Importing a flash Catalyst .swf file in Flash CS5 ?

Hi,
I found Flash Catalyst by luck while browsing the Adobe website and downloading the Flash CS5 trial...
One simple question....
Can I import a .swf file created in Flash Catalyst into a Flash CS5 .fla as an element ?
I created a scrolling text attached to a custom made scrolling bar in Flash Catalyst, and I would now like to use it in my Flash CS5 project...
Well, I will be waiting for your responses...
Thanks in advance for your help !
Gilbert Gour

Unfortunately you can't import an SWF from Flash Catalyst into Flash CS5.  Flash Catalyst uses the Flex Framework for building the its SWF.  Flash CS5 does not use the Flex Framework and doesn't know what to do with that kind of file.  You can load an SWF from Flash CS5 into your Flash Catalyst project, though.

  • Flash Catalyst SWF file not working in Captivate 4

    Hi,
I downloaded the trial version of Flash Catalyst to use in conjuction with Captivate (I don't know how to write code) so that I have scrolling text boxes in my project. Well, Flash Catalyst works as designed, but when I go to import the swf file into captivate, they don't play nice together. My project is in AS3, which is congruent with Flash Catalyst. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong, or work arounds to get it to run would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Tony

    Hi Tony,
I got your file, thanks! I have not tried it inside Captivate because I was not on the same machine were Captivate is installed. However, if you tried to use,  in Captivate, the main.swf file located in the deploy-to-web folder than you will have some issues. The file in that folder is very lightweight because it will download at run-time the flex framework. Therefore, if the framework is not in the same location as the main.swf when captivate runs, the animation will not show up properly. So, if you copy the other swf and swz in the same folder were Captivate publishes, then it should work.
However, there is an easier way to do this. You have another folder called run-local. This folder contains a bigger main.swf file. This file already contains all the framework part in it. So, if you try to use this file instead, it should work inside Captivate.
Give this a try and let me know if it works out.

  • Director mx 2004 won't display Flash 8 swf files & other Flash media

I have created a Flash 8 Project which has audio, video (which are converted to swf files fom flvs), flashpaper.  This application is driven by XML.
However  this application works fine outside director, but when I import the main swf file into director mx 2004 and RUN it, director won't display the videos (but I can hear the audio from the videos), Director wont show graphic images(eg menu icon movie buttons, and flash buttons). Also I can launch external files (eg text file) from flash, but again it won't work via director.
    ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE

    ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE
I suggest there's no need to shout.
Try linking the Director cast member to the external swf file instead of fully importing it. You also should have the 10.1.1 update in place - this is particularly important.

  • My Flash SWF file inside of my Flash Catalyst SWF won't play when previewed in Dreamweaver?

However, when I preview the flash catalyst swf file, the flash swf thats inside, plays just fine. any suggestions or solutions?

Does the one swf load the other swf?  If so, is the one swf in the same folder as the html file that embeds it?

  • .swf imported in Flash Catalyst shows only the Flash Shockwave icon

I have scoured the FC forums and watched all of the Adobe TV episodes
on importing .swf files into Flash Catalyst but I am still faced with the following problem.
I have a basic animated .swf file that I created in Flash CS5.  I am trying to import that .swf file into a Flash Catalyst project but when I do I only see the blue border around the asset when I click it in the layers panel.  In the top left corner is a small round Flash Icon ( I believe it is the Flash Shockwave version - Blueish Gray). Nothing shows when I "Run" the project nor when I added the .swf file in the local folder from where Flash Catalyst runs the project.
I tried re-publishing the original Flash file in different version of Flash player, but to no avail.  Not sure if I am doing something wrong, or if I have imported incorrectly or what.
Even though I cannot see the .swf file imported into Flash Catalyst, I still tried to add an interaction to play on Application Start, but nothing there either.
At a loss and looking for some direction.
Thanks in advance for your response.
    Cheers!

