Importing a .ma file - resolution issues

Hello,
I created a scene in Maya 2012 with Nulls (locators) and a 3D camera at the resolution of 640x360 (square pixels).
When I imported the scene into After Effects CS5.5 the resolution of the composition was changed to 720X360.
I tried different resolutions inside Maya and I figured out that AE is changing the dimentions on import only
when I set the width to 640px. It doesn't matter what the height is and it always changes it to 720px.
Here is an example to make my issue it clearer:
640x555 in Maya will become 720x555 in AE.
but 641x555 in Maya will be the same in AE.
This is an issue for me because manually changing the Comp resolution after the .ma file import, won't reposition
the nulls in 3d space (It just crops the Comp) which will result with unusable nulls data - the nulls won't lineup with my renders.
I already rendered my scene, and I don't wish to rerender it in a different resolution (a non 640px width resolution).

I tried changing it and it didn't help.
I think I figured the cause of it but I still don't have a solution.
I found this in AE manual: Pixel aspect ratio and frame aspect ratio
It speaks about a scenario, like mine, where I have a composition with square pixels
which has a resolution of a standard non-square pixel, and it try to fix it from 640px to 720px.
But as I mentioned in my first post, I can't just resize it to my original resolution.
I read the "Baking and importing Maya data". I already have success with importing data from Maya
on different projects that don't have the resolution width of 640px.

Importing graphics from photoshop resolution issues

Hi,
I'm new at final cut but I'm having an issue with a graphic that I imported from photoshop.
The image is 300 dpi : 2896 pixels by 2175 pixels. I saved it as a targa file
with an alpha channel to mask the graphic. The image looks horrible
"quality wise" in my final cut project. Why is this?
Is there something I have to know as far as sequence settings?
The big issue here is that before I realized the image quality was that bad
I have already done a lot of work. Is there a setting that I can fix
or do I have to re-import my graphics a different way and re-do all my work?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Please be as specific as you can and bear with me
since I am new to video editing terminology.

make sure you don't get confused about the image size here. if you targa file is being used on the canvas where it's edges go beyond the main viewable area, then you DO want it big. I find bigger the better. Photoshop does a better job of sizing stuff to the correct size if you only use it at that size, but it your image is being zoomed in on, then keep it as a big file. targa / .tga files work fine by the way.
I do a lot of animations that i chop together in FCP and its still images manipulated in FCP that are the weak link. It seams that regardless of setting field dominance or exporting as interlaced etc, it will still look ropey on computer. it will look beautiful on TV, but even on LCD tv's it don't look too hot. I think it's all been tailored to DV and interlaced stuff and doesn't seem to capable of being used simply as an 'editor' it's all aimed at importing from camera etc, which is fair enough given who it's aimed at. But i've moved on to After effects which does the job much better, all beit more slowly, more complicated, and generally far less 'apple' which is a pain.
if anyone works out whats going on and if it is fixable i'd love to come back to the FCP party though!

.MTS File - Resolution Issue(s)

Greetings all --
Been awhile since I posted here, mostly because sadly I don't use this software all that often ... I am currently using Premiere Elements 10 on Windows 7 (useful for those who know more about the software than I do).
I have a 1 hour 45 minute or so .MTS file that was recorded at a resolution (frame size) of 1440 x 1080. (PE 10 recognizes the file format, so I first tried working with it without doing anything ...)
When I try to save it out to .AVI or save to a DVD, I end up at 740 x 480. This gives me a pixalated video. It's got lines through it, and when played on the TV I have a small frame inside a big black border. I would like to at least save it to 1080x(whatever the standard is), but can't seem to find a way to do so.
I tried using PE 10, I also tried using Nero 9 ...
Any thoughts? This is discouraging, to say the least. Thanks in advance for advice, suggestions, etc.

Adobe InDesign CS2 - Why does the resolution change when I import a PDF file to InDesgin

When I import a PDF file to InDesgin the resolution from the PDF changes.
Any ideas?

InDesign uses a low resolution thumbnail (might be the wrong way to descirbe, but easiest to visualise) to represent images/files placed into indesign. As InDesign is a page layout program it enhances the speed of the application as it doesn't have to draw the images in full detail, but rather just represent them in their size and position in the layout.
There are 3 viewing settings, available through the View> Display Performance (for the whole document) or Object>Display performance (on an object by object basis).
The resolution of the image from that point on relies on whether it was Vector or Raster, or in PDF and EPS cases, vector and raster. As already mentioned Vectors and PDFs don't contain a resolution. Vectors are mathematical equations that require the device outputting the image to draw them to the best of their abiltiy.
PDFs are a wrapper for a file, it can wrap text, vectors and raster for output.
But all the same, InDesign uses lo-res thumbnails to represent the PDF/Image/Object until ready to output. But you need to adjust the Display Performance.

