Importing a ,docx document (book)

Hello
I need to use the demo of Indesign4 to import an 80 page book of poetry created in Word 2003. I need to create a PDF with bleed for a 6in x 9in book.
I have converted the document to Word 2007 docx, but when I try to place this into Indesign I can paste in the document, but only the first page appears, even if the Indesign document has 80 pages at 6in x 9in.
Has anyone any idea of what is happening?

Are you pasting or placing (the latter is the correct method)?
Are you familiar at all with InDesign? When you have more text than will fit into a frame, the remainder becomes "overset" and is inthe document, but not yet on a page. You'll see a red Plus sign in the text frame outport to indicate the overset.
You can click the overset indicator with the selection tool to load the remaining text into a cursor for threading into a new frame or frames. By holding down the shift key when you click this loaded cursor you will auto-flow all of the remaining text into the document, adding frames or pages as necessary to hold it all. You can also use autoflow when you place the text in the beginning.
Clicking a loaded text cursor behaves differently depending on what's under it when you click. If there is an empty frame (you'll see the cursor change to have included parentheses, indicating that you will flow into a frame) the text will fill flow into the frame, or if the frame is threaded with others and is not the first frame in the thread, into the first frame.
If there is no frame, a new frame will be created on the fly, with the top edge at the y-coordinate where you clicked, and the width will fill the column guides surrounding that point and the frame will extend to the bottom margin. If auto-flowing, subsequent frames will start at the top margin and extend to the bottom. If new pages are required, they will be based on master of the last page the text flowed into, which can cause some unexpected results if the master has a frame not threaded to another on the opposite side of a two-page spread.

Importing Addresses in Address book from text file

Hello all,
I am attempting to import my address books from Microsoft Outlook into the Address book on the Macintosh.
More specifically, I have several distribution lists under Outlook that I use to send out various newsletters from where I work. These distribution lists have addresses that are specifically NOT within my Contacts under Outlook.
So far, I HAVE been able to get the 400 email addresses exported into a plain text file. This text file has only the email addresses, one per line within the text document.
The problem I have been having is finding some way to make this information "useful" for the address book program. Attempting to import the text file doesn't work (understandably, since I assume the program will only see the text document as "one" card.)
So my question is, how can I import these 400 addresses into the address book under a specific grouping or distribution list? Is there some way I can create individual vcards for EACH of these addresses, THEN import them?
Or am I doing things all wrong from the get-go, and need to attempt something else?

I was thinking that you might just want to drag contacts from Outlook to a folder in Windows -- all the contacts get exported to individual "cards" which I'm pretty sure you can import directly into Address Book.
As for your distribution lists -- I wouldn't be surprised if Mac OS requires everyone on the list to appear in Address Book. If you try creating a list manually, can you include recipients that don't go in Address Book?

Can you please help with importing CDs and audio books?

I tried to search for this topic, but had no luck.
Have been happy with IPOD until today. On trying to import a new audio book to iTunes and then updating IPOD to install on it, I can see the title in both the iTunes Library and menu of IPOD. However, instead of seeing a normal 57:32 (or similar stop time), I am seeing 789:57:13.152. When I try to play it through iTunes or IPOD, it skips it as if it wasn't there and plays something else. I checked out importing a music CD, and find the same problem.

let's first see if you can get the CDs to import normally if you switch off "error correction" in the iTunes Advanced-Importing preferences subtab.
but if no joy there, try checking through the other suggestions from the following document:

Importing the word document in RoboHelp

I am importing a word document into Robohelp 7 HTML. But after the import is completed, the entire word document is converted into a single HTML page. My requirement is that each chapter should be created into seperate HTML file based on the heading level. This will help in creating the book based on the heading level. I was able to do this task successfully with RoboHelp X5 but not with any other higher versions!!!!!

Hi there
The key to this is to ensure the Word document has been styled consistently with headings and other formatting. If it's one of the garden variety where folks just painted across text all willy nilly you will indeed see mixed results.
Pay careful attention to the intermediate dialogs you see when importing the document. The second one should offer a way to split on style.

Import a word document composed in Arabic font (.ttf) into a .fla

Hello Everyone;
I am developing an advance e-book in Flash. My client has composed about 500 books in arabic using Microsoft Word. My client wants search features in this book in which the user will type something in arabic & it will search the ebook text and give him results, so I cannot convert the text into vector or image I have to keep it as text. I want Import a word document composed in Arabic font (.ttf) into a .fla file without losing its formatting. Rightnow I am able to import the font using copy/paste from the word document into Flash, but it changes the font, but I fixed it by changing the text property from "classic text" to "TLF text" which fixed the font. Even though the copy/paste method works without formatting its not practical for my project because there are thousands of pages and copy/pasting them one by one frame by frame is time consuming & not practical.
I need a method or a third party software through which I can convert the word documents into fla or swf keep the font as text & very important without messing up the font and formatting.

no problem if i save the document as a doc. but since upgrading to office 2008 for mac i cannot place the docx documents. what is the fix??

