Importing a video in Photoshop CS3, only white background appears?

Uhm, hello. I have googled about this for a couple of hours and I can't find an answer. Ok, so here's what I do.
File>Import>Video Frames to Layers>Then I choose the video and also the parts I want>OK. But only white background appears. Also the frames are all white. Please help me. Really want to know how to create .gifs. Thank you!

Import the video as a new video layer (Layer --> Video --> New layer from file), add your watermark as another layer, then export the whole shebang using File --> Export --> Render Video. Be aware though, that there are severe limitations in what formats Photoshop accepts, exports and how they are compressed, so you may wish to check out After Effects or other tools...

White background appears grey

Still trying to learn my D7000 and still have lots of questions!!!!!
Yesterday, I took a number of experimental shots (a red phone cord lying on a white background). The white background (an artists white canvas lying on the floor) was well lit from above using 5600K lights.
The shots were all taken using auto focus, auto exposure, etc and in the view finder everything appeared to be correct, but on later viewing the photos, the white background appears to be grey.
I have attached a sample image to show the grey colour.
Can anyone explain why the background is grey --- especially when using the auto mode when taking the photos.
I am not concerned about the picture quality only the grey background and I did not undertake a WB as I thought that this was part of the auto mode when taking the photo. the shot was taken by half pressing the shutter release butto to ensure that everything was OK then continuing to fully press the button.

In the viewfinder while taking the photos the background appeared to be fully white and when looking at the canvas, there was no obvious sign of any colour variation.
Also, I was under the impression that when using auto mode, that everything (including automatic white balancing) was done for you by the camera.
This camera is sure different to my trusty old Nikon F3 ---- looks like I will have to go back to the book and undertake a lot more reading (only up to page 50 so far!!!!!!!).

White background appears "gray" after export

Hello, I have created a short video with a white background (title screen) and no matter what compression settings I use to export the file to Quicktime, I always have the same problem -- the white background appears gray in the final video (with the exception of the uncompressed YUV422 setting).
Does anyone know why this is happening? Thanks!

Importing Cut Out Images from Photoshop w/out White Background?

Hello Everyone,
I am brand new to Illustrator. I have been a Photoshop user all these years. I am trying to import a photo to Illustrator CS5 that I cutout using this method:

Unfortunately it superimposes itself into Illustrator with a white background when I thought it would be transparent surrounding the image. I opened the file in Illustrator as a PSD. But I tried .jpg as well. Anyone know how to work around this?

Well from the looks of the tutorial which leaves a lot of info out you ended up flattening the image so that the background is now white but that is hard to tell from the tutorial.
If your background is white you should rmove it in in photoshop and save the image as a psd with no background layer only a transparent layer of the subject.
Then place that .psd in Illustrator and your background will be transparent.
I suggest placing it rather than opeining it in AI.
Like such: (even my signature is a psd on a tansparent layer.)

I'm still running Photoshop CS3 which insists on Java SE 6.
The rest of the apps need the modern versions.
How can I force Photoshop to run SE 6 while other apps use the current version?

Thank you, Kappy. Full release Photoshop is just too pricy, so I purchased Photoshop Elements. So far it has done what I need to do. I'll just uninstall CS3.

How to insert cropped images from photoshop without the white background

Basically all I want to do is take a peice of writing from a video and insert it into another video. To do this I've took a screenshot of the font from the video and imported it into photoshop. I've then cropped/cut/took the the peice of writing I want, letter by letter. I want to be able to insert it into another video, but whenever I attempt to do it, I have the default white background of photoshop. Is there anyway to insert an image from photoshop, without taking the background with it, or even insert a layer from photoshop straight into final cut pro? Sorry if this is confusing.

I don't think so. I cropped the letters, put them each an individual file, removed the background, saved them as a TIF then tried to import them onto Final Cut Pro, but a white background still appeared in the TIF file. Basically I just want to make the background transparent I believe.

Photoshop CS3 .png format not appearing in the "Save As" drop down?

I have been searching all over the internet and forums like this for a solution but have not come across one that works. I have tried installing an update for .png 8 bit and replacing the .png format file entirely, and to no avail. I'm sure all updates are there for my Photoshop CS3 because I just had my lap top worked on and they had to re-add my CS3, so I think that if any updates were needed they would have done that. I have worked with programs like Photoshop for awhile now but I do not know to much about it's inner workers (files, etc.) so I am not sure what the problem is, and I really need this fixed ASAP. I am working on work and I need that .png format. I can't do without it and .png shows up in the "Save For Web Devices", but I am using trasnparency and it is not doing any justice to my images.

White background appears cream colored

Hi,
If I create a white background (#FFFFFF) or anything white for that matter in elements, it appears cream colored. Every other program on my computer handles white correctly.
I don't think I have done anything to the color profile. What should I do to correct this?
And what program should I trust to tell me the correct colors? My pictures look totally different in Picasa vs. Elements. I'm thinking Picasa is telling me the truth since white looks white.

