How do I import addresses from Address Book Ver 4.1.2 to the Lion Address Book version 7.0? Mountain Lion will not allow me to open Address book Version 4.1.2

Do you have any addresses in the Lion version?
If not, copy the AddressBook folder from your username/Library/Application Support/ folder on the old mac (or backup).
Copy it to the same location on your new Mac, replacing the one that is there. Start Address Book in Mountain Lion and it should convert the files to the correct format.
If you do have addresses, it is a little more complicated.
First, create a Contacts Archive (from File>Export menu). This will be your backup.
Next, export the current contacts as vCards.
    Then, follow the steps above.
Then, import all the cards you exported. If you select all and double-click, it will ask if you want to add them. You'll then have to add them to whatever groups you had set up.

  • Importing contacts from hotmail

Is there a way to import hotmails contacts into entourage? I have saved them as a "comma delimited" (cvs) file, but I can't get any further than that.
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

Actually, the problem occured in field mapping at the end of your suggested steps. However, your question prompted me to try further and I discovered how to remap the fields by dragging imported fields from the right to their correct location on the left (Entourage address book). That worked and the addresses imported just fine. Thanks

  • Importing contacts from Hotmail account

Previously, all my contacts were taken periodically from my Nokia E71 phone and moved to my Hotmail account.
I found no reason for this, although other threads here suggested I disable the contacts option in the email accounts part of my phone.
I not only did this, I upgraded the phone software and then imported the phone contacts from the backup I had made in Nokia PC Suite.
Now I need to import the rest of my contacts from Hotmail, the ones which were removed from my phone without my wanting them to be removed.
    How do I do that?
    Thanks

The reason for decoding is that when you open a .csv file in a spreadsheet after having exported to that file via Nokia Communicator, it asks you to pick which option you want to use to decode with.
I mean, I personally don't get it, but that is what happens.
    The message sent to my email after I installed Nokia Messenger was this;
Thank you for trying Nokia Messaging! This email message contains important information about the service.
    Costs of the service
During the trial, there is no cost for the Nokia Messaging service itself. However, data traffic will be charged according to your current operator service plan and may not be included in your flat data rate plan. Please contact your operator to know how much you will be charged.
Get the most up to date client
If you signed up for Nokia Messaging directly from your phone, please upgrade your software. The updated version allows you to view emails in HTML, supports Windows Live Hotmail, allows you to set up multiple email addresses, and is a lot faster!
Using your phone browser, visit http://email.nokia.com and click the download button.
NOTE: No upgrade is necessary for E75, E72 and E55 phones.
    What happens after the trial?
As your trial nears its end, we will send you a reminder. If you do not want to purchase a subscription, simply allow the trial period to end. We will notify you when the period ends, and we will cancel your Nokia Messaging account. You will not be billed for the service and you will not have to do anything.
    Enjoy your mobile email!

  • Importing Addresses from Excel.

Is it possible to import addresses that I have in an excel page, into the Address Book?
I can´t see any possibility to import the CSV format. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Julio

I do have a working Panther installation and the same version of Address Book as Julio, though I don't use it and know nothing about it. On opening the application and choosing Import from the File menu, I have only two options: "vCards" and "LDIF". I have no idea whether saving an Excel file as a tab- or comma-delimited text file (which is easy) would make it possible to convert the entries in it to vCard or LDIF format using some third-party utility. If so, that intermediate step might enable Address Book to import the data. If not, then I suspect AB 3.1.2 isn't going to be able to import the Excel data.
There is an "Import Helper" script in my Library/Scripts/Address Book Scripts/Helper Scripts folder, but I know even less about AppleScript than I do about Address Book, and I can't tell from the negligible information provided about that script exactly what its function is, or what problem it's designed to help with. Sorry...

  • Contacts won't keep imported addresses from Outlook

When I import my contact addresses from Outlook into PE8 Contacts, they are all there for just that instance, then they all will disappear the next time I go to the contact page.  I can't find any option to fix that.  I have signed in and looked in my Adobe account and don't find anything there either.  What do you need to do/set/click on to permanently keep the addresses imported?  If I manually enter one, it stays.

Let's go step-by-step to see what the issue might be:
    1. In Outlook, select one contact.
    2. Right-click the contact and select Send Full Contact > In Internet Format (vCard).  This creates a draft email message with the selected contact as a vCard attachment.
After step 2, do you see the attachment in the draft message?  In Outlook 2007, it looks like:
It should look similar in Outlook 2003.   If you can't see where the attachment is, post a screenshot here (come to the Web to reply, not by email, and use the Attach Files command at the bottom of the message window).
    3. Click on that attachment and drag it to your Windows desktop.  On my Windows 7, it looks like:
If you other versions of Windows, it will look a little different.

