Importing 59.94 fps  - edl from Premiere CC  - error - Frame index out of range

I have a Adobe Premiere project with a 5k 59.94 sequence.
The sequence has two R3d 5K clips both interpreted at 59.94.
I've exported an edl for the sequence and want to import it into SpeedGrade.
I have adjusted my preferences in SpeedGrade for 59.94.
- playback at 59.94
- base frame rate is set at 59.94, with "both edits and footage have the current base FPS as set above or in the EDL itself"
I import the EDL and the reels are not loaded. I select "Load from desktop", and the reels still do not load.
I deselect "don't replace loaded reels" and manually drag the two clips and replace the two reels.
I can now see the clips in the timeline, but have an error message in my display - "Frame index out of range".
I'm guessing this could also a be a Premiere CC export problem, but not sure. The sequence is just cuts, no audio.
Here's the edl info:

FCM: NON-DROP FRAME

Trying to nail down a workflow for 4k 60p, and not feeling very encouraged.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

I've had a similar frame-out-of-range problem for the last week or so in Sg ... import an edl, and even if I've already set the "base" in Prefs, and for that project BEFORE re-loading the reels, I ALWAYS get the f-o-o-r screen instead of my footage. After going back and forth setting those things to the same thing again and maybe again, I'll finally get where it all loads & runs. Save the project.
Come back by opening it again later ... and GET THAT DAMN FRAME-OUT-OF-RANGE thing again and have to ... again ... spend 10-15 minutes setting and re-setting all those same DAMN things until it finally decides to accept my footage.
I've only ... in the last two weeks ... TWICE opened a project I'd previously had working and graded on ... that simply loaded. Every other time I've had to waste time re-setting/re-setting/re-setting/close-open-re-set/re-setting & etc. until it finally works.
No help from anyone about why this is now happening, how to stop it, or fix it quickly. Damn dumb behavior.

  • EDL conform yields frame index out of range errors

I'm trying to do an offline/online workflow with Phantom (.cine) files.
I used SpeedGrade CC 2014 to create ProRes proxy files from the original .cine files. That part went well. So, I do my edit with those proxies and export an EDL from my NLE. Everything in the EDL looks normal - it's a really simple cuts-only timeline with just a few clips in it.
I want to conform the EDL in SpeedGrade but relink against the original .cine media. I made sure my edit settings in SpeedGrade match my footage and NLE project settings (23.976 fps). I open the EDL in SpeedGrade and I can see the unlinked clips. I load the .cine files to a desktop in SpeedGrade and then hit the Load from desktop button. SpeedGrade gives me an error about the frame rates of the reels not matching the current frame rate. It lets me proceed and it appears to have linked the correct clips. However, when I view them in the timeline, it displays a "Frame index out of range" screen.
I can see in the timeline that the handles are crazy huge. I can also see that it has applied different time warps to the clips in the EDL, although no TW was done in the edit. Grrr. This should be a pretty simple task but I can't get it to work correctly.
    How can I fix this?
    Thanks,
    Matt

OK, I think I have something working. It's manual/laborious but it appears to work with my short test.
It's something wrong with the "From reel frame" property on the clips that come in from the EDL. I'm reading this as a offset problem. Here's what I've done to fix it.
Set SG to work in frames instead of TC. Easier to see what is going on, imho.
Open the EDL in SG. Conform it and just ignore the mismatched frame rate error. Meh.
Select the first clip in the conformed timeline and switch to the Clip tab. Then, look at the properties page for the clip. Note the "From reel frame" value.
Switch back to your NLE that the EDL was generated from and find that first clip on the timeline. Make sure your NLE is also in frame counting mode rather than TC. Match source into the clip on the in point.
Look at the frame number the playhead is parked on in the source clip. Copy that frame number.
Back in SG, paste that frame number into the "From reel frame" value and click somewhere on the interface.
SG should now slip the clip and show it instead of the annoying Frame index out of range page I've grown to loathe.
Rinse and repeat for each clip. (I said it was laborious!).  :-(
So far, so good for me using this method. Again, this works for me and my particular use case (Phantom .cine files). I've accumulated a total of maybe four hours of SpeedGrade experience as I've only ventured to use it for this use case so I'm probably missing something but this is the only way that is working for me.
Now, here's to hoping the Add Handles button works the way I expect it to in the Render tab. I'm not hopeful.

