Importing a video
I have imported a video into premiere element 10 from an external hard drive. It was imported as one long clip (55 minutes). How can I break up the video into multiple clips.
There are at least two ways to do that.
One is to use either SceneAlyzer to break it by shots, or HDVSplit, if it is HD.
The other is to Dbl-click on the Clip,to load it into the Source Monitor, and then to set individual In & Out Points, and drag Instances of it, onto the Timeline. Instances can be identical, or if you reset the In & Out Poins, can be very different.

I have iPhoto 9.5.1 running on Mavericks. The issue first appeared when iPhoto refused to import the only two movie files on my iPhone 5S running iOS 8, stating the two .mov files were in an unrecognizable format. I used the Image Capture tool to pull the two videos off the phone. They play normally in QuickTime, however iPhoto still refuses to import them.
I tried repairing and then rebuilding the iPhoto database to no effect. I create a brand new iPhoto library, it provided the same error message. I tried logging onto one of the other users on the iMac, same issue.
I then exported a video from iPhoto and tried to re-import it, I get the same unrecognizable format error - even though the video originally came from iPhoto and played fine.
I deleted the iPhoto preference file and the cache file from ~/Library
I've run out of ideas. Help!Have a read of this thread

I have been trying import VHS video into iMovie via a Hollywood Dazzle bridge. I have been successful doing this in the past, but now it is not working. I have a mac book pro, 10.9.1, (mavericks), iMovie 10.0.2. Everything in iMovie looks like it is working. It reads "recording" in the upper left hand corner of the pane while the video is playing. When I stop the process to check on my clip it says that the file is empty. The only thing that has changed since I did it successfully is that I upgraded to mavericks from whatever I had previously. My system is about one year old. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help! I was able to go to iMovie 9.0.9 and import video. I was still curious as to why it didn't work in version 10.0.2, so I contacted Apple tech support. They were't sure at first as to why it wouldn't work, so they had me delete iMovie 10.0.2 and then re-install it just to see if something had gone wrong when it upgraded. That didn't change anything. In the end, they determined that 10.0.2 doesn't support the Hollywood Dazzle DV bridge. But I have a workaround path from them that I will share so that it's possible to import to 9.0.9, then move it to 10.0.2.
1. Open iMovie 9 (finder/applications/iMovie 9.0.9
2. Import from Dazzle Bridge to iMovie 9, note which event you are importing the clips into
3. Close iMovie 9
4. Open iMovie 10 (probably in the dock)
5. File/Import Media...navigate to home(this was my name, on the left side of iMovie, under Favorites)/Movies/iMovie events. Find the event folder that contains your Dazzle clips (tip-try sorting by date modified to look at recent events.)
6. Select the clips and import. Click the blue "Import Selected" button on the bottom right.
You may get a message that some files cannot be imported. Click continue import. It's a little glitchy. It imports your clip, and also makes a copy of it, too. On the copy, the audio is normal, but the video is choppy. In any case, you would delete the copy, anyway.

I have an iMac 27" and am trying to import some videos of a friends wedding into iMovie however one of the movies won't import. It doesn't say why or give any error message or codes.
All of the other movies on the card download with out a problem. The movie in question is not 'corrupt' as you can watch it in iMovie direct from the SD card but as soon as you try to import it, it just says 'error'. iIve tried moving the file to an external drive ( and other variations on this theme) then importing but have had no luck.
Can anyone please help me.The mystery remains....

I have now found some video converter software (Wondershare and iSkysoft) at a cost. Either will convert this file for me into .mp4. This I can then import into iMovie without any problems. I've checked this on the trial versions and it worked well but without paying am left with a giant watermark in the video
The mystery (which I still havent solved) is why did 20 other .mts files import fine and then this one not?
If you could point me in the direction of some free .mts converter software that would be the cherry on the cake.

ITunes 11 won't import .mov video files from external hard drive but will from internal.

I'm having a problem with iTunes 11.0.1. I can't import .mov video files stored on an external hard drive. I can however import .m4v files from the same external drive. Using either the add to library option or dragging files from the finder.
I can add .mov files from the internal though. Strange I know.
The reason behind this posting is that I'm using iFlicks to convert my TV and movies from my external drive for Apple TV and add all relevent meta data, keeping the files on the external drive and having iTunes link to them.
I would like to be able to simply create a general iTune compatiable file using iFlicks which only takes a minute or two per file to convert. I'm currently converting them to .m4v just for the sack of being able to import them into iTunes from an external drive takes 45 minutes per file.
Has anybody else had this problem? Any ideas on a fix to allow me to import .mov files from an external drive into iTunes without copying it to the iTune library file.