    Erik -
It's a  pleasure to help someone!  I just got through this as you can see.  Only problem is I just hacked it with no precision, so for example I moved a lot of files to the server to make them accessable and then it played.  But near as I can tell, I'll tell you the story.
There are two things going on.  When you play it locally it's different from when you play it on the web. You are correct, you should see the first frame of the swf  in your animation.  To get it to play (assuming it is set to play)you  then have to control+enter to preview (on windows). The assests are laid out locally in the file structure displayed in the url bar.  no?
Part of it is that there may be several things going on here... All I can do is tell you all the numerous problems I had, made worse because I had 3 different work-stations...
I had problems when I had several swfs floating around in the  library and I think similar names: Eventually I just did a clean export  of the swf (the first one was from Flash... 3?  4?  and Catalyst is  cs5... )  and such to just do the work-flow in one motion.  I had too  many work-stations going on. So that part I finally did cleanly, and when that was settled, I could handle the file issues.
The swf: It does have to be in the same folder, and not in a sub-folder.  Also, all the contents from DEPLOY TO WEB - just drag it into your site folder defined by dreamweaver or whatever and put it on the server at the same level, NO russian dolls (no file folders within folders).  With Dreamweaver, when you upload a swf, you select the MAIN file and supposedly DW pulls files - it does, but not all of them, such as supporting swfs.
I would have thought that DW would do it correctly automatically : It seems to want to: but there are still kinks.
If you're like me, you recognize that catalyst is a powerful creative stage, but this stuff is just annoying and really easier just man-handled with precision once and forgotten about lol.
I heard also some grumbling on swfs that are just too huge or have aspects that don't import well, but it doesnt' sound like a problem in this case.
Do update me  - I'm around this weekend, would love to see you succeed on this.
    Cache,
Thanks for your replies. I have put the .swf file in the  same "local" directory as the main.html for the FC Project I am working  on and no luck locally. However, does the .swf file have to be in the  local directory of the FC project prior to it being imported into FC for  it to work locally?
Also, when I was watching a video  tutorial about inserting .swf files into FC, the graphics/content of the  .swf that was inserted could be seen in the design view of FC. My  imported .swf only shows a small, round flash icon in the corner and  nothing else.  This doesn't seem right to me. Shouldn't one be able to  see the graphics/content of the imported .swf so that  it can be  properly placed in the design? That is how it was in the video tutorial.  If this is also due to the location of the imported .swf then Adobe has  not made that clear in anything I have read or seen.

  • Saving a swf-file for flash player older than 10.3 in Flash CC

    Hi,
I am working with Flash CC and need to save my swf-files for Flash Player older than 10.3.
Is there any chance to do so?
Besides working with CS6 again ;-)
    Thanks for every help!

In the meantime I found a very good answer myself.

  • To Display SWF file or Flash file in Web Page Composer (WPC)

    Hi,
I am goning to add & display 'swf file or flash file' in <b>Web Page Composer</b>.
But it is not allowing me to do so.I tried by three ways
1} to upload this file directly from local machine & to add in WPC
    2}By using linklist option
3}By creating KM Document iview;which contain swf  file.& then adding that iview in wpc.
but at last it is not displaying though allowing to add it in WPC.

    Vishal -
First... we are all new to WPC!
Second, no I don't think you need to create a new container.  I think that you just need to add the swf type as an allowed type for the container.
    So...
Figure out which container you are trying to add the flash file to (as you mentioned, A1, A2, etc).
    Navigate to:
Sys Admin --> Sys Config --> Knowledge Mgt --> Content Mgt --> WPC --> Containers.
Edit the container you want to use.
There will be a box named Allowed Mime Types.
In here, select the "swf" mime type (make sure the check box is checked). Then Save.
At my company, we had the WPC ramp up from SP12, and are now on SP13.
I'm not sure what you get if the first time you had WPC is SP13, but for us I see two default A1 (and A2...B1..C4...etc) containers -- one that has "default" in the name and one that has "def" in the name.  From what I see, SP13 WPC uses the one with "def" in the name, not "default".  So, make sure you modify the one with "def" in the name.
After you make this change, you should see "swf" in the list inside the container when you are editing a page.
Is this clearer?  I wish I could attach a screenshot.