Filter Read Me.pdf that installs with the Adobe InDesign CS3 does not list Word 2008 (latest Mac version) as a supported import format. .docx from Word 2007 (latest Windows version) is supported.
As you own Office 2008 you can save as .RTF or other supported format and import that version of the Word document instead.
For others who might still be on Office 2004: If you require access to the content of a .docx file, you can try downloading the Microsoft Open Office XML File Format Converter for Mac 0.2.1 from www.microsoft.com

Import of Word Document is not working

Hello, I wanted to import a word document but it is not
working. Draging droping is not working (just puts me link) and
through the menu (File > Import > Word Document ... ) is not
working.
Does somebody knows why.

Pages can't open docx documents from Dropbox

I am new to MacBook Air and Pages having just moved from a PC. I have an ipad2 and iphone and create documents on Quickoffice Pro HD and store them in Dropbox. I have been unable to open any .docx documents on my MBA. I have tried opening Pages first and selecting Dropbox from the application. I seem to be able to open .doc documents but saving them back to Dropbox is awkward and they don't end up in the right folders. Other than installing Microsoft Word on my Mac, what can I do to make this work better? I was under the mistaken understanding that Pages played better with MSWord. Is there an app like Quickoffice Pro for the Mac?

Pages opens MsWord doc files but you need to Export files back.
Pages will save where you want it to, it is not an issue with the application.
Try LibreOffice [free] which is available on most OSes, as an alternative to MsOffice. There is also an Office for Mac if you want the greatest degree of compatibility.

Trash/archive Pages 5 and rate/review it in the App Store.

How can I [cmd]+A including text boxes? Or how to import one Pages document into another Pages document?

Hi there,
I am working on my thesis with several Pages documents (for the first time). And I really have searched all over the Internet to find an answer to exactly my question but I cannot find it.
First my question was: How can I import one Pages document into another one? I found the answer on that (I think) and there is nothing else than just make a new section and copy/paste it in.
But then another issue pops up: I cannot [cmd]+A my whole document including the texboxes to paste it in the other Pages document. Then the document will be paste without the textboxes (and I have quite a lot of them in that document) and the text will not be at the right place.
So please explain to me: How I can combine two Pages documents and keep them exactly the way they are? Is that even possible?

I have already tried to mark the textboxes in line but that did not work, and besides then the text and the boxes won't be at the rigt places either. Thank you for your reply .

Possible to do one-time import of Thunderbird address book?

From reading the past 18 months worth of postings, I realize that iPhone communication with Thunderbird is very bad, and it seems to be impossible to sync the Thunderbird address book to the iPhone contacts.
But even if I can't keep them synced, is there a way to do a one-time import of the address book into my iPhone contacts? I can export the address book as a csv text file if that helps. I hate the thought of having to type in all the people in the address book manually, since I have about 100 of them.

There is no such thing. You will have to convert your PDF to an image or extract the text using Acrobat's export features.

Without the iPad connected, open up iTunes on your computer. Go to iTunes/Preferences/Devices and delete the backups that you're absolutely certain do not have the documents. Refer to figure below.
iTunes, select the iPad and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "NO" to creating a backup. (You don't want to create a new backup that does not have the docs.) You will then be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad. This time, say "yes."
Repeat all of the above as required until you get the docs.

Can't Import Outlook Express address book to Pearl 8100

A friend just gave me an AT&T BB Pearl 8100 and I am using it as a phone only with no data plan (it's a company cell phone but they won't pay for a data plan -- I just put my SIM card in the BB). I am trying to connect to my personal PC with the USB cable and import my OE address book. I am using Desktop Manager 4.7, and when I try to synch it a window flashes that says "Synchronization Progress - Processing" for about one second, then that disappears and my phone doesn't get updated. Can someone help me? I searched for this problem prior to posting but can't find this situation. I dread having to type them one by one -- any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Importing Multiple Word Documents into RH

I know that RH allows users to import word documents, however
I was wondering if there was a way to import multiple word
documents (ala batch style import) instead of importing each
document one at a time.

Colum has good advice. Also, since you're new to this, there
are a few curiosities that occur that can be puzzling to newcomers.
If you have graphics in your Word docs (screenshots, etc.) a new
folder will automatically be created. So if the name of your Word
doc is MYDOC.DOC, graphics will be placed in a new folder called
MYDOC_Files.
Another "hitchhiker" to the process is the creation of a CSS
file automatically created for each Word doc. After the import you
have the choice to reassign any style sheet you like, regardless of
the CSS originally linked.
Another tip if you're new to importing, go to Peter Grainge's
excellent site.