  • Importing EDL from Premiere PRO CS4

Hey! I shot a short film using the XDCAM EX1, then imported all the footage to FCP 6.0.4. Now it will be edited on APP CS4 but we're now doing some compatibility tests. Since PP wouldn't run the Quicktimes made during shooting using XDCAM Transfer to FCP, I made a couple of MPEG2 files on Compressor and that ran well.
I got PP to read an EDL made on FCP and now I'm trying to read an EDL from PP to FCP but it says it can't. For secuence Preset I use XDCAM 720p24 since it doesn't have option for regular MPEG-2, is there an export option on PP that we're overlooking? What is to be done in order to get this to work?
    Thanks a lot.

    Thanks for your answers guys.
I can't reimport since it has been deleted from the original cards where it was captured.
I import from the import menu, then EDL. I don't know if my setting is correct (XD CAM EX 720p24) but it does match with original clip. Also, the files exported from PP are marked as *edl.txt, is this a problem? I tried changing the extension to just .edl but it didn't work either. The exact message is: "Error importing EDL"
Is there a workaround for this?

  • Exporting an EDL from Premiere CS6 that SpeedGrade can read

I have a long sequence which I now want to grade. I didn't grade the individual clips prior to editing them into a 70 minute timeline. I have tried the following without success:
    Exporting to SpeedGrade the Premiere timeline: it will do this, but leaves chunks of clips brown, as blank info in the SG timeline, so if I grade this, I'll have an incomplete graded file to apply back to the Premiere timeline;
importing to SpeedGrade a ProRes 422 file which I then asked SG to divide into clips (the app quit after taking 40 minutes to examine the file, which it did successfully, but when I asked it to make clips, it quit)
exporting from Premiere an EDL which I then apply to the QT ProRes file in SG. This is not accepted because there are certain key commands which SG won't accept, but there's no way to know how to export a "clean" EDL from PP to SG without those commands (I even went into the EDL using TextEdit to see if I could delete certain lines, but that was obviously a losing game)
    Suggestions welcome!

Yes, I tried to find that forum and couldn't which is why I posted here, but since I have you on the line, and since you apparently have lots of experience with SG, can I ask you:
Because of the way I've done this documentary I can only grade it now that the picture/sound is locked. If I export a ProRes flattened movie into SG, it will have the effects, titles etc which is not what SG wants, right? So do I duplicate a timeline in Premiere, delete the titles, etc, (what else: effects?) and then export to SG?
If I export the timeline (using a MacPro but not the fastest newest model, 16GB Ram) it takes about three or four hours to export the DPX files. I'm trying it again, but don't hold any hope that it will export without some of those incomplete clips. I don't know what causes them. Could it be sections with effects, with stacked clips which have wipes and other stuff, combining them in the ProRes export to a single image but in a timeline exported to SG maybe its not reading that info?
Whatever you can suggest would be great.

  • Only seeing Audio File in AME on Import or Export to Queue from Premiere

    Hello All...
I don't have alot of experience with AME... I"ve exported a sequence from Premiere Pro, Selected setting and added to the Queue in AME... all I see show up once the AME window opens is an Audio File.
When I open a Premiere project directly from AME (using the dropdown menu) I get the same result... I've tried this with a few Premiere Projects. Am I missing a step here???
Also... I'm confused as to why I select all the transcode settings in Premiere Pro when exporting media... and then there are presets again in AME... don't the settings carry over from Premiere's export window?
    Thyanks for any help...

