Import all those small clips into iMovie, and combine them into one clip
Then you can export that movie into iDVD

  • Import whole movie as one clip in imovie

Hi, not sure if I am posting this in the right place now - ah just looked down below my post and it appears it will put it in the imovie forum, good
I have never used iMovie.  I've used several video editing products in past years, but haven't done much recently and now I have a deadline of Christmas eve to get this done.
A good few years ago we transferred all of my wife's family home super 8 film  to DV format and then spent weeks editing them down to a very nice 20 minute video with music.  Made a bunch of DVDs but over the years, they seem to have all stopped working or been lost.  The master is still on DV tape and I now have my sony camera linked up to my MBP and it seems to work very well once I got the firewire to thunderbolt connector.  It controls the camera perfectly, better than a lot of products that I used to use.
So my problem is ithat when I imported the video, it cut everything up into clips.... and when I put all the clips into a movie they do not play seamlessly... as I don't want to do any editing on this, I just want it all as one long clip so I can export it into suitable formats for my sister-in-law to download on Christmas day...
So I have gone back to the import process and I couldn't seem to find any settings or anything for adjusting how the video is imported from my camera.
I certainly hope this can be done... not so much video editing I want to do, but more of a conversion process I guess, any help would be urgently and greatly appreciated!

hmm, after 24 hours of searching etc I have come to the conclusion that iMovie is pretty rubbish at functionality and a way for Apple to push it's iDrive and get me to pay money for it as well... :-(
I tried putting all my clips into a movie, but the audio skips between the clips and I can't reduce the transition to 0 -  so actually no way of recreating my whole movie again and no way of capturing the whole movie in one clip - granted I've only been using this for a day, but after years of video editing I cant say the interface settting or anything else is intuitive about it... seemed promising at first, but in the end I got my old version of Adobe Premier out and it did what I needed first time, no fuss.  Afraid iMovies is heading for the trash.

  • Echo when I import movie into iDVD

The move is in Quicktime Export-Quicktime movie - Make Movie Self Contained deselected and then I import it into iDVD. The movie starts with a Voice Over and for the first ten seconds there is a decided echo - actually a parallel thread of speech, "My my name name is is..."
I can't figure out what caused this. Worse, I can't figure out a do over.
I play the Timeline and it is fine.
I continue to play the movie in iDVD and after the ten second glitch, that, too, sounds fine.
I'm desperate. Help will be appreciated.

No, the echo is there in Quicktime.
Well, I THINK I rendered everything out.... I hit Sequence -render all-needs render.
Mixed down the audio? How do I do that?
Thanks for the response, Sasha. I know how a guy in the Atlantic feels when he sees a rope snaking down to him. Thanks.

  • Importing a movie into iDVD from FCE

I am perplexed. In the iDVD - Movies display, there are shown half a dozen movies. The other couple of dozen movie files which do appear in Finder - Movies are not listed in iDVD. Nor will the movies in Finder-Movies drag over to iDVD. I clicked on the yellow triangle which appears in the "insert movie" box in the theme, clicked 'import' and it told me iDVD does not support that action. So how do I get a movie from Finder-Movies into iDVD? I did not have this trouble with iMovie.
This is my first completed FCE movie. And things were going so well.

To import movies into iDVD you may use the File/Import/Video... command, after selecting the theme you want to use for the DVD menu.
If a movie in the Import dialog window cannot be imported, probably it has a non standard format, and for sure it was not exported from FCE. Any movie exported from FCE with Export/Quicktime Movie (the only correct method to get a movie from FCE to iDVD) may be imported into iDVD.
So I suggest you review the procedure you used to export from FCE and try again.

  • Importing a movie (mov) into iDVD 16.9

I have been attempting to import a movie (mov) into iDVD. The movie is 16.9 aspect ratio and every time I import it into iDVD it defaults tp 4.3 even though I set it in the beginning within iDVD at 16.9.
    Can someone help me

    Hi
There are in two places You need to set 16x9
    • First when You Create a new project
    • Then under Project Info (top row menu)
This can jump back to 4x3 if You select to use such a theme - then just go up and change it back again
    SAVE AS A DISKIMAGE
Test this first - to see that all plays as You want it
    Then first burn Your DVD