  • Cannot import addresses from old computer

I can't seem to import the Thunderbird addresses from my old computer to the new one. The import function simply stops. I waited for it several times, tried twice, gave up.

What are you trying to import from?
The import functions in Thunderbird are generally aimed at users switching from a different email program.
If you are moving Thunderbird from one computer to another, the best way is to copy its profile to the new computer.

  • How can I import addresses from one of my address book accounts into webmail at my internet service so that another individual who uses Firefox as their browser can send out emails using those addresses?

I was able to export addresses to webmail @ sonic.net (csv format via previous gmail user) and read them fine using my normal browser, Safari. However, when trying to use the imported addresses via Firefox, the addresses had a symbol inbetween each letter of the email address and thus could not be used.

Sorry I put this in the wrong forum. I shall post again to Leopard/mail etc.

  • How do I import addresses from Outlook to MacBook

I recently inherited a 3 year old MacBook Pro and I want this computer to replace my old MS laptop using Outlook 10.  Any idea how to import the address book (which is first priority) and then also the old emails and calendar items that I have in Outlook?

You have to have itunes on your computer to import contacts via iTunes. the iTunes app on the iPad isn't good for anything but making purchases.
Download and install iTunes. Plug your device in and you may need to research setting it up without wiping anything out. And then under the info tab of the compuer iTunes you'll see the option to sync contacts.
If you don't want to mess with this, the only other ways to get the contacts is to explore iCloud syncing, or e-mail them to yourself, one at a time, and open that mail on your iPad and save them from there.

  • Best way to import addresses from outook into address book?

is there a way to import a csv file in its entirety?
    thanks!

Address Book can import a tab delimited or CSV text file. Open Address Book, select Address Book Help from the Help menu, search for: import.
Or you can try a third-party utility such as AB Transfer - 2.1a (VersionTracker or MacUpdate) to assist in transferring datafiles.

    Hello ba:
Based on what you describe, I have to say I do not know as I have never done anything like that myself. A "normal" way to move from an old to a new computer would be to use Apple's migration assistant.
However, I cut/pasted this information from a knowledge base article. Hopefully it will help:
+Archive and Install or installation on different volume (partition)+
+If you choose to "Archive and Install" the later version over the earlier one, or installed the later version on a different volume or partition, your previous addresses will not be automatically imported. To import them, follow the steps below. You can also follow these steps if for any reason you wish to re-import your previous addresses.+
+1. Be sure that Mail, Address Book, and iChat are quit.+
+2. If you have not used these three applications since upgrading, skip to Step 9. If you have used them since upgrading, you will need to remove certain Address Book data before importing your previous addresses (Steps 3 to 8).+
+3. Click the Finder icon in the Dock.+
+4. Choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.+
    +5. Type: ~/Library/Application Support/+
    +6. Click Go.+
+7. Here, locate the folder named "AddressBook".+
+8. Drag the AddressBook folder to the Trash, or if you prefer, drag it to a backup location.+
+9. Copy the "Addresses" folder from the Library folder of your previous Home directory to the Library folder of your current Home directory. For reference, the pathname of your previous Address folder would be:+
    +/Previous Systems/Previous System 1/Users/{your username}/Library/Addresses+
+The folder to copy it to would be:+
    +/Users/{your username}/Library/+
+10. Rename the "Addresses" folder you copied to "AddressBook".+
+11. Open Mail, Address Book or iChat. Your previous addresses will be imported automatically.+

  • How do I import addresses from Word into Address Book?

I have all my addresses formatted as a label document in Word (so I can print on Avery labels). How can I import this information into Address Book?

You will need to convert the file so it appears something like this:
    LastName<tab>FirstName<tab>Address<tab>City<tab>State<tab>Zip
    Aalberg<tab>The<tab>3451 Avon Way<tab>Burbank<tab>CA<tab>91564
    Jones<tab>Sam<tab>11112 First Ave. NW<tab>Atlanta<tab>GA<tab>30022
The above is the general format required. The typical way of doing address labels in Word is to create a mailmerge database that would be formatted like the above. Then you create a mailmerge document in which the fieldnames on the top line of the database are inserted in the desired format. You then create the output file by doing a mailmerge. Apparently you are doing it the brute-force way.
I hope this makes it clearer for you.

  • Cant import addresses from PC in .csv format

I have followed instructions off Switch 101 for importing contacts into my iMac address book. I now have a .csv file on my desktop. When I try and import the details I can see the info listed by the names individually but when click OK they dont import. Also I want to bring all names across in one hit and not click OK for 300+ names.
    Ideas?
Thanks in advance. (ps I am a Mac newbie)

I suggest using Address Book Importer instead.
