shuts off, then release, wait a few more seconds, and press it again briefly.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a startup failure is to secure the data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since the last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to start. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    a. Start up from the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.” The article refers to starting up from a DVD, but the procedure in Recovery mode is the same. You don't need a DVD if you're running OS X 10.7 or later.
    b. If Step 1a fails because of disk errors, and no other Mac is available, then you may be able to salvage some of your files by copying them in the Finder. If you already have an external drive with OS X installed, start up from it. Otherwise, if you have Internet access, follow the instructions on this page to prepare the external drive and install OS X on it. You'll use the Recovery installer, rather than downloading it from the App Store.
    c. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, start the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    d. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
If the startup process stops at a blank gray screen with no Apple logo or spinning "daisy wheel," then the startup volume may be full. If you had previously seen warnings of low disk space, this is almost certainly the case. You might be able to start up in safe mode even though you can't start up normally. Otherwise, start up from an external drive, or else use the technique in Step 1b, 1c, or 1d to mount the internal drive and delete some files. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation.
    Step 3
Sometimes a startup failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 4
If a desktop Mac hangs at a plain gray screen with a movable cursor, the keyboard may not be recognized. Press and hold the button on the side of an Apple wireless keyboard to make it discoverable. If need be, replace or recharge the batteries. If you're using a USB keyboard connected to a hub, connect it to a built-in port.
    Step 5
If there's a built-in optical drive, a disc may be stuck in it. Follow these instructions to eject it.
    Step 6
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to start up, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can start up now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
    Step 7
If you've started from an external storage device, make sure that the internal startup volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
Start up in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know the login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you start up in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, the startup volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 11. If you ever have another problem with the drive, replace it immediately.
If you can start and log in in safe mode, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then restart as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the startup process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 8
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select the startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then restart as usual.
    Step 9
If the startup device is an aftermarket SSD, it may need a firmware update and/or a forced "garbage collection." Instructions for doing this with a Crucial-branded SSD were posted here. Some of those instructions may apply to other brands of SSD, but you should check with the vendor's tech support.
    Step 10
Reinstall the OS. If the Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 11
Do as in Step 9, but this time erase the startup volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically restart into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer the data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 12
This step applies only to models that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery: all Mac Pro's and some others (not current models.) Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery, if there is one, is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a startup failure. Typically the failure will be preceded by loss of the settings for the startup disk and system clock. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
    Step 13
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

  • Just bought new PC with windows 8.1 and installed the 64bit tunes as instructed by the new PC. Only a small part of my music library is now showing but  can see all the files in the itunes folder on an eternal hard drive linked to my old XP pc.

Problem - changed PC to one with Windows 8.1 ( previous from 2006 with Windos XP). Previously all ITunes stuff on an external harddrive as 80 gigs of music too much for the old PC
When attached Harddrive to new PC was told needed to install the new 64 bit iTunes as 32 bit iTunes not compatable.
Did so but only a very small portion of my music is showning -  though rest of Library is still on the external drive in the folder.
    Help please
    Thanks

Again many thanks. I have tried to tidy up the folders as per your idiot guide- which term is appropriate for me
Under iTunes Media though I do not have  folders for Books,iPod Games, Mobile Applications, Movies, TV Shows so I only have  Auto Add to iTunes, Music, Downloads and Podcasts - My question here is is this OK.
Next - Library files that you mention are there but do not end .itdb
Next  - in the main iTunes folder followingon from Artwork and Media folders  there is some other  iTunes database stuff like Library Extras, Library Genius, Library and Music Library(xml) all dated 10/02/12 plus MimiPlayer .dll dated 21/02/14 and Set Up Short Cut dated22/03/14
AND there is also a Programme Files folder with a sub folder holding file folders called CD Configuration,iTunes Resources, iTunes Help Resources, iTunes Mini Player Resources and Mozilla Plugins all dated 24/03/14 ( when I downloaded the new iTunes) and then a lot of application extension stuff from 2011
To recap I unistalled the old 32 bit iTunes and installed the new 11.1.5 (64 bit) version over the weekend  SO is any of the old stuff listed above required.
Outcome right now is that as previously I can only call up the Downloaded music not Podcats or CD copies.

I transferred photos to my computer by cutting and pasting.  I have some on my phone that I didn't cut and paste.  Now they are gone and and I cannot find them anywhere on phone or computer. Are they lost forever.  I have done no back-up recently or icloud.  My daughters 8th grade graduation was on it.  I am devastated.

A lot of I should haves.  I had too many photos and while at work I opened up the 4 folders inside of the DCIM folder on my phone.  I didn't think it would be a big deal to just cut the photos and paste on my computer as I have  done this before.  i moved one folder that had 803 pictures in it and all was fine.  I ran out of time and unplugged phone and went home.  When I got to work this morning I was looking at my phone and realized I only had 34 pictures.  I knew there should have been 400+ there and they are gone.  Don't know what happened and if they were deleted off phone or computer I cannot see them anywhere.  I didn't back up (I know mistake) Lessoned learned I just hope there is something i can do!
