Importing albums in iPhoto on MacBook

My old iBook died but I'd saved my iPhoto library to an external Lacie. I imported the pictures easily enough but the album information didn't come across from the hard drive and the pictures were all in original format (e.g. unrotated, etc) so I want to try again to import but keeping the album names this time. I've read on the iPhoto support about opening iPhoto with the command key held down to use the original library, but on my MacBook this simply opens the application folder. I guess this is something unique to the Intel macs so didn't think the iPhoto forum would help. Any ideas?.

All album information should be transferred if you copy the folder "iPhoto Library", whole and untouched, from the backup and place it into your Pictures folder in your Home directory.

  • Aperture fails to import albums from iPhoto

I have been using the combination iPhoto/Photoshop for many years. For some time I have considered either Aperture of Lightroom. With the chopped price and supposedly improved interface with the new version, I decided to buy it today. So far it looks like a big mistake! One major reason for choosing Aperture rather than Lightroom was Apertures's advertised smooth import of the iPhoto library, and to import albums in iPhoto. I have spent a lot of time over several years to find a good system of album organization in iPhoto. It was consequently a big disappointment to discover that Aperture failed to import most of my some 30 albums and my slideshows from iPhoto. I have searched both the manual and help to find out how I can get my album organization of some 20 000 pictures into Aperture, but so far without success. Can anyone give me a clue. Both regular albums as well as smart albums are missing. I cannot figure out how I so totally have misunderstood what Aperture is capable of.

There is always local issues involved. No two Macs are alike. Different files, temporary files, plug-ins etc. can and do cause problems. When software updates and upgrades are created, the developer, in this case Apple, need to test the software in different environments. Developers are pushed by steadily shorter deadlines, at the same time applications are also steadily becoming more complex. When I am critical to Apple, it is because there are only Apple applications involved in my case, on a brand new (2 weeks old newest version of MacBook Pro), and the very same issue has happened to too many others. Just take a look at Apple discussions. I have used iPhoto since it was launched the first time, and I have only experienced problems a couple of times before. I am not saying that the problem is iPhoto or Aperture alone, it is the two of them which do not handle the integration. Keep in mind also that most Aperture users are different than the average Mac user in that they work a lot with photo files. This is the environment that Apple has to take into account when launching upgrades and updates.

  • Importing Albums into iphoto

I just got the new aluminum macbook, and am transferring things from my old Powerbook G4 to my new macbook through an external hard drive. I was able to import all of my photos, but for some reason it wont let me import my albums. What should I be exporting from my old iphoto onto my harddrive to import my albums on the my new computer. This new iphoto wont let me import an xml file or any album things, just the photos...
    Thanks in advance!!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
You don’t export or import anything.
Simply: Copy the iPhoto Library Folder from the Pictures Folder on the Old Machine to the same location on the New Machine.
    Then Launch iPhoto. That’s it.

  • How to import albums from iPhoto 4..?n

Have put a lot of work to group my photos in my previous iPhoto. Now, got the '08 (7.0) Version and imported the Library. All the pictures seem to be in, even more, pictures, I believed to be erased..
But don't have a clue, how to import the albums, so the photos are grouped again as they were..
Working in Leopard (10.5.2). My other iPhoto with albums is still on another (internal) hard drive with Tiger as OS.
Any idea, how to import the albums ?
    Thanks

In iPhoto's General preferences pane check the checkbox "Show Item Counts".
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How to import Albums from iPhoto 2 to iPhoto 6

Just got a couple new Duo2Cores to replace/compliment some G4s; the G4's all had the old iPhoto 2 installed. How do I get the Albums to transfer from a G4 iPhoto 2 to iPhoto 6? The individual photos copy over fine, but I'd sure like to preserve all my albums!
    Thanks!

    pcbjr:
As Dochollerday pointed out before running iPhoto6 on your old library it's wise to make sure the permissions are OK and there are no locked files (why they get locked is a mystery but sometimes they do - I happened to me). A very quick and easy way to achieve both issues at once is to download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administartive name in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.

  • How do I delete empty last import albums?

My iPad has suddenly developed a string of empty "Last Import" albums in iPhoto. How do I get rid of them?

Found the solution under "More like this"
iPhoto - delete greyed out albums
I found a solution to this.  Set up a photo card with 1 image. Import the image into a last import folder, keep the photo, change to album view, select the last import folder with the image, click select, select the image, and delete it.  The folder will be removed.  You need to do this once for every folder.  I had  over 100 of them and it took me under an hour.  But it worked.  Good luck!

