Importing a clean text in CS3

When I was with CS2, I had a Word macro that was cleaning my texts before importing it to InDesign. The resulting text was a Tagged Text, without any formatting. The work flow was simple: cleaning the Word files removing everything unnecessary (this was done with a powerful macro built over years), keeping only italic, super and subscript. Also keeping style tag when the document was well formed. Then saving it as a simple text file with the appropriate tagged text header. This work flow was so swift and saved me a lot of works.
With the venue of Word 2008, and InDesign CS3 I was facing a new challenge. My VBA macros didn't work any more and CS3 had trouble with importing tagged text (it seems to have been resolved since then). So I just imported my Word file with the «Removing style» option on and the flag «keep local overrides» checked.
However, this filter is annoying. Since we need usually to keep only italic, superscript and subscript in a text (and perhaps bold) (as in FrameMaker, by the way), I don't understand why this has not been implemented in InDesign so far.
Any idea, macros, on that subject?
Again, the task is simple: removing everything except the essential markers: italic, bold, sometimes styles, superscript and subscript.
In almost every importing task, this is what is needed.

well, I should be able to rebuild them in AppleScript, but there is a learning curve that I would have like to not climb ;-)
I'm just wondering why this simple task, so common in DTP has not been well implemented in InDesign...

  • CS3/JS: Code to import x-tagged text into Indesign

    Hi All,
Normally we import text as X-Tag using Em Software plugin manually. We developed a script for auto-pagination in Indesign. But we couldn't find any JS code to import X-tagged text anywhere. So we used word file to import but facing lot of issues while importing word file into Indesign.
Is there any javascript code to import text with X-tag plugin? If so, kindly provide. It will be be helpful for us very much.
    Thanks in advance.
    regards
    Masthan

An external plugin can only (*) be used in Javascript if the original programmers added support for it. Best is to check its documentation, and if it's not mentioned in there, contact the authors.
(*) Perhaps you can locate its menu entries and use those instead. I wouldn't know at all if that works with external plugins.

  • Best way to import Microsoft Word text?

Newbie question. I've been importing Microsoft Word text just using the clipboard. That is, I'll open Microsoft Word, open my document, select all, copy, and then go to InDesign and paste. InDesign gives me a text block with my text and I just re-size the columns. The text comes in all weird and I have to stylize it, of course. Sometimes I get some junk like nonbreaking characters and other hidden characters which screw me up until I figure out what's going on. My question is: what's the best way to import Microsoft Word text that will introduce the fewest errors? Thanks.

  • Is it possible to import a Fixed Text file that does not have a header?

I'm trying to import a Fixed Text file through Import Manager, but the text file I am receiving does not have a header on it (the first row is valid data). When I try importing this, Import Manager uses the first row of data as the headings. Is there any way to turn this off and tell Import Manager there is no header data in the file?
    Thanks!

Hi Ryan ,ur requirement can be met only when u import the file as ODBC .for this follow the below steps.
1)Go to control panel,in ur settings, select administrative tools
    2) In that select DATA SOURCE(ODBC ).
3)Go to SYSTEM DSN tab select tab .
4)Select ur file type MICROSOFT TEST DRIVER (.txt,.csv)
5)Double click on "Import DSN" and in the blank give the name of DATA SOURCE NAME any name u want to give.
6)Uncheck the use current directory box and select the directory ur file is it will automatically show ur source file select it and click ok.
    7) Now when u import ur file as ODBC give the name of ur DATA source name which u have given and it will show ur file in the source preview itself .
In  this way u can import ur file as ODBC.
    Hope this may help u.

  • How to create clean text for the web in Photoshop/Illustrator

I am puzzled to death on how in the world to get clean text for the web in Photoshop/Illustrator, particularly white text. I want my text to turn out exactly like the text at this website: thepainteddoor.org
If you scroll down to the bottom of that page, notice the titles "Featured Media", "Social Networking", and "Contact Information". They are all .gif images. I have tried to replicate what these images look like for about 3 hours now to no avail. Can anyone tell me how to do this? It just looks like a simple outline or drop shadow, but I can't get it to show up like that. If someone could help me replicate that effect with text (aka make it show up clean as an image), I would graciously give them money through PayPal*.
    * = I will only give cash if it will replicate it exactly (and I mean exactly)..and it won't be too much..I'm a poor college student. :-P
    Thanks in advance!
    Thomas

You would do it the way I created it:
Select the Text tool in Photoshop and set the font and parameters as I have listed.  Then enter whatever text you like.  It will be rendered over the top of the lower layers you may have in the document.  Save as an image of the appropriate type and you're there.
Note that "lower layers you may have in the document" could conceivably be none at all (i.e., you render the text over a transparent document).  You could imagine saving that as a .png with transparency and get light text in an image that could then be put over the top of anything else.  The alpha mixing will see to it that the edges smoothly blend with the background.  I haven't actually tried this (I usually do try my own suggestions) because of lack of time right now.

  • Importing keyboard shortcuts from PS CS3 into CS4?

Is it possible to import keyboard shortcuts from PS CS3 into CS4?
    And how?
    m

Mmh, you could possibly simply copy over the respective files from your preset directory (Documents and Settings/Matjaz/Application Data/Adobe/Photoshop CS3/Presets/Keyboard Shortcuts). Not sure if it's safe, though. Never tried.

  • How do I Import footage from Premier Pro CS3 to After Effects?