  • Export version 10 SWF file from Flash CC

    Hello,
I am trying to work out how to export a version 10 SWF file from Flash CC. Every media agency I am supplying files to requires version 10 but I can only export a Flash Player 10.3 file which creates a version 12 SWF.
Does anyone have any advice other than buying an odler version of Flash....
    Thanks for your time.
    Keith

you can use flash cs 6.  it's part of your cc subscription.
or you can add fp 10 to flash cc.  here's a walk-through using fp 9: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5511080#5511080

  • How can I save a Flash or .swf file in AVI format without losing quality?

How can I save a Flash or .swf file in AVI (or another video) format without losing quality?

As long as you don't have code in your animation then just hit File->Export->Export Movie, then configure the options.
Here's an article on exporting sound, images and video. Just skip on down to exporting AVI and it explains the process. The codec is in the Video Compression section. When you click Settings for Video Compression, the codec is in the drop-down at the top. There's various kinds but to get lossless quality AVI you'll have to choose Uncompressed / None for full quality. Again, the file will be huge and you'll need to use another program (like Adobe Media Encoder) or Microsoft Windows Media Encoder, etc, depending on what format you intend to compress it ultimately.

  • Saving Flash 7 SWF created in Flash 8

I understand from experience that viewing Flash 8 SWF files
on the Flash 7 Player results in text not showing up. The Flash 8
text is obviously superior, but unfortunately, a major contingent
of my viewers are too afraid, too naive, or their systems are too
messed up to upgrade their Flash Players from earlier versions.
Obviously, to solve the problem, I can save the SWF as Flash 7
backward compatible; however, I am more than disappointed with the
results of this solution. The main problems with this approach is
that the text looks week and the bitmap alignment is no longer
perfect when trying to intermingle my flash content with existing
    background content.
Please someone help me with a better solution by providing me
with a list of parameters that need to be in place so that my Flash
7 files created in Flash 8 look more presentable.

    > Peter, as for a list of parameters, I mean precisely
    what options should
    I
    > check off in the Flash 8 export movie dialog box when
    saving Flash 7
    compatible
    > SWF.
There seems to be come confusion here. It's not a matter of
    'checking off'
options, rather of publish settings. In the 'Publish
    Settings' dialogue,
under the 'Flash' tab, 'Version', select 'Flash Player 7'.
    the important
thing is not to use any *features* that depend on Flash
    Player 8 - these
include (but are not limited to!) filters, any of the new
    text rendering
options (custom anti-alias), any of the new Classes (geom,
    filters, display,
    external) etc etc etc.
    > I cannot dissagree more. I have examples where my symbol

    > tried saving my FLA as Flash MX2004, reopened and

    Flash 7
    > and that didn't help.
Again, you are a bit confused I think. Obviously they will be
    different than
if published for FP8 - that wasn't my point. What I said was:
    > > If you are publishing for Flash Player 7, your text
    and bitmaps will
    look
    > > the same as
    > > they would if yo uhad created the content in Flash
    MX2004.
So, using Flash 8 to author but publishing for FP7 will look
    the same as
using Flash MX2004 ('Flash 7') to create your content. You
    are saying your
bitmaps shrink "compared to when exported normally in Flash
    8" - I never
    mentioned publishing for Flash 8.
    > Hmmm, the exported Flash 7 text (generated in Flash 8)

    > playing it on the Flash 8 Player. Something is converted

Well yes, of course. You said it yourself - you have exported
    for FP7 -
playing it in FP8 won;t magically make it look better! For
    that, you would
    have to *publish* for FP8.

  • How can I import or convert a .swf file into iMovie 8

I've been searching with no luck for a way to convert a flash animation (.swf) file into a format that I can import into iMovie 8. Ideally, this would involve freeware or very inexpensive software. It is important that I maintain the quality (and audio) of the original swf file.
    Can anyone suggest a route?
    Many thanks.

The easiest method is to use screen capture software to "record" the .swf file as it plays.
Since .swf files use vector graphics you can scale it up in dimension (to fit your iMovie Project needs) without any loss in quality.
I'm a happy user of SnapzProX http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox/ as it records in QuickTime formats.