  • Idvd import a qt.movie

how do you import a qt movie and burn to a dvd to play
    on any dvd players

Q: It will not take a "Quicktime.mov" extension
A: Mine does. iDVD6 will accept a QT file /folder or movie. The entire app is built from the ground up based on QT ....if yours doesn't then drag and drop the plist for iDVD to the trash and iDVD will create a new working default set. Looks like this:
    com.apple.iDVD.plist
Directly from the iDVD6 Help Menu:
Video and image formats that work with iDVD
You can use these movie and graphic formats in iDVD:
Most video or image files supported by QuickTime (see the list of unsupported QuickTime formats below).
    High definition video (HDV).
    16:9 widescreen formats.
AAC, MP3, and AIFF audio files.
MPEG-4 and iSight video imported as an iMovie HD movie.
High definition video that you add to your project is converted to work with the format of your project. iDVD supports using 16:9 widescreen video, so that when your DVD plays on a DVD player that supports widescreen format, the footage appears in its original aspect ratio.
The following video and image formats are not supported in iDVD:
    Copyrighted or protected videos.
Movies saved in thousands of colors using the "none" compression setting in iMovie.
48-bit color images (16 bits per color). To use source files in one of these formats in iDVD, save them in a supported format.
Aurora uncompressed files. For best results, export Aurora clips as DV-format video before importing them into iDVD.
QuickTime VR, MPEG-1 or MPEG-2, Flash, streaming or encrypted movies, or QuickTime spanned movies. You can't add MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 files to an iDVD project because they don't contain standard video tracks.
QuickTime Fast Start movies. (Fast Start movies are intended for Internet playback.) When saving a QuickTime movie for use with iDVD, click the Options button in the QuickTime Export dialog and make sure that the "Prepare for Internet Streaming" checkbox is not selected.
Note: You can add any file to the DVD-ROM portion of your DVD so viewers can copy the file onto another computer. For more information, see Related Topics below.
Good luck and hope this helps. If so, please take the time to mark your question as "Answered."

  • Sharing More than One Movie with iDVD????

Okay.. I would like to know if there is another way to burn MORE than one movie an iDVD project. It seems that sending the movie straight to iDVD creates it's own project, and when you try to send another movie, it creates a completely different project. I know I can send a movie to Media browser but the quality of the movie is much better when I share it via the command in iMovie 09 (Shrare->iDVD). I've noticed that the file type is different when you send it to iDVD than when you put it in Media Browser as well.
Currently this is what I do.. Share it to iDVD.. Then I save that iDVD project to my desktop. I close iDVD, and start sharing my second movie. I then Control-Click on the first iDVD project and choose "Show Package Contents". I then dig into the trenches of that file to find the movie file. I then drag it to the desktop and delete the first iDVD project. When the new iDVD project gets made, I simply drag the file on my desktop into the iDVD project I want it in and then it works. This seems like a so un-apple way to do this though. I think iMovie definetly needs and update here. It's great if you ony want to burn a 1 movie to iDVD, but what if you want to do more. There should be a way to select multiple movies to send to iDVD or the option of adding a new imported movie to the current project in iDVD.
Am I missing something or is there another way to do this? Is there a good export option in QuickTime? DV doesn't work because the quality I get is horrible. Somehow the shared to iDVD movie is the best quality and it's a QuickTime file via h.264. Is that my best export option? Sharing with the Media browser creates a mv4 file that's much smaller in size, even at the largest setting. The frames are more jumpier when iDVD finishes with it than the h.264 file.
Any better suggestions? Also, where do I go to make suggestions for Apple. I can't find it anymore on this website.

Q:Also, where do I go to make suggestions for Apple.
A: Launch iDvd and then scroll down to Provide iDvd Feeback.

  • Please help with importing and using imovie and idvd

    Hi,
Please forgive my lack of knowledge. I previously had a mini dv camcorder that was so easy to use with imovie hd. Now that I have switched to an HD Usb 2.0 camcorder that has built in 16gb memory and memory cards, I have had such a great deal of trouble. I really hope you can help and point me in the right directions.
Importing movies are fine, but they take so long! Currently, when I import a movie, I set the camcorder to PC mode and import through imovie. But the camcorder stays on, and I'm not sure if this is the best way or healthiest for the camcorder. Do you have a better/faster way to import movies? Is there a way to drag the video from the memory onto the computer, and then from there import the movie? I think at least I wouldn't have to leave the camcorder on.
Also, one major issue I have is that each movie is broken down into 100 or so clips. I coach basketball, and videotape the games. When there is stoppage, I pause the camcorder. I guess that creates so many clips, so that when the film is imported, there are over 100 clips for the entire movie. Is there a way of making that just 1 entire movie/clip?
Once I have imported the entire movie, which is 100+ clips, I want to simply create a dvd of the game. I know I have to share it, but do you have a better suggestion as to how I should handle this?
In the past, all I did was import the mini dv movie into imovie HD, share into idvd, and then that was it, dvd made. This process had become so time consuming.
    Please help!

Yes, I recognized there would be a slight pause between clips - but after all - you paused the camera at those points.
Putting them all in sequence in iMovie and then encoding in iDVD will take a lot of time.
An old favorite saying of mine is "not every job worth doing, is worth doing well'. The meaning being sometimes 95% is good enough so you can go on to the next job.
How much work do you want to put into each DVD? Can you live with the slight pauses?
would you suggest using a memory card?
Yes, but 16GB cards aren't cheap (yet).

  • Nightmares exporting 16:9 movie for iDVD

I keep running into the same problem at the end of my projects. I'm editing in PAL 16:9 in FCE, and everything looks great on screen. I want to export the movie into iDVD. If I use the standard Export-> Quicktime option it keeps ending up in 3:4. This seems to happen with every export I do no matter what options I choose!
I've managed to export it into a DV file win 16:9 format, and it plays in widescreen in QTPro and in funder preview, and this has worked in iDVD, but it doesn't import the chapter markers, which I really want to have. (I am using 16:9 iDVD templates and have checked the project is in 16:9).
I've spent hours today trying to get the movie to export right and work in iDVD and can't get a perfect solution. Can anyone give me the right settings once and for all?!?!
    Thanks

  • Burning movies using iDVD?