Go to Edit|Color settings. If it's set to 'Always Optimise for Color Screens', try setting 'No Color Management'. Otherwise, set optimisation for the screen. Did that make a difference? If it did, then the issue is most likely with the profile.
The French have a saying, "one doesn't argue about tastes and colours"; in other words, there is no such thing as absolute colour perception. Most of us tend to look for consistency rather than ultimate truth, and consistency is your problem.
If you can, it's always good to calibrate your monitor with a hardware calibrator. I use a Spyder2Express. With a calibrated screen, I see no difference between images in different programs (including PSE 6), provided that those programs recognise and use monitor profiles of course.

Problems importing DVD video files into CS3

We own a copy of a guest service video that I'm trying to edit down for a condensed version used in our in-house training.
I use PP CS3 and have saved the video files off onto my hard drive, but they are not importing into PP.   I'm having a non-supported format error message.
The files look just like those I saved and imported successfully from our corporate orientation DVD, except for file extensions that are showing up on these guest service files; where they did not on my first project.
These new file names are: VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.VOB   and   VIDEO_TS.BUP.
Any wisdom would be appreciated!    I'm wondering if they are encrypted or secured, but the DVD is from 2001 and it seems unlikely.

I understand. I came to video from a similar background, though I did have a degree from film school, as a foundation. Back then, video was live feed, or archived to 2" tape, that could only be edited with tape and a splicing block. They did not even have deck-to-deck editing yet.
I'd spent decades with PS and AI, before I came to PrPro and to digital video. Since there was a 3-decade lag between my cine days, and when I first hit PrPro, I still have a lot to learn, and that's my main purpose for spending time in this forum - learning.
Good luck, and hope that the material can be Imported and edited just fine. Now, the MPEG-2 format/CODEC is not ideal and on several fronts, especially quality, it can be done, and done pretty well. It's the variables, that can get in the way, and sometimes, one has to side-step those with maybe ripping software, or other processes, many of which are covered in that article. More than one way to "skin the cat... " Right now, we're X'ing our fingers that the simple method will work. If not, do not give up, as there ARE other things that should get you editing.

Importing M4V - I get audio but only white screen

I've imported a very large m4v file into iMovie (33gb) which was ripped from a DVD using Handbrake.
I get the audio with no problem, but the picture is white - I get nothing at all, the timeline marker moves across as normal but the preview window is white.
I downloaded the x264 codec to try and combat the problem, but I still get the same.

The file I was using was created by Handbrake (ripping a chapter from DVD).
For some reason, when I had the output quality setting (on Handbrake) at 100% the videos won't show up in Streamclip. When I reduce the quality (or leave it at the default setting, which is usually about 60%) the files are working fine.
If someone can tell me how to maintain 100% quality in Handbrake, and still have Streamclip recognize the video, that would be great.

Pixelated Smart Object import from Illustrator to Photoshop ( CS3 )

For years everything was glorious when I imported graphics from Illustrator to Photoshop.... And now all of a sudden, every time I import/paste into photoshop it is horribly pixelated. The only way I can solve this problem is to save in illustrator as an eps and then open the document in photoshop (boo).
Have I changed some preference on accident?

IMovie 09 imports HDV video directly into 'Rejected Only' folder

I've been having some issues importing from my Canon HV20 camera (DV tapes + Firewire) into iMovie 09. It seems that iMovie is automatically 'marking' this imported video as rejected. So, after I import, I have to go into the 'Rejected Only' folder and unmark all the footage in order to see it in my Events folder.
Strange. Does anyone have an idea for why this might be happening?

I have an Xacti camera and I always import onto my HD or external drive via the card slot in my macbook.
The reason is that I do not necessarily want every video clip that I have shot imported into iMovie.
I can preview them and select what I want to import and what I can delete or archive.
Using the card slot or a card reader is no more nuisance than connecting the camera I find.

Weird keyboard lighting issue -only white background

I am a bit stumped, for some reason my keyboard only shows white light instead of colours. If i log off and on some times the colours do change (some times only). I have updated the BIOS and steel series engine, steel series does come up every now and then with "driver not avaliable.application will exit now". i installed the one from MSI and from Steel series website and still nothing. This only started after i closed the lid (sleep mode) and let the battery run flat.
Please if you guys can assist

Have you tried un-installing both steelseries engine then re-download one from msi website and see if issue remains?

Trying to do an Apple style video with a blown out white background. Is there a way to get zebras on screen?

New to grading, but figured there had to be a way to get zebras to see what's overexposed/underexposed quickly like on a monitor when filming? Or is there a tutorial for this somewhere on how to achieve this effect within SpeedGrade? I also have to match clips that were shot at slightly different lighting setups, but still blow out the background on all of them. Thanks!

And here's what it looks like with the Vectorscope YUV (really useful!), Histogram (occasionally useful, often replace it with "Wave"), and Parade which is especially useful in exposure/gain, contrast, and white-balancing. Note where it says " 3 Scopes Layout " ... click in that area to choose how many scopes, and right click on each resultant pane to choose which scope to show there.