I'm wrestling with this same issue.
I'm on Windows 7using Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.
I'm producing a two disc, dual layer DVD set for 100 families of my son's marching band.
I have a half hour "masterwork" of interviews, performance segments, rehearsal sequences, credits, etc that I've edited together complete with sound, etc.
I also then have various other video segments from the season, some high quality (1920x1080) and some lower quality.
Rather than import everything into Encore and have Encore transcode them all at the same quality, I wanted to ensure that the half-hour piece and certain other segments were transcoded as high quality as possible and given the largest file sizes I could and then transcode other segments as needed so everything would fit on the discs.
The company I'm using to duplicate/replicate the 100 DVDs from my Master DVD advised me to encode them FIRST in Premiere Pro as desired, and THEN import those files into Encore.
I've used Adobe Media Encoder a lot to export the individual segments into files I could upload to Youtube and have had no problem.
    But now, two things happen:
    1) AME automatically designates the "Output File" with an .aac extension
    2) When I do an "Import As" of the AME encoded file in Encore it only loads an audio file (obviously)
    Whassup?
Here are the settings I use in my Export Media dialogue in Premiere Pro CS6:
    Format: MPEG2-DVD
    Preset: NTSC Widescreen High Quality
Output Name (and filetype): ______ name with Save as Type of "Video Files(*.mpg)
BOTH the "Export Video" and "Export Audio" boxes are checked
Filters Tab: left as is, don't do anything here
    Multiplexer Tab:
choose the "DVD" button (vs the "None" button)
Bitrate Type: left as Variable which is what is selected as a default
    Video Tab:
    Codec: Reads MainConcept MPEG Video
Quality: increase it to the max of 5
    TV Standard: NTSC
    Frame Rate: 29.97
    Field Order: None (Progressive)
    Pixel Aspect Ration: Widescreen 16:9
Render at Maximum Depth box checked
Bitrate Encoding: I choose CBR for my high quality segments and VBR 2-pass for my lower quality segments
Bitrate: kick it up to the max for high qulaity segments, adjust as needed to get the filesize I want for my lower quality segments
    Audio Tab:
    Audio Format: Dolby Digital
    Codec: Dolby Digital
Bitrate: At least 320, sometimes higher for the segments I want to be the highest quality
I check the "Use Maximum Render Quality" box
I chose "Queue" for everything and then let it run overnight
So... what am I doing wrong, helpful experts????

  • Footage from Premiere moved 2 frames

    Hi,
Having a strange problem. I've cut a short film in Premiere - and have imported into After Effects to grade the footage.
Now - I've discovered that all my footage in After Effects has shuffled exactly 2 frames forward in my timeline. (eg: frame 1:00:01 in my offline = frame 1:00:03 in After Effects).
Sounds like I've made a mistake and stuck in 2 frames at the start somewhere by accident.
HOWEVER - all my cuts, right through to the last (I have about 100 cuts) ALL line up with the offline. Eg: if frame 1:00:01 is a clip's out point in Premiere, it's also an out point for the same clip in AE.
I'm quite the novice in After Effects, but know my way around video programs generally - can some spot what I may have done wrong?
(initially thought this was a field problem - for the record I'm cutting in HDV 1080i PAL, and importing into AE upper field first)
Look forward to some feedback! Thanks in advance...
    Asher.

Check your time code display. Premiere may be set for non drop frame timecode, AE may be set to DF timecode. If it's a Timecode display problem then there are no dropped frames. You can easily verify this by changing the time display in AE and Premiere to frames or both to NDF time code.

  • Exporting from Premiere makes my video washed out. Thoughts?