Take control of the top level folder and ALL subfolders.
Try creating a new blank ITL file on M: by pressing *and holding* the shift key while itunes starts. See if you can add everything again. -

Your help is appreciated gang.: )Please describe exactly what you did. In moving to a new machine no importing is involved. The best way is to simply connect the two computers together and drag the iPhoto library from the old one to the pictures folder go the new one and launch iPhoto

Can you import movie videos from SD camera card
Can you import movie videos (MP4) into an Ipad from an SD camera card on a Lightning cable ... or can you only do this from a laptop via Itunes? In other words, is Itunes the only way to get non-Itune videos to the Ipad? Hope I havent made this sound confusing.
To import the videos must follow a very strict naming convention.
All file names must have 8 characters for a name and be located in a folder named DCIM
for example
DCIM
MOV_5789.mp4
You can't watch the videos off the cart, they must be imported into the iPad. They'll go into the camera roll, when you tap on them it'll open the video app and you can watch from there. -
I imported a video I make in movie maker program and I played it back in the premiere video editor and I like the pan and zoom that was added by the program how do I save a copy with the effect of Premiere elements 12
all I did was played it back how do I save that and make a new version of the video beacause when I save a copy the effect look I was trying to save was not there.

But, I want to make sure that we are together on the details. This is my understanding of what you have written. Please review and let me
know if I am misinterpreting anything that you have written.
You have a video created in Windows Movie Maker.
How did you output the video from Windows Movie Maker...wmv or mp4, what was the frame size and frame rate of that export?
Next you import that video into Premiere Elements 12 (can we assume that this is on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit?)
From what you wrote, you have applied a pan and zoom effect to your video in Premiere Elements.
Now you go to export the Premiere Elements 12 Timeline content with your video with the pan and zoom applied.
But, the pan and zoom effect is not seen in playback of the export.
Is all of the above correct so far?
If so....we are going to need some more details from you...
a. What is the project preset that you or the project are setting to match the properties of the video coming from Movie maker? See Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readings for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Rate, and Pixel Aspect Ratio even if the fields look grayed out.
b. Are you applying the pan and zoom effect with the Pan and Zoom Tool, fx Effects Presets, or keyframing the Scale (for Zoom) and
Position (for Pan) in the Motion Panel expanded?
c. What are you selecting as your export in Publish+Share/. Please give details...are you using default settings or customizing the export
setting under the Advanced Button/Video Tab and Audio Tab of the preset selected?
I am suspecting some sort of mismatch of your project settings or some problems with working with the Pan and Zoom tool. I need
your answers to help me help you. If I have written anything that you do not understand, please let me know. I will re-write if necessary
so that we are in sync to resolve the issue.

Nano 5th GenerationWindows xp.
My nano no longer opens automatically with file options menu when I connect it to my lap top. Trying to import priceless videos of my daughter from ipod to computer, However, when I run it I get these results: I click onto My computer/ipod/dcim/000apple and 75 IMG.DAT files come up. Now I am almost sure those files shouldnt be on there. If my memory serves me corrrectly the dcim folder is where one should be able to find video recording made with their iopd?If there is a way to import these videos without having to reset my ipod and lose precious videos please please let me know? I've successfully imported the videos I've shot with my iphone5 into iphoto on my MacBookPro but they're only showing up as still shots, ie the imported videos don't play! Itunes no longer opens automatically when syncing, and when I open itunes it shows that there are zero "home movies" in there, meaning that it never grabbed the videos from my phone either. What to do? Thanks!

Meh, not that it matters anymore. I ended up redownloading 70-odd albums, so I have the bulk of my music back. And I still have no idea what iTunes did with my files, but I'll make sure it never does it again.

