Importing a .par file

Hi all,
Can anyone explain in detail How to import a .par file into nwds webdynpro perspective and how can i upload/export it to PCD after commiting changes.
The proper answer will be awarded with 10 points
Thanks and Regards
sam

HI,
Open NWDS,
Go to File->Import
Select PAR file
It will say create a portal application using a par file..
After you do all your changes..
You can deploy the par file on the j2ee engine(WAS) on which your portal is present..
For this you need to configure the j2ee engine.
Go to Windows-> preferences
Select SAP j2ee engine.
Now there are two options here.
Select the option you want depending on whether you are working on the server machine or some remote machine.
Fill in the details accordingly.
Click on apply.
Now when you deploy the par file you can see this on your portal if you create a iview from a par file..
Hope it helps

Nikhil

  • Importing . PAR file from portal to Netweaver Developer Studio.....

    Hello all,
When I Deploy the BP of MSS on Portal, I got one standard Webdynpro application which has some functionality. Now I want to customize this application hence I have imported the par file for this Application in NWDS, But in NWDS this file creates a project which has files with .EPA extension & nothing else . No contents in Portal-inf folder & dist folder.
I am not able to find how can i change the functionality of that application ???
In short I want to customize the WebDynpro application in NWDS, but not getting code familier , how should i proceed ??
    thanks,
    Smita

    Hi,
First of all, u have not imported par file. U have imported the epa file. That is why u don't get files in portal-inf folder. Webdynpro applications are available as ear file which can't b imported into NWDS. So I don't think u can get that application for customization into NWDS.

  • Error while importing logon par file

    Hi
I have to do logon page customisation for that i have taken com.sap.portal.runtime.logon.par.bak file from basis team and i saved it to my desktop .Now i have renamed it to com.sap.portal.runtime.logon.par and trying to import to my NWDS.
So i opend EP perspective file->import->browsed the par file in place of Archive file name when i click on finish it is showing the error "invalid END header(bad central directory offset).
"The plugin com.sap.portal.plugins.config-archiver"caused an exception during the unpack operation.see log for more details"
Can anybody please let me know the reason for this error .
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
After renaming com.sap.portal.runtime.logon.par.bak to com.sap.portal.runtime.logon.par. Try opening the file with winrar/winzip to see if you have a right par file structure. On some portal versions, when you open com.sap.portal.runtime.logon.par file, you have again a com.sap.portal.runtime.logon.par file inside it.
So if you find com.sap.portal.runtime.logon.par file inside com.sap.portal.runtime.logon.par. Then just extract it again and try importing it into NWDS.
    Please refer to [link|NWDS Log - PAR import error;
    Hope this helps!!

  • Error while importing logon par file into NWDS.

    Dear Friends ,
I m trying to customise the logon screen for my project. For this I have downloaded the "com.sap.portal.runtime.logon.par.bak" from portal server instance with the help of basis team. I have locally saved this file on my desktop[. I have renamed the file as .par and removed the .bak extension. Now I have tried to import the file onto NWDS in EP perspective by following File>Import>Par file. But its giving me this error:
    error in opening zip file
Reason: Sorry, an error occured creating the new project.
The plugin "com.sap.portal.plugins.config-archiver caused an exception during the
"Unpack" Operation See log for more details.
In some of the solutions provided in SDN saying that after renaming the file to par open with zip if i done it is again showing the error as "Start of the central directory not found .Zip file corrupt.Possible cause :file transfer error."
    Kindly suggest me the solution.
    Thanks and regards.

    Hi,
I think you have taken this file from a wrong path and hence this issue.
Pls download the par file from the below path and try importing it into EP perspective..
    System admin> Support>Portal Runtime > Browse Deployment>
Browse through the following to find the com.sap.portal.runtime.logon.par.bak file:
    WEB-INF u2013> deployment u2013> pcd
    Root>WEB-INF>Portal>Portalapps> temp--> download the com.sap.portal.runtime.logon.par.bak

  • Importing ESSWelcome Par file into Eclipse

    Hi Portal Gurus,
I am just trying to import the ESSWelcome.par file into Eclipse 2.1 and doing some changes into that. Could someon shed some light on how to do this stuff in eclipse? Because i am getting exception while i am trying to export it back into pdk. Appreciate your help on this

I would like to explain my process further over here. I have the par file(ESS) with me which is provided by SAP. If i keep it explicitly in the tomcat\webapps folder its working fine without giving any exceptions.
    If i try to deploy the same par file from eclipse after importing and building them. Its giving exception. I believe, i am missing some steps over here at eclipse. Could you please give me the exact workflow to do this process? I would really appreciate your help. By the way, exceptions i got are as follows;
Service request fails and Null pointer exception

  • Importing a PAR file ---- not able to retrieve java class files(components)

    hi all....
i've gota .par file....which i imported into NWDS.
i can find all da files except the component classes i.e java class files...in the corresponding packages.
    can anyone help me.....
    thanx in advance....
    regards,
    Sudheer

    Hi Sudheer,
you do not need the NWDS to find out what's in a PAR file. Basically, PAR files are ZIP archives. Rename the the PAR file (change the suffix to ".zip") and open it with your standard archive tool (WinZip, WinRar, etc.)
    Best regard,

For my query I saw a similar thread in sdn forum. the link is given below.