    Hey Forum!
Question of about exporting from Premiere CS6.
When I export a video, and open it in Quicktime, the image has lost contrast and color saturation.
Does anyone have a solution to this?
I've heard about x264 but haven't tried it. Has anyone had success? A simple workflow they can walk me through?
I also heard that you could send your sequence to After Effects, change the color space to 709. Has anyone had success
    with this workflow?
The only time the video looks nice is playing it in FLV. But in the real world, who actually uses VLC?
The strange part is if I look at the raw video it looks great. Bring that clip into Adobe and export it (no color correcting, or anything done to it) and it comes out desaturated with less contrast. I would think if you did absolutely nothing, it should come out the same right?
Last note, I am not using an external monitor. (Because I know many in the forum willl suggest this) I would like to just get the video out looking the same as it does in the editing system to play back on my desktop. I'm not interested in worrying about other TVs, computers, etc.
Any help would be hugely appreciated:)!!!!

That's my point. Not worrying about other displays.
Why does the raw look one way, on my desktop, then I bring into premiere, export the same clip, and it looks washed out and less contrast on the same desktop, same computer as the initial evaluation of the Raw.
Evaluating with or without the signal conversation, why is there a change when I have done nothing?
    Hopefully this makes sense.
    Is the 709 conversation relevant?
    Is the Gamma conversation relevant?
I de-selected the Gamma (auto default) using the 422 HQ codec, and that did nothing to the color.
I'm wondering if there are other boxes to click/un-click.
    Thoughts?! Thanks you!

  • Speedgrade frame rate issue when loading reels. EDL from Premiere CS6

We have a short film, cut in Premiere (time base in sequence is set to 23.976 and display format is set at 24fps) I imported the EDL into Speedgrade for coloring. My Speedgrade edit settings have a base frame rate of 24fps and the option "both edits have current base frame rate as set above or within the EDL itself" is selected. However when I go to load reels from desktop I am getting an error that says "some of the reels do not match your current frame rate." In turn this is causing our exported Quicktime (TIFF uncompressed at 24fps) to not sync up with our audio back in premiere. It looks as if we are missing frames.
Is this an EDL issue with Premiere? Or is it a Speedgrade frame rate settings issue? Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
    Some details on the project:

I don't have had problems if the frame ratio is the same in all process, and in this case it isn't. If the Scarlet footage is to 24 fps, why to use 23.976 in Premiere?

because nobody can solve the problem if I call by phone are busy, if chatting not know resolve, if I send email no answer, this version of Premier is the worst of all, since they did Membership is pure waste time with your program ... • Export to Encore from Premiere - Set DVD Title?

    I am new to Encore.
I tried to Export to Encore from Premiere. The DVD turns out fine, but the DVD is named "Untitled Project" and I'd like to give the disc a custom title.
I saved the Encore project, gave the disc a title, and the titling works out fine, but the DVD has no sound.
I have tried both of these processes two times each, and the same thing happens.
Given the choice between a custom title and sound, I certainly want the disc to have sound. But how do I get both?
    Help help help.

    Thank you for your reply.
I used a short disc title in Encore, which was PANDORA. The titles winds up on the DVD, but no sound.
But when I export the video from Premiere to Encore, I don't see a place where I can enter a custom name. So it names the DVD Untitled Project. Can you tell me where that is in Premiere?

  • Importing EDL from AVID into Premiere with Alexa-Footage

    Hi,
here is what I am trying to achieve:
    1. Edit in AVID with Alexa Footage
    2. Export EDL
    3. Import EDL in Premiere
    4. Relink Media
    5. Export to After Effects
Here is a little piece out of my EDL:
    007 A008C010 V C 01:34:45:02 01:34:45:19 01:00:08:18 01:00:09:10

The import of the EDL works fine in Premiere. My objects in the Project Panel are called "A008C010", "A008C001", and so on. When I'm trying to relink the media I need to select every single project-item because Premiere doesn't recognize my files automatically based on the connection to the filename.
I tried lots of stuff, renaming my files without extension -> Premiere doesn't accept the files anymore, renaming my items in Project Panel "name" and "tape name" -> the relink-media doesn't recognize the same name, and so on.
    What am I missing here?
    Thank you!

