Importing a movie into Captivate

I need to import a movie into Captivate. I've tried .avi and .swf....flv works great, but the finished .swf file will be placed into an LMS shell, so I won't be able to reference the external .flv file.
The .avi file, when published in Captivate to a .swf, is choppy and the audio is off. I tried changing the frame rate, but it didn't help.
When I converted the .avi to a .swf file, placed it into Captivate and published it, the resulting .swf opened for a couple of seconds then crashed, or closed, or whatever. I just get a blank screen for a couple of seconds, then nothing.
Please advise re: the best movie format to place into Captivate. I can convert the .avi to any format.
Thanks, mp

Well, for starters, Adobe Support people don't lurk in the forums waiting for issues to resolve.
What you mostly have here are users helping other users. Now we do notice that members of the Adobe Captivate Development team have been frequently posting here since version 5 has been released. While I heartily applaud that move and agree that it will only help the product over the long haul, we shouldn't count on it because Adobe says right up front that the forums are User to User and not an officially sanctioned support channel.

  • Import a movie into captivate

    Can I import a .mov file into captivate? Instead of a .swf I
    want to record something with a digital camera, then import it and
    have the user click to wach a video.

    I did find in my own efforts some information about this (I
    am working with a webcam and with Captivate 4, the trial download):
    I am working on pulling together the software apps needed to
    embed a video into our TOTW emails. Here are my findings.
    I saved the webcam video as a .WMV, which was the only option
    with the Logitech app that supports the webcam. I opened the .WMV
    file in Flash, and converted it to an FLV file. So yes, Rick, Flash
    can do it.
    After reviewing the very helpful info at the link below, I
    think the best method will be to insert basically a screen shot of
    your video in the email - the screen shot will look like a video
    player, with the video controls and a floating Start arrow above
    the image - pretty much like you would see when you go into YouTube
    and select a video.
    The user will click on the floating arrow to initiate the
    video. The result can NOT actually be that the movie opens within
    your email itself, for a few reasons. One, it will probably be too
    big to fit anyway, and two, even if you wanted to, the technology
    doesn't support it. (info on the link below explains why)
    So, you need to host these videos on your website - when the
    client clicks on the floating arrow, it will have to open a page on
    your server that will hold the video.

    How can I import a movie into iMovie 09 from a hard drive?  The movie will open and play in idvd but breaks into separate files that can't be downloaded when I try to import.  Can it be done? I am trying to create a disc of player highlights for a collegiate coach, and I am using movie files downloaded to my hard drive from a DVD created on a PC.

    No unfortunately it won't open in quicktime either.  It does the same thing that Imovie does, separates it into two file folders audio and video, and if i select video it opens to reveal 8 files that cannot be selected.  VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.VOB,VTS_01_0.BUP, VTS_01_0.IFO, VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VB, VTS_01_3.VOB.  All of which cannot be opened or selected.
    Opening it in Idvd and folllowing your suggestion works and I get a format code of NTSC.  Is that the same?  Thank you for your time and response.

  • How to import .exe files into Captivate

    I have some Flash .exe files that I want to import into
    Captivate so I can combine the files....and also so I can choose
    the properties for the files (for example, either to run on a loop
    or also to take to a website upon completion).
    So, how do I import .exe files into Captivate?

    Hi Steve
    Unless you can find some sort of a converter out on the web,
    I think you are out of luck. I am aware of the SoThink SWF
    decompiler (
    http://www.sothink.com/product/flashdecompiler
    ) but I'm somewhat doubtful it will work on .EXE files. Perhaps it
    will.

  • Importing MP4's into Captivate 5

    I was told by a fellow e-learning developer that MP4's could be imported into Captivate 5.  I've looked through my training books, and I may have missed it, but I can't find where it states this is allowed.  Does anyone know for sure if MP4's can be imported?

    That makes sense, thanks!  I'll mark the discussion as answered.

    Hi there
    I believe what Lilybiri was saying was that when you import the MP4, Captivate performs a conversion to FLV. Because the conversion may take a while to perform, you are allowed to continue working in Captivate while "in the background" the MP4 is being fully converted.
    The net result is that it will no longer be an MP4 when Captivate presents it to the viewer. It will be an FLV.

  • Cannot import Finalize movie into iMovie

    Upon connecting the Video Camera to my MacBook Pro, DVD Player launches. I quit DVD Player and go to iMovie>Import Movies, but never see how to import the movie into iMovie.