  • How to import Facebook albums to iPhoto '11

    Hi,
I have iPhoto '11 installed on my MacBook white (mid 2010) with Lion. I connecyed iPhoto to my facebook account and I used it several times to upload new photos to Fb. This time I've imported 2 albums of photos to Fb from another computer and I'd like to import them to iPhoto on my Mac. I've tried accessing to Fb through iPhoto and I can see all my albums (even the ones I want to import) but there isn't any option that allows me to do that...at least none that I can see!
Is there anyone who can help me?
Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

How many orders do you need to import one photo?
Perhaps you need to explain that again

  • How do I import or move multiple selected photos to an existing album in iPhoto 9.6? In previous versions I could select and drag multiple photos into an album. Now I can only move one photo at a time. Help!

How do I import or move multiple selected photos to an existing album in iPhoto 9.6? In previous versions I could select and drag multiple photos into an album. Now I can only move one photo at a time. Help!

    Try this general troubleshooting procedure:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder: User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks and Yosemite,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

  • Help with Importing Photo Albums from Iphoto

I have created a bunch of albums in iphoto and wish to transfer them to my ipod. However, when i go to the photos tab of itunes when my ipod is plugged in and i try to select Sync from Iphoto it says that i have 0 photos in iphoto. i have tried selecting individual folders of photos to import and that works just fine, but i want to be able to select the albums that i already created in iphoto.
    thanks for your help

Apologies, you're right, it should be albumdata.xml.
Have a read of this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=778068&tstart=0
About 2/3'rds of the way down, DaveE has the following post:
    - View your albumdata.xml file in some text editor, like TextEdit.
    - Do a Find (cmd f) for "List of Keywords"
    - The XML under that looks kind of like this:
    <dict>
    <key>1</key>
    <string>Favorite</string>
    <key>6</key>
    <string>Birthday</string>
    <key>3</key>
    </dict>
You will probably have more keywords, this is just an example. But see the format - everything that has <something> ends with </something>.
When I had the problem, the example above looked like:
    <dict>
    <key>1</key>
    <string>Favorite <key>6</key>
    <string>Birthday</string>
    <key>3</key>
    </dict>
Notice the line return and </string> are missing for "Favorite". This happened to one of my keywords, and I don't know what caused it, but I deleted that keyword (and the one after it) from within iPhoto's preferences, and typed them in again.
The problem went away. Maybe some bogus character got into the keywords to make the XML go bad.
So try to use the method above to identify which keyword might have a problem, rather than go on a witch hunt and waste a lot of time. Of course, your problem could be different from mine entirely, but my iLife apps had the same problem you described.
Try it and see if it helps.

  • Importing Facebook albums into iphoto.

    Hi all,
I was wondering if it is possible to import my photo album names and details from Facebook into iphoto? I know I can go the other way and edit albums I have created in iphoto and then uploaded into Facebook. However, I cannot seem to add photos to albums that I created in Facebook via iphoto. For example, if I create an album in Facebook, I cannot seem to access this album in iphoto as I didn't create it within iphoto.

Please see my write-up and video tutorial on a solution to your question. I had the same need so I came up with this method.

  • How do I move folders and albums in iPhoto on my MacBook Pro to my ipad?

How do I move folders and albums in iPhoto on my MacBook Pro to a new iPad Air?

To sync photos, connect your iPad to your Mac and select it on the left-hand sidebar of your Mac's iTunes (you can enable the sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac), and on the right-hand side there should be a series of tabs, one of which should be Photos - if you select that tab you can then select which photo albums/folders to sync to the iPad. There is a bit more info on this page.
You will need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad - synced photos can't be deleted directly on the iPad, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next photo sync.

  • How can I import images from iphoto with the albums and folders?

How can I import images from iphoto without losing the albums and folders I already created?

In Organizer, you can choose File>get Photos and Videos>From iPhoto.
Importing from iPhoto'09: If in iPhoto, you organize your media using photo references, that is, the media actually does not reside inside iPhoto library package, and are referenced through original locations, Organizer does not create new copies of those media and just refer to the original location. but if your iPhoto media reside inside iPhoto library, Organizer creates a copy all media in your pictures folder, also imports albums and tags and other metadata.
Importing from iPhoto'011: In this case, Organizer always creates a copy of your photos in your pictures folder which resides inside iPohto package. It does not import the albums and other metadata like star rating, caption etc.
    Hope this information helps!

  • How can I stop iPhoto from trying to import albums from MoblieMe?

Since 1 July iPhoto tries to import albums from MobileMe upon each start-up. I never created any album in MobileMe so the attempt to imort fails. I can then only click 'Retry' or 'Remind me later'. There is no option to tell iPhoto to not import any album.
Any idea how to get out of this loop?

Close iTunes before switching profiles or disable fast user switching.