The problem is in the namespace description LENGTH,
Note the following restrictions for XI or PI installations:
· Maximum length of repository namespaces and XML namespaces: 60 Characters. Due to this restriction, the import of XSD files and WSDL files prepares difficulties as an external definition; you can solve these difficulties using Note 901988.
· Maximum length of object names in the Integration Repository and Integration Directory: 120 characters
As of SAP NetWeaver Process Integration 7.10 Support Package 7, the enhancement of the maximum length of namespaces to 255 is supported in the configuration and runtime.

I'm importing an XML file and I need to transform it with an XSLT stylesheet.

I've learnt a lot since my last posting, so thanks for putting me on the right track then.
I have actually tried what you suggested. I had the same problem with the XML file path when it was hard coded. The object being that I just wanted to replace a static xml doc.
Where I've got      set xmlpath to choose file with prompt "Select the XML"
i also had             set xsltpath to choose file with prompt "Select the XSLT"
                           log xsltpath --(this throws the value of xsltpath in to the results pane of AS)
It still didn't work. It showed the correct path to the file but still failed when run through the script. Bizzare!
The only other thing that I could try is to just define xsltpath as "CWtoINDDElements.xsl", due to the fact that I've told InDesign that I'm getting the XML from the same folder in the 'choose' function.
I'm not connecting to my work VPN at 11.50pm, so I'll try again in the morning.

Just upgraded to Lion and can no longer import any .mov files ("file not supported") to 3.1.3. Also can no longer view any .mov or .mp4 files already in library.

Have been using Aperture 3.1.3 with no problems. Importing from a Nikon D80 (RAW & JPEG), Casio (.MOV) and Flip (.mp4). Could import and view all videos without issue prior to Lion upgrade. After Lion installation, can no longer import .mov files (get "file not supported" error) or even view any .mov or .mp4 files currently in library (even though thumbnail is present). Can watch the .mov files directly on my camera using Quicktime in Finder but can't even drag & drop that file into Aperture. Anybody else having similar problems?

Still no resolution and Geniuses at store could not assist. Unfortunately, it looks like not all the applications were ready to support the Lion operating system. We could not import any .mov files, could no longer view any .mov files already in my Aperture library and could not email any .mov files. Totally frustrated. Use Aperture almost daily and can't lose the video functionality. Was also running dog-slow. Constantly looking at the spinning wheel. Geniuses suggested that I wipe out hard drive and reinstall Snow Leopard. Had full backup on external drive with Time Machine.
Not an easy process though...had to reinstall several times (at 5 hours each time) because I continued to have issues. Finally figured out that I needed to delete every backup file from Time Machine on external drive from the date I installed Lion because some of the hidden files were still migrating back to Snow Leopard.
I had to:
1. Delete all time machine backup files from date/time of Lion installation forward
2. Do "clean" installation of Snow Leopard (wiped hard drive using disk utility and booted with Snow Leopard disc)
3. Chose option to reinstall from backup off Time Machine which eventually got me back to Snow Leopard desktop
4. Deleted Aperture program and reinstalled (I had to install Aperture 2 and then install Aperture 3 upgrade.
5. Reinstalled iLife apps
5. Applied all Apple updates available (again this took a few hours because there were several updates from Snow Leopard's original release plus Aperture 3 and other application updates)
Still doing some tweaking on some of my other apps but got everything back to where I originally was. Now plan to wait on a few version updates from Lion before reinstalling.
I am one of Apple's biggest fans, but was very disappointed in the fact that I lost functionality in one of their own pieces of software (which I use the most!) by installing Lion.

How can I adjust RED files resolution once in a sequence?

Following on from my other RED posts....
I have read that by adjusting the source settings of a an rd3 file I can switch between different resolutions according to whether I am editing (for smooth playback) or exporting.
All this can be done by importing the RED file just once.
I have set up a 4K sequence and looked at the source settings but there doesnt seem to be a option for resolution.
I also looked at the sequence settings but they are greyed out.
Is there a way to work with red files that allows smooth playback during editing but so I can export at full res...all by importing the red file just once?

