Importing a sequence of photos

Hi, I am sure this is a newbie problem, but I am a newbie.
How can i import over 700 photos into the stage, automatically
creating a new frame for each photo so they play in sequence. I
need this for a stop frame animation project. I have done some
research and apparantly flash does this automatically if I open a
new doc, new keyframe, highlight it, file > import > import
to stage, then select my photo sequence, which is numbered 1 - 734.
It is then supposed to recognise the sequence and do it all for me.
Not only is it not doing this it is also resizing my photos.
Help!!

If your sequence is properly numbered then when you import
the first image
Flash will say something like ' sequence detected - should I
import the
sequence or just this image?' If it's resizing anything on
import then it's
probably because the images are not 72dpi.

  • Imported image sequence in PP CC 2014 causes animated layers to flicker

I have a project which has a primary layer formed of imported JPGs that are in sequence. These are shots from a time lapse and are sequentially named and imported without issue into Premier Pro. I then have a secondary layer with a simple After Effects composition that comprises a slow fade and animation of some title text. The problem I have is that during playback in PP (or once rendered) the animation of the text in the AA layer flickers. Watching it frame by frame in the preview window it is slowly fading in but each alternate frame it's opacity seems to go back one frame before advancing.
Now I can completely fix this by exporting the image sequence clip in my bin to a video file. If I then replace the image sequence with a video made using exactly the same images it works fine and the animation is perfectly smooth. My question is why does PP not treat the imported image sequence the same as a video with its interaction with other layers?

    Hi there.
Looking at the footage, you are exporting at 24P. There are books written on 24P and how to shoot (or edit) for it. What I see as a possible mistake.
You are moving the photo too fast across the screen. That could be the same as panning too fast in 24P. Same result. The video clips are moving much slower and don't show the staggering.
    Give it a try.

  • Sequencing of photos?

I am a novice at Aperture (3.1.2) but enjoy using it; and I am a very amateur photographer.  A "1st grade" question:
I imported some 150 images as a Project.  I then went through them and did some sorting into 5 Albums.  One of these Albums ended with 78 images.  Within that Album I then manually sequenced the photos in an "artful" string.
Then I exported the images (Versions) to iPhoto '11 (9) - simply because I am more familiar and like editing the pictures in iPhoto.  Of course, when imported to iPhoto the sequencing I had made in Aperture album was completely lost/changed.  I went through the 78 pics and edited each in iPhoto.  I then exported them to a file on my desktop.
I then imported the edited pics from that desktop file back into Aperture into a new Project.
Now, my problem is how to get the newly edited and imported images in the Project into the same "artful" sequence as in the original Album.  (My ultimate goal is to create a new Slideshow.)
    (1) Do I just have to laboriously manually (re-)sequence the Project to match the Album from which they were exported? or is there a shortcut? (I have only tried using Stacks once, if that is relevant.)
    (2)  How should I have done this in the first place? since I like editing in iPhoto:  Instead of sequencing in Aperture, just exported the Album to iPhoto, edited, import back to Aperture -- and then done my creative sequencing.
    (3) Where should I go to read/learn about this (in Aperture Manual and/or elsewhere)?

I'm with Kirby and want you to pick one or the other to 'edit' your photos. Offhand, there aren't any iPhoto editing features that aren't easily available in Aperture. (And one or two iPhoto 'features' like Vignette are miserable.) Reading about "Adjustments" should point you in the right direction. Aperture's Presets>QuickFix>AutoEnhance does much of what Enhance does in iPhoto, then tweak the Highlights and Shadows.
Also, Exporting, fiddling, and re-Importing might lead to confusion about what/which is the original Master image, which Aperture takes some trouble to keep you from messing up.
That said, and because it might be useful in another context, you can rename the image versions when you export them and prepend a digit-counter. That will give you a set of named files that will sort pretty easily and (re)import in the sequence you want. I'm saying this because you may also want to send someone a group of photos that you arranged in a specific order and you want them to naturally appear that way in their email, on a USB stick, or whatever.
In the Export screen, pick the Name Format field and Edit the stock names. Create a new one (click the '+' at the bottom) and make one that says "Counter 'space' Version Name", setting the number of digits appropriate for your export. (You want 001, 002, 003,... , not 1,2,3,... or you will have some sorting problems.)
    Make sense?

  • I just downloaded Yosemite and all my iPhotos have disappeared! I tried importing them from the photo library but it said there wasn't enough space on my hard drive which is rubbish, because they were there before. How do I get them back to iPhoto?