I have unzipped the par file and inside this there is no other par file. So I have to import this par file only.

  • Par file get demage after import it to NWDS

    Hi everybody,
i if download a par file from portal and import it as par into NWDS i cannot run the application in the portal
again after deploying. For example, i have downloaded com.sap.navigation.masthead.par. I rename it and
import it into NWDS. I deploy the par file and create a iView which was added to my Default Framework
page. I get the following error:
    Portal Runtime Error
An exception occurred while processing your request
If i did not import the par file into NWDS and edit it manually i can deploy and run it without a problem.

    Hi..
Refer this for Successful importing of .par files..
    [Re: importing a .par file]
    Also
Just right click on project to properties->java build path-> add external jars add the jar file servlet.jar.
You can download servlet api jars from [http://java.sun.com/products/servlet/download.html]
    In addition to this,
Go to Navigator tab of the same perspective and add the same jar to lib folder..
    Hope it helps..

  • Imported par file to NWDS, jar file missing. Where find par file structure?

    Hi All,
We want to implement idle session timeout on the portal.  We found a wiki here on the subject.  In order to implement the solution we need to make adjuestments to com.sap.portal.navigation.masthead.par.bak.  When we import this par file to Netweaver Developer Studio, the libraries and jar files are missing.  So obviously it errors then in portal as files are missing.
So I could add them manually but I don't know what the file structure is on this par file so don't where to add what.  Does anyone know?
Also when I export the file after manually adding the missing files, will it export all the files or will it behave the same way as the import and leave out the additional files?
If anyone could help, I'd really appreciate it,
    Kind regards,
    Liz.

    Hi Bala,
I thought of that just before you responded and it worked!!  Thanks for the response..

  • Import .par file into NWDS and Rum it without deploying ?

    Hello All,
I'm new to the NWDS and the Portal.
I've many Qns on my Requirement. Hope u guys can help me out in resolving my Issues.
Is this  the right forum to place my Query ?
If not then please let me know the right forum .
My Requirement is like this :-
    1. I need to create a Portal Application which calls an URL.
    2. But before developing this, my Client gave me one 2 options :
         a. He gave me a par file and asked me to make  changes in it.
         b. Create a new Portal Project which calls the URL ( Predefined ).
    3. I wanted to check the 1rst option i.e  " a ".
    4. I tried to Import the .par file into NWDS like this :
    * Windows --> Open Perspective --> Enterprise Portal .
    * File --> Import --> Par FIle.
    * I gave the name of the Project as PortalLogon.
    5. I searched in the forum on this scenario and I found that the libraries for this project are not automatically imported.
<b>A .Can any one tell me how to import the libraries and which are all the libraries to be imported ?</b>
<b>B. How to test my PortalLogon Project without deploying ?</b>
Is it possible to test this Project without deploying ?
If yes can anyone tell me hoe to do this ?
    Regards,
    Deepu.K

    Hi Deepu,
Usually Server will be having all the jar files and If you want to deploy your par file using NWDS you need to give a path to your Jar file location.
So better download all the jar files from your server and keep it in your local desktop.
Create a new folder called "JarFiles" in your desktop and keep all of your jar files inside.
Download Jar finder from IBM Site ( search for "Resolving Java Classpath Issues" in SDN ,you will get a pdf and follow it.).Add it as a plugin to your NWDS path.
    Restart NWDS.
Now you can resolve the jar file issues.there are many weblogs /articles/forum QAs regarding this.
If u need more clarification, please let me know.
    Thank you.

    hi Deepu,
for simply displaying a URL, you can use the commonly available URL iView.
your folder->new->create iView->iView from template->URL iView and then enter your URL
    for the other think.......
you can create an iView from PAR file.
your folder->new->create iView->Iview from PAR->then select your PAR and create an iView for that.
and the last one.......to see the effect without deploying it on the portal......refer the link
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/23/c0e240beb0702ae10000000a155106/content.htm
and the usual libraries to be associated are
    <b>htmlb.jar</b>  and
    <b>com.sap.portal.htmlbbridge.zip</b>
    Cheers........