IMovie 10.0.1. I can not import all video's from the SD card from my SONY camera.
I have a Sony HDR-CX280 and the last version of iMovie, 10.0.1.
When i Import video's I enter the SD card in the MAc and choose "import".
I create a new event and import part of the video to that event. No problem here.
Then I import a second part of the video to a new event. This goes extremely fast, but these parts of the video remain on the camera even if the show on iMovie after import. When I remove the SD card the images disappear while mentioning: "missing camera".
When the card is put back in te MAC the images re-appear.
On the videostream there is a small videocamera icon which mentions tha the video is still on the camera and that I need to select "import media again" from the archive menu. However this option is not available.
ANyone know what to do about this?
I alread made a copy of the video file to my hard drive and try importing from there but I have the same issue.
I think it is a bug and I also think the new version of iMovie is a beta version. However I would really like to find a solutoon, so thanks for any help I can get.Hi,
I have tried this and came to something strange:
- created a new library with the name imovie library 2
- imported the video to this new library -> succesfull - video stored locally
- drag and drop to the original library: a copy of the event is created in the original library HOWEVER this copy ahs the same issue, it refers to media on the camera and I can not see the video if I remove the SD card.

When I import a video from my PC into Itunes, it flips upside down, how do i fix that?
I created a video on my PC using Power Director 12, and it plays correctly. So, i imported the video into the iTunes app on the same PC, and in the viewing window, the video is upside down, when i copy it to the iPad it is upside down. I see posts concerning videos that were filmed upside down with the ipad, but that is not the case, this video played perfectly fine until it was imported into the itunes application, never leaving my PC. the file type is Mp4. I was wondering if there was anyone out there who knew how to prevent this from happening? or just why it is happening?

It edits in 720P HD, which is 1280x720.
You can make it a bit bigger so you can zoom in.

YouTube always provides people with raw video materials on all sorts of things happened worldwide in real time. I have always had a dell computer. But after the 3rd crash, we decided to throw it out and get a mac. We bought this computer a week ago. I was able to save all our family pics and videos from the dell to an external hard drive. So when I got the new Mac set up, I plugged the hard drive in and had no problem importing all our pictures. But when I tried to import our videos, I ran into some problems. We have had 3 different cameras with each having a different video format. All our videos are either avi, mpeg, or mov. All the avi videos imported successfully but the others will not. I tried importing them into imovie and iphoto and neither one will recognize the format. iphoto says unrecognizable format and imovie just completely freezes and I have to force quit. Here is what is funny. I took the hard drive to my local store and when they hooked it up to their computer, they imported beautifully. Why won't it do the same for my brand new computer? Thanks!

iTunes 11 previously imported a video file, which I loaded on to my iPod Nano, but I removed the file from the iTunes library and now it won't (re-)import the same video.
I'm using 2 PCs, each with video files (.MP4) on their respective hard drives, and also one external drive with other video files on that I move between the two devices.
iTunes on one PC will (sometimes!) let me add video content from the external hard drive, which is clearly iTunes-compatible, because I can then copy it over to my iPod Nano. On the other PC, I couldn't load that same video from the external hard drive. But if I copied that same video on to the PC's internal hard drive first, then iTunes would let me import it. That was yesterday - now iTunes is refusing to load any files from the internal or external hard drive(s).
Any thoughts or suggestions, please?So I tried copying the files from the external hard drive to a USB drive. I could import the video files from the USB drive!
So then I tried importing the same files on to my PC's internal hard drive again. I could import the video files from the internal hard drive!
So then I tried to import the very same files that failed to load on the very same PC previously. I could now import them!
I still can't import from the external hard drive directly, though.
I really don't think I like the process of importing things into iTunes very much... any suggestions on what's causing any of this behaviour would be very interesting. -
Is there a way to import ONLY videos into PE8, not photos?
I have a million photos I never intend to use in a Premiere Elements 8 production. Using the PE8 "Organizer," is there a way to import ONLY videos into PE8, not photos?
I do not use Organizer, so may be missing something, but I would guess that one could Sort By, and choose File Type. Remember, Organizer is for the system, and does not reflect what is Imported for use in a Project - two different things. In lieu of Organizer, I use Adobe Bridge, installed with some of my other Adobe programs.
I would also assume that Organizer does things via folders. If one does not have any aspect set to auto, I would think that it would ONLY do thumbnails for certain folders, as directed. If one has their stills in other folders, then only AV Assets would be seen by Organizer.
Maybe some Organizer guru will have better directions for you. I am just thinking here and speculating.

Messages won't launch. Some library errors.