    I have a Sony DCR-DVD103 and when I go to File>Import Movies I do see my Finalized DVD, but all the files including the Import button are grayed out. How can I import the Finalized movie into iMovie?
    The "Import Movies..." option is for importing "edit" compatible files from a hard drive into iMovie '08. If the source files are not already "edit" compatible, iMovie '08 will not let you import them. Instead, try the ""Import from Camera..." option. If iMovie '08 properly recognizes you DVD camcorder, it will import your MPEG2/AAC content by converting all MPEG-2 "P" and "B" frames to "I" frames (which are editable), convert the AC3 audio to AIFF, and place both in an MOV file container with start and/or end time offsets to minimize drift between audio and video. The resulting file can then be edited in iMovie '08.
    If the camcorder is not recognized by iMovie '08, then you will probably have to import the MPEG2/AC3 files to you hard drive and manually convert them to an edit compatible compression format manually using an MPEG-based, third-party conversion application like iSquint (free), MPEG Streamclip (free but requires $20 QT MPEG-2 Playback component), FFmpegX, (donation-ware), Visual Hub (pay-ware), MPEG2 Works (pay-ware), or similar application.

  • Import iTunes movie into iMovie or Motion

    I am a teacher and I wanted to show the movie Hocus Pocus to the kids at my elemtary school. But the school doesn't allow movies with ANY language. I would like to be able to import this movie into iMovie '11 or Motion 5 and block out the cuss words. This is a protected MPEG 4 video, so, none of these programs will let me do this! Any suggestions? (Please don't recomend any video convertors unless they're free, don't have a time limit, and will work with protected MPEG's) THANKS!

    You cannot edit the movies and you cannot legally remove the DRM.
    You can't show movies in school unless it is part of the curriculum (the movie actually pertains to the studies). Simply for entertainment is not permissible (without copright owners permission).

  • Import a movie into a slideshow in iDVD

    I am trying to do the steps as discussed by "Nashed" (Feb. 2009) in regards to making the video stop after each chapter in iDVD. However, the dragging of the clips to the slideshow window is not working. Nothing happens. A red dot with the number one shows up on the clip when I drag it, but when I place it in the window it does nothing. How do I import a movie into the slideshow window in iDVD? I am using iDVD6. Still photos import fine.

    Thanks. I read the thread.
    I am running iDVD6. I set up a test project and tried every conceivable way I could think of to drag a movie into a slideshow, and could not do it--not into the slide show button or the main slideshow editing window, or the slide show window in map view. The movie does end up in the slide show audio well, and I can hear the audio (if I have also put in a photo), but could not see any video. Nor does the movie icon show up in map view or in the main iDVD editing window. I tried dragging the video from the audio well, but that didn't work either. I tried dragging it in from the media pane, my desktop, and from the Movies folder. No luck. I even tried copy and paste, and that didn't work. Playing with the preferences didn't help. I had set up a test project and tried it before I posted my initial response to you saying it couldn't be done. Upon revisiting the issue, I, at least, still can't do it.
    Nor could the person in the thread who uses iDVD6 drag a movie into a slideshow. "Nasher" could do it but that poster was running iDVD7. So, I am concluding that the ability to drag a movie into an iDVD slideshow only exists in iDVD7 or later. That would explain why it isn't "generally known".
    It would be a cool feature if it could be done. Perhaps the answer in your case is to upgrade to iDVD7.
    Hopefully someone on this forum, running either iDVD7 or iDVD6, will see this thread and perhaps can help us out here.

    1. Insert your DVD.
    2. Open Disk Utilities (Application> Utilities> Disk Utilities). Highlight your DVD and press "New Image" on the upper toolbar.
    3. Choose the location you would like to save your DVD from the drop down menu, "Desktop" is usually the best choice. Then click Save.
    4. When finished, your DVD icon will appear on the desktop with the .dmg extension.
    5. With iMovie open, double-click the .dmg  file you created to mount it. The iMovie import window will then appear asking you to choose. Click Import All and wait for the Import to complete.

  • How to import a movie into mac

    When I played a dvd from MAC and it always detroyed my DVD after a few times.  Is there a way to import a movie into MAC?
    Thanks.
    Yuyuki

      If the drive is physically destroying DVD's you need to have it repaired. A DVD should play indefinitely for all intents and purposes.
    There should not be any physical contact between the player and the disk.
    If the system is out of warranty and you don't want to pay to have it repaired there are many 3rd party USB and/ FireWire DVD drives that you can purchase. for a reasonable price.

  • How to import Powerpoint movie into FCP

    I have a powerpoint slideshow from a client and am needing to import it into FCP. In PPT I saved it as "Make Movie", and sought to import as .mov into FCP. When i try to open it, I get error , message, "Out of Memory." I have 27 GB of memory on the main drive, and the file is only 49MB. Any help would be appreciated.

    First find a sharp object, then look for the soft spot on the inside of your wrist...
    or if you must,
    Export each slide as a still file and rework them in Motion. You probably need to set them on a background because NO ONE EVER build powerpoint for text safe in video.