I just downloaded Yosemite and all my iPhotos have disappeared! I tried importing them from the photo library but it said there wasn't enough space on my hard drive which is rubbish, because they were there before. How do I get them back to iPhoto?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Multiple empty Last Import albums in iPad Photos

I use the camera connection kit to pull photos from an SD card into my iPad 2. This has worked perfectly for about half a year. Recently after importing, I noticed that instead of a single "Last Import" album in the Photos app on the iPad, there were several. One contained the photos just imported, the rest were empty.
They can't be selected for deletion straight out of the iPad through the edit option, seemingly since I didn't create them but the system did.
I pulled all the photos off the iPad. The empty albums remain.
Bringing in new photos from an SD card creates another album. That ones goes away when the pictures in it are deleted/imported, while the empty ones remain.
I deleted the "iPod Photo Cache" from the hard drive that the iPad syncs its photos to. And even stopped having iTunes sync any photos to the iPad.
I'm still left staring at 14 Last Import albums.
This seems to have occurred since upgrading to iOS 5.1. I am not using iCloud to sync photos.
Now I've got my iPad 3 and have restored it from the backup of my iPad 2 and now the empty albums are on it too.
I've tried everything I can think of. I've only seen one other discussion here and its hard to believe this has only happened to so few users.
Other suggestions? Does Apple have a fix or workaround?

  • What's the best way to import ALL of my photos (34k +) and then share?

    *Part I - importing:*
I've got approximately 34,400 photos on a networked drive that I need to be able to control using iPhoto. I want these files to stay on the network drive, but also be controlled by iPhoto (organized by date). Right now our photos folder on the network drive is a bit of a mess, some folders are named by date only and some are named by the event itself ("birthday 2009", etc.). I want this naming to go away in place of the iPhoto method (by date only). FYI, I am familiar with how to get to the "original" and "modified" folders/files within the iPhoto Library.
Question: Is there a way to get iPhoto to organize the photos (all by date) an leave the original photos on the networked drive? or do I need to:
    > Import ALL photos into my iPhoto with the "import photos into iPhoto Library" option checked (iPhoto copies all original files to my laptop hard drive)
    > Then manually move the file structure (all new folders created - by date) back to my networked drive
    > THEN...remove all photos from the iPhoto Library and re-import the newly organized photos from the network drive but unchecking the "import photos into iPhoto Library" option.
Right now, both of our MacBook Pro's use iPhoto to access those photos independently of one another (each laptop does their own thing). This also creates problems because when files are imported on my laptop they are saved locally (on my laptop) and not on the network drive, same goes for my wife's laptop. Then she's not able to see those new photos.
    *Part II - sharing:*
I'm also in the process of trying to figure out the best way to share all of our photos between our different laptops. Using the "sharing" function in iPhoto isn't ideal since that requires both laptops to be on.
My understanding of sharing the iPhoto library itself (having it saved on the networked drive) between two laptops is that only one laptop can access this library at a time, or there's potential of having the files become corrupt (two laptops trying to access the file at the same time).
Question: What's the best way to share photos between two laptops?
    Thanks in advance

    RONBO
Is there a way to get iPhoto to organize the photos (all by date) an leave the original photos on the networked drive?
Yes there is. But I don't recommend it as a way of working with iPhoto.
Simply go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import'.
Now iPhoto will not copy the files, but rather simply reference them on your HD. To do this it will create an alias in the Originals Folder that points to your file. It will still create a thumbnail and, if you modify the pics, a Modified version within the iPhoto Library Folder.
However, you need to be aware of a number of potential pitfalls using this system.
    1. Import and deleting pics are more complex procedures
    2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them on systems prior to 10.5 and iPhoto 08. Even with the later versions issues can still arise if you move the referenced files to new volumes or between volumes.
    3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
The problems arise when you change the path to the Files. iPhoto has no way of reconnecting that path and you could find yourself resolving aliases one at a time for all 34k Photos.
Other apps, such as Aperture have a command to re-connect with the master files.
FYI, I am familiar with how to get to the "original" and "modified" folders/files within the iPhoto Library.
Good for you but never, ever access the files this way. Period. Within the iPhoto Package File there are no user sercviceable parts.
All your work gets done in the iPhoto Window. Everything you need to do can be done from there - and must be.
Then manually move the file structure (all new folders created - by date) back to my networked drive
Never, ever break up the internals of the iPhoto Package File. You'll break iPhoto if you do.
Also, what format is that Networked Drive? iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, saving edits and sharing the photos.
Question: What's the best way to share photos between two laptops?
If simultaneous sharing is your goal then you need to use a Media Server app. iPhoto isn't one.
The key really is the format of the NAS. IF you can make it Mac OS Extended (Journaled) then you can easily store your Library on it and share it. Otherwise you need to use another application for the job.