Older RED Importer plug-ins used to have a way to change the working resolution of the clip directly, by right clicking and selecting Source Properties (or some such). It's the same method we use now to change things like ISO, color balance, etc. There were video tutorials about this work flow around on the Internet. His description of the issue reminded me of those.

How do I import multiple Ai files into one Indesign File - whilst still keeping the Ai Files editable and up dateable for the one Indesign File?

Im relatively new to Ai and Indesign, and have been doing Uni work over Christmas, and have a rather urgent question thats stressing me out.
I originally had many art boards in my ai file, but due to the number, I split these into single files to help my computer run better.
Now I want to organise them into one document to save. From searching online Indesign can import these and save as one file, yet automatically update if the original ai file is updated. I would like to do this but just don't know how to do this correctly?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, effectively I would like to catalogue the files into one collection so i can save as one PDF and Print as one.:)
I know I could save each AI as a pdf them then merge the pdf's together in acrobat, but I have nearly 100 files so would feel more comfortable seeing them all together before print / saving.
My concern is that if I insert them in Ai, will the file resolution reduce? and will the ai still be editable and would it update the indesign file?

While trying to import a schema using Data Dump, I am facing the following issue -
UDI-00018 - Import utility version can not be more recent than the Data Dump server.
Following is the version information of the source and target DB and the utilities :
Source DB server : 10.1.0.2.0
Export utility : 10.1.0.2.0
Import utility : 10.1.0.2.0
Target DB server : 10.1.0.2.0
Export utility : 10.2.0.1.0
Import utility : 10.2.0.1.0
I can figure out the cause for the problem, but don't know how to resolve it.

How did you get thre DMP file created and how are you trying to import the dump file? Could you post the commands you're using, please?

Failed to import publish settings file in Azure Toolkit for Eclipse with Java downloaded from Azure Management Portal

Management portal:

How to import multiple XML files into one inDesign document without copy/paste ?

I use InDesign CS6, and I have several XML files with the same structure. Only the data are different.
I created an Indesign layout with some tagged placeholder frames on merge mode, for automated layout.
Today for each XML file I have to create a new InDesign document to import the XML. Everything works fine. Then in order to have all Indesign layouts one after the other into a single Indesign layout, I have to use the copy/paste function.
I mean for example, copy the contents of all documents to the first one. Or add pages of other documents to the first one, then delete spaces between each page.
So my question is the following:
How to repeat this process without copy/paste function, knowing that the
number of XML files could be unknown.

Mini now has mavericks and latest iLife stuff, I clicked import, was all good, then at end, no videos came across.
Is Mavericks,/iPhoto having a compatibiltiy issue with some video formats....???

Please describe exactly what you did. In moving to a new machine no importing is involved. The best way is to simply connect the two computers together and drag the iPhoto library from the old one to the pictures folder go the new one and launch iPhoto

To provide some clarity here, this resolved the issue for use also. The good news is that it should be relatively easy for anyone with FDM Workbench access to resolve this given the following information from the FDM DBA guide (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/fdm_dba.pdf):
To modify the Oracle Work TablespaceName and Oracle Work Table Index
TableSpaceName configuration settings:
1 Launch Workbench, and log on to the FDM application.
2 Select Tools > Configuration Settings.
3 Select Options > Oracle Work TableSpaceName.
4 In Name, enter the name of the tablespace, and click Save.
5 Select Options > Oracle Work Table Index TableSpaceName.
6 In Name, enter the name you entered in step 4, and click Save.
7 Select Options > Oracle Work Table Bitmap Index Switch, and set the value to Off for Oracle 10g and Oracle 11g.
8 Click Save.
9 Click Close.
Step 7 specifically resolves this issue.

I'm doing a practical in exchange server. I have two servers, First one is the domain controller it's a Server 2012 R2 and the Second one is the server planing to install exchange 2010. it has server 2008 R2. My issue is when i'm trying to setup Exchange
Server 2010 it comes error while installing "error while running 'ldifde.exe' to import the schema file" I tried to fix but i couldn't. Please if anyone know about this error give me a solution.

Can you run these commands from an elevated powershell and try to install exchange.
Import-Module ServerManager
Add-WindowsFeature NET-Framework,RSAT-ADDS,Web-Server,Web-Basic-Auth,Web-Windows-Auth,Web-Metabase,Web-Net-Ext,Web-Lgcy-Mgmt-Console,WAS-Process-Model,RSAT-Web-Server,Web-ISAPI-Ext,Web-Digest-Auth,Web-Dyn-Compression,NET-HTTP-Activation,RPC-Over-HTTP-Proxy -Restart
If that also fails please post the error.