    Hi, please can you help.
I want to use iDVD to burn a movie I have on an AVI file, it's about 2 hours long. When I drag on to iDVD screen it says its too big and need to change encode on project menu, You have Best, High, Professional etc, the top one is too big. Do I use High or Professional? When I change that and go to burn a pop uo still comes up and it says there are still some things that need changing after I've done this, but can still continue burning. Can you tell me what it is and will an AVI play back on a standard DVD player afterwards when burned. I don't want to wait over 4 hours to find out it won't work.
Can anyone please help and tell me how I can speed it up, do I use High/Professional if 'Best' won't let you do a 2 hour film, and what else I need to fix. Why does it keep coming up with 'continue burning' but tells me things need to be fixed first, but now what after I've changed the encoding.
    Thanks

The cause of the problem could be two-fold: the one stated, and your choice of the outdated Microsoft AVI file container which, depending on the video codec used, may not be compatible.
But if the video plays in Quicktime and/or iMovie it should be OK. Does it?
Encoding can take a considerable time. 4 hours is not unusual.
    (From fellow poster Mishmumken: )
How to create a DVD in iDVD without menu (there are several options):
    1. Easy: Drop your iMovie in the autoplay box in iDVD's Map View, then set your autoplay item (your movie) to loop continously. Disadvantage: The DVD plays until you hit stop on the remote
    2. Still easy: If you don't want your (autoplay) movie to loop, you can create a black theme by replacing the background of a static theme with a black background and no content in the dropzone (text needs to be black as well). Disadvantage: The menu is still there and will play after the movie. You don't see it, but your disc keeps spinning in the player.
    3. Still quite easy but takes more time: Export the iMovie to DV tape, and then re-import using One-Step DVD.
Disadvantage: One-Step DVD creation has been known to be not 100% reliable.
    4. (My preferred method) Easy enough but needs 3rd party software: Roxio Toast lets you burn your iMovie to DVD without menu - just drag the iMovie project to the Toast Window and click burn. Disadvantage: you'll need to spend some extra $$ for the software. In Toast, you just drop the iMovie project on the Window and click Burn.
    5. The "hard way": Postproduction with myDVDedit (freeware)
    Tools necessary: myDVDedit ( http://www.mydvdedit.com )
    • create a disc image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
    • Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
    • Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
    • Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel.
    • Select the menu (usually named VTS Menu) and delete it
    • Choose from the menu File > Test with DVD Player to see if your DVD behaves as planned. If it works save and close myDVDedit.
    • Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then create a disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager:
    http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html
Our resident expert, Old Toad, also recommends this: there is a 3rd export/share option that give better results.  That's to use the Share ➙ Media Browser menu option.  Then in iDVD go to the Media Browser and drag the movie into iDVD where you want it.
    Hope this helps!

  • IMovies in my 'Movies' folder don't appear in "Media Movies" in iDVD

I am creating a DVD with 16 small iMovie files. They have been saved into the 'Movies' folder on my computer and play fine. When I am in iDVD, I can't add these movies. I have tried importing them from iDVD, they don't import. I have tried dragging them directly onto the iDVD drop zones, doesn't work. I have tried the 'Add movie' button -- no luck. The movies do not even appear in the 'Media>Movies' menu so I can't drag them in that way. I have tried resaving them, creating a Magic iDVD, using different themes, starting all over with iDVD...I feel like I have tried everything I can think of. HELP!!
I am able to export them from iMovie, but I don't want 16 separate DVDs, I'd like them all on one.

Thanks any way, but for the theme I was using your method wasn't suitable for 16 movies. I figured out that if I import the original movies, not the renamed movies, and then change the names once inserted into the iDVD theme they were fine.
Thanks for trying to answer my question.

  • Importing photos from iphoto into idvd

I am trying to import photos from iphoto into idvd for a slideshow. When the photos move into idvd they are not in the same order as they were in the iphoto library. What could be the possible cause of this?? I did go into iphoto and place comments in after the fact. Would that have anything to do with it?

Try this possible solution from acgray on Mac OS X Hints:
I have worked with many users who like to take iPhoto albums and make DVDs of them with iDVD. However, one very annoying bug (feature?) has to do with the fact that when you are in iDVD, it randomizes the sort order of the Photos in your album. Not only that, but it is painstaking and time consuming changing the order in iDVD.
    My solution..
Select All in the album in iPhoto you want to use in iDVD as a slideshow. Then use File -> Export -> File Export. The secret is to select "Use Album Name" as this will rename the images in sequential order, based on the order that you put them in. Save them in their own new folder somehwere easy to find (ie on the Desktop).
Then, in iDVD, either drag, or I believe you can import the entire folder into the Slideshow project window, and voila! your slides are in order. I believe you can throw away the folder with the exported images as they should now be saved into the Project, but don't quote me on that.