  • Quicktime Pro 7.6.9 crashes when I try to import image sequence

    Hi,
I'm running Quicktime Pro 7.6.9 on a Windows XP machine with service pack 3.
I shot some timelapses with my Nikon D7000 as jpegs and while trying to import the image sequences into Quicktime so I can export them out as .MOVs, I noticed that Quicktime crashes when ever I try to import a sequence that has 240 or more pictures. Most of my timelapses have 240 or 360 pictures. I was able to import a sequence that had only 180 pictures. Does Quicktime Pro 7.6.9. have an image sequence limit that I don't know about? I don't have any sequences that are anything between 180 and 240, so I can't test out numbers like 190, 200, 210, etc.
    Any ideas on what's happening?

The files are 4928x3264 JPEGs. I'm trying to make 1920x1080 .MOV files. Quicktime crashes as soon as I select the first pic from the image sequence.
I tried another sequence that had 600 pics and it worked fine, so it's obviously not some sort of image limit. But I can't figure out why these three sequences that each have 240 images would cause the program to crash everytime.

  • Importing picture sequence in Media Encoder ? like in the help

If you look in this help document   http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AdobeMediaEncoder/4.0/WS8A54CAA7-268E-4af0-B8A4-0EA3EACEC1A3.h tml
it says you can import TGA sequence and JPG sequence. From the document :
    - JPEG and JPEG sequence (JPE, JPG, JFIF)
    - Targa and Targa sequence (TGA, ICB, VDA, VST)
but I was unable to do that. You can drop a jpg file in MEdia Encoder and it will convert just fine - but only the first frame. How to load the entire sequence ?

I'm trying to import. When you're working with 3d graphics and rendering - the common work-flow would be to render a series of frames, a sequence. Many people work like this also even with normal footage.
Or some programs expect also a sequence. For example the software Nuke (commonly used for compositing in films like Watchmen and Avatar).
And because I think Adobe Media Encoder is one of the fastest encoders around I would like to use it to convert a sequence of JPG in a WMV or H264.
Since it can export a sequence of TGA or BMP it's only normal to expect that it can read also a sequence. And more so the Help says it can :
    Supported still‑image formats :
JPEG and JPEG sequence (JPE, JPG, JFIF)
Targa and Targa sequence (TGA, ICB, VDA, VST)
But if I drag a JPEG file in the encoder - it reads only the first frame. Is there a special method to read the rest of the frames ? Maybe a script , or maybe I have to make a text file like a playlist ..or something.

  • Some or all of the photos you selected were downloaded from your published albums. You can only view these photos. To use them in an album or a slideshow or project, you must import them to your photo library.

Please Help me out to delete them. Some or all of the photos you selected were downloaded from your published albums. You can only view these photos. To use them in an album or a slideshow or project, you must import them to your photo library.

What that's telling you is that some of the photos you want to use are not in your Library but online in a gallery you have linked to. You need to download them first.

  • Importing Image Sequences...

When I export a video clip into an image sequence and import those images back, they become 10 second long stills. How do you import them and automatically have their duration as only 1 frame?

or use quicktimepro to import image sequences and do a save as a quicktime movie. FCP can choke on the sheer number of files involved in an image sequence.

  • I have a Nikon S6300 and when I import into iPhoto the photos don't show up in events or photos only in recent imports

I just purchased a Nikon S6300 camera and when I import into iPhoto the photos don't show up in either photos or events only in recent imports.
I have Snow Leopard on my MacMini.

Control-click one of the photos under the Recent import and select "Show Event" in the contextual menu. Or you can use the View ➙ Sort Events menu in the Events mode to reset the sort order so the new import will be either at the top or bottom of the list.

How have you tried to do that?
You don't have to import iPhoto to Photos, you have to open she iPhoto Libray in Photos.
Either drag the iPhoto Library (not the application) onto the Photos icon in the Dock.
Or launch Photos while holding down the alt/options key to select your iPhoto Library for migration.
Where i your iPhoto library stored? On an external drive or your system drive?

    Welcome to Project Siena!
If you're seeing an 'x' instead of your photo in the data source it's possible that Project Siena can't access the directory.  Try saving your images in another folder such as C:\Users\Public\Pictures.
Others have also reported that if the Library isn't set up correctly in Windows 8 that they've had issues.

I am going on an Alaskan Cruise that has no internet service, can I still import and edit my photos? Do I have to have internet for Lightroom 5?  Any help with this question would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

If you have purchased the perpetual license version of Lightroom, no internet is needed.
Someone else can probably answer if you have the Creative Cloud version, but I seem to recall that it only has to "log in" to Adobe to check that you've paid once every 30 days.