    Hi there.
Premiere needs to have the full file name with extension in the EDL itself.  Changing it in the project after the EDL has been imported won't work. All you need to do is change your EDL to look like:

Should be able to do a simple Search and Replace on your EDL in any wordpad editing software... just search for  " V "  (note the space before and after the "V") and replace with ".mov V " (with a space after the "V")

  • Importing from Premiere Error

    Hello, everyone!
Just bought the new CC suite today, and trying to work out a bug. I wanted to take advantage of AE's render farm capabilities, so I wanted to try to edit Premiere sequences in AE, and render from there. I have two issues: never really used AE before, and the following error: "AEGP Plugin Premiere Pro Import: Error reading project file. (5027 :: 12)" Does anyone know what this issue is?
In AE, I see all of the imported mediums from Premiere, however I don't see the edited timeline. Doesn't appear to be a corruption issue, just some sort of importing issue.
    Thanks!

    A'ight. Specs.
    Core i7 4770K @ 4.5GHz
    Asus Sabertooth Z87
    Corsair RM850
    Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz 16GB
Samsung 840PRO 256GB (OS & where Adobe software is installed)
Seagate 2TB 7200RPM HDD (Project Files)
WD 1TB 7200RPM HDD (Scratch Disk)
Seagate 80GB 7200RPM HDD (Exported Files)
Hitachi 5TB 7200RPM HDD (Raw video)
The original video was recorded in DXTory with the Lagarith Lossless codec, at varying FPS from 20 to 60. Audio is recorded separately, but in same container. Different files when editing though. 1920x1080 video. Audio is in the MP3 container, PCM 48000Hz, 16 bit for game, 24 bit for voiceover, one stereo for game sound, one mono for voiceover.
    Will that be all?

  • Encore won't import markers with bluray vid output from Premiere through Media Encoder

I have a sizeable video project, just completed, that needs to be output to DVD and BluRay.  DVDs are done, no problem - the three timelines are each exported from Premiere by queueing them in Media Encoder. Side-car .xmp files are produced containing the chapter markers, and it all imports into Encore without issue, chapter markers are there, DVD burns successfully, works on DVD players, all good.
Now for the Blurays.... Same process as before, queueing the same timelines in Media Encoder, this time exporting using the H264 BluRay HD1080i 25 preset, the export works fine, no issues or error messages, but mporting into into Encore (using Import as Asset, Import as Timeline, etc), I get the error:
"Error parsing MPEG metadata file. Deleting or renaming "E:\YourVid\test.m4v.xmpses" will allow you to import, but any markers will be lost."
In other words, the markers file is either failing to export crrectly from Media Encoder, or failing to import correctly into Encore, or both.
I have never had this problem before, but this is the first exporting I have done with the latest versions of Premiere and Media Encoder, ie versions:
    Premiere CC: 2014.1 8.1.0 (81) Build
Media Encoder CC: 2014.1 Build 8.1.0.122
    Encore CS6: Version 6.0.2.004
    ... on Win 7 Pro 64bit
Can anyone help?  Are other people having this problem?  Is this a bug with the latest version of Media Encoder and/or Premiere, or is it just co-incidence and something else is the problem?  And most importantly, is there a sensible workaround (ie other than just re-making all the chapter markers in Encore?) Can I export the chapter markers from Premiere into Encore some other way?
    Please help!!!

Well, I wanted to play with versions and reverting...
AME version is columns; PR version is rows. The 8.1.0 x 8.1.0 was on my laptop. The rest are desktop, but both are win7. I'm guessing the fault is AME, so I will update AME to 8.1.0 as next step. But no new test till "tomorrow" (even though tomorrow is today!).
    PR CC/AME
    8.0.0
    8.0.1
    8.1.0
    8.0.0
    ok
    fail
    8.0.1
    ok
    ok
    8.1.0