  • Importing Director movies into Flash

    My short Q, which I suspect is a FAQ though it doesn't appear
    on the Director or Flash FAQs on the Macromedia (sorry, Adobe ;-))
    site, is: how can you import Director movies (source .dir, or
    published .dcr) into a Flash movie?
    I had thought this would be simple, that Flash would have an
    import filter for Shockwave movies, as after all both products come
    from the same stable and you can import .swf movies into Director,
    but not so, at least in my copy of Flash 8. Neither can Director
    export as a .swf - the only export format that might just work is
    .avi but I'm damned if I want to create a big video file just to
    reuse a snippet from a Director movie. I did a quick Google search
    for DCR->SWF converters but couldn't see anything obvious to
    use.
    The reason I'm bothered about this is that we've produced a
    lot of e-learning material in Director (a good third of our
    learning objects at
    http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/nursing/sonet/rlos/rlolist.html
    use Shockwave movies) and although we've now moved on to Flash,
    occasionally we want to be able to reuse snippets from Director
    movies in Flash movies. It would be disappointing, to put it
    mildly, were we not able to move content between software
    applications produced by the same company...
    TIA for any answers/suggestions.
    Cheers

    I feel your pain an don't know what's going to happen with
    Director now that Adobe is involved.
    You mentioned that you could export as avi, could you copy
    the scenes in which you want to use into a new director file,
    export that as an avi and conver t that to an flv?
    Just a thought.

    Ok so i am doing this school project and i recorded some film on my camera and then i imported the movies into iphoto. so my plan was to take those movies and move them into imovie.. but when i go to import, and i go to where my movies are, the computer wont let me physically press the movies so that they are highlighted. i kinda need to know why it wont let me import these movies b/c i need these movies to finsh my school project which is due nxt week. thanks so much!

    i kinda need to know why it wont let me import these movies b/c i need these movies to finsh my school project which is due nxt week. thanks so much!
    Since you clips were imported to iPhoto, I assume they were recorded on a digital camera which may use and number of audio and video compression formats. Since a file must contain "edit" compatible formats to be imported by iMovie '08, if the audio and/or video is incompatible, the file will not import. So, the first step is to open your clip in the QT Player and check the "Inspector" window to see what compression formats they contain. Once you know that, you can determine how best to convert the incompatible format(s) to compatible ones.

  • Importing LMS variables into Captivate

    I would like to retrieve data from the LMS (Moodle) running my Captivate course - specifically, capture the students name from LMS and display it in Captivate. I have read a previous discussion on this, but it ended without a definitive answer it seemed.
    Looks like first the SCORM data in the variable first has to be passed to an embedded Flash file through javascript, then passed on to Captivate from Flash. One suggestion from the post hinted it could be done without the javascript step.
    Has anyone had success with this? And with SCORM 1.2 or 2004? I would greatly appreciate some advice if anyone has pulled this off...
    SCORM variable (student's name) -> Javascript -> embedded Flash file -> displayed in Captivate....
    Thank you in advance to anyone who can help!

    Why sure...this works with Flash AS3, CP5.5, and Moodle as the LMS...
    First, I created a small 10x10 px, one frame flash file to import into Captivate (just want the AS code to run, its hidden in a black part of my background in slide 1...)
    Then entered this code into the frame:
    //Get LMS student name from SCORM
    import flash.external.ExternalInterface;
    try{
    //Assigns the LMS student name to a string
    var UserName:String = String(ExternalInterface.call('g_objAPI.LMSGetValue','cmi.core.student_name'));
    //To separate the first and last name...
    var LastName:String = UserName.slice(0, UserName.indexOf(","));
    var FirstName:String = UserName.slice(Number(UserName.indexOf(",")+2), UserName.length);
    }catch(err:Error){
         trace("Not in an LMS Currently");
    //Send first name to Captivate
    var myRoot:MovieClip = MovieClip(root);
    var mainmov:MovieClip = MovieClip(myRoot.parent.root);
    mainmov.FirstName = FirstName;
    Then, placed this flash file on slide 1 of my Captivate lesson, where I display the value of FirstName I get from Flash. You know, "Welcome, $$FIrstName$$"!! Then when I start my lesson in Moodle the FirstName shows up...
    A quirk though, it didn't work at first - it seems that when Moodle would start the Captivate lesson  and the AS in the Flash file executes at the same time, it wouldn't pull the first name. So I set the Flash movie  to delay for .5 seconds in the timeline, so the Captivate lesson would start, a very brief pause, then the AS code executed and I got the FirstName. And also, the Captivate text box with the $$FirstName$$ variable display has to appear after the Flash code has got the FirstName from LMS, so I set it to delay 1 sec on the timeline.
    That was it, I didn't add anything to the external .js file. Maybe this will help somebody! Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction...