    Hi
As the subject says, how do I import footage from premier pro cs3 into after effects. I'm getting rather frustrated trying to figure this out.
Via copy & paste I can copy into after effects but this copys the whole of the track on the timeline, where as I just want 10 seconds copied. The 10 seconds I want to copy is a segment & was highlighted when I clicked copy.
Also when the full track gets copied, all my edits aren't copied & I get the raw track copied???
I've googled this, tried the "Add Dynamic Link" but all I want is to copy 10 seconds of footage from premier into after effects, add my effect & then copy it back, and I can't figure out how to do this simple thing
    Any help
    Thanks.

I am still not getting this.
I highlight the selection I want to copy into after effects. I copy & paste it & it pastes my entire footage without any off the edits I have made.
Having searched loads for this I can find no other answer than copy & paste.
Please please could you guy be more specific with your answers as I just can't figure this one?

  • Importing sound into Premier Pro CS3

I have a Sony HDR-XR100 HD video camera.  It saves files with an .m2ts extension.  This extension is not supported by CS3.  Using Sony's PMB (Picture Motion Browser), I convert the .m2ts files to .mpeg2.  When I import these files into Premier, they appear, but have no audio.  How do I import the audio?  Thanks.
    David

I put it in the main Premier folder, presumably like you did, and it worked.  I'm not real familiar with Macs, but the folder I put it in was "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS3".  There are several other files there with similar names.  If that doesn't work, I'm lost, since obviously I had to come here for help myself :).

Hey, I'm using CS for Mac and I'm having the same issue , importing .mpg into PPro and get no audio.
I found the ad2ac3dec.dll file online but I'm not sure what folder to place it in. I've found the folder named Adobe Premire Pro CS3 and just pasted it into that but it didn't work.
My camera only records in .mpg and I really don't want to spend money on a converter after spending a bucketload for CS3...
Any help would be much appreciated!

If you want to embed videos in your muse site, without using a service like youtube or vimeo, then you will need to manually upload the video files on the server and use them via the video tag available in html5, HTML5 Video
To insert the video tags in your muse pages, you will need to use the 'Object -> Insert HTML' option.
Since this option is not available in Muse, out of the box, I will recommend that you post this on our ideas section over here, https://forums.adobe.com/community/muse/ideas, and let our devs team know of this requirement.

  • Import rows of text in Excel to layers in After Effects?

Hello! After Effects noob here. I've been tasked with the grunt work task of moving several hundred words from an excel file into After Effects. The words will be dynamically pulled into an animation.
Each word is in it's own cell in Excel and needs to be on its own layer in After Effects. I thought there must be a way to automate this!
Any ideas for a way to import with a script or something...? Thanks!

There exist various scripts to import and export texts from spreadsheets to AE:
    Text2Spreadsheet
    CompsFromSpreadsheet
    Templater
    pt_OpenSesame
In the description of Text2Spreadsheet you find a comparison of all these tool in the section "Is Text2Spreadsheet the right tool for me"

  • IDCS3- Importing Word Body Text: Best Approach?

Hi all, first post here. Am relatively new to the wonders of InDesign in my new occupation, and during the current quiet period have decided to look at some areas of our DTP department and how our lives could be made easier.
Currently we receive the bulk of our body text as Word documents, which we import to InDesign. Our templates are very rigid and rarely deviate from one report to another, so I've been looking into a script or alternative method of painstakingly copying, pasting and changing paragraph styles in ID. I've looked into XML, basic VB scripts but can't help but wonder whether doctoring the original Word docs at source would be easier?
Thanks in advance, all feedback appreciated.

I take a "bulk" approach to cleaning up and formatting Word files. The
more I can work with at one time, the more efficient I am, because
finding and replacing 100 items takes about the same amount of time as
    finding and replacing 10 items.
So if I were working with inserts, I would want to Place all the inserts
in one big Indesign file; lock down all the character formatting with
character styles (by searching for superscript, replacing with a
superscript character style, searching for italic, replacing with an
italic character style etc.); search for clues in the Word files and
apply paragraph styles (search for bullets, replace with a bulleted list
style; search for left/right indents, replace with an extract style,
etc.); clean out all the double spaces, extra tabs, returns, and other
junk; standardize dashes, quotes, and ellipses; and select all, remove
    overrides.
Some of this can be automated with scripts. Some of it has to be
customized based on the particular weird mangle that particular weird
author made to the Word file. A lot of it can be speeded up just by
    saving Find/Replaces.
Then copy/paste, same as you've been doing.
Any other efficiency improvements are going to have to involve your
authors, most of whom (at least in my experience) are doggedly resistant
to efficiency, often preferring their bibliographies and indexes to
contain thousands of carefully placed returns, spaces, and tabs instead
of a simple hanging indent setting.
But if they were, by some miracle, open to trying something different,
you might make them some Word templates, tell them to use consistent
styles (and to limit themselves to those styles). Another option is
InCopy, which would let your authors bypass Word entirely and end your
    copy/paste business.

  • Import PDF problem on PS CS3

When importing a PDF created from InDesign to Photoshop, the size is wrong. I'm importing a 24x36 pdf and it comes in at24x16. I've tried every 'box' setting, media, bleed, crop, bounding, and none work. I did a text in CS2 and it came in fine. Is this a bug on CS3?
    Thanks, Stan

I have just discovered another aspect of this issue.
If I have the Macbook connected to my router which is then connected to the Mac Pro but the router is not connected to the internet then PS on the Macbook starts up with no problem.
If the Mac Pro is not connected to the Router then PS will not start up on the Mac Book.
I suspect that this behavour started after I installed 10.5.7 - however as I cannot recollect starting up PS in standalone mode prior to last week before I installed 10.5.7 via the combo package.
    So any clues please
